Perhaps not many as X11 HiDPI users tend to enable Qt scaling.

Just tested this update. It does not work as expected. "Highlight" should only
occur when the "Preview" is hovered, not when the application icon is hovered.
When the application icon is hovered, there should only be a "Preview" (and
"Highlight" only when the mouse pointer hovers the "Preview").

[Smb4k] [Bug 455772] smb4k 3.1.2 imports old .kde4/share/apps/smb4k/bookmarks.xml and dislikes format

2022-06-21 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455772

I did not use smb4k in a very long time, but it starts up with KDE which i use
on a daily basis on that machine. Not sure if the bookmarks have been silently
missing and only the "popup" is a new thing.

That popup is in fact confusing and i wonder why the bookmarks file was not
just converted at some point when the old and new format where supported in a
version of the application. That is kind of one of two problems.

The second is the pointless import of an old version that simply can not work.

[Smb4k] [Bug 455772] New: smb4k 3.1.2 imports old .kde4/share/apps/smb4k/bookmarks.xml and dislikes format

2022-06-21 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455772

Bug ID: 455772
   Summary: smb4k 3.1.2 imports old
.kde4/share/apps/smb4k/bookmarks.xml and dislikes
format
   Product: Smb4k
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: alexander.reinho...@kdemail.net
  Reporter: henn...@hennsch.de
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

Updated smb4k from 3.1.1 to 3.1.2 and received a desktop notification that it
does not like its bookmark file anymore. I went ahead and moved it out so i
could simply recreate my two entries by creating them again via the
application. But starting the application again it had the same problem, turns
out it seems to revive a very old and meanwhile incompatible copy still hanging
around in my homedir.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. killall smb4k; rm .local/share/smb4k/bookmarks.xml; rm
.kde4/share/apps/smb4k/bookmarks.xml
2. create .kde4/share/apps/smb4k/bookmarks.xml with contents

WORKGROUP
//192.168.1.42/media

Disk

3. smb4k

OBSERVED RESULT

popup disliking that bookmark file, which the app imported itself, plus in fact
that popup for the config i had and which was probably working before

EXPECTED RESULT

warnings about the outdated config in the "new" place can and should probably
stay, when old file is revived it should probably silently skip bookmarks it
does not like, or the whole list in case its a "global" thing, or if those old
files can not be used for sure ... the revive code should not be exectuted at
all

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: 5.24.5

The top image is the mask reduced by .5px. The plasma panel mask decreases a
small amount. Latte decreases by a lot.

For the record, this bug isn't tied to 5.25, I just never got around to
documenting and reporting it. The bug has been around for a while.

You aren't wrong. Most of the tools for developing themes for KDE are from
another century. The only thing I've tried to use it for was exporting desktop
layouts, which worked questionably well. The last issue was it duplicating
everything every time you tried to export it so everything had 2 entries in the
.js.

Sorry about that, was poorly worded. I think this is just whatever broke Latte
in 5.25. I believe it is applying the layout, you just have to start Latte
manually. Previously, I believe Latte was launched when you applied a Global

The commit doesn't necessarily mean that the file on the store (i.e. Discover)
was updated, nor does it mean that the Aurorae theme was updated.

> I do have blurry background in Konsole and can't see the bug.
> I tested various third party aurorae themes and corner bug wasn't visible.

How many themes were blurred on KDE 5.25?

> Ah wait... This is really strange. I just saw corner bug on Konsole too,
> then I minimized all windows, un-minimized them and now no corner bug on any
> of the Konsole windows... Note, that I check on light, plain background,
> where usually this bug was visible the most.

A plain background isn't always the best way to check. The best way to check is
between 2 very different colors/values. e.g. the built-in "Grey" wallpaper.
Move the window corner around in that spot and you should be able to see it.

> Anyway, since this sometimes appears on Konsole and Firefox, other apps may
> be afflicted too. Hmm... This is too weird. However, the bug is not so
> striking as it was before and oftentimes it's not visible.

Do you use shaders (e.g. Lightly Shaders) or perhaps force blur?

> Then maybe let's establish some base themes where we test if the bug is
> still there or not. Which aurorae theme was update and should not have
> corner bug and still seem to have it?

I don't think many theme developers heard the news. Willow should be updated:
https://www.pling.com/p/1561335/ I do not see corners on it for other windows,
but I do see corners on Konsole when I enable blurring in it.

