[frameworks-kded] [Bug 426937] kded5: Segmentation fault when I plug in controller with touchpad using xf86-input-libinput

2021-08-27 Thread Noah
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=426937

For some reason, after I switched to using 'pipewire-pulseaudio' instead of
'pulseaudio' this crash stopped happening when plugging my Dualshock 4
controller into my computer.

The Dualshock 4 controller does have a 3.5mm aux jack on it (4-pole,
input/output) so that could have something to do with it. I don't know for
sure.

That blurred window on the bottom is a hidden latte window that is used on
order to support kwin edges properly. Latte is not applying blur for that
window so I suppose it is something in your system.

[okular] [Bug 128434] Preview tooltip for hyperlinks to other pages

Philip changed:

I recently switched from GNOME to KDE. While I now prefer the latter because of
its ability to be configured to a greater extent, I was quite surprised to find
out that Okular does not have a PDF link preview tooltip/popover like GNOME's
Evince.

As mentioned already by Nicolas, a link preview is very convenient to see an
entry in the bibliography without navigating back and forth or having multiple
windows open. And it also would enable user to have a quick glance at an
equation or figure that appears on a different page.

I find Evince's link preview well done. If implemented in Okular, perhaps the
preview popover's size could be made configurable.

Here is a discussion of the functionality at GNOME's Gitlab, and a screenshot
of the link preview popover in action:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evince/-/issues/662

Works for me with systemd boot, so it's not a universal thing.

Other global shortcuts work though, right? For example does Meta+D show the
desktop?

Hmm, we would need to actually make the items selectable first. I suppose right
now we're in a weird halfway state where the item has a hover effect and a
click effect but nothing happens when you click on it. We should either get rid
of them, or make them do something by making the items selectable.

They key difference is whether or not the app is launched with its own cgroup,
because the Applications page in System Monitor only knows about cgrouped apps.
That's how it knows something is an app and not some random system process.
When you run an app's binary directly (i.e you run `kate` inside a terminal
window), it's up to you to make sure that happens, since you're running the
app by hand.

However when running an app via a global shortcut, this should be happening. I
can reproduce the issue. Moving to the kglobalaccel framework.

I can confirm this happens on macOS moving/dragging krita window from a non
retina to a retina display (Hi-DPi). however this also happens with 4.4.7

The openGL canvas must be created with the krita window on the non HiDPI
display, if it isnt the bug does not happen. But it can be triggered, by
entering full screen on the low dpi display before moving the window to the
HiDPI display

The effect on macOS is that only 1/4 of the canvas is visible.

I remember seeing something similiar after emmet hiDPI patches on openGL. but
then he fixed it, so I suppose the patch did not take into account switching
screens.

WORKAROUND: Enter fullscreen mode to refresh canvas coords.

Ignore layer styles that have already used uuids

Before this commit, if the user downloaded an incorrect asl
file (with non-unique uuids, belonging to repeated layer styles),
Krita would be confused on next run, because it would assume
those other layer styles are new versions of the already known ones,
and try to save new versions of them.
This commit just make Krita ignore all layer styles whose uuids has been
already used in the file which prevents the trouble.

Fix default filename for Log Viewer not saving on Windows

Before this commit, if the user tried to save the log from the
Log Viewer on Windows, and just clicked "OK" without changing the
default filename, there would be an error of not being able to
save the file.
The reason for that was a colon in the filename, which is not
allowed on Windows.
This commit removes the colon by providing a custom format
for the date that is attached to the log filename.

Can confirm, but this seems to be an app bug. If you make a scrollbar appear in
VLC's settings window by resizing it to be short, you'll see that it gets a
background color that matches the view. It seems to be an issue particular to
that one vie win VLC, which means it is most likely a case of the app
overriding the view's default a color in an incorrect way (i.e. in a way that
causes the change to not propagate to the view's scrollbar).

