On my KDE neon machine, these both behave differently:

$ xterm   -e 'echo "hello"; sleep 3'
$ konsole -e 'echo "hello"; sleep 3'

The first does what it's supposed to do, while the second fails. The second
needs to be changed to this for it to work:

$ konsole -e sh -c 'echo "hello"; sleep 3'

Am I missing something for why this should be so?

Konsole from the GUI and immediately typing commands, and from invoking Konsole
from the command line with commands as an argument string?

As it is now, they are subtly different in how expect the default running state
of Konsole to be.

For example, when I run Konsole from the GUI, I don't have to specify which
shell that I should be using for the commands I'm about to type in. But when I
invoke Konsole from the command line, I have to prepend a "sh -c" to my command
string.

If there is a good reason to do it this way, I'll sign on for it, although I'd
like to see it documented in the konsole --help text so others don't get
tripped up by it like me.

Windows' built-in "compress to ZIP" feature in File Explorer has this issue,
and can be reproduced with a non-English Windows installation and files with
non-English names.

For example, in Windows XP (Japanese):
1. Create a file with Japanese characters, e.g. "あいうえお.txt"
2. Right click the file / folder and "Send to" > "Compressed (zipped) folder"
(Japanese: "送る" > "圧縮(zip 形式)フォルダー")
3. The ZIP file created will use the Shift_JIS encoding.
4. Thus, when opening the created file with 7z or unzip, the filename cannot be
properly interpreted.

[korganizer] [Bug 158921] recurring entries on Feb 29. missing in non leap years

 CC||gjditchfi...@acm.org

This behavior is not a bug. The Internet Calendaring standard
(https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5545#section-3.3.10) says

Recurrence rules may generate recurrence instances with an invalid
date (e.g., February 30) or nonexistent local time (e.g., 1:30 AM
on a day where the local time is moved forward by an hour at 1:00
AM). Such recurrence instances MUST be ignored and MUST NOT be
counted as part of the recurrence set.

Current versions of KOrganizer give you a choice:

 - Recur on February 29th only (i.e. only in leap years)

 - Recur on the last day of February (the 28th in non-leap years)

 - Recur on the 60th day of the year (March 1st in non-leap years)

Alex, I'm not part of the KDE team. My email is an alias used to help me track
things in my own inbox. Synergy is a KM (keyboard/mouse) screen sharing
solution. You can use the hardware of one machine to control all other
machines in realtime. This is in some ways superior to remote desktop or ssh.
Synergy is known to be buggy and why I asked if you used it. I use it for
working on both the personal desktop and work laptop.

https://alternativeto.net/software/synergy/

Read the reviews if you have further interest.

Full screen usually means full screen for an application, I'm mainly talking
about the embedded video player such as youtube, twitch, vimeo, etc.

this operation will consume memory.

Error Log from KDE

SUMMARY
In short im a very long time PC User and im very experienced about Hardware,
but im new to Linux and my english is far from perfect (sorry about that), my
External Seagate HDD is running fine in Win/Linux.

I try'ed to created my first Partition in Linux (besides manual install where i
wasn't using KDE Partition Manager, i guess) so i though first its my fault...
but i was wrong.

I started KDE Partition Manager.
I removed my old (only) Partition on my 1TB USB drive.
I created a new Partition Table (GPT) and clicked Apply.
I create a new (Primary/Single) EXT4 Partition but i get a error message
(uploaded in attachment).
I try it again but still failed, i created a MS-DOS Partition Table clicked
Apply and then i gave it another try
on the partition... but failed again, with the same error as in the attachment.

Workaround:
I choosed new Partition Table (GPT) but this time "i don't clicked on Apply",
instead i choosed the Partition EXT4
with no differend settings as befor (Primary/Single 1TB Partition) and it
worked.

I think there just must be atleast 2 differend jobs or it comes
to this error. Maybe im wrong, i don't try to reproduce this error... im just
happy that it works now, but i want to let you guys know, there must be a major
bug in the GUI or something else.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1.Remove all Partition and click apply.
2.Create Primary Single Partition without no other Pendingjobs.
3.

Okay, so you're saying I need to enquote the argument string when I launch

Fair enough.

Now when I do this, I can confirm that it behaves as it used to:

konsole -e sh -c 'echo foo && sleep 3 && echo "bar" && sleep 3 && echo
"closing"'

...the difference being that it's now necessary to use this idiom:

-e sh -c 'fully enquoted string'
  ^

But why should I have to add a "sh -c" prefix to my command string?

Testing some more, it doesn't work at all when I do this:

konsole -e 'echo foo && sleep 3 && echo "bar" && sleep 3 && echo "closing"'

According to the Konsole --help documentation, -e is the command to execute.
Konsole should be executing my enquoted command as it had done in the past, yet
nothing is executed. With this, Konsole appears for an instant just to
disappear. The print statements aren't even executed in the originating shell.

My bad. I assumed that, being a regression, this was meant to be fixed in the
new minor release but I see now that the patch is not in the 20.08 branch. It
is scheduled for the 20.12 version.

Still broken.

The only thing that works now is moving back to the latest point in the
navigation history. In other words, the first click on "Back" brings you to the
correct place, any further click on it just moves a few lines up or down.

"Forward" is also completely broken (most of the time not even enabled).

I'm afraid to say I'm still seeing the issue in 20.08.3 [reproducible following
the steps in comment 6].

Subjectively, I think 20.08.3 is a bit better. I've left Dolphin idle at a
location that flashes for about 10 minutes and I don't think the CPU usage is
growing over time anymore. As it would eventually get to 100% CPU.

I'll attach a screenshot of the folder I tested with. I was surprised:
Spectacle actually caught the first sub-folder in the middle of a flash [note
half an arrow icon].

By leaving Dolphin idle can report some consistent CPU numbers from top:

*) Normal usage [with the flashing showing], Dolphin CPU usage stays at:
11.9%-12.6%.

*) Scrolling the Folder panel up [so "foobar2000" and the flashing items are
not visible], Dolphin CPU drops to: 4%-4.3%

*) Collapsing the folder tree [so the sub-folders of "foobar2000" are not items
in the Folder panel tree anymore], Dolphin CPU drops to: 0%

Hi,

This annoys me too. It seems with each upgrade the gtk buttons are getting
smaller and smaller, now they are tiny in Firefox, Pamac etc. I am using Sierra
Breeze Enhanced but its the same issue with Breeze default, and several other
gtk themes I tried.

Any fix should be universal to all themes.

I'm not sure what is the problem here honestly.
You will realize that the disk is not available anymore the next time you try
to read from or write to it, no?

That's standard behavior in other filemanagers. Windows even close the whole
file explorer window IIRC.

Huh, it looks perfectly centered for me, but I have a hidpi 4k screen at 200%.