To show the bug, select "Willow Dark Blur" as your window decoration. Set your
wallpaper to "Grey". Set your color scheme to something like, light Breeze
Light. In the top right area of the wallpaper, there are many dark slivers
surrounded by white. Move your top-right window corner onto one of the dark
slivers. You should not see it for other windows. Konsole, with Blur Background
enabled should show a white corner. Increasing blur to the maximum strength
will also help show the bug.

[kwin] [Bug 455767] New: Transition into and out of new Window Management desktop effects is jagged

2022-06-21 Thread hugh
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455767

Bug ID: 455767
Summary: Transition into and out of new Window Management
desktop effects is jagged
   Product: kwin
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Keywords: regression
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: effects-window-management
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: hugh.ga...@tutamail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

The Desktop Grid and Present Windows desktop effects are kwin tools I use a
lot. After years of use they are ingrained into my workflow.

The transition into and out of these Window Management desktop effects prior to
5.25 was smooth as butter. It looked like some sort of zoom animation was used
to transition to and from the active desktop to each specfic desktop effect.
Both the speed and smoothness of this transition animation was great. It was
easy on the eye.

With the redevelopment of these Window Management desktop effects in 5.25 the
transitions into and out of them are now rough, jagged and anything but smooth.
Overview desktop effect has this issue also.

They are jagged and rough enough to give me a headache after about 45 minutes
of use. Desktop grid seems to be the worst of the group. It is more jagged
than the others.

I use between 4 and 8 virtual desktops usually and have anywhere from 4-12
applications open at any one time, on average.

A restored 5.24.5 system I tested with 2-8 virtual desktops and 16 open
applications was smooth transitioning in and out.

My current 5.25.1 system I tested with 2-4 virtual desktops and 4 open
applications was very jagged transitioning in and out. Reducing the number of
deskops and applications didn't improve smoothness.

Hopefully the cause of this regression can be found and a fix developed.
Headaches kinda suck.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

>From an active desktop open a Window Management desktop effect (desktop grid,
present window or overview).

OBSERVED RESULT

Transition animation into the desktop effect is jagged, rough, jerky and not
smooth. Particularly the desktop grid.

EXPECTED RESULT

Transition animation into the desktop effect should be smooth, like it was in
5.24.5.

I noticed that in the log. All I was using was the Holidays plugin, which I
believe is official. I have it set to us_en-us holidays only.

(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #4)

> window and paste the output? I suspect what might be going on is that the
> indexer itself does in fact get paused, but its running indexing processes
> don't.

I was able to reproduce the exact conditions. Here's a timeline.

1. Start `balooctl monitor` and `htop`.
2. Run `balooctl status`. See Output 1 below.
3. Start compiling a large piece of software that will create many new files in
a directory that is indexed by Baloo. For this test, I was compiling the Arch
Linux package `libreoffice-fresh`.
4. Observe that `baloo_file` becomes active in htop. In the monitor, note that
the status changes to "Indexing new files" or "Indexing modified files". High
CPU use by baloo is observed despite near-100% CPU demand from the compiler.
5. Open System Settings. Baloo settings page is oddly slow to load, but when it
loads it says "Idle". I have noticed that running `balooctl status` will *hang*
for a long time if the indexer is running. Presumably the indexer has briefly
caught up with the compiler?
6. Click "Pause Indexer". Baloo seems indecisive, but after 20 seconds or so
"Suspended" appears in the monitor window.
7. Observe that `baloo_file` continues to run in `htop`, using a large amount
of CPU.
8. Run `balooctl status`. See Output 2 below.
9. Start writing this bug report. As I type this, `baloo_file` has continued to
run. It has grown to over 1.7 GB of resident memory use, and continues to eat a
lot of CPU. For good measure, I am running `balooctl status` again now. It
takes over 50 seconds to complete. The monitor window continues to show
"Suspended" as its last status message. See Output 3 below.

Something that sticks out to me about this last state is that the number of
indexed files is actually *dropping* over time, and despite this, the index
size has ballooned (pun not intended) to an enormous size given the relatively
moderate number of files indexed. I know for sure that this dramatic increase
was the result of this testing, because I was recently forced to delete the
Baloo data directory after seeing this issue.

Nothing I have been able to do (including deleting the build directory entirely
and trying to force baloo to recheck it) has been able to reduce this increased
disk space usage. Every time it happens I am forced to delete Baloo's index and
start over.

