After raising this bug 3 years ago I wrote a small script to work around this
problem and have used it ever since with KMM. If anybody else comes along
looking for the same solution that I requested here (but was never addressed by
the "fixes" above), then see https://github.com/bulletmark/raise-or-run.

The BQM always needs a target file internally. For metadata tools, if there are
no image editing tools in the queue, a copy of the original file is created.
Then the metadata operations are performed on the copy. If there was no error,
either the copy is renamed, or if the overwrite option is set, the original
file is replaced.

[Phonon] [Bug 398448] New: Independent Device and Application Volume Controls

2018-09-09 Thread Fred Wells
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=398448

Bug ID: 398448
Summary: Independent Device and Application Volume Controls
   Product: Phonon
   Version: 4.10.0
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: KDE platform plugin
  Assignee: sit...@kde.org
  Reporter: fred_we...@charter.net
CC: myr...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: 4.8

Independent Device and Application volume controls are confusing and limiting.

- System Tray Audio and/or keyboard volume control adjusts only the Device
Output and not the Application Playback volume.
- Applications (Amarok, Clementine, Cantata/MPD, Chrome, etc.) adjust only the
Application Playback volume and not the Device volume.

The problem...
KDE system audio (for example) Outputs to the Device, which is generally set to
a comfortably low volume. Applications must then be set to 100% just to play at
that same volume. However, client controllers such as KDEConnect control only
the Application Playback volume, which is already at 100%. Thus, one cannot use
the application to increase the Application volume to a preferred level, which
is being limited by the lower Device volume.

Reversing the volumes gives greater control to applications, but blasts system
audio.

Why not a single volume control, which is what I suspect the end-users truly
expect and assume.

Poorly visible icons in Latte dock

Hi, I use some icons on my dock which are hardly visible when the background is
dark. The dock's background is completely transparent, cause that's what I
want.
Most of the icons are visible very well, but they are in full color. The one I
speak about now are black, like the volume icon, the multi-media and network
ones.
On the KDE bugreport (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=382264) there is a
solution for poorly visible icons on the log-out screen.
Can this solution be implemented in Latte as well?
Thanks.

That's unrelated; this bug report is about the new Libinput touchpad settings

[frameworks-kio] [Bug 398446] New: Remote locations accessed with a KIO-using app are not visible in a non-KDE file picker

2018-09-09 Thread Nate Graham

Bug ID: 398446
Summary: Remote locations accessed with a KIO-using app are not
visible in a non-KDE file picker

  Platform: Other
OS: Linux

  Severity: major

Let's say you use Dolphin to navigate to a Samba share, NFS location, FTP
server, or Google Drive. All is well so far. You use Dolphin to open a file
there in a non-KIO-using app like LibreOffice Writer, Inkscape, or Blender. All
is well. You change the file and save it. KIO displays a dialog asking you
whether you want to re-upload the changed file to the server, which is a bit
annoying (see Bug 398216), but it works.

There is a problem, though:

The non-KIO-using app's non-KDE file picker cannot see the remote location.
This means that you cannot use File > Open... to open new documents on the
remote location, nor can you use File > Save As... to save a copy of the
document to the remote location using.

There is probably nothing we can do about this short of secretly mounting the
remote location using FUSE like GNOME's GVFS does (See bug 75324) and exposing
the mount to the GNOME open/save dialogs, but I'm filing this bug anyway just
in case anyone can think of something clever we can do anyway.

I use Latte-dock on KDE 5.13.5. Some of the used icons are poorly visible on a
dark background, they are volume, network and media-player. As icon theme I use
Breeze.
When I asked about it on the KDE forum I was pointed to this bug-report and so
here I am.
Latte is using a transparant background to still see the wallpaper on my
desktop.
When I open Latte on a light background, for example in Dolphin, the icons are
visible.
I added a picture called Latte.png to show what I mean.

OK - This is interesting! The accounts that do not show up have the "Type" and
"Currency" fields grayed out (the type seems to show "Asset" but I don't know
if that's relevant).

