[Smb4k] [Bug 455772] smb4k 3.1.2 imports old .kde4/share/apps/smb4k/bookmarks.xml and dislikes format
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455772 --- Comment #1 from henn...@hennsch.de --- I did not use smb4k in a very long time, but it starts up with KDE which i use on a daily basis on that machine. Not sure if the bookmarks have been silently missing and only the "popup" is a new thing. That popup is in fact confusing and i wonder why the bookmarks file was not just converted at some point when the old and new format where supported in a version of the application. That is kind of one of two problems. The second is the pointless import of an old version that simply can not work. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[Smb4k] [Bug 455772] New: smb4k 3.1.2 imports old .kde4/share/apps/smb4k/bookmarks.xml and dislikes format

I went ahead and moved it out so i could simply recreate my two entries by creating them again via the application. But starting the application again it had the same problem, turns out it seems to revive a very old and meanwhile incompatible copy still hanging around in my homedir. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. killall smb4k; rm .local/share/smb4k/bookmarks.xml; rm .kde4/share/apps/smb4k/bookmarks.xml 2. create .kde4/share/apps/smb4k/bookmarks.xml with contents WORKGROUP //192.168.1.42/media Disk 3. smb4k OBSERVED RESULT popup disliking that bookmark file, which the app imported itself, plus in fact that popup for the config i had and which was probably working before EXPECTED RESULT warnings about the outdated config in the "new" place can and should probably stay, when old file is revived it should probably silently skip bookmarks it does not like, or the whole list in case its a "global" thing, or if those old files can not be used for sure ... the revive code should not be exectuted at all SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: 5.24.5 (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.92.0 Qt Version: 5.15.4 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

How many themes were blurred on KDE 5.25? > Ah wait... This is really strange. I just saw corner bug on Konsole too, > then I minimized all windows, un-minimized them and now no corner bug on any > of the Konsole windows... Note, that I check on light, plain background, > where usually this bug was visible the most. A plain background isn't always the best way to check. The best way to check is between 2 very different colors/values. e.g. the built-in "Grey" wallpaper. Move the window corner around in that spot and you should be able to see it. > Anyway, since this sometimes appears on Konsole and Firefox, other apps may > be afflicted too. Hmm... This is too weird. However, the bug is not so > striking as it was before and oftentimes it's not visible. Do you use shaders (e.g. Lightly Shaders) or perhaps force blur? > Then maybe let's establish some base themes where we test if the bug is > still there or not. Which aurorae theme was update and should not have > corner bug and still seem to have it? I don't think many theme developers heard the news. Willow should be updated: https://www.pling.com/p/1561335/ I do not see corners on it for other windows, but I do see corners on Konsole when I enable blurring in it. To show the bug, select "Willow Dark Blur" as your window decoration. Set your wallpaper to "Grey". Set your color scheme to something like, light Breeze Light. In the top right area of the wallpaper, there are many dark slivers surrounded by white. Move your top-right window corner onto one of the dark slivers. You should not see it for other windows. Konsole, with Blur Background enabled should show a white corner. Increasing blur to the maximum strength will also help show the bug. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kwin] [Bug 455767] New: Transition into and out of new Window Management desktop effects is jagged
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455767 Bug ID: 455767 Summary: Transition into and out of new Window Management desktop effects is jagged Product: kwin Version: unspecified Platform: Archlinux Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Keywords: regression Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: effects-window-management Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: hugh.ga...