Bad theory. Tried right before it, 3281569c1, with 342961766 applied on top to
build, and it still seems to go proportional. So three possibilities, it's
before that, it's not a regression after all, or the trigger is in something
other than kwin.

[kwin] [Bug 429377] New: Wayland: zoom effect reverting to proportional mouse-tracking

2020-11-19 Thread Duncan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=429377

Bug ID: 429377
Summary: Wayland: zoom effect reverting to proportional
mouse-tracking
   Product: kwin
   Version: git master
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: effects-various
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: 1i5t5.dun...@cox.net
  Target Milestone: ---

kwin-wayland zoom-effect just started (I think just started) reverting to
proportional mouse tracking. The option continues to /say/ it's still on
whatever other mouse-tracking, and setting something else does seem to work
momentarily, but as soon as the (focus follows mouse) pointer focus switches
windows, it's back to actually doing proportional. I tried all three other
options, centered/push/disabled, and all three revert to proportional.

I /believe/ this is a regression within the past week, as I /think/ it was
working when I switched to wayland not much longer than that ago, but since I'm
only about 10 days on plasma-wayland I can't say for /sure/ that it's a
regression, maybe I just hadn't noticed it yet.

FWIW I'm now on kwin commit 3acb1a788e592e8b8f1894c56330cfc2fb9663bb from my
update a few minutes ago (with a quit to CLI and plasma-wayland restart, no
*DM) to see if it was fixed before I filed a bug -- no luck. Just reading the
log I /suspect/ the bug may be triggered by fe6c29607 Add windowID to
EffectWindow due to window-switching triggering the revert-to-proportional, but
building before 342961766 isn't first-try-simple due to the the seat/keyboard
changes it adjusted to, and I've not yet tried revert-on-head or
cherry-pick-on-old to test it.

The linked issue is not fixed, it only has been closed. If you check the two
comments on it, you'll find it has been redirected by upstream to yet another
bug tracker, and the actual new upstream issue is this one:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/NetworkManager-openconnect/-/issues/14

This one has seen zero activity by upstream developers in the past year (but
already got an upvote, likely by another affected user), and the issue is still
present.

dS810, per chance, are you not using a display manager such as SDDM or GDM? The
accounts service generally expects that a display manager interacts with it for
stuff like locale, so it being dead when you're in a user session isn't really
part of its expected flow of events.

Either way, it failing to have a sane state on DBus activation is most likely
an upstream bug, so I filed an issue there.

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/accountsservice/accountsservice/-/issues/93

Marking this as resolved upstream for now.

If there's anything that can be done downstream to work around this, please
reopen this bug.

Bhushan I've just tried to replicate this issue but I don't see my network
adapters in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf to set them to unmanaged.
I've restarted NetworkManager service to see if they appear but they don't.

They both show up in ifconfig though.

Can you please test and confirm if this issue is still occurring or if this bug
report can be marked as resolved. I'm setting status to "needsinfo" pending
your response, please change back to "reported" with further info or "resolved"
when you respond, thanks.

Confirmed on 5.20.3, this needs improving, it shows two bluetooth icons. It
would be nice if the internet connection one was differentiated to show that it

Sadly, I fully believe this.

I don't know why, and this might be due to the recent improvements related to
the notifications, this has been less an issue for me.

Ah, yes, obviously after rereading my comment from last year: the notifications
do not cover the network widget anymore!

Believe it or not, I have looked into it, and it's not as easy as it seems,
because you need to disambiguate the sources of the disconnection (happened
naturally vs user-initiated) and the code isn't set up for this right now. It
needs some refactoring to support it.