Those that do show up do NOT have the Type as grayed out - and the type is
"Checking".

I looked at only a few, but that's the difference I noted. Why would the other
accounts not have a type?

It creates 2 pages of shared memory, uninitializes

pages contain valid values, valgrind doesn't understand
shared memory and reports an error.
I have the program that uses shared memory a lot,

[okular] [Bug 398443] New: okular sometimes goes into a state where "space" is recognized for navigation, but not "delete" or "pageup/pagedown"

2018-09-09 Thread Frederick Eaton
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=398443

Bug ID: 398443
Summary: okular sometimes goes into a state where "space" is
recognized for navigation, but not "delete" or
"pageup/pagedown"
   Product: okular
   Version: 1.5.1
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: okular-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: frede...@ofb.net
  Target Milestone: ---

I've experienced this problem for a while now. Randomly, I'll open a PDF
document, say via a text-based web browser, in Okular. I'll use "space" or the
mouse wheel to navigate down the document. However, when I hit "delete" the
keypress is ignored. Same with "pageup" and "pagedown" - ignored. But if I use
the mouse and click on the document, then it fixes things and I can navigate
with these keys again.

Unfortunately I haven't found a way to reproduce this. It happens every day,
but it may be dependent on a race condition or something because I can't make
it happen on demand. Maybe I am doing a particular thing without realizing it,
e.g. starting to type before the document comes up. Or maybe it only happens on
new documents that Okular hasn't seen before. Usually when I open a document,
all keys work for navigation at startup.

I use the i3 window manager and the w3m web browser. I'm not sure if the bug is
dependent on opening a document with w3m.

I know this isn't much to go on but I wanted to submit here because I'm not
making any progress on getting more information, and I thought maybe somebody
familiar with the code of Okular could say what is happening. It seems that
something is going on related to focus. Is there a focus state where Okular
responds to "space" but not "delete" for navigation?

[okular] [Bug 398442] New: okular doesn't respect page reverse setting of PPD or lpadmin

2018-09-09 Thread Frederick Eaton

Bug ID: 398442
Summary: okular doesn't respect page reverse setting of PPD or

   Product: okular

  Platform: Other

Status: UNCONFIRMED

The problem is that when printing documents on an inkjet printer, I would like
to be able to pick up the document and staple it without manually reversing the
pages first. But that means having the pages come out in reverse order, since
the printer is printing face-up. There are settings in the PPD and in other
CUPS tools which allow me to specify that pages should be reversed by default.
However, Okular seems to be ignoring these settings. Unless I check the
"reverse" box in the print dialog, pages come out in the wrong order on my
inkjet.

Some things were fixed in cups-filters but I find that the bug persists, so I'm
letting the Okular team know about it.

GRUB2 seems pretty popular at this point. Maybe we could limit it to just GRUB2
systems, or even systems using GRUB2 with UEFI. Does that make this any more
feasible?

Currently tooltips such as the ones of bug 395690 do not appear on screenshots.

> The problem is that the keyboard focus while taking a screenshot is taken
> away from the application and they react by closing popups.

Would it be possible to let them retain the focus (or have them think so), but
filter out any event so that they receive nothing? I expect such a
functionality to be useful in multiple places in kwin.

An alternative way could be to provide an interface to ask permission before
taking the screenshot. Spectacle could add a button "request permission to
record screen", and that would allow this capability for the duration of the
program run. But I might be mistaken, and such a thing might be already
possible trough portals?

is the current profile you mentioned the default profile? Are there other
profiles? Can you create a new profile and test if the settings are saved and
survive a reboot?

Talking about reboot - did you installed the edition?

I tried to reproduce this bug, but actually the only way I could reproduce it
was when I used the edition image in a virtual machine not having installed it
- I do not think any changes will survive in that way (:

I tried to reproduce this bug with version 3.0.5 with packages from Archlinux.

