[kde] [Bug 465305] New: character counts are wrong when text includes emojis; each counted as two (2)
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465305 Bug ID: 465305 Summary: character counts are wrong when text includes emojis; each counted as two (2) Classification: I don't know Product: kde Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Other Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org Reporter: kdeb...@toeai.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY Product/Component unknown; sorry. Observed in kate and konsole, so probably affects something they both depend on. STEPS TO REPRODUCE (kate) 1. In kate, enter an emoji, e.g. 😊 2. Move cursor back and forth from before to after cursor. 3. Look at line:column indicator at bottom. OBSERVED RESULT (kate) Column jumps by two for a single character. EXPECTED RESULT (kate) Column should increase by only one per character. STEPS TO REPRODUCE (konsole) 1. In kate, copy and paste the emoji until you have OVER 4000 (e.g. 4001). (Remember that the column number will say 8003 at the end of a line with 4001 emojis.) 2. Select them all and copy to clipboard. 3. In konsole, run 'python3'. Then type: len(""" 4. Press Ctrl+Shift+V (or go to Edit, Paste; or right-click and select Paste). OBSERVED RESULT (konsole) It will ask you if you want to paste X number of characters (e.g. 8002) instead of the correct number (e.g. 4001). Answer 'yes'. Then complete the python expression with: """) and hit enter. The correct number of characters (e.g. 4001) is displayed. EXPECTED RESULT (konsole) It should count the characters correctly, not double-count them. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Kubuntu 22.10 KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.98.0 Qt Version: 5.15.6 Kate 22.08.2 Konsole 22.08.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION For casual users, the number of characters may not really matter, but for people like me who do programming or work on data projects, I need to know correct character counts, and not be wondering where did X number of characters go or where did X number of characters magically come from. If it's a single Unicode code point (e.g. U+1F60A) then it needs to be treated as just one character, regardless of how many bytes it might require to encode in a particular encoding. The whole point of working with text instead of bytes is that you can work with characters, not worrying about how things are encoded under the hood. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[frameworks-syntax-highlighting] [Bug 465304] New: syntax highlighting for QML is broken when file starts with shebang
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465304 Bug ID: 465304 Summary: syntax highlighting for QML is broken when file starts with shebang Classification: Frameworks and Libraries Product: frameworks-syntax-highlighting Version: 5.98.0 Platform: Other OS: Other Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: syntax Assignee: kwrite-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: kdeb...@toeai.com CC: walter.von.entfer...@posteo.net Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY Syntax highlighting for QML files is broken when the file includes shebang line. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open kate. 2. Make and save a QML file, e.g. "hello.qml": import QtQuick 2 Rectangle { width: 200 height: 100 Text { text: "Hello, World!" } } 3. Add a shebang line at the beginning of the file, e.g. #!/usr/bin/env qml OBSERVED RESULT When you add the shebang, everything but the first two characters (or until a /* multi-line comment */) turns orange (or green, in eariler versions.) EXPECTED RESULT Shebang should not break highlighting. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Kubuntu 22.10 KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.98.0 Qt Version: 5.15.6 Kate 22.08.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION A commit related to Bug 325805 apparently fixed this for JavaScript in 2014. That commit also involved a minor change to qml.xml, however I don't think it ever worked in QML. Copying the lines related to shebang from javascript.xml into qml.xml seems to make it correctly recognize the shebang line, except that it doesn't color it like a comment, and I don't know enough about this syntax highlighting system to know how to fix that. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465299 --- Comment #2 from Nagy Tibor --- Some more details about how this broke my volume controls because I realized it might not be obvious: With these high resolution scrolling changes one or two ratchet clicks of wheel rotation started going from 0% straight to 100% of volume. Previously with low-res scrolling this took 20 ratchet clicks. It also introduced constant scroll twitching that was suppressed before by low resolution scrolling. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

However, it doesn't work at all currently. I've attached a simple video which, as you can see, continues to record even after the recording has been "ended". This is a welcome addition, however it cannot be configured, and it is an issue: 1: Users may dislike this feature. 2: in games (e.g. Minecraft, scrolling through items in the hotbar becomes unreliable due to scroll interpolation or Counter Strike: Global Offensive, where the same applies to the weapon selector) There should be an option to easily disable this feature within kcm_mouse. libinput allows for configuring this feature, so it should be possible. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Start a Plasma Wayland session. 2. Open System Settings 3. Navigate to Input Devices > Mouse 4. Observe options 5. Navigate to Workspace Behavior > General Behavior 6. Observe options OBSERVED RESULT There is no option to disable smooth/high resolution scrolling, per mouse or system-wide. EXPECTED RESULT There should ideally be an option to disable smooth/high resolution scrolling, both per mouse and system-wide.