I'm including the result of `balooctl indexSize` below, as Output 4. I'm in the
process of trying to write a bug report to cover disk usage problems with
Baloo, as there isn't one at present I don't think. (There's one for i/o
utilization, cpu use, memory consumption, etc.) If there is anything I can
provide to make that bug report better, please let me know. I'd like to avoid
side-tracking this bug with the disk usage problem as it isn't the central
issue here.

Content indexing has been completely disabled throughout this entire process.

Output 1 (status before compiling begins):

Baloo File Indexer is running
Indexer state: Idle
Total files indexed: 270,102
Files waiting for content indexing: 0
Files failed to index: 0
Current size of index is 134.10 MiB

2022-06-21 Thread Maximilian Böhm

Bug ID: 455763
Summary: Plasma 5.25: Present Windows uses too low frame rates
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.25.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: effects-present-windows
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: m...@elbmurf.de
  Target Milestone: ---

I have a 144 Hz monitor and on a Plasma 5.25 session, the new Present Windows
effect does look like it uses only like 60 fps. This is a bug.

There is of course the FPS effect (which is correctly showing 144/143 Hz) but I
don't know about its meaning for other effects.

This effect feels wrong at this monitor Hz rate, never had this visual
observation with the old implementation, which was rendered super smooth.
AMDGPU driver in use with a Radeon 5700 XT.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Get a 144 Hz monitor
2. Compare the old Present Windows with the new
3. Cry

EXPECTED RESULT
It should feel smoother. There is clearly something wrong with its frame rate.
It isn’t just the faster speed (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455521),
but also the frame rate feels limited.

Yup, they're all affected. Basically anything that incorporates Present Windows
seems to be affected the same way, and the problems only started as of 5.25.0.
In fact, after noticing that the overview effect performed similarly in 5.24.5,
I assumed it'd somehow gotten enabled in place of the present windows effect,
so I think the new backend code is the likely culprit here.

Hi Kiwivskiwi,

We're aware that audio + animation in krita is currently glitchy and have
multiple reports. We're currently working on a new design, but that won't be
coming until 5.2 at the earliest. We will keep you updated when there's a
public testable version.

However, since this is similar to our other existing, I am reporting this as a
duplicate.

Thanks for taking the time to use and file bug reports for Krita,

@Nate Ever since the introduction of all those effects you mentioned (that are
based on one codebase as i understand) they are very choppy while invoking.( on
60hz monitor they dip to 30fps -at least this what frame counte effect shows)
but it "feels" like its just few frames from invoking to the end of animation.
I have a older pc with nvidia graphics and i cant run wayland so im running
X11( your recent changes made sure of it) but the previous implementation of
the effects worked smoothly without any issues. I can provide more info if

I'm aware of this, but unsure if there's really a way around this for us. I
suppose this would probably be a good question for QT upstream, since my
thought would be that holding down x seconds on an element and then dragging

Hey Alvin,

I'm not even sure why processEvents is necessary in that particular callback.
I'll have to check out if removing that call has any regressions and report
back my findings. If we really need to "process" events, then I think we simply
want to call a non-blocking version...

[kwin] [Bug 455760] New: Reimplemented Flip 3D window switcher in 5.24+: The window on top should be closer and disappear in front of you

Bug ID: 455760
Summary: Reimplemented Flip 3D window switcher in 5.24+: The
window on top should be closer and disappear in front
of you
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.25.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: effects-various
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: m...@elbmurf.de
  Target Milestone: ---

This made much of the appeal of the old implementation till Plasma 5.22: The
last window, the nearest to you
1) was bigger, so you could better see its content
2) was dashing at your direction and when you tabbed further, disappearing just
in front of you ('bigger than real'), which gave it a playful character.
For comparison, see a video of the old Kwin implementation of this effect,
watch it in slo-mo: https://youtu.be/3U9mXwYj0zU?t=108

The reimplementation since 5.24 has a distanced perspective. The top window is
smaller, never gets bigger than it would be on the desktop at the out
transition and in general, it looks like it is filmed with a wide angle
objective lens. It’s not the same fun the old effect has had.
I recommend to change the perspective to a bit more middle-window view. »Move
the camera a bit more to the right and come two steps closer.«
This reimplementation is compensating lacking transparency with this wider
viewing angle. Reimplementing transparency would fix that.

