That something is not implemented is not a bug... It just means that nobody,
and that includes you, since Krita is open source, has had time or has managed
to implement the feature.

There was this problem before on Windows, it will probably be something similar
for macOS now. I think a bug report needs to be opened for libheif.

[plasmashell] [Bug 456408] [ Request ] Task manager arranges entries by where they're placed on the screen?

Thank you for your response.

I hate to disagree and I don't want to offend but I've seen those desktop
effects and, while they're neat, they're also cumbersome, slow, and hard to
work into my usual workflow. Especially since they can't be active at all times
or be bound to the mouse wheel (without the use of an external program).

They also don't address the concern I was trying to express earlier. I'll try
to reframe my request by presenting an admittedly specific use case; borderless
window tiling:
https://i.imgur.com/8Z6jFkK.png

Since the tiling kwin script handles window size and placement automatically
(mostly), there's even less need for a border than before. The title bar still
holds some value though, such as the ability to single click close a program
with only the mouse, or being able to access a window's alt+space menu also
with only the mouse.

It's important to note the title bar is useful ONLY because of the task
manager's shortcomings.

It's value is solely being able to quickly access a few basic window management
functions with a single click, such as minimizing, closing, shading, etc. With
the task manager also being able to handle some of these functions (all if you
count the right click menu), you end up with two redundant on-screen entities
doing the same job.

It makes sense to combine these two fragmented entities into one cohesive unit.

This single cohesive unit would most naturally order the window entries in the
task manager by their location on the screen.

I see nothing that suggests this isn't the most logical evolution of the modern
desktop environment.

I was reluctant to present this scenario before because I knew it only make it
easier to brush off the request, but since I already have, I would also like to
request that the window's title bar buttons be placed in the task manager.
There's no single mouse click way to maximize or pin a window via the task
manager. Mirroring the title bar buttons to the window's entry in the task
manager would immediately rectify this problem.

tl;dr:
The unnecessary redundancies of the title bar can finally be resolved, and all
it would require is adding the ability to mirror title bar buttons in the task
manager and automatically organize task bar entries by window placement. This
would maximize desk space without compromising ease of use.

I hope this frames my request better than before.

Thank you for your time, again.

It's only about systemsettings: appearance: global theme (unless you notice

No (on Slackware64-current but haven't tested Neon) though if it did, since I
only switch between Air & Oxygen that wouldn't be a solution.

We aren't overriding the default highlight code in HiddenItemsView.qml, which
suggests that there may be a deeper issue inherent to QtQuick's ListView
itself. I see that we *do* override the default highlight behavior in Kickoff,
where the highlight effect remains visible when hovering over a context menu
item.

If I'm right, we'll need to adopt similar code in the System Tray, or fix the
highlight visibility issue in ListView itself.

Also wanted to add that there's another new mystery color appearing in tabs.
This is not defined anywhere in the color scheme. It's the greenish color in

[kwin] [Bug 456697] New: [Wayland] Please provide a means to specify a custom modeline

2022-07-13 Thread Russell Haley
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=456697

Bug ID: 456697
Summary: [Wayland] Please provide a means to specify a custom
modeline
   Product: kwin
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: unspecified
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: wayland-generic
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: yumpusamongus+...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

In Xorg, it is possible to overclock a 60 Hz monitor to 70 Hz like so:

xrandr --newmode "1920x1080_70.00" 156.240 1920 1928 1960 2000 1080 1102
1110 1116 +HSync -VSync
xrandr --addmode HDMI-1 "1920x1080_70.00"
xrandr --output HDMI-1 --mode "1920x1080_70.00"

The timing parameters are generated by edid-decode, using the reduced blanking
v2 formula to fit within the pixel clock limit of single-link DVI:

edid-decode -X --cvt w=1920,h=1080,fps=70,rb=2

There is also an updated version of the conventional `cvt` program that can
calculate RBv2 modes, at
https://github.com/kevinlekiller/cvt_modeline_calculator_12/, but it isn't
packaged in my distribution.

Other applications include:

1. 48 Hz (or 72 if your monitor goes that high) for playing 24 Hz video without
3-2 pulldown.
2. Running games at lower vsync'ed frame rates on monitors that don't support
VRR, like the Steam Deck's 40 Hz mode.
3. Exactly matching the refresh rates of screens from different vendors,
although I've never needed it for this reason.
4. Conceivably, a user might even calculate non-standard 60 Hz modes with max
pixel clock (165 MHz) and an extended front porch, similar to VRR, in order to
reduce the probability of tearing in non-vsync'ed rendering.

