This is because our installation packages are not currently being notarized
with Apple – which is a somewhat complicated process.

You can still open KMyMoney, you just need to go to System Preferences ->
Security & Privacy and open the app from there.

Once that's done, it will continue open normally, until you update the app.

[plasmashell] [Bug 393929] Plasmashell gobbles all my memory leak

2021-10-21 Thread Nate Graham
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=393929

With my "member of the KDE team" hat on:

I acknowledge this bug but cannot reproduce it, and memory leak bugs in general
are incredibly hard to debug, even in the best case scenario where the reporter
has localized the issue to just a specific widget or triggering behavior. It
requires specialized skill that I unfortunately do not have, which is why I
don't generally do much with bug reports about memory leaks.

Thank you, Nate

I did this a bit differently, by comparing contents of ~/.config/kdeglobals on
affected and not affected PCs. And indeed, removing "Header" sections helped.

But now there's another small annoyance: inactive window's title bar has
slightly different color. Again, happens only on affected PC

I don't think it's that generalized and I also don't think they would not
acknowledge if they knew this is a real issue for sure, why would they? I think
it's hard to replicate, probably it depends on some specific hardware
combination and probably most Plasma developers restart plasmashell very often.

If we can still observe this on 5.23 maybe we should also change the version in
the bug report.

Btw, the workaround I've been using is setting up a script to run every couple
of days or so to restart plasmashell automatically:
kquitapp5 plasmashell || killall plasmashell && kstart5 plasmashell

It's not as traumatic as other options to restart plasmashell that I tried.
Your windows get reordered and that's about it. I can't even tell when it ran
and it keeps plasmashell memory usage in check.

Unfortunately the KDE team is not interested in even acknowledging this issue.
I think they know of this bug and can reproduce it easily they just don't want
to acknowledge it. I managed to get a co-worker to reproduce it on his own
machine with no knowledge of his setup, I simply told him to not power-off his
machine for several days and the memory leak was very apparent: plasmashell
memory consumption ballooned. In short, it's a widespread memory leak but
either very few people use KDE or very few use KDE and leave the PC powered on
for more than a single day. Such a shame.

I discovered a while ago that, in my case, the leak was caused by a tray icon:
qsyncthingtray.

Yet it would be smart that the plasma service has a maximum memory limit.
Systemd allows that, and automatically restarts the service once reached.

For the moment I'm using the following software to accomplish that:

I'd appreciate if this bug takes priority - it might be causing other

effects in other places (such as I did with plasma widgets).

It makes it impossible to keep a desktop linux distro running KDE for several

Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist

 Component: Thumbs-Image

  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 142738

astroimagej and irfanview screenshots

It would be very nice to have a setting that can automatically adjust
"contrast" when viewing Thumbnails and Previews. This would be Very helpful
when browsing through my astronomy .FITS files, and probably "normal" images
also. For astro images the "data" in the image is in a very narrow range of the
image histogram and when browsing, digiKam Thumbnails or Preview there is never
enough contrast. What I'm suggesting is something like the Color
Auto-Correction feature in the Image Editor.

Many astronomy programs have a feature when they display image (thumbnail,
etc.) it bases the low/high (black/white points) on the mean image value +/- a
certain fraction of the standard deviation of the image (follow me?)

For example a 16bit image has a mean value of 16,760 and a standard deviation
of 1434. The program (in this case AstroImagej - see attached file) will set
the low/black point at 16,760 - (0.5 * 1434) = 16,043 and the high/white point
at 16,760 + (2 * 1434) = 19,628. This gives excellent contrast to see the
"data".

Some basic image browsers have a similar feature where you can force the Gamma
to a certain value, but this doesn't always work very well. See the IrfanView
screen grab attached.

Hope this was clear, sorry for the lengthy post.

Many thanks again!

taskmanager: Show highlight before ToolTipInstance starts loading for grouped
tooltips

For grouped tooltips, if there are many windows in a group, it could
take a long time before all ToolTipInstances are loaded.

Show highlight before ToolTipInstance starts loading to make user feel
less unresponsive.

Note: Will not work when a tooltip is already visible (move directly
from a task to a grouped task)

[plasmashell] [Bug 433907] plasmashell works slow when displaying textual list of grouped tasks for big group

2021-10-21 Thread Nate Graham
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=433907

Git commit 818b1b29bc64ccd656a5da2f82fe1aa893d7f8d9 by Nate Graham, on behalf
of Fushan Wen.
Committed on 21/10/2021 at 17:44.
Pushed by ngraham into branch 'master'.

taskmanager: Show highlight before ToolTipInstance starts loading for grouped

Fix compatibility with module names referencing KCM desktop file names

The KCM's desktop file is names "bluetooth", but the library is called
kcm_bluetooth and the metadata file says "X-KDE-PluginInfo-Name=kcm_bluetooth".