@tutamail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY The Desktop Grid and Present Windows desktop effects are kwin tools I use a lot. After years of use they are ingrained into my workflow. The transition into and out of these Window Management desktop effects prior to 5.25 was smooth as butter. It looked like some sort of zoom animation was used to transition to and from the active desktop to each specfic desktop effect. Both the speed and smoothness of this transition animation was great. It was easy on the eye. With the redevelopment of these Window Management desktop effects in 5.25 the transitions into and out of them are now rough, jagged and anything but smooth. Overview desktop effect has this issue also. They are jagged and rough enough to give me a headache after about 45 minutes of use. Desktop grid seems to be the worst of the group. It is more jagged than the others. I use between 4 and 8 virtual desktops usually and have anywhere from 4-12 applications open at any one time, on average. A restored 5.24.5 system I tested with 2-8 virtual desktops and 16 open applications was smooth transitioning in and out. My current 5.25.1 system I tested with 2-4 virtual desktops and 4 open applications was very jagged transitioning in and out. Reducing the number of deskops and applications didn't improve smoothness. Hopefully the cause of this regression can be found and a fix developed. Headaches kinda suck. STEPS TO REPRODUCE >From an active desktop open a Window Management desktop effect (desktop grid, present window or overview). OBSERVED RESULT Transition animation into the desktop effect is jagged, rough, jerky and not smooth. Particularly the desktop grid. EXPECTED RESULT Transition animation into the desktop effect should be smooth, like it was in 5.24.5. [systemsettings] [Bug 443693] Clicking pause indexer should pause the Baloo indexer, but it doesn't
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443693 Adam Fontenot changed: What|Removed |Added Status|NEEDSINFO |REOPENED Resolution|WAITINGFORINFO |--- --- Comment #5 from Adam Fontenot --- (In reply to Nate Graham from comment #4) > When you click "Pause Indexer", can you run `balooctl status` in a terminal > window and paste the output? I suspect what might be going on is that the > indexer itself does in fact get paused, but its running indexing processes > don't. I was able to reproduce the exact conditions. Here's a timeline. 1. Start `balooctl monitor` and `htop`. 2. Run `balooctl status`. See Output 1 below. 3. Start compiling a large piece of software that will create many new files in a directory that is indexed by Baloo. For this test, I was compiling the Arch Linux package `libreoffice-fresh`. 4. Observe that `baloo_file` becomes active in htop. In the monitor, note that the status changes to "Indexing new files" or "Indexing modified files". High CPU use by baloo is observed despite near-100% CPU demand from the compiler. 5. Open System Settings. Baloo settings page is oddly slow to load, but when it loads it says "Idle". I have noticed that running `balooctl status` will *hang* for a long time if the indexer is running. Presumably the indexer has briefly caught up with the compiler? 6. Click "Pause Indexer". Baloo seems indecisive, but after 20 seconds or so "Suspended" appears in the monitor window. 7. Observe that `baloo_file` continues to run in `htop`, using a large amount of CPU. 8. Run `balooctl status`. See Output 2 below. 9. Start writing this bug report. As I type this, `baloo_file` has continued to run. It has grown to over 1.7 GB of resident memory use, and continues to eat a lot of CPU. For good measure, I am running `balooctl status` again now. It takes over 50 seconds to complete. The monitor window continues to show "Suspended" as its last status message. See Output 3 below. Something that sticks out to me about this last state is that the number of indexed files is actually *dropping* over time, and despite this, the index size has ballooned (pun not intended) to an enormous size given the relatively moderate number of files indexed. I know for sure that this dramatic increase was the result of this testing, because I was recently forced to delete the Baloo data directory after seeing this issue. Nothing I have been able to do (including deleting the build directory entirely and trying to force baloo to recheck it) has been able to reduce this increased disk space usage. Every time it happens I am forced to delete Baloo's index and start over. I'm including the result of `balooctl indexSize` below, as Output 4. I'm in the process of trying to write a bug report to cover disk usage problems with Baloo, as there isn't one at present I don't think. Yup, they're all affected. Basically anything that incorporates Present Windows seems to be affected the same way, and the problems only started as of 5.25.0. In fact, after noticing that the overview effect performed similarly in 5.24.5, I assumed it'd somehow gotten enabled in place of the present windows effect, so I think the new backend code is the likely culprit here. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kwin] [Bug 455760] New: Reimplemented Flip 3D window switcher in 5.24+: The window on top should be closer and disappear in front of you

For comparison, see a video of the old Kwin implementation of this effect, watch it in slo-mo: https://youtu.be/3U9mXwYj0zU?t=108 The reimplementation since 5.24 has a distanced perspective. The top window is smaller, never gets bigger than it would be on the desktop at the out transition and in general, it looks like it is filmed with a wide angle objective lens. It’s not the same fun the old effect has had. I recommend to change the perspective to a bit more middle-window view. »Move the camera a bit more to the right and come two steps closer.« This reimplementation is compensating lacking transparency with this wider viewing angle. Reimplementing transparency would fix that. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 455560] Window List applet's text label should be optional
