The screenshot depicts the GNOME dialog, not the KDE dialog. You would have to
report it to them.

However in this case there is no point because I know what the issue is: the
text field is not given focus by default (despite *looking* like it has focus),
so when you start typing, it opens a search field instead. It's a very old
known issue in the file dialog.

You need to explicitly click in the text field to give it focus, and then
typing will work.

Cannot reproduce on Wayland when switching from a desktop with a focused window

clarify? Does just the panel freeze, or does everything freeze? Are apps also
frozen? Or just the Plasma panel and other Plasma components? During this

I understand you're frustrated and in need of assistance, but please keep in
mind that this is a volunteer project. See
https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Issue_Reporting#Have_realistic_expectations

Of the three major KWin developers, one is a volunteer, one is busy with
employer-directed projects, and the third is living in a country that is being
invaded by Russia. I'm afraid some patience will be required here.

Yes, I'm afraid this was an intentional change. I'm not 100% sure of the
reasons but I think I remember hearing that it was incompatible with some
performance improvements made to KWin, or something like that. But don't quote
me on that; I'm not a KWin developer, just a bug triager (or at least that's
the hat I'm hearing right now).

If you were using this effect to work around bad window resize performance,
it's probably best if you report that as a bug instead, so the KWin developers
can fix it and then you don't have to resort to manual workarounds. :)

Whether it's consistent or inconsistent depends on your definition of
consistency. :) In general, the definition we use is that similar things should
look similar, and different things should look different. In this case, the
italicized text is used for items that really are different: they're symlinks,
not real items. So I don't think that inconsistency is a valid reason to change
this.

Are there any other reasons why you would want this changed?

The message comes from the PackageKit library, which is passing it on straight
from the underlying package management system--apt, in this case. Apt gives you
that message in a context where it makes sense; you're already in a terminal
window, so asking you to run commands is something you'll be accustomed to do.

Ideally the user would never see this at all, but sadly apt is deficient in a
number of ways and it will happen. The only way to prevent it would be to use a
better package management system, (or more precisely, a better distro).

If it has to happen, it would be good if Discover can handle the error
condition and offer to fix it automatically, using plan human language rather
than technical jargon. Hopefully that's possible based on what we get from
PackageKit.

I've got this bug, running X11. My external displays are connected using a dock
that uses DisplayLink, but the issue only occurs for one of the two displays.

Often, only the wallpaper is missing, and can be fixed by choosing it again in
the settings (the settings window thinks the wallpaper is already selected, and
thus I need to deselect and reselect in order to apply the settings)

But on a few occasions, it resets entirely, although my Latte Dock still
displays on that monitor correctly.

On one occasion, my wallpaper was deleted entirely, so I couldn't choose it in
the settings, although it still displayed as the background for my other
monitors (but was missing from their picker windows too) - when I next
restarted, it was missing on all displays, and I only got it back by
reinstalling the theme that provided the wallpaper.

In all cases, the replacement wallpaper is not the default wallpaper, but a
black screen, leading me to believe that it could be a different bug. Let me
know if I should create a different bug report.

It's at position #3 for me, but same issue, really.

Interestingly enough, in KRunner itself is is much farther down, at position
#10! There does seem to be something a bit off about the weightings for this
case.

I imagine Info Center is first because it has an exact string match in its
description, which is probably reasonable, because "About this system" has a
match, but with the words in a different order. So that probably should have
lower weighting. However the other items seem to get bumped up because they
have a partial substring match in their names. So we should maybe prioritize a
full match in the description over a partial match in the name.

Does it happen with other lockscreen themes too? Lock screen themes come from
Plasma themes, so you would need to test with a different Plasma theme that
includes its own lockscreen theme.

That's because there's a difference between enablement and activation. In the
KCM in System Settings, you're globally turning on or off the whole feature.
The only time you'd want to disable it there is if you don't want to ever use
it at all.

[kscreenlocker] [Bug 451914] New: [Wayland] Graphical glitches upon unlock with Multiple Monitors

2022-03-25 Thread Matt
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=451914

Bug ID: 451914
Summary: [Wayland] Graphical glitches upon unlock with Multiple
Monitors
   Product: kscreenlocker
   Version: 5.24.3
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: greeter
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: mattyhoffm...@gmail.com
CC: bhus...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 147733
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=147733=edit
Demonstration of 3 glitches occuring (artifacting, flickering/black screen,
black screen flash)