Clicking on the red cross quits it. Clicking on the black cross in the tab bar
closes the active tab, as I would expect. So that seems to be no issue in later
versions.

But I can confirm in version 3.0.5 that shortcut ctrl-shift-q doesn't work
(Archlinux Packages).

To reproduce:

1. Start Yakuake
2. Give it focus (press F12)
3. Press ctrl-shift-q
4. Give it focus (press F12)

Although it should have been quit, the program is still running. I would expect
that pressing F12 at step has no effect, since Yakuake has been quit.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=398440

Bug ID: 398440
Summary: plasmashell crashes on wayland when dragging a file
from dolphin over a panel
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.13.5
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: generic-wayland
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: mayeul.can...@live.fr
  Target Milestone: 1.0

I do not seem to hit 390430, but when dragging a folder from Dolphin on the
panel (not releasing the mouse), plasmashell crashes.

Steps to reproduce:

Open two maximized Dolphin windows
Try to drag a folder from one to another:
* Click and start dragging the folder from one Dolphin window,
* hover a panel (I'm using a standard task manager) to focus on the background
Dolphin window
* Observe plasmashell crashing.

[plasmashell] [Bug 398439] New: "Windows can cover" panel does not pop-up with with mouse on screen edge under Wayland

2018-09-09 Thread Matěj Laitl
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=398439

Bug ID: 398439
Summary: "Windows can cover" panel does not pop-up with with
mouse on screen edge under Wayland
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.13.5
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Panel
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: ma...@laitl.cz
  Target Milestone: 1.0
 Flags: Wayland+, X11-

Hi, one Wayland-specific.

Steps to reproduce:
 1. Use Wayland session (kwin_wayland)
 2. Set your panel to "Windows can cover"
 3. Launch a maximized application
 4. Move your mouse to edge of the screen where the panel is

Expected results:
Panel pops up. This is the way it works under X session.

Actual results:
Panel does not show up. You need to move windows away from panel to see it. It
does not matter whether the covering window is native Wayland or XWayland one.

After setting the panel to "Auto hide" it works correctly - it pops up even
with maximized applications.

KDE Frameworks: 5.49.0
Qt: 5.11.1
Wayland: 1.15.0

(a) can you reproduce this issue when all screens are aligned in a straight

(b) can you reproduce this bug if you disable the blur effect (and the
background contrast effect)?

Created attachment 114866
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=114866=edit
Original layout

I have three monitors, which are not aligned in a straight way, to match the
physical layout. The resulting layout can be seen in the first attachment.

When using the desktop cube animation to switch virtual desktops, corruption is
shown on my screen.

This bug dates back to the kde4 days, as far as I know (it might have been
fixed at some point, though).

I am using an Intel igpu on this specific computer, with Mesa 18.1.8.

Top-left, with the shape of an auto-hiding panel (see bug 382829) that sits
here, appears a part of another activity. I do not see that myself (just the
panels that becomes semi-transparent; with the right background) when switching
desktops, it only appears on the screenshot.

Adding my two cents of agreement here. The first time I ran through the BQM to
change a bunch of timestamps I ended up with a bunch of duplicate files as I
didn't set the "overwrite" settings

But, as the original poster mentioned its not clear what "Overwrite" is doing.
Hopefully its just editting the EXIF data.

Those files are "copied" from syntex, you should open an issue at
https://github.com/jlaurens/synctex/issues since that way we can import fixes
from them.

Also given that musl is kind of not easy to come by i guess it'd be great if
you could provide a patch. It should not be very hard since there seems to be
already an own implementation of vasprintf

Please if you open a bug on their side please link it here so we can also keep

I tried with the last julia release, both with the pre-built
and build from sources, problem does not reproduce.

(tried on an ubuntu 18.04)

We might maybe have an idea of what is happening if
you run vith -v -v -v -d -d -d and give
the last 50 lines of trace before the crash.