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455560 --- Comment #2 from Denis Lisov --- (In reply to Nate Graham from comment #1) > I understand that the variable length based on window title can become > annoying, but a list of windows (per the widget's name) pretty much has to > display the window title. If it only displays the icon, it's not a list > anymore, and furthermore, only showing icons would leave you unable to > visually distinguish between windows that have the same icon, as when you > open multiple windows of an app. If we capped the length, then it would > elide long text at a certain point and that would be annoying too. Sorry, I may have stated the question not clear enough. Up to Plasma 5.24 the Window List applet used to have a single function: provide a way of choosing the window to switch to in two clicks via the popup. Since 5.25 it also has the second function of showing the user which application is active at the moment by replacing a small "open window list" button with a bigger and variable-size "current application" button. I don't have any problems with the window list pop-up itself showing both window icons and full-length window titles - as you say, it would be strange to have a list of windows that would not actually list windows. What I'm asking for is an option to disable the second function and go back to a "open window list" button instead of a "current application" one. For me the "current application" button provides no useful information because (a) the application that's currently active is part of my working context that's hard to lose track of, (b) this information isn't needed often as one usually cares about the window they're switching to, not the one they're switching from, and (c) it's easy to find the active window frame or look at the Task Manager applet even if lost. Furthermore, as the button displays the application name and not the window name it's already useless for distinguishing between windows of the same application, and the icon would be enough for distinguishing between different applications in most cases. Could you please clarify if I'm misunderstanding something or not understanding the intended use cases? It really looks to me like replacing the "open window list" panel button with the "current application" panel button trades panel space and layout consistency (due to variable width) for extra information that's in many cases both obvious from other indicators (decorations, task manager applet, etc) and useless / unactionable (do you often happen to ask yourself "what application does the focused window belong to"?). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

For example, clicking a link in an email opens the link in Firefox, but the Firefox window remains in the background. Another example is if I have the Plasma System Settings application open in the background then go into the Plasma Application Launcher and click on an item like "Display Configuration', it opens that configuration item in the System Settings window but it stays in the background behind any other open windows. I've tried all options of the "Focus stealing prevention" as suggested in the forum posts I've found online about this kind of issue, but nothing seems to change. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Log in to a Plasma Wayland desktop session from SDDM 2. Open the System Settings application 3. Open another application (e.g. Konsole) and leave in front of System Settings window 4. From the Application Launcher widget, select a System settings configuration section (eg. "Colors") 5. The System Settings application changes view to that configuration section (eg. the "Colors" settings screen), but the System Settings window stays in the background behind the Konsole window. [dolphin] [Bug 453700] dolphin in detailed view open files and folders also if I click elsewhere on the line not only on the filename
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453700 --- Comment #24 from Philipp Maierhöfer --- As is described there, this is a matter of highlighting. In Ark (I'm on 22.04.2), the entire line is clickable (and highlighted), but only the name is draggable, which is inconsistent in the described sense of space belonging to a specific object. Following my suggestion, only the Name column should be clickable & draggable. And to indicate that, only that column should be highlighted (rule: highlight the area that "belongs" to the item). Downside: we loose the visual accentuation of the rest of the row. Thanks to the alternating background colours in Dolphin's details view I'd find this acceptable (there is also the suggestion of different highlighting styles/colours). Of course in a perfect world all file listings in KDE applications would behave in the same way. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
