[systemsettings] [Bug 429665] Touchpad Tap-to-click should be enabled by default in System Settings
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=429665 Tyson Tan changed: What|Removed |Added CC||tyson...@tysontan.com --- Comment #2 from Tyson Tan --- I do have a question though. If this is supposed to be handled by Libinput and distro, then how is it while on the same system, GNOME has tap-to-click enabled by default, but not Plasma? >From my decades' experience working as an IT support and system administrator, I have never came across a laptop with its factory system not enabling tap-to-click by default. Not only that, nowadays, most new laptops do not have physical buttons visible around the touchpad's surface. Some touchpads can only do gesture taps. For example, on my Lenovo Yoga 730 (which was a 2018 model, mind you), already has no visible buttons. The whole touchpad is a big continuous piece. So if I want to mouse click without tap-to-click, I have to press really hard on the bottom corners -- which 100% of the time, will cause the cursor to move a bit, so I can never click exactly on the place I want to click. Not to mention dragging, it's impossible to drag accurately with so much force constantly needed to press down the dang thing. Just imagine the usability issue it will cause in productivity apps with a lot of tiny options. Most users, at least in my organization and my relatives, do not know, or simply just forgot about the touchpad on their laptops can be pressed down -- myself included until I encountered this issue yesterday. Without tap-to-click, I found it impossible to use a modern laptop with no individual touchpad buttons. Maybe you are using some kind of Thinkpad, but Thinkpad is always an exception, not the standard when it comes to touchpads. In my opinion, this is a major usability issue and certainly should be a counted as a 15 minutes bug -- heck, it's a 5 seconds bug really! I sincerely implore you to review, re-investigate, and reconsider this issue. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

As I flip from one photo to the next, it doesn't take long before the UI locks up for about 35 seconds before finally responding again. Both strace and gdb indicate that the hang is in a call to getxattr("path.jpg", "user.baloo.rating", NULL, 0) Curiously, getxattr() doesn't noticeably hang in a test program that calls it in a loop with the same arguments, files, and mount point. I wonder what Baloo or Gwenview might be doing to trigger the 35 second delay. [kde] [Bug 453486] The mouse scroll wheel randomly stops working
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453486 --- Comment #2 from Scott --- In the last 3 days the issue has not reoccurred. Two programs it did effect were Firefox and Kate, both can require large amounts of scrolling. It appears that this issue may have resolved itself as a result of the work I did to get grub to display on boot. Ubuntu 22.04 is very fragile when it comes to the display setup. This also fixed up an issue where my USB printer was identified by the OS but subsequently could not be found by any other app. Fixing the display problems negated any need for a work around in my dual boot system to display the grub menu options or the UEFI boot screen. I realise this is not a KDE issue, and to a large extent beyond their control, but for Kubuntu to work properly with a (my) Nvidia GPU requires 2 monitors when using modern hardware is a problem. Kubuntu will not boot correctly unless a monitor with a DVI input is connected, requiring in my case a 2 monitor setup. The real issue is the GPU output port rather tshag2020han the monitor input. I understand the root cause is because the Nvidia GPU does not initialise the Display port until after grub processing is finished. It appears that if the grub menu is not displayed on boot then these other hardware issue pop up, eg printer and mouse which is somehow connected to X11. There is a whole bunch of other issues connected as well, for example, if the display setup is not absolutely correctly my 2K monitor is setup with a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz (it should operate at 144Hz) causing screen flicker and the refresh rate cannot be changed (varies according to the physical connection to the monitor). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Product: kded-appmenu Version: 5.24.4 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: major Priority: NOR Component: export Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: gona...@ulm-dsl.de Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY If you start a qt-app under kde (running wayland), the apps (konsole, dolphin etc.) cant access global menu (when using sddm / kwin before, gdm3 / mutter is slightly diffent). This is independent of the graphics platform used. The only workaround is to trick the app by using GDK_BACKEND="x11" and / or QT_QPA_PLATFORM="xcb" (= nonisolated) 1. What are the needed dependencies currently to get 'global menu' working under wayland with qt-apps (without tricking them back into x11)? 