Sorry, I may have stated the question not clear enough.
Up to Plasma 5.24 the Window List applet used to have a single function:
provide a way of choosing the window to switch to in two clicks via the popup.
Since 5.25 it also has the second function of showing the user which
application is active at the moment by replacing a small "open window list"
button with a bigger and variable-size "current application" button.
I don't have any problems with the window list pop-up itself showing both
window icons and full-length window titles - as you say, it would be strange to
have a list of windows that would not actually list windows. What I'm asking
for is an option to disable the second function and go back to a "open window
list" button instead of a "current application" one.
For me the "current application" button provides no useful information because
(a) the application that's currently active is part of my working context
that's hard to lose track of, (b) this information isn't needed often as one
usually cares about the window they're switching to, not the one they're
switching from, and (c) it's easy to find the active window frame or look at
the Task Manager applet even if lost. Furthermore, as the button displays the
application name and not the window name it's already useless for
distinguishing between windows of the same application, and the icon would be
enough for distinguishing between different applications in most cases.

Could you please clarify if I'm misunderstanding something or not understanding
the intended use cases? It really looks to me like replacing the "open window
list" panel button with the "current application" panel button trades panel
space and layout consistency (due to variable width) for extra information
that's in many cases both obvious from other indicators (decorations, task
manager applet, etc) and useless / unactionable (do you often happen to ask
yourself "what application does the focused window belong to"?).

[kwin] [Bug 455759] New: Present Windows effect has display scaling issues when displays have different display scales in Wayland

2022-06-21 Thread Mark S
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455759

Bug ID: 455759
Summary: Present Windows effect has display scaling issues when
displays have different display scales in Wayland
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.25.1
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: effects-present-windows
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: wolfendea...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

When using multiple displays with different, fractional display scales in
Wayland, the display(s) with the lower scale factor have scaling artifacts as
if it were using the higher fractional scaling.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Use a Wayland session
2. Use multiple displays
3. Set the display scaling on one display to 100% and another to 125%
4. Activate the Present Windows effect (Ctrl+F9 or Ctrl+F10)

OBSERVED RESULT

The scaling on the display with the 100% scaling looks really bad (as if it
were at 125% scaling without aliasing)

EXPECTED RESULT

The scaling on each display is correct

[kwin] [Bug 455758] New: Activated windows are not raised to front in Wayland session

2022-06-21 Thread Jonathan S
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455758

Bug ID: 455758
Summary: Activated windows are not raised to front in Wayland
session
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.25.0
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: wayland-generic
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: jonat...@sparky.nz
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
I have an issue where windows aren't raised to the foreground when they become
active by an action in another window. For example, clicking a link in an
email opens the link in Firefox, but the Firefox window remains in the
background. Another example is if I have the Plasma System Settings application
open in the background then go into the Plasma Application Launcher and click
on an item like "Display Configuration', it opens that configuration item in
the System Settings window but it stays in the background behind any other open
windows. I've tried all options of the "Focus stealing prevention" as suggested
in the forum posts I've found online about this kind of issue, but nothing
seems to change.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Log in to a Plasma Wayland desktop session from SDDM
2. Open the System Settings application
3. Open another application (e.g. Konsole) and leave in front of System
Settings window
4. From the Application Launcher widget, select a System settings configuration
section (eg. "Colors")
5. The System Settings application changes view to that configuration section
(eg. the "Colors" settings screen), but the System Settings window stays in the
background behind the Konsole window.

OBSERVED RESULT
The activated window isn't raised to the front or given focus. It stays behind
the other windows that are open in front of it.

EXPECTED RESULT
The activated window is raised to the front and given focus.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows: n/a
macOS: n/a
Linux/KDE Plasma: KDE Neon
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.95.0
Qt Version: 5.15.4

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Another example scenario is when a hyperlink is clicked in an email, the URL
opens in Firefox but the window stays behind all the other windows and not
brought to front/focus.

I have confirmed that this behaviour is also observed in Kubuntu 22.04 (Plasma
5.24.4), Debian 11 (Plasma 5.20.5) & Fedora 36 (I think Plasma 5.24.4).

The "EXPECTED RESULT" above is how it works for me on an X11 session.

Hi,
The subwindows are not dependent of the windows manager or compositor.
It's a system designed by the Qt framework and, unfortunately, theming it with
style introduces new bugs.

