[gwenview] [Bug 461488] New: Gwenview add ability to toggle between View and Browse modes with Return key.

2022-11-05 Thread Michael
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=461488

Bug ID: 461488
Summary: Gwenview add ability to toggle between View and Browse
modes with Return key.
Classification: Applications
   Product: gwenview
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: All
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: gwenview-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: vor...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

In the current state you can go from Browse to View by pressing Return (Enter
key), and it's not configurable in Keyboard Shortcuts settings. But to go back
to Browse you need a different hotkey, and setting Return there doesn't work.

Would be nice to have the ability to toggle between modes with one hotkey,
ideally configurable, but Return would be fine for me personally.

[kate] [Bug 461487] New: Kate crashes because katefilebrowserplugin.so loads the wrong kio-file-widgets shared library

2022-11-05 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=461487

Bug ID: 461487
Summary: Kate crashes because katefilebrowserplugin.so loads
the wrong kio-file-widgets shared library
Classification: Applications
   Product: kate
   Version: Git
  Platform: Compiled Sources
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: application
  Assignee: kwrite-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: kogiokkaf...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 153513
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=153513&action=edit
QT_PLUGIN_PATH=~/kde/usr/lib64/plugins:$QT_PLUGIN_PATH ltrace -C -o ltrace.log
~/kde/usr/bin/kate

SUMMARY

Kate launched by kdesrc-run crashes because katefilebrowserplugin.so tries to
load the wrong version of libKF5KIOFileWidgets.so.5 in the system path
(/usr/lib64). The plugin reports a symbol lookup error on
"_ZNK12KDirOperator6actionENS_6ActionE".

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use kdesrc-build to build Kate and install it at ~/kde/usr/
2. Execute "kdesrc-run kate"

OBSERVED RESULT
A symbol lookup error message will show, saying that katefilebrowserplugin.so
tries to find the undefined symbol "_ZNK12KDirOperator6actionENS_6ActionE". The
issue relates to commit 4cfb4123efc89b425dea176ccb5b58ce2f0ad5da.

The issue can be solved by defining LD_LIBRARY_PATH. kdesrc-run uses prefix.sh
from build trees to define environment variables. However, the LD_LIBRARY_PATH
variable has been commented out with a comment stating that "LD_LIBRARY_PATH
only needed if you are building without rpath." I checked the
katefilebrowserplugin.so with "readelf -d", and the RUNPATH is pointing to the
correct location.

EXPECTED RESULT

The plugin should find the proper KIO library even when the LD_LIBRARY_PATH is
not set. Alternatively, LD_LIBRARY_PATH should be set in prefix.sh by default.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Fedora Linux 36
KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.99.0
Qt Version: 5.15.6

[kcalc] [Bug 461485] New: [Suggestion] Setting to treat the equal ( = ) key as plus ( + )

2022-11-05 Thread NM64
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=461485

Bug ID: 461485
Summary: [Suggestion] Setting to treat the equal ( = ) key as
plus ( + )
Classification: Applications
   Product: kcalc
   Version: 22.08.1
  Platform: Kubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: ete...@alum.rit.edu
  Reporter: nm64+bugs.kde@pm.me
  Target Milestone: ---

OBSERVED RESULT
The equal ( = ) key behaves as 'equal' and there's no way to change this.

EXPECTED RESULT
The ability to use the equal ( = ) key as the plus ( + ) key without the need
to hold shift.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Kubuntu 22.10
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.98.0
Qt Version: 5.15.6

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The user can already use the 'Enter' key to achieve the equal function and
subtract ( - ) can be accessed without holding shift, yet add ( + ) is just as
if not more commonly used than subtract but requires holding shift.

Many other software that use plus and minus for various functions, such as
changing zoom levels or changing volume levels, allows using the equal ( = )
key without the need to hold shift, so why shouldn't calculator software be the
same, especially when the 'Enter' key already exists that doubles as the equal
function?

This would be particularly beneficial on keyboard that lack a NUMpad (typically
laptops).

[choqok] [Bug 461484] New: Unable to save unchecked timelines for Mastodon account

2022-11-05 Thread Evan McLean
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=461484

Bug ID: 461484
Summary: Unable to save unchecked timelines for Mastodon
account
Classification: Applications
   Product: choqok
   Version: Git
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Mastodon
  Assignee: scarp...@kde.org
  Reporter: ecogn...@michevan.id.au
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

I am trying to uncheck the Local and Federated timelines from my Mastodon
account (only really want to display Home) however when I save, it does not
have any effect. When I reopen the account settings, all timelines are still
checked.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Select Settings -> Configure Choqok from the main window's menu.
2. Select Accounts panel in configuration window.
3. Click on your Mastodon account.
4. Click Modify...
5. Click the Timelines Configuration tab.
6. Uncheck the Local and Federated timelines.
7. Click OK to save account settings.
8. Click OK in the Configuration window to save and close it.

OBSERVED RESULT

You'll notice in the main window that the Local and Federated timelines are
still visible.

