Ouch...

Maybe the source node id can be held in a thumbnail xattr (and, if present,
used for cross checking)

> ... or we implement some cache invalidation when files are moved / deleted.
Or maybe "when it is noticed".

It would definitely be nice if refreshing the panel sorted the thumbnails.

Git commit d41048ccc582bcfeef003969eaf8a0f8e59e5da9 by Dmitry Kazakov, on
behalf of Santhosh Anguluri.
Committed on 18/02/2021 at 08:03.
Pushed by dkazakov into branch 'master'.

Fix "Default colour model for new images"

Before this commit, only working color space is changed
when default color model is changed. But that does not
change anything to the new image dialog. This MR provides
an option to use a default set color model or last used
color model using a checkbox.

Tested as follows:

1)Config Krita -> Color Management -> General ->
Change default color model for new images(with checkbox checked).
2) Make a new image
3) The new default model and bitdepth appears.

[kwin] [Bug 433094] No way to disable tearing prevention

2021-02-18 Thread Vlad Zahorodnii
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=433094

This option was removed in 5.21 because now compositing is synchronized to
hardware vblank events and the screens are repainted as close as possible to
the next vblank. It is up to Xorg and drivers what display buffer swaps are
synchronized to.

If you have an NVIDIA video card, setting __GL_SYNC_DISPLAY_DEVICE to a 144hz
monitor should still work though.

> Is a Wayland session affected ?
On Wayland we have proper support for mixed refresh rate setups.

[kdeconnect] [Bug 433142] New: Improvement for installer component needed

2021-02-18 Thread Alexander Nolting
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=433142

Bug ID: 433142
Summary: Improvement for installer component needed
   Product: kdeconnect
   Version: 1.4
  Platform: Microsoft Windows
OS: Microsoft Windows
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: common
  Assignee: albertv...@gmail.com
  Reporter: a.nolt...@almano.de
  Target Milestone: ---

The UWP Installer (sideload.appx) should be improved to avoid leaving firewall
rules within replaced windows installations.
As the installer itself doesn't setup firewall rules, windows will as it
detects properly UWP apps requireing network access. Windows itself asks the
user to setup a firewall rule for this application.
This causes for users which often updates the kdeconnect application constantly
4 no more used firewall rules.
Along with the design of Windows Firewall which offer the possibility to
identify an application simply by its name and installation path for a certain
firewall rule, this can cause issues.
Leaving this firewall rules would leave possibly a security hole were as evil
individuums can try to prepare their own kdeconnect app from the souces along
with maliscious code and try bring a user to download and install this app
along with the same file name would allow the individuum to hide required
internet access as windows doesn't ask anymore for setting up rules.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install latest version.
2. Open Windows Firewall control
3. check set up rules for kdeconnect

OBSERVED RESULT
the former installation left a firewall rule identified by the name of the
appliaction and the installation path

EXPECTED RESULT
the UWP installer deleted old unused firewall rules

I just updated to 5.21.0 on my Archlinux box and the network widget now works
again after the failure of 5.20 series. I don't use NetworkManager nor have
"Networks" popup in my system tray. I still could not find a way to set the
refresh rate (currently it seems to be around 2 Hz, too much for me) but at
least the widget works.

Smoothing Options for Multihand Brush

Before this MR there were shortcut actions to trigger Brush
Smoothing Actions of Freehand tool alone. This MR extends
those actions over multihand tool as well.

Before: KisToolMultiBrushFactory is derived from KisToolPaintFactoryBase

After: KisToolMultiBrushFactory is derived from KisToolBrushFactory
and hence inherits the shortcut actions as well.

Unnatural extra arrow key press after search

SUMMARY
When I perform a search and get multiple results, I now have to make an extra
arrow key press first to move the focus from the input field to the first
result, and only then I can move the selection to the second result. My muscle
memory from the past Kickoff and App Dasboard conflicts with this: a single
arrow key press there selects the second result. This seems more natural: if
you need the first result, you just press Enter; if you need the second result,
you press arrow and then Enter. In the new Kickoff, "Enter" and "arrow, Enter"
now do the same, which is weird and redundant.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Launch Kickoff and search for something that gives multiple results
2. Press "Down" or "Up" on your keyoard, depending on launcher locaton, in the
direction of the second result

OBSERVED RESULT
First result is still selected

EXPECTED RESULT
Second result should now be selected

SUMMARY

When I keep down a key like "Space", "Back Space", "Arrow Up", "Arrow down",
... whatever the key, it is not taken into account. I have to release the key
and pressed it again if I want to see two "aa" for example in an input. And I
want to erase the text I just type, it becomes really hard to do as I have to
type backspace as many times as I want to erase characters.
It happens on every software I can use so it does not depend of an application.
It's global.

