This but is fixed for me! It was not a bug in software - it was a bug in
notebook firmware.
To all others who still see this problem with no battery detected: do you have
a lenovo notebook? maybe you have a bug in firmware too and we can close this
software bug in plasma battery monitor.

[Discover] [Bug 420105] crash when hitting "update all"

2020-04-21 Thread Martin Tlustos
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=420105

O.k., tried. gdb gives the following output:
Attaching to process 11342
Could not attach to process. If your uid matches the uid of the target
process, check the setting of /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope, or try
again as the root user. For more details, see /etc/sysctl.d/10-ptrace.conf
ptrace: Vorgang nicht zulässig.
/home/martin/11342: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden.

Running as root makes it unresponsive.

Quitting DiscoverNotifier and starting it with gdb works, but then it doesn't
crash. I have attached all the error messages that show up in gdb.

Sorry for being such a noob with this. Will try again as soon as other updates
show up.

Do you have a powerdevil/powersaving settings set for the brightness ?
Aka `kcmshell powerdevilprofilesconfig`

Do you use hibernation on your laptop, especially when the computer is "locked
for a longer period" ?

If we can't reproduce it anymore, maybe we can resolve this one with status

I did enable that, thought it won't index if i disconnect the drive and
reconnect it after a while (this happened in Picasa) if i didn't check that
box.

Disabled this now, it doesn't hang anymore. Thanks for the suggestion!
Not sure if it's indexing, though, no visual cue (there are so many files, 0%
for 5 minutes now), Picasa was popping up a lower corner of the screen
notification if it found any new images/videos.

Later edit: Checked the sample of digikam, seems to be doing the indexing in
the background :-)

Marching ants selection

I can confirm this for the 4.2.9 appimage and a recent 5.0.0 prealpha appimage.

It also happens with a single layer image.

If you make a selection on the canvas and then invert it, the marching ants are
shown around the canvas border.
There seems to be a problem with selection boundaries that are on the edge of
the canvas:
If you make an on canvas selection and invert it, then use the Move tool, the
resulting marching ants display is as expected but then it does not correspond
to the global selection mask.
The attached files Ants-A.png and GSM-A.png show an example of this.

SUMMARY

My PC audio card has three input ports (Rear Microphone, Front Microphone and
Line In). However, systemsettings shows only 2, and they are labelled
incorrectly. (See screenshot)

Pavucontrol does show all three. (see next screenshot)

Now this is where it gets interesting:
- If I set the input to 'Front microphone' in pavucontrol, Systemsettings will
(incorrectly) tell me it is set to 'Rear microphone'
- If I set the input to 'Rear microphone' in pavucontrol, Systemsettings will
(incorrectly) tell me it is set to 'Line In'
- If I set the input to 'Line In' in pavucontrol, Systemsettings will not show
anything in that field. (see third screenshot)

It looks like the labels of the inputs are all displaced by 1 (which makes me
think that it might be an array index problem).

The plasma volume control applet has the exact same behaviour. (it and
systemsettings show the same (wrong) label for the set input).

For the output devices I have the 'Line Out' and the 'Headphones' ports.
Pavucontol shows me a drop-down menu where I can select this, KDE
systemsettings does not. (presumably because it automatically switches to
headphones if it is plugged in, so a menu to manually select this would not be
useful?)

My hunch is that the drop-down menu where you can select the input port tries
to skip the 'Front microphone' entry similar to how it skips the 'Headphones'
entry. Which works fine on my laptop, which has only 2 input ports (built in
microphone, and the microphone jack) and thus has nothing to select, but
somehow messes up the input port labels on my PC which has 3 input ports.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have 3 input ports on computer
2. Start plasma
3. Open systemsettings and go the the audio section

OBSERVED RESULT

Labels of input ports are displaced by 1:
'Front Microphone' is displayed as 'Rear Microphone'
'Rear Microphone' is displayed as 'Line In'
'Line In' is not displayed

EXPECTED RESULT

Labels in selection drop down box are correct:
'Front Microphone' is displayed as 'Front Microphone'
'Rear Microphone' is displayed as 'Rear Microphone'
'Line In' is displayed as 'Line In'

Ok, thanks for the feedback. The albums are also monitored in the background
(if enabled) with the QFileSystemWatcher. The problem is the QFilesystemWatcher
itself, that adding a folder path (only if it is a network path?) under MacOS
takes extremely long and the system is blocked. So a bug in the
QFileSystemWatcher or MacOS.