SUMMARY
Occasionally I will experience graphical glitches upon unlocking my computer
during the Wayland session if I have multiple monitors connected. I notice it
the most after my computer has resumed from sleep, but have had it happen
before that as well. Have noticed on both Tumbleweed and Arch using AMDGPU
drivers.
The attached video shows 3 examples of the glitches I've experienced, they go
away when I move the mouse over the space where the glitches are occurring.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Connect at least 2 monitors
2. Start a Wayland plasma session
3. Put the machine in suspend mode, then wake it up (might not be required, but
I notice it most after suspend)
4. Unlock the Plasma Wayland session

OBSERVED RESULT
Occasionally there are graphical glitches (flickering, artifacting, etc.) on
one or both of the screens

EXPECTED RESULT
Smooth unlocking process with no glitches

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.92.0
Qt Version: 5.15.3
Kernel Version: 5.16.16-arch1-1 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz
Memory: 19.5 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Running Wayland with both screens at 1920x1080, 144Hz over DisplayPort. I have
NOT observed this on X11 at all.

[kate] [Bug 442739] Python script stopped Kate

2022-03-25 Thread Waqar Ahmed
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=442739

Here are the steps.

You will need git, cmake, make, gcc or clang compiler, extra-cmake-modules
package

sudo pacman -S git gcc g++ cmake make extra-cmake-modules

git clone https://invent.kde.org/utilities/kate
mkdir build && cd build
cmake .. && make -j8
QT_PLUGIN_PATH=.bin/ ./bin/kate -n .

That should be it I think. This will be a local build i.e., won't interfere
with the system one but will reuse the same settings. the last command should
start up kate. The "QT_PLUGIN_PATH=./bin" env var is important as it will load
the newly built plugins in the "bin" subdir and not your system Kate's plugins
which can be confusing.

Thanks for the article. I saw you were looking for something like AlignTab.
That should actually be not that hard to implement via scripts. In fact, all
our indenters are written in scripts. If you want to try, the built-in scripts
can be used as reference:
https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/ktexteditor/-/tree/master/src/script/data

^ That's where you can find the python indenter, sort, uniq and other stuff.

Hi Waqar,

Strangely enough I'm not sleeping yet:) So, yes, I'd love to try this.
What should I do to make build properly ? Would it interfere with
installed version ? (So that I can make settings backup ?)

Sure, you are the most welcome!.
Kate is really great editor and find myself more and more working with it.
I even wrote a little intro on LinkedIn about that :)

https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/kate-python-igor-perkovi%25C4%2587/?trackingId=o%2Bm2tfaT565yyvYNB36pSg%3D%3D

Rest assure, I'll notify you and others if something bugs me along the way.

Thank you for your time and good will!

You don't have to wait for release to try it out. Since you are on manjaro it
should super simple to build kate and test this. Let me know if you want to,
and I will share the steps.

Btw, thanks for reporting this. Wouldn't have been fixed if you didn't report.
Since you said you have to work with a lot of text /larger files, if you notice
other perf issues do report so that we can fix them.

[kwin] [Bug 451913] New: Unplugging and replugging mouse ignores the previously set configuration (X11)

2022-03-25 Thread Matthew
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=451913

Bug ID: 451913
Summary: Unplugging and replugging mouse ignores the previously
set configuration (X11)
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.24.3
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: input
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: casuallym...@tuta.io
  Target Milestone: ---

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Unplug mouse after the pc is on
2. Replug the mouse
3. Notice how mouse sensibility is alot higher than before (or how previously
set settings are back to their defaults)

OBSERVED RESULT
Mouse gets set to max pointer speed, and ignores configs like pressing left and
right for middle click and such.

EXPECTED RESULT
Re-plugging the mouse results in the same config as before unplugging

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: EndeavourOS
KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.92.0
Qt Version: 5.15.3

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
If your mouse is connected before or during the boot, the config will be
applied properly, this bug only happens in X11, wayland worked fine when i
tested it before (i used 5.24.2 when i was on wayland)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open EXR with 32-bit float/channel RGB/Alpha colour space and
sRGB-elle-v2-g10 profile. This is the one i was testing on Krita:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GiXmsfYesfI3wSQN3wVJU_dg-LF0W3WH/view?usp=sharing
2. Add another layer filled with black behind it, purely to make viewing easier
3. Select smart patch tool. Not sure if area matters but i was testing a small
brush size on the little white dot on the image's upper part. Trying to use it
makes the program crash, sometimes on the first try, sometimes after 2-3 uses
of the tool.

OBSERVED RESULT
Program crashed, closing immediately on normal usage (repeated three times) and
freezing forever while running through Gdb.

EXPECTED RESULT
Smart patch to behave in EXR files as it does with "normal" images

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Using Xfce
Qt Version: 5.15.3
Krita version 5.0.2