SUMMARY
After the update to Plasma 5.21 and Frameworks 5.79, launching certain
applications returns the error message "For security reasons, launching
executables is not allowed in this context". Those applications worked just
fine before. In my example, the WordPress application cannot be launched from
Latte anymore, while people on Reddit report not being able to open Cafetran
Espresso from the panel.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Try to open an app

OBSERVED RESULT
The app does not open and an error message is returned

EXPECTED RESULT
The app opens.

(In reply to Maik Qualmann from comment #8)
> When I compare the two text files, I see that the file modification date has
> not changed.

What you see are exif fields inside the file, not the file properties. I
suppose that 'scan for new items' detects file changes checking the file
properties (provided py the file system), not looking inside exif metadata of
each file. As you can see with the two new attached files, the file properties
changed after the date modification with the external tool (anyway, it changed
also within the exif data, see FileInodeChangeDate field).

It seems like it's a driver bug. __GL_SYNC_DISPLAY_DEVICE has no any effect. If
it's set to the fastest monitor, buffer swaps are still capped to the slowest
monitor.

(In reply to fynnbwdt from comment #4)
> I understand that you want to stick to your new method of synchronizing but
> why can't there be an option to not really synchronize at all?

Because compositing is no longer driven by a timer as it was in previous
versions. Also, on Wayland, vsync is always on.

Not sure, maybe we just need to introduce an X11-specific environment variable
to disable vsync and force kwin to use software vblank events instead.

I also noticed issues with my panel icons. But mine are in fact bigger now;
exactly one pixel wider, but with the same height. This causes them to appear
blurred. The same goes for task switcher icons. Panel height is set at 28.

The same panel in Plasma 5.20 and 5.21 right before and after the upgrade

Hi Nate, I read about this in your Plasma 5.21 blog post. I just did the
upgrade. One of my systems uses a vertical panel, and now its clock looks thus.
There is no distance between the two lines anymore. I had to think of this bug
report immediately. Could it be related?

The font actually has some metrics in it to have some padding. I know that
because when I decided for it, I tried other 7-segment fonts in a horizontal
panel and one of the other fonts had no padding to the edge of the panel at
all, whereas this one did.

This is also confirmed as present in Plasma 5.21

1) Set Gamma in System Preferences.
2) Reboot
3) Gamma will not return to the correct settings until you physically go back
into the Gamma page of System Prefs. (Resuming from sleep doesn't have this
bug).

[digikam] [Bug 431951] UI lockup for upwards of 15 seconds while just scrolling album views and selecting images

Thanks...

I've compiled from source as usual,
http://commits.kde.org/digikam/54974097ef336dc9ba1edaa90bbade42529ab084

Although I've run in GDB again I have not paused at the delay, as that affects
the timer you've just coded in.

Instead I paused after the UI became responsive again:

KickOff with an empty right view

SUMMARY
Refreshing KickOff's application list twice without changing the category
empties the right view

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. open KickOff and keep it open (inside plasmoidviewer or add it to the
desktop)
2. update the application list twice without changing the category (in my
testing I removed and readded the same icon to ~/.local/share/applications,
waiting for Kwin to refresh the application list in between)

OBSERVED RESULT
KickOff's right view just goes empty, changing categories fixes it however

EXPECTED RESULT
KickOff should just update the view, adding/removing the icons regardless of
how many refreshes there are in the application list

[digikam] [Bug 432369] Wrong time for mp4 in _almost_ all places, metadata differs from filesystem/other apps. DB issues?

2021-02-18 Thread Thomas
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=432369

Just to add for future readers:

I solved this by first adjusting my dates to what I want them to be, then
creating sidecars for all my phone video files (xmp files), and added metadata
for xmp:CreateDate and xmp:ModifyDate using exiftool.