If you repeat steps 1 to 5, you'll also see that all the timelines are still
checked.

EXPECTED RESULT

The Local and Federated timelines would not be visible or retrieved.

The checkboxes for those two timelines would be unchecked in the account
settings.

Had some time to look at this one now. I think the problem could be line 111 of
edexecutor.cpp.

https://invent.kde.org/system/kup/-/blob/master/daemon/edexecutor.cpp#L111

That should be mkpath instead of mkdir.

I don't have a computer to test it on, would appreciate of someone could try to
make that change, test and report.

[plasmashell] [Bug 461481] New: Cycle through tasks with scroll wheel - unintuitive

  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: kde@sbox.click
  Target Milestone: 1.0

Hello,

Currently, if there is only one window/instance of the application open, and
you scroll on that, it will cycle through all your open windows.

I would argue when someone is trying to show/scroll through a certain
application, the person is not interested in other windows, this is only
confusing. Especially because in a fast workflow, it is not clear at first
glance if there are other windows open. So the user expects something to happen
and will see two different results.

My suggestion is that using the scroll wheel on an application, should always
only scroll through the actual application, if only one windows/instance is
open, then just show that.

When my screen has gone to sleep due to inactivity, when I wake it up to unlock
my session, the screen turns on at the full backlight brightness, and then
fades to the brightness setting I had when I was using it.

This happens in Plasma across distros but it doesn't seem to happen with Gnome,
so it seems like it's something KDE related.

I can't begin to imagine where I should look to try to get to the bottom of
what the issue is, but I'm open to suggestions.

A lot of this logic was changed in 5.25 (see
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=399646). If that improved logic works
that's probably a better solution than exposing this as a configuration. Can
you test a current version and see if the backlight behaves properly without
needing this?

[plasmashell] [Bug 447717] plasmashell crashes when hovering or clicking items on the Panel due to "zwp_linux_buffer_params_v1.add" protocol error

Created attachment 153508

valgrind log of running plasmashell --replace with Blur effect disabled

Vlad, I reproduced three plasmashell crashes after disabling the Blur effect in
System Settings in Plasma 5.26.2 on Wayland, with KF 5.99.0, Qt 5.15.7 in a
Fedora Rawhide KDE Plasma live image
Fedora-KDE-Live-x86_64-Rawhide-20221103.n.0.iso on bare metal. The second crash
happened the first time I moved the cursor over the Firefox task manager icon.
The third crash was when I was running plasmashell under valgrind and took a
minute of moving the cursor over the task manager icons. It had errors like
kf.plasma.quick: Couldn't create KWindowShadow for ToolTipDialog(0x38aa6070)
wl_display@1: error 0: invalid object 145
The Wayland connection experienced a fatal error: Invalid argument

The same sorts of invalid reads were shown in the attached valgrind log. The
invalid reads might be enough to lead to the invalid object errors from
kwin_wayland, or they might result in memory corruption leading to the crashes.

I attached a WAYLAND_DEBUG=1 plasmashell --replace log for a previous crash at
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=461397#c1 though that one only had the
last 1000 lines or so due to the default konsole line limit. I could make a
full one if you want.

It's easy to miss the link emblem when the icon size is small and if you're
scanning filenames in a long list, you have a decent chance of missing the link
emblem anyway. I don't think there's a lot we can do about either of those
problems since there's only so much space when icons are small and the latter
problem is solved by italicizing the text (if you know what italicizing means).
Perhaps italicizing isn't the best way to communicate whether an item is a
symlink (besides the icon), but unless we come up with a suitable alternative,
we shouldn't remove it.

I think whether or not an item is a symlink is important to a user's use of it
if a user wants to copy/cut/paste/move a item because doing any of those can
break a symlink. If the user mistakes the symlink for a normal file,
manipulating it in any of those ways will also not do what they expect.

It's worth noting that the example screenshot shows a symlink on the desktop.
In that situation, you typically have large icons and less text contrast or
busy backgrounds. This is ideal for seeing the link emblem on the icon, but
kind of a worst case scenario for reading italicized text. If we are going to
change anything, we should consider how things will appear on the desktop and
how things will appear in a long list view with small icons.

Use a temporary file for large reports to avoid QWebEngine limit

QWebEngine::load is limited to 2MB, which when encoded and otherwise
processed, seems to be as low as 1,200,000 "characters" in a QString.

For large file, write to a temporary file before loading. This does not
take care of any relative links in the HTML, which will need further
work.

[neon] [Bug 461476] New: Issues with maximized windows in Konsole and Okular

2022-11-05 Thread Mark W. Alexander
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=461476

Bug ID: 461476
Summary: Issues with maximized windows in Konsole and Okular
Classification: KDE Neon
   Product: neon
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Neon
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Packages User Edition
  Assignee: neon-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: m...@anonymoose.net
CC: j...@jriddell.org, neon-b...@kde.org, sit...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Installed latest KDE neon 5.26 updates; Windows misbehave when maximized:

So far the following are affected:
(I started seeing this with Konsole because I live there. I've tried other
applications and include them here.)
 - Konsole
 - Okular
 - KeepassXC
 - KInfoCenter
 - KRDC
 - System Settings

Unaffected:
 - Dolphin
 - Brave browser

None of them updates the window when max'ed. It takes input and produces
output but nothing
changes in the window is restored.