This topic was discussed on Krita-Artist forum four days ago here:
https://krita-artists.org/t/extra-doc-title-bar-when-multiple-documents-are-opened-in-windowed-mode-is-this-ui-behavior-changeable/42822?u=deevad

I'm closing this report as a 'Resolved' to close it, and 'Intentional' because
it is wanted to not try to theme the subwindows because that would create other
bugs.
Sorry and thank you for the bug report.

[Breeze] [Bug 455757] New: Please allow WallpaperFader to be disabled for Breeze theme in both SDDM and Lockscreen.

2022-06-21 Thread hugh
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455757

Bug ID: 455757
Summary: Please allow WallpaperFader to be disabled for Breeze
theme in both SDDM and Lockscreen.
   Product: Breeze
   Version: 5.25.1
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: hugh.ga...@tutamail.com
CC: uhh...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

Currently the breeze theme provides no way to disable the WallpaperFader (ie
the blurry fog) when entering passwords in both the SDDM theme and on the
LockScreen.

Not everyone wants this blurry fog and an option to disable it seems
reasonable, especially considering how easy it is to do.

All that is needed is for WallpaperFader.visible to be set to false in two
locations, one in the SDDM breeze theme and the breeze theme lockscreen.

SDDM:
/usr/share/sddm/themes/breeze/Main.qml ... line 110

When enabled:

WallpaperFader {
visible: config.type === "image"

When disabled:
WallpaperFader {
//visible: config.type === "image"
visible: false

Breeze Lockscreen:
/usr/share/plasma/look-and-feel/org.kde.breeze.desktop/contents/lockscreen/LockScreenUi.qml
... line 219

When enabled:

WallpaperFader {
visible: true

When disabled:

WallpaperFader {
visible: false

A Breeze theme UI change and Breeze SDDM theme UI change would also be required
to toggle and persist this setting.

Presumably a logout and login after setting is changed may be required to
effect the new setting.

We're mixing two bugs.

Exec=QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland qbittorrent.
is not a valid command per xdg spec. I'm surprised it works in the menu, it
shouldn't.

The command should be set to:
/bin/sh -c "QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland qbittorrent"

Please confirm that works.

I don't know why Meven's is failing. Can I have output of `journalctl --user -b
--no-pager` after a clean login.

[kde] [Bug 455756] New: Cannot upload files that contain Greek letters in their file name from any chromium based browser

2022-06-21 Thread Spyros Angelis
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455756

Bug ID: 455756
Summary: Cannot upload files that contain Greek letters in
their file name from any chromium based browser
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: spyro...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Cannot upload files from any chromium based browser (chrome, brave, etc) that
contain Greek letters. I have tried Gmail, google drive, OneDrive and the web
version of Outlook and all uploads are failing. It does not matter if I drag
and drop the files or use the file upload dialog. I can upload the same files
with Firefox as I can also upload the same files from chromium based browsers
from my Windows and GNOME machines.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Visit from a chromium based browser on a service that allows file upload
(i.e. Google Drive)
2. Select to upload a file that contains Greek letters, either by drag and drop
or by the file upload dialog
3. Try to upload the file

OBSERVED RESULT
The file fails to be uploaded with the following errors depending on the
service:
Gmail: The file is 0 bytes, so it will not be attached.
Google Drive: File unreadable.
OneDrive: File name not provided in url.
Outlook: The following files weren't attached because there're empty: .

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Fedora 36 KDE Spin
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.93.0
Qt Version: 5.13.5

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Also in the same context, when I download a file from chromium based browsers
which have Greek letters in its file name, the file is always being saved with
the name "download" without any extension. Again Firefox downloads the file
with the correct name and extension and chromium browsers on Windows and GNOME
download the files with the correct name and extension as well.

[dolphin] [Bug 453700] dolphin in detailed view open files and folders also if I click elsewhere on the line not only on the filename

2022-06-21 Thread Philipp Maierhöfer
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453700

As is described there, this is a matter of highlighting.

In Ark (I'm on 22.04.2), the entire line is clickable (and highlighted), but
only the name is draggable, which is inconsistent in the described sense of
space belonging to a specific object.

Following my suggestion, only the Name column should be clickable & draggable.
And to indicate that, only that column should be highlighted (rule: highlight
the area that "belongs" to the item). Downside: we loose the visual
accentuation of the rest of the row. Thanks to the alternating background
colours in Dolphin's details view I'd find this acceptable (there is also the
suggestion of different highlighting styles/colours).

Of course in a perfect world all file listings in KDE applications would behave
in the same way.