CFSI stands for Call Frame Summary Info
Call Frame Info is the unwind info generated by the compiler.
Valgrind builds a summary of this info : the mininum needed to unwind
to build a stacktrace.

Please don't re-open closed bugs, especially with no explanation. I've provided
you with an alternative possibility that you've acknowledged works all right.
Our system is already flexible, but we can't add every feature request,
especially something like this that could prove unexpected or confusing for
people who aren't you. :)

Patches are always welcome, and we can reconsider this if someone decides to
submit a patch to add the feature. At that time, we can evaluate it But there's
no point in keeping open bugs that we don't intend to implement ourselves; it
clutters up the bug tracker and makes it harder for us to work.

Git commit d11f419afc2289e42f4b3bd682ef8269ccd13bf1 by Thomas Fischer.
Committed on 30/08/2018 at 19:28.
Pushed by thomasfischer into branch 'master'.

Delaying initialization of static variables

To allow for proper internationalization to be loaded and
initialized before static const variables in BibTeXFields and
BibTeXEntries, those variables have been refactored into the
singleton functions of each class.

[kdenlive] [Bug 398434] New: Curves effect not reflecting changes but still processing video

2018-09-09 Thread Javier O . Cordero Pérez
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=398434

Bug ID: 398434
Summary: Curves effect not reflecting changes but still
processing video
   Product: kdenlive
   Version: Appimage - Refactoring
  Platform: Appimage
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Effects & Transitions
  Assignee: vpi...@kde.org
  Reporter: javiercorderope...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 114864
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=114864=edit
Screenshot of the Curves effect with some settings applied.

Applying and messing the "Curves" effect has no effect on the image in any of
the possible settings combinations. The effect still slows down playback, as if
the image were being processed.

The "Show graph in picture" checkbox is the only setting to have an effect on
the image. The graph that shows inside the picture shows a straight line within
a transparent grid background, as if the changes to the curve were not being
read.

On a side note, the similar "Bézier Curves" effect is working just fine.

Annotated screenshot indicating the effects and their issues

When searching for (audio) "Channel" effects, you get two "Copy Channel"
effects, one in the Audio category, the other under the Audio channels
category. The "Copy Channel" effect, under the Audio category, when active does
the same as the "Swap Channels" effect in the Audio channels category.

Also, the Remap Channels effect seems to have no effect. Both the "Copy
Channels" and "Swap channels" under the Audio channels category seem to be
working fine.

task view

When selecting a category to filter the tasks, it doesn't work.

Reproduce steps:
1. Create a task and add a category to it
2. Go to the task view and filter by a category

Expected results:
The selected category should show in the box when selected and filter if tasks
have that category.

Actual results:
The selected category does get ticked but does not show in the box, nor does it
filter anything. As you can see in the screenshot, I selected a category which
is different to the task I created. Yet it still shows.

2018-09-09 Thread Alexander Semke
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=398342

Looks like our code that parses Origin's binary files is not ready for
big-endian ppc64 architecture. I'm not sure we can easily and quickly fix this
now. A pragmatic solution would be now to switch off the import of Origin's
files on ppc64. This would switch off one single feature and would unblock you
from shipping LabPlot in Adélie Linux. In parallel we'll look for a solution of
this problem in our code. Alternatively, compile and LabPlot in the LE-mode -
not sure this is possible, I'm not an expert here... What do you think about
this?

If it's actually set to relative mode, there's not much the KCM can do. Might
be a driver bug or a hardware issue, so it's worth reporting to linuxwacom
project.

For my tablet, there is a small distance above the tablet when pen movement
isn't registered anymore but it still causes jumps in relative mode. If lift my
pen further, relative mode works as intended.

> For the additional buttons, I don't see that "Express Buttons" tab.
> I didn't use the tablet finder tool to set it up, I just connect via
> Bluetooth then it works and I setup in the Settings.

1) Which device ID does the KCM show in the Select Tablet dropdown list in
square brackets?
2) Do you have a ~/.config/tabletdblocalrc file?