[frameworks-kio] [Bug 398908] MimeTypeFinderJob can use huge amounts of memory reading unnecessary data

2021-08-27 Thread Knut Hildebrandt
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=398908

Just noticed that there is a correlation between the number of tabs and views
open in a dolphin instance and the CPU time and memory it is accumulating.
After only about six hours of total run time the situation looks like this:

1. 9 tabs x 2 views -> 326 MB
2. 8 tabs x 2 views -> 215 MB
3. 6 tabs x 2 views -> 208 MB
4. 4 tabs x 2 views -> 160 MB
5. 2 tabs x 2 views -> 101 MB
6. 2 tabs x 2 views -> 99 MB
7. 1 tabs x 2 views -> 66 MB
8. 1 tabs x 1 views -> 46 MB

Most of the time I was watching movies, answering emails or surfing the
internet and not using any of the dolphins. Some I did not touch at all but
even though they are not used they accumulate memory over time.

[krename] [Bug 441633] New: Rename conflict can result in data loss

2021-08-27 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441633

Bug ID: 441633
Summary: Rename conflict can result in data loss
   Product: krename
   Version: 5.0.1
  Platform: unspecified
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: heiko.bec...@kde.org
  Reporter: ssc+...@mailbox.org
  Target Milestone: ---

I discovered this when I wanted to rename a large number of jpg photos
containing EXIF information. I renamed them to
[exifExif.Photo.DateTimeOriginal]
At lease 2 photos had the same Origin date because one was edited.
The summary here, how to reproduce, is kept simpler.

SUMMARY
If a rename action results in a file name that already exists or is doubled it
will result in file loss or no rename on that file.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. File tab: add more than 1 file to the file list
2. Destination tab: leave unchanged or check "overwrite"
3. File name tab: Suffix, set file name to any word, in file name drop down
select "Custom name"
(this is for demonstration purpose only, in real live it makes no sense of
cause. You could also take some a photo, duplicate it, edit one and set the
advanced rename pattern to [exifExif.Photo.DateTimeOriginal])
4. Click done

OBSERVED RESULT
The 1st file is renamed like the pattern was, the next ones are left unchanged.
If "overwrite" was selected the other files are gone.

EXPECTED RESULT
Show warning message and rename conflicting files automatically with e.g (2),
(3) ...
In any case, never should files get lost. This is bad usability

SUMMARY
While I appreciate the order in the context menu, sometimes I would like to be
able to add specific things directly to the (lets say) first menu"page" of the

For example I would like to have an option to open the terminal directly.

Hello, friends!

The system I use on my personal pc is Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia.
For almost a week now I have been unable to access the KRDC application (KDE
Remote Desktop Client).
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app several times and I still can't open
it. I use it daily to access my work PC, because with other similar
applications like Remmina and Vinagre, the connection always fails.

Below is the error report and as I don't understand much about this, please
help me:

In the error reports of the linux system, the following message appears:

"Program terminated with signal SIGBUS, Bus error."

I believe this is a bug.

I really need krdc to work again, because I depend on it to be able to work.

I'm waiting for your help.

Thank you in advance.

Klipper may freeze the whole plasmashell for tens of seconds trying

[plasma-systemmonitor] [Bug 441628] New: KDE Plasma behaves differently when launching an application.

2021-08-27 Thread hsnnsnc

SUMMARY

In KDE Plasma, when you run an application (eg: Dolphin) with a shortcut
(Meta+E), it is not listed in "System Monitor" - "Overview" - "Application".
But the same application: If you open it in Panel, Menu or ".desktop" file on
Desktop, it will be listed under "System Monitor" - "Overview" - "Application".

This applies to Autostart. So if you set an application to start automatically
when KDE Plasma is started, the application you want to start automatically is
not listed under "System Monitor" - "Overview" - "Application".

I think this situation is not normal.

A little note: This also applies when you start with "Konsole".

OBSERVED RESULT
Applications are not listed in System Monitor if they are launched via shortcut
(eg: Meta+E) or command line.

EXPECTED RESULT
No matter how apps are run, they should be listed in System Monitor.