Interesting option, thanks! This still does not trigger a system bell, but it
means that Konsole manually replicates the behavior of the system bell (if that

Of course, it would be much better if Konsole could just respect my global

The network path is treated as a local folder mounted in /Volumes/
via smb://
QFileSystemWatcher - why not create a new thread and run it there? maybe

Use ShadowedRectangle for Card backgrounds

Summary:
This switches cards to use ShadowedRectangle for their background. It also
refreshes their
design a bit, based on feedback from the VDG.

Still WIP because of potential design issues and I'm not entirely happy with
the code for
the actual cards. Ideally I'd also move a bunch of this stuff to C++ but that'd
involve a
reimplementing a bunch of Control behaviour.

Test Plan:

Thank you for the mail. Yes, all images are saved in png format,

So, changing the background color to white has no function what so ever?"

Okay, so we're talking about PNG. If I save

* With transparency enabled, then the png has transparent pixels if I load it
again
* If I disable that checkbox, and select a different color than black, like
white, and I save as PNG, I do get a PNG with the transparent pixels replaced
with that background color

I've checked this with 4.2.9 and with 4.3.0. Are you using distribution
packages? If so, please check whether the appimage works for you.

Picasa used an in memory database, that was written to disk, upon the shutdown
(exit) of the application. Why not consider using this for performance? I see
the files are pretty small, except the thumbnails-digikam.db which is over 2GiB

Hello,

when I start amarok -d there are no messages and I don't see any log file in
my home directory or in /var/log. Nothing also in journalctl.
Do I miss something?

in mysql log for mariadb nothing related to amarok.
The problem is reproductible on my system:
I take a track from the local collection and via double clicking or a move I
add it to the playlist. The lyrics are not displayed in context->lyrics for the
current playing track and also not in the track details.
I quit amarok and reload it. For the tracks in the playlist the lyrics are
displayed in the track detail and in the context->lyrics.
If I add a new track the lyrics are not displayed.

I confirm also that the lyrics are present in the DB : I can see it in the
lyrics using the tracks.url value with this SQL request:
MariaDB [amarokdb]> select lyrics.lyrics, tracks.url from lyrics, tracks where
tracks.url= lyrics.url and  tracks.title="De la main gauche";

Do you need some other actions or data?

Regards
Philippe

A distro can set the logo as either absolute path (which is likely what
opensuse does) OR icon name (which gets resolved via the theme to support
scaling). Neon does the latter which is why it *can* change. What the recording
shows is unexpected change though.

There is something broken somewhere lower in the stack. If you look at the
recording, the first time the KCM is opened it has the logo start-here-kde
while on neon it should be start-here-kde-neon (which is part of hicolor and
thus always available). So it should *always* be a neonishy icon and the fact
that it is not points at something being wrong with caches somewhere either in
KIconLoader or QIcon. Or perhaps hicolor is lost as fallback theme along the
way?

To reproduce simply put some start-here-kde-foo icon in your hicolor theme and
set LOGO=start-here-kde-foo in /etc/os-release (+ ensure there's no
kcm-about-distrorc anywhere setting an override logo) and check sys info KCM
now shows that foo icon.

Then look at the these two cases:

- opens system settings
- change icon theme
- go to sys info
- observe it now being start-here-kde

next

- open system settings
- **go to sys info**
- it will be start-here-kde-foo
- change icon theme
- go to sys info again
- the icon will still be start-here-kde-foo!

the only difference between these two scenarios is the icon resolution possibly
getting cached in the second scenario and therefore resolution continues to
work as expected the second time.

All KCM instances are thrown away once you go to another KCM, so this isn't a
KCM-side issue, from a KCM POV the icon is loaded every time from scratch.

Moving bug to kiconthemes as closes possible culprit.

It seems to be Ctrl modifiers that are broken. Shortcuts using Shift and Alt
seem to still be intact.
Also tested in XTerm, which there is no issue detaching tmux sessions or using
the Ctrl modifier in general.
Konsole crashed at one point when doing Ctrl+b outside of a tmux session.

I do not see the direct relation to Bug 375314 despite Comment 8 mentioning it.
So lets keep the two separate until we can directly link them to the same error
source. I have "HTML email disabled by default". Thus, my setting does not
apply to the other bug in this asppect.

And yes, I can still reproduce the issue with
- KDEPIM 5.13.3 (19.12.3)
- Frameworks 5.69.0

Yes, it is a different bug. That's why I referred to that different bug,
instead of having Comment 8 confuse everyone over here.

[kstars] [Bug 420373] New: Feature request: Bahtinov mask focus assist tool

2020-04-21 Thread Patrick
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=420373

Bug ID: 420373
Summary: Feature request: Bahtinov mask focus assist tool
   Product: kstars
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: All
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: pr_molen...@hotmail.com
  Reporter: pr_molen...@hotmail.com
CC: mutla...@ikarustech.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 127742
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=127742&action=edit
GUI example for Bahtinov focus assistant.

