[neon] [Bug 410779] New: Slow or unreliable downloads of KDE Neon release images and lack of adoption of Metalink
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=410779 Bug ID: 410779 Summary: Slow or unreliable downloads of KDE Neon release images and lack of adoption of Metalink Product: neon Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: All Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: neon-b...@kde.org Reporter: kristopher.i...@gmail.com CC: j...@jriddell.org, neon-b...@kde.org, sit...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY Sometimes downloading the latest KDE Neon release image (ISO) can be slow as well as unreliable. Download speeds can range in 200KB/s range and sometimes after waiting for 30 minutes the download simply fails, even when the client-side has a network connection that can easily handle 15MB/s. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Go to neon.kde.org 2. Download an ISO image OBSERVED RESULT Download is slow and sometimes fails. Since most users download via web browsers the failed downloads often cannot be resumed without additional workarounds. EXPECTED RESULT A 1.4GB download shouldn't take that long and shouldn't be a bottleneck to setting up KDE Neon for the first time. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The current proposed solution on neon.kde.org is to use Metalink files as one is generated for every file that is mirrored. However, Metalink isn't well adopted so most users don't know how to use the files and the software availability for some platforms may be scarce. The metalink files themselves do contain enough information in them to generate .torrent files that don't require any additional infrastructure. This means users can use their BitTorrent clients to download KDE Neon and the files will get pulled from the mirror servers via HTTP while also allowing any peers to seed to each other potentially reducing the bandwidth footprint on the mirrors. I created a Python tool that converts .meta4 files into .torrent files with web seeds that shows how this can be done. An example of this is also hosted at https://metalink.xyz to show it works. Please let me know what roadblocks exist in getting this functionality on neon.kde.org for downloads. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[okular] [Bug 410778] New: Okular does not respect EXIF orientation tag
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=410778 Bug ID: 410778 Summary: Okular does not respect EXIF orientation tag Product: okular Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: okular-de...@kde.org Reporter: 20l8kxxl8...@opayq.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY Okular does not respect EXIF orientation tag of JPG files, displaying the images in wrong orientation. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Take some photos, but in a wrong orientation. 2. View the files using Gwenview. The photos need to be rotated. 3. Use exiftran to fix the orientation. 4. View the resulting files using Gwenview. The photos are now displayed properly because Gwenview respects EXIF orientation tag. 5. Rename the files to 001.jpg, 002.jpg, etc. and compress them into a ZIP archive. 6. Rename the archive to .cbz so that Okular can open it using the Comicbook backend. 7. View the file using Okular. OBSERVED RESULT Okular does not rotate the photos according to the EXIF orientation tag. EXPECTED RESULT Okular rotates the photos automatically according to the EXIF orientation tag. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kwin] [Bug 395632] On RX Vega 64, KDE compositor does not run at 144Hz even though monitor refresh rate is set to 144Hz

I'm gonna look for some 144Hz display to buy. You are using AMD > graphics cards right? > > Does this mean you noticed low refresh rates on a laptop with high refresh > rate display and Intel graphics as well? I don't have a spare machine to put KDE Neon on, how possible would it be to apply patches to Kwin 5.16.4? I can definitely apply patches onto that version of KDE. Maybe try with the 75Hz display first and see if the issue exists there too? I think the issue will happen for anything above 60, but I could be wrong. Martin Floser was saying that if Painting blocks with vertical retrace is no then refresh rate is ignored, so I figured the issue would happen on Intel as well. I haven't done extensive testing on that yet. I've only done testing on AMD cards. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[digikam] [Bug 399923] Segmentation fault during face detection
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=399923 --- Comment #164 from caulier.gil...@gmail.com --- Timokau, If you want to test the current development code for the new face detection/recognition based on DNN, the git branch is here : https://cgit.kde.org/digikam.git/log/?h=gsoc19-face-recognition This branch is synchronized with master and is up to date. You need at least opencv 3.4.6 (i tested with this version) or opencv 4.x To test, you need to setup a new repository with test images and new database. after a fresh DK session, and a complete scan for new items to populate the database, go to Face tab from left side bar and run a face detection only process. Do not touch any other option than one to select DNN algorithm in advanced section. Let's the process running and wait to see if faces are detected properly, without crash and good result. The face recognition is not yet finalized. It do not give results here yet. Gilles Caulier -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kscreenlocker] [Bug 410772] New: Lock screen breakages provide insecure instructions
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=410772 Bug ID: 410772 Summary: Lock screen breakages provide insecure instructions Product: kscreenlocker Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: sciencema...@gmail.com CC: bhus...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY When the screen locker breaks it provides instructions to the user on how to switch to a virtual terminal and unlock the screen from there. It looks like there are a couple different versions of the instructions depending on the session system being used. See: https://github.com/KDE/kscreenlocker/blob/fb21221ad0940af3dc50be96de16b5a9e065d53c/abstractlocker.cpp#L56 This idea is really cool, especially because the instructions seem to be carefully written in such a way that someone with very little linux knowledge could execute them, which is awesome. Unfortunately the instructions don't tell the user to log out of the virtual terminal. Users who don't know they should do that, or don't know how will now have a virtual terminal logged in to their machine until the next time it restarts. This would allow a malicious person to simply walk up to the machine while the user was away, switch terminals, and have full access to the machine. This is particularly dangerous for one of the sets of instructions that asks your to log in as root. STEPS TO REPRODUCE Somehow break the login screen. I don't know how to do this. I am not sure why mine broke in the first place. OBSERVED RESULT The instructions on the screen, if followed correctly, have the user leave a logged in virtual terminal that anyone could use without a password. EXPECTED RESULT Pretty much the same instructions, with the same command, but with " & logout" on the end of the command. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Doesn't matter it's in the code and it's been there for a while. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

The codebase I was editing is C++. Just before the crash, I pasted two lines of template code in a .h file. The weird thing is that in the callstack I saw references to quickopen which you also mentioned, but I'm pretty sure I was not trying to use the quick open box. The mouse pointer was hovering somewhere near the new pasted lines in the editor panel and I didn't hit any of the shortcuts for the quick open actions. I have some plugins disabled: svn, perforce, bazaar, ninja, meson, ctags, man pages The core file is unfortunately not very helpful, there are no debug symbols -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

I want to switch between double click and single click. I have followed numerous instructions on different sites to try and get double click working for me. As it defaults to single click. Neither of these options work for me. https://superuser.com/questions/1426077/how-to-enable-and-disable-double-click-mouse-options-in-kde https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=156480 STEPS TO REPRODUCE systemsettings5 1. Or 1. vim ~/.config/kdeglobals ... [KDE] ... SingleClick=false 2. Restart - for ensure nothing else could be causing issues. no joy. OBSERVED RESULT Changing between single click double click in ~/.config/kdeglobals SingleClick=false Dose not enable double click in dolphin. EXPECTED RESULT I should be able to double click to open and single click to select files / folders in dolphin.