Summary: Option to exclude minimized windows

  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: effects-overview
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: n...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

I use this option for the existing Present Windows effect because I like to use
it to manage only my non-minimized windows. In my mental model/workflow, when I
minimize a window, I want it to effectively disappear until I want to see it
again by explicitly un-minimizing it. Quitting and restarting it in this case
is not an adequate substitute due to app launch times being non-instant and
transient state rarely if ever being perfectly saved.

So it would be nice if the Overview effect could gain an option to exclude
minimized windows.

I now figured how to run systemd-bootchart.

I compiled the regular version with your changes added to it as patches.
Then I followed the instructions at
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=393352#c0.

So I rebootet, started systemd-bootchart in tty2 and then logged in in tty7.

When looking at the chart, it seems to me that there are leftovers from my
previously used DE Cinnamon.
Strangely enough these services are not displayed in the KDE autostart menu,
which they should in my oppinion.

But most services seem to be normal KDE services.
Still this is probably no native experience.

2021-08-27 Thread Alexander Potashev
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441083

Well, what you're saying in comment #1 is true, however I think it would be
much more usable with the keyboard shortcuts.

>From my perspective, the biggest pain when editing desktop names is, it
requires a lot of clicking, especially on smaller buttons like the "edit" icon,
remember https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fitts%27s_law . So to me, not being a
professional StarCraft 2 player, it seems like the faster and easiest way to
edit a desktop's name would be to
 1. Click on a line (fast because I don't really need to aim with the mouse on
the X-axis)
 2. Press F2
 3. Use keyboard to edit the name
 4. Press Enter.

UPD: I've just discovered I can double-click on a line to start editing. It
might be really hard to discover for new users though.

It would have been the 4.4 release essential build from the .zip package.
I didn't try the git essentials until after the crash.
>From then, neither of them gave a crash.

When I have time, I'll try things to make it crash again.

If it's a separate issue, should the crash be reported in a new bug report?

The same goes for the Bing backend. I actually plan to start with Bing, but the
way via the official API. Maybe it would be something for GSoC-2022 as well.
Bing has a pricing model for non-profit organizations.

[krdc] [Bug 441497] Scaling feature does not scale anything

(In reply to Rafal Lalik from comment #11)
> The presence of slider should be irrelevant for the old behaviour. Just a

> But again, due to bug, you need sldier to change the scaling value. After
> the bug is fixed, you do not need sldier again. Just forget about it then.

It's still a UX issue if you have a button controlling the slider. When the
button is not pressed, the slider is greyed out. If you try to drag it, you
drag the entire window. And if the slider is left in fully zoomed out position,
the scale button does nothing.

Please reconsider and merge the two into one control only. I recommend getting
the zoom control from Okular, so one can select no scaling, 200% scaling, fit
to width, etc. Not a slider at all.

> Scale button is also toolbar only. No UX problem here.

It's in the menu: Session > Scale Remote Screen to Fit Window Size. At a
minimum, you must change this menu text, because "Fit Window Size" is not
correct any more, if the actual scaling factor is controlled by the slider. As
above, I recommend a simple Zoom option.

> > What? The left most position zooms in and the right most leaves no zoom?

Which is why it's a UX problem. It's not very discoverable and behaves the
opposite of most zoom sliders, which is what this will be compared to.

> If the remote is smaller than local, the slider works in an intuitive way.
> If remote is larger, then again - left side is larger that right, which may
> look weird, but remember - left side is 1:1 view, right side is fit to
> window.

I beg to differ. Moving the slider to the left so the content becomes bigger is
counter-intuitive.

The digiKam-7.3.0 AppImage requires a very current Linux version, we already

Linux version, and yes, just make it executable and start it.

Hi Yuri,
thank you very much for your fast reply!

It seems that Helvetica and Times are being substituted by "TeXGyreHeros" and
"TeXGyreTermes", respectively.
I have Liberation fonts installed and installed the MS proprietary ones, but
the bug persists.

Could this be related to flatpak packaging issues in mine machine?