OK, I give up. I'll stop maximizing ;)

Konsole STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Maximize windows
2. Enter a shell command
3. Restore window

Konsole OBSERVED RESULT
Window updates with shell command and result only when restored

Okular STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Maximize window
2. Click to open recent file: Doesn't accept click
3. Click Menu to open file: File opens in another window but isn't displayed
4. Alt-tab to new window shows only the window title until it's restored
5. Restore window and open a file
6. Maximize and try to scroll. Window doesn't change
7. Restore window and see that scrolling did, in fact, occur

Both EXPECTED RESULT
Updates in realtime

OTHER NOTES
Menus and hotkeys seem to work, but no window updates occur until the
window is restored.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: KDE neon 5.26
KDE Plasma Version: 5.26.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.99.0
Qt Version: 5.15.7
Kernel Version: 5.15.0-52-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I flagged this as "minor" because there's no "weird" severity. The workaround
is simple:
Don't do that.

I max most everything for focus and everything remembers to re-max when I open
a new window.

*Addendum:

Well, nuts. I just opened KInfoCenter and it opened maximized and worked fine.
UNTIL I restored and re-maxed.

Ditto with System Settings.

I got nothing...

That, or they patched out using systemd for autostart. Which you can also turn
off for yourself, but it could have other consequences and slow down Plasma's

[plasmashell] [Bug 461475] New: Login immediately after Logout may fail if systemd service stops too slowly

2022-11-05 Thread Jolene K
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=461475

Bug ID: 461475
Summary: Login immediately after Logout may fail if systemd
service stops too slowly
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.26.2
  Platform: Archlinux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Startup process
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: jol...@einhornkeks.de
CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
If using the systemd startup and a user service takes too long to shut down, a
future login may fail.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Ensure Plasma uses the systemd startup
2. Have a systemd user service which is very slow to shutdown (like /bin/bash
-c 'trap -- "" SIGINT SIGTERM; while true; do sleep 1000; done' in autostart,
but the virtualbox guest additions work too)
3. Logoff and then login again very quickly (can use SDDM autologin for this)

OBSERVED RESULT
Login fails with mouse cursor on black background.
session log says org.kde.startup: Could not start systemd managed Plasma
session: "org.freedesktop.systemd1.TransactionIsDestructive" "Transaction for
plasma-workspace-x11.target/start is destructive (graphical-session.target has
'stop' job queued, but 'start' is included in transaction)."

EXPECTED RESULT
Login works normally

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I believe that on logout, startplasma-{wayland,x11} should wait for
graphical-session.target to stop instead of waiting for a DBUS name to
disappear. I'll try to create a patch in the next few days.

Yes, might be unrelated. I was referred here from
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=450068

I am on Neon user edition. I just log in once a day to update and see if it got
better. Problem started with plasma 5.26. Thursday the 27 October the computer
one again worked. Then I was away for a week but it now keeps on working
perfectly.

Its a DP main screen that was problematic. Secondary screen connected by a HDMI
to DVI cable worked. Nvidia 1070 card with 515.65.01 driver. I just updated
with pkcon and discover.

I am sorry that I can not contribute more information.

Settings/Configure Keyboard Shortcuts says F7 is "Toggle caret mode." I can't
find any mention about khelpcenter having caret mode. Even searching the
source files, the only mention I see of F7 is for Ctl-F7 "Present Windows of
current application only" in the section on "Moving Around." I wonder if the
system is getting confused because that key combination (just F7) doesn't
actually map to anything in khelpcenter.

Ah, so it's just that old bug in Systemd:
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/18791

Until Systemd fixes the bug, you can work around it by removing the line with
"X-GNOME-Autostart-Phase" on it from the .desktop file of the autostart entry
for the app, which are not relevant to KDE Plasma and can be harmlessly
deleted.

It looks like Fedora patched their package to do this, so users don't have to.
Perhaps the Neon folks can do the same. Or maybe someone can submit a patch to
systemd that fixes the bug.

Nate Graham changed:

Digging a little, it seems like this was re-added to Dolphin 2 via Bug 298218,
after either breaking or being deliberately removed before that (can't tell
which). The explanation was "It's usual behaviour that symlinks are shown in
italic letters. That makes recognition a lot easier."

This might have predated badging the icon with a link emblem. Even if not,
italig text for symlinks was apparently at least one user's expectation. The
more I look at these items, the more I come to agree that both italicizing and
also showing a link emblem is excessive visual noise for a characteristic that
is not super important to force the user to acknowledge. But It's not a strong
feeling, and it's quite possible this would result in blowback and complaints.

I'll submit the merge requests and see how other people feel about it. Keep in
mind it's quite possible that we won't end up merging them.