SUMMARY
Implement Bahtinov focus in Ekos.

Allow focus using a Bahtinov mask. This should be an expansion of the current
focus implementation in kstars/Ekos.

As Bahtinov focus is usually done on one star at the time, the auto select star
should be disabled, forcing the user to select the star on which to perform the
Bahtinov focus algorithm.

For the Bahtinov focus algorithm the algorithm used in the Bahtinov-grabber
project can be used (and adapted to fit in kstars/Ekos).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Point your telescope at a bright star and place the Bahtinov mask on your
telescope
2. Start kstars
3. Open Ekos
4. Connect to camera
5. Select focus tab
6. Select detection algorithm Bahtinov
7. Capture an image
8. Select star in image
9. The Bahtinov lines will be shown in the image and the HFR (or focus error)
is shown below the V-Curve

OBSERVED RESULT
Not applicable as it is a new feature

EXPECTED RESULT
Assist in focus using a Bahtinov mask

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
All supported OS.

See attached screenshot.

It probably crashes in Exiv2 when loading the metadata. Probably through an
image with wrong metadata. I don't want to disappoint you, we have never tested
digiKam with such a number of imges. Through my photography hobby I have about
60K images over the years, Gilles probably has over 100K. By random generator,
I created 200K images as a test. But millions... I think it won't work. A fast
internal MySQL DB on SSD is then mandatory anyway. Since we keep all albums in
the tree view model, from about 50K albums / folder there is a strong
performance problem...

Still in 5.18.4. I can also add that this seems to happen right after a KDE

I actually tried re-enabling the laptop monitor to see if the panel was there,
but it was not. This was the output when I tried to `kstart5 plasmashell` on

Indeed, because i installed the non-debug version.
You can symbolicate crash log with the atos tool.
You need to manually copy the exact .dSYM file for libdigikamcore.7.0.0.dylib -
from the release build, not from the debug build, they are not equivalent as
the builds on macOS are not deterministic. Next fire up atos

atos -arch x86_64 -o /libdigikamcore.7.0.0.dylib.dSYM/Contents/Resources/DWARF/libdigikamcore.7.0.0.dylib
-l 0x108a51000

where 0x108a51000 is the load path of the binary from the crash log
https://gist.github.com/0wnrepo/6e9ddb5f69f5e7eb09942f89c6306388

All good, I'm testing it *thoroughly*, although I only have macOS 10.14.5.

[digikam] [Bug 420334] GUI hangs when adding a network folder

2020-04-21 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=420334

--- Comment #27 from caulier.gil...@gmail.com ---
The debug stage under OSX hurt me. It's definitively too much complicated...

As Maik, said, the cardh is located in DMetadata::load() interface which call
Exiv2 libary API to handle file metadata. It's know that Exiv2 is not stble
enough everywhere... but i normally wrapped all Exiv2 call with C++ exception
and protected all Exiv2 calls with Mutex to be thread safe. I tested myself
with unit test to see if Exiv2 support separated thread operations, and it's
not the case. I reported this problem to Exiv2 team, but making thread safe API
is delayed to next release (even if this point is very important for DK, as all
the multithreaded inside...)

So i suspect a crash due to a cases where Exiv2 code is not protected by C++
exceptions handling (there still plenty of places in source code).

To resolve you problem, you need to found which image crash DK while parsing,
try to reproduce the crash with Exiv2 CLI tool, and report the problem to Exiv2
Github bugzilla.

Another hang on the Timeline tab (beta3-debug):
https://gist.github.com/0wnrepo/6bd62ec27806c08de9bcb38cd3563336

Seems that there is too much work done on the main thread (the one the GUI is
using) and this is why it blocks the app. DispatchQueue_1:
com.apple.main-thread (serial)

Can you provide me with a debug build log for all relevant files accessed by
digiKam that could cause this crash? I can just run that from scratch, after i
delete the current database, and the last line in the log should contain the
file in question that crashes the app.

This bug seems to be at core here:

template
QVector KisOutlineGenerator::outlineImpl(typename
StorageStrategy::StorageType buffer, qint32 xOffset, qint32 yOffset, qint32
width, qint32 height)

It generates no paths under these conditions.

Changing text editor background colour

I don't see this with the 4.2.8 and 4.2.9 appimages.

If I change the text editor background colour, it changes and the text colour
stays the same.
Even if I select/highlight the text and then change the background colour, the
text colour is not affected.

However, if you change the text colour and then, without saving, you change the
background colour, the text changes to the previous text colour