Command, if it helps anyone, that I use for creating sidecars is (\ is just for
splitting command over multiple lines):
exiftool -P -progress -ext mp4 \
-tagsfromfile @ \
-filemodifydate \
-createdate \
-modifydate \
-datetimeoriginal \
-srcfile %d%f.xmp \

This creates .xmp for all mp4 files in .
Perhaps this can be simplified, still figuring exiftool out, but it works for
me.

Apparently Digikam reads these sidecars instead of the files if they exist, so
it ignores the dates of the files and sorts them accordingly. A bit annoying to
have to do so, but I will most likely tag most of my photos anyway, so a
sidecar would be created either way.

Another annoying thing is it _ONLY_ reads the metadata from sidecars, not just
the data present in the sidecar, and any other data from the file. This would
be preferable from my point of view.

Since I only added the two tags to my files, the metadata properties look like
this:

https://i.postimg.cc/T3MrXdz6/sidecar-exists.png

While any file not having a sidecar is shown like this:

https://i.postimg.cc/mgY7Zx4F/sidecar-non-existant.png

Not even the duration is shown for my files with sidecars. This should, IMO, be
read from the file if it is not in the sidecar. Perhaps there is a reason for
this behavior? Might look into this later. For now it works.

This can probably be done from within digikam as well, perhaps using the batch
process or metadata editor to shift the time and add an xmp. But I want this
automated when importing my files from my cameras/devices (and I do not use
digikam to import my files).

Surely this broke the ABI

https://invent.kde.org/pim/akonadi/-/commit/261678d504a27d75eaa1d8b1730e837f39858952

> template inline static void registerAttribute()

would be code that ends up in the caller of the template function, in this case
zanshin, calling into the public symbol (albeit private function)

> void registerAttribute(std::unique_ptr attribute);

which has a different calling signature as per that commit

Namely the new symbol is (from a master build):
> _ZN7Akonadi16AttributeFactory17registerAttributeESt10unique_ptrINS_9AttributeESt14default_deleteIS2_EE

while the one before was (from a 20.04 build):
> _ZN7Akonadi16AttributeFactory17registerAttributeEPNS_9AttributeE

a name and presses return. At some later point, the "New Folder" dialog shows
up again for seemingly no reason. When this issue appears, it can be observed
that in all X11 windows (xterm, xev, ...), the F10 key gets pressed repeatedly.

https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/1634324#step/dolphin/23

This issue doesn't appear on Plasma 5.20.

Menu item height comparison

SUMMARY

On Plasma 5.21.0, the menu items seem larger in GTK3 applications using the
breeze-gtk theme compared to the menu items of Qt applications using the breeze
theme.
It doesn't seem to affect Firefox and Thunderbird for some reason, but it's
visible on Shotwell and Handbrake for example.

On GTK2 applications (tested with Gimp) the menu item height seems smaller.

[plasma-pa] [Bug 433159] New: Changing audio output crashes plasmashell

2021-02-18 Thread rLy

journal log with 3 crashes

SUMMARY
I have a few virtual sinks to record audio in a separate track, when I switched
the audio of an application to the virtual sink it crashed plasmashell. The
crash happens after selecting an output then switching back to the Devices tab.
I'm able to reproduce it fairly reliably but there are some inconsistencies.
Most of the time the crash only happens 1 time per application, after a crash
on a given application it "fixes" and works as expected but then starting a new
application and switching the output for that cause plasma to crash again.
Inconsistencies:
1) after 4-5 crashes it seemed to "fix" itself but I didn't do a lot of testing
for this, I just went through multiple applications to see if it crashes every
time but it just stopped crashing after that.
2) even though most of the time it fixed itself for a given application after a
crash, one time it kept crashing for the same app when switching the output
back and forth multiple times.
After it "fixes" itself for an application simply reloading plasmashell can
reintroduce the issue.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have a secondary output
2. Have an application with sound output open then bring up the audio applet
and go to Applications tab
3. Switch the output for the application to something else and go back to
Devices tab

OBSERVED RESULT
plasmashell crashes when clicking to go back to the Devices tab

EXPECTED RESULT
not crashing