There's supposedly a workaround by passing a fake EDID to the kernel,
https://askubuntu.com/questions/973499/wayland-how-to-set-a-custom-resolution/973582#973582,
but I couldn't get it (or any of the forks on github) to work. The tool in the
kernel sources generated EDID blocks without correct headers or checksums. At
that point the only way forward would've been writing a program to pull the
connected monitor's EDID out of /sys/class/drm and patch it. And even if that
worked, changing the EDID at runtime requires re-plugging the monitor and a
kernel with debugfs enabled, which would be very annoying if you're
experimenting with the limits of your monitor.

I'm using the Kubuntu backports PPA, but it looks like there isn't any
availability of Plasma 5.25 yet, even in the beta PPAs (which seem to be using
5.24.90). I want to help troubleshoot the issue as much as I can, but due to
work and uni commitments I'm unwilling to spend time installing an entirely
different distro to test if it is fixed, since installing all the tools I need
to work is extremely time consuming.

Is this feature ever going to be added? I've been hoping for this for years.

This is the one-and-only reason I'm still using Lightroom to manage all my
files, I'd love to ditch it entirely, because Digikam does everything else I
need for file management already, and it's so much faster than Lightroom.

I'm aware that you can do it on a per-folder basis, but that's way too tedious
when you're navigating 100s of folders, especially if you want to disable it
for a bit, and having to constantly check which folder is in which view
individually.

According to `sudo rg --one-file-system -Suu "Can only be used with threads"
--binary /usr`, the message probably comes from
/usr/lib64/libQt5Core.so.5.15.3, which the top culprits link against according
to `ldd`, and which is provided by the qt5-qtbase package.

According to `dnf history`, this package was updated from version 5.15.2-30 to
version 5.15.3-1 as part of the Fedora 35->36 upgrade on 2022-05-12. I have
attached the `dnf history info` from that transaction.

Oddly, the logs show 59 occurances of the message from 2022-03-29, when the
installed qt5-qtbase version was 5.15.2, but then it didn't appear again until
many boots later on 2022-05-16, which was the SECOND (wat?) boot and login
session after the Fedora 35->36 upgrade, with no intervening dnf transactions.
Unfortunately, I have no logs from before 2022-03-29, because
plasma-systemmonitor had some kind of fit and spammed hundreds of messages per
second, which flushed the journal from before that date.

I don't know whether this is a problem with libQt or with the use of it.

This seems similar to bug 418402, but it has a much wider blast radius and
seems to have started with a different version of qt5-qtbase.

[plasmashell] [Bug 456660] Backspace key reverts keyboard layout to default when using a non-default keyboard layout

2022-07-13 Thread Costas
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=456660

(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #1)
> Thanks for the detailed bug report. However I cannot reproduce the issue
> with those steps to reproduce.

Hi Nate, reporting back from trying the Ubuntu Studio Live USB and the problem
is there as well.

This is the simplest most direct way to test it (not sure if we need the ubuntu
studio live but this is what I tested)

Boot Ubuntu Studio Live
Select to try it
Once up and running, click the 'start' menu and click System Settings
In the search box, type 'layout'
In the results, select Hardware / Input Devices / Keyboard
Select the second tab, 'layouts'
Tick 'configure layouts'
English US should be there, so add a second language (in this case, greek) and
click apply
The language icon in the system tray will be visible on the panel
Open firefox and start typing in the address bar.
Then click on the language icon to change language
Type again in firefox address bar, should be with the new language
press backspace and see the language changing back to default

If this does not reproduce the error, then could it be a hardware issue? I have
a mechanical keyboard, have not loaded any macros or anything.

Thanks for checking it again,

Costas

Thanks, Nate for checking.
I think I need to re-install Ubuntu or purge my KDE installation to defaults
because this is giving me a headache. Possibly something got installed that is
causing the issue. I will try with the live version and then do a
re-installation and report back (as I cannot boot with the newest kernel, I get
a mtd has no name or something - something is wrong :))

Maybe triple click the super key? idk exactly how to reproduce, but I know
restarting fixes it and I think triple clicking super key causes it for me.

KDE Frameworks Version:
Qt Version:

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I am using the newest version of the software and when I try to use the layer
styles, I am able to use all of the functionality there except for the contours
function. I have reported this bug a while back on another version and it still
is not working correctly. Someone told me the last time I reported this bug
that they were implemented and is working. This is not true and whatever the
issue is with the layer styles contours not working in Window 10 needs to be
fixed so that it works for everyone on every machine that the software is being
run on. The blending options tab on the layer styles controls is showing as not
implemented either at this point.

Oops, this looks like it'll definitely be harder than it would initially seem
to fix due to the nature of how we're passing colours to QML and how that
interacts with modifier states like disabled and hovered. On it, though.