To be able to launch the KCM using the "bluetooth" module name we have to check
the desktop
file name.

[kwin] [Bug 444202] Sometimes windows become transparent in Wayland

2021-10-21 Thread Lyubomir
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=444202

Excuse me but i just noticed missed details in my description. The video
recording is from yesterday when it happened and today i'm filling the bug as
it happened again. What i have described in the above comment - swap 100% and
Firefox killing are from today's crash.
I've just checked the earlyoom logs from a little before the yesterday
recording and it again then has killed "Isolated Web Content" and "GeckoMain",
so the pattern of killing GeckoMain and this happening is a likely reason, i
think so. In yesterday's recording you can see nan% in the desktop RAM widget
for swap, so yesterday my swap was disabled when it happened (yes i had it
disabled yesterday). Nevermind without or with swap early-oom killed GeckoMain
and there was this issue.

This is actually a styling bug in LibreOffice. The trough is only supposed to
be visible on hover, upon which the visual similarity is resolved by the bar
turning blue. You can see that it works properly in KDE apps, but it doesn't
seem to be working in LibreOffice; can you file a bug for them at

Unfortunately the backtrace is incomplete and missing debug symbols that we

In addition, Plasma 5.21.5 is no longer a supported version, so there is a
chance this crash has already been fixed. Please upgrade to 5.22 or preferably
5.23 or later.

Finally, it appears that you are using Kali Linux, which is not appropriate for
general use, and you will find a million and a half other little weirdnesses
like this, because running everything as root is explicitly unsupported and
never recommended. I would encourage you to re-install your system with a more
appropriate general purpose Linux distro, such as one of the ones you can see
at https://kde.org/distributions.

Thanks for understanding!

Hello!

I managed to sign the apk with a debug sign and finally installed it on my
device.
The bug is now well fixed.
Thank you!
(But I found something, maybe not a bug, but really confused me for a while.
That is, when I tried to install the new version without uninstalling the beta2
ver, my device just didn't allow the installation.
Then I realized that there is something wrong with the actual version number.
The version number of beta2 is 5050001 while the one of prealpha 5.1.0 ver is
505000, so the system thought that i was trying to overwrite a new version with
a old one, which caused the failure.
I solved this by simply uninstalling the beta2.)

Okay, I found my answer from another bug report. According to Nate Graham:

"Neon removed the AppStream metadata for all GUI apps that come from Ubuntu,
because using that software is unsupported in Neon. The intention is for users
to get their GUI software form Flatpak or Snap. So this is in fact the intended
state of affairs."

Currently, Kate has a plugin for Language Server Protocol which allows it to
work with various tools for different languages, and the use of LSP seems to be
rapidly growing. It would be nice if KDevelop also supported LSP to allow it to
work with other programming languages like Go which is currently missing
outside of the currently deprecated go plugin for KDevelop.

I don't know if current LSP implementations alone would be enough for the full
IDE experience, but it would be a start.

Compare with

fx_taquin 7,7,0,50,5,0,0,0,0,255,0

which shows some filters do support alpha channels.

As it is for upstream to review its filter definitions, I'll mark it as

I've opened a MR that should help address this issue somewhat. The height of
the picker should be smaller, which should help avoid it getting cut off, and
the tumblers (the spinning elements containing the hours and minutes) can now
be scrolled with the mouse wheel. Making the popup extend beyond the parent
dialog is not really feasible without a significant increase in complexity and
headaches.

In terms of the format consistency, I will look into this further

Okay so full screen repaints isn't cutting it. After selecting the option
earlier, I couldn't force the bug by switching to a TTY and back, but after I
rebooted to test KWIN_USE_BUFFER_AGE=0 in my /etc/environment, and switching
back and forth between "Automatic," "Only when cheap," and "Full screen
repaints," I saw the issue on all three - which also means that
KWIN_USE_BUFFER_AGE=0 doesn't help.

kwin_x11 --replace still works to fix it.

I'll attach the journalctl messages from this go-round.

SUMMARY
The "Send to device" dialog doesn't properly set its window title. It inherits
its window title and icon from the application the dialog was triggered from.

The lack of a descriptive window title makes this window hard to be
distinguished from the dialog's source app on the task bar.