2. What are dependencies when using 'global menu' with wayland while also using 'firejail'? under gdm3 / mutter this sems to be not a problem (because the mutter-wayland-flavor seems to be not so much 'wayland'-only currently even if you set variables strict), under sddm / kwin this produces some in part severe problems) currently installed: appmenu-registrar, libdbusmenu-qt5-2 (as well as the gtk-flavour (lib-)appmenu-gtk-x-module, dbusmenu / gir, libayatana-appindicator-stuff) 3. If this is a bug and currently worked on: what is the roadmap. The current situation is terrible it brakes systems or produces follow-up-problems when workarounds are used. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. setup sddm, kde, wayland-compatible graphics 2. setup global menu 3. start a qt-app (with QT_QPA_PLATFORM="wayland", GDK_BACKEND="wayland") OBSERVED RESULT no global menu entries show up (tested with intel, amd, nvidia) EXPECTED RESULT transfer of global menu entries SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: debian 11 (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.90.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453597 Bug ID: 453597 Summary: Monitor layout misidentified after screen energy-saving mode Product: kwin Version: 5.24.5 Platform: Archlinux Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: minor Priority: NOR Component: wayland-generic Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: nathanielma...@yahoo.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY Since updating to Kwin 5.24.5, my monitor setup may be misidentified after waking the screen up from energy-saving mode. This causes a whole bunch of issues and requires restarting the session to make it work properly again. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open a plasma desktop Wayland session with a multi-monitor setup 2. Wait for screens to automatically enter energy saving mode 3. Wake up screen from energy saving mode OBSERVED RESULT Second monitor may be misidentified (In my case, this is either as "California Institute of Technology" or "unknown HDMI-A-1-unknown"). There are several other effects that may appear alongside this, most notably: 1. The panel will be present on the second monitor as if is was primary monitor, despite kscreen still reporting the main monitor being the primary 2. The primary monitor will turn black. Apps can still be dragged onto this monitor, but the desktop appears to no longer be present 3. The second monitor will scale itself up to the scaling used by the primary monitor (causing everything to appear excessively large) 4. The second monitor will lower it's frame rate from 144Hz to 60Hz Any attempts to return the settings to normal while the secondary monitor is misidentified has no effect EXPECTED RESULT Screen layout after waking should be identical to the screen layout before entering energy saving SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux: 5.17.5-zen KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.5-1 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.93.0-4 Qt Version: 5.15.3 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I have a very niche monitor setup. The primary monitor is my laptop monitor, which is 2880x1800@90Hz. Due to the high resolution, it is scaled at 150%. The second monitor is 1920x1080@144Hz, and requires no scaling. The second monitor is positioned diagonally above and to the left of the primary monitor. The problem persist, regardless if I replicate the output of one "monitor" to the other or not. I have 2 panels (bottom and right side). The right side panel is set to autohide; and I use click to focus windows activation policy. The panel hides only after I hover the mouse over it. Whenever I change focus to some window, the panel appears (pops left) and I have to hover over it again, for it to hide. Of course, there is a task manager on the right panel, but I do not want the panel to appear, just to show me that it changed the selected app in the task manager! I have found a way to prevent the problem, but that is not what I want. If I set, in Window Behavior settings, the option "Special windows: Hide helper windows for inactive applications" then the problem stops and the panel does not pop up every time I change the window focus. Btw, I am not sure that the option's title refers to "helper windows" in english, or "auxiliary windows" or something else... What I want is for my e-mail and torrent clients, or any other app that may activate a message window, the window to appear and not wait till I bring up the main application window. My setup here is a 4K DP monitor and a HDMI AV-Receiver which does only FHD and which I only enable when I switch from S/PDIF to HDMI audio to make use of 5.1… The HDMI connection is disabled in my daily use.
