[lattedock] [Bug 466390] New: Tray icon is where it is not supposed to be on Wayland

2023-02-24 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466390

Bug ID: 466390
Summary: Tray icon is where it is not supposed to be on Wayland
Classification: Plasma
   Product: lattedock
   Version: git (master)
  Platform: Manjaro
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: plasmoid
  Assignee: mvourla...@gmail.com
  Reporter: jan.clausse...@web.de
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
The tray icon of the Mailspring application seems to position itself invisibly
under the application starter on Wayland after the applications is being
started After clicking on the actual tray icon on the right this behavior
stops. After closing and running the application again, it occurs again. This
doesn't happen on X11 or the Plasma panel on Wayland. It is probably not an
issue with Mailspring, but with Latte.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install Latte dock and open a Plasma Wayland session
2. Install Mailspring open it
3. Click on the application launcher

OBSERVED RESULT
The settings of the Mailspring tray icon are shown, although the icon is on the
right

When:
1) laptop screen: disabled at startup, monitor screen: enabled at startup,
kscreen2: enabled at startup
No increases in memory consumption observed when enabling and disabling my
screens in different configurations through nvidia-settings.
I don't know on what my system depends to keep the setting to disable my laptop
screen at startup but when it does so I'm happy.
I want to add that at the login screen both screens are enabled and after login
my laptop screen gets disabled by itself. It's ok for me.

2) laptop screen: enabled at startup, monitor screen: enabled at startup,
kscreen2: disabled at startup
No increases in memory consumption observed when enabling and disabling my
screens in different configurations through nvidia-settings.

3) laptop screen: enabled at startup, monitor screen: enabled at startup,
kscreen2: enabled at startup
Increases in memory consumption observed when disabling my laptop screen
through nvidia-settings (as reported initially).

Hi! Can you please attach the file which causes the crash or mail it to me at
shzam at sdf.org?

Please also share info from Help -> Show system information for bug reports. I
believe the crash may be due to an out of memory error (which means that the
image was too big to operate on, so system killed Krita because it was
requesting lots of memory.).

[kdenlive] [Bug 466232] Subtitles are drawn from wrong source when rendering projects in batch mode

2023-02-24 Thread Terry Hancock
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466232

I did find a work-around:
Since the MLT files have only the one reference to the SRT file source, it's
possible to simply replace the temporary file listed with the correct sidecar
SRT file from the projects directory, using a text editor. Once corrected, the
batch runner will generate the videos with the correct subtitles, regardless of
what project is open in Kdenlive. It's a bit of a hassle, but much better than
running the jobs one-by-one.

This sidecar SRT files exists after the first save of the project file after
the subtitles have been added, so presumably some kind of hook could be used to
update the script generate on what SRT file to reference, when the project is
saved.

[frameworks-kded] [Bug 466387] New: Intermittent segfault when plugging in PS5 or PS4 controller

2023-02-24 Thread Andrew Gunnerson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466387

Bug ID: 466387
Summary: Intermittent segfault when plugging in PS5 or PS4
controller
Classification: Frameworks and Libraries
   Product: frameworks-kded
   Version: 5.103.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: fa...@kde.org
  Reporter: accounts+...@chiller3.com
CC: kdelibs-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

When I plug in my PS5 or PS4 controllers via USB, kded will sometimes segfault.
I have not changed any settings other than disabling the controller's touchpad
from KDE's system settings.

It happens pretty frequently, but not always. There seems to be a higher chance
of a crash after resuming from suspend, but I don't have any hard data on that.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Plug in PS5 or PS4 controller via USB

OBSERVED RESULT

kded segfaults (which triggers side effects related to that, like night color
breaking)

EXPECTED RESULT

kded shouldn't crash

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Linux/KDE Plasma: Fedora 37 (x11 session)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.103.0
Qt Version: 5.15.8

(In reply to Rob Krum from comment #2)
> Sadly I am unable to reproduce the error with the script provided.
> ... It might be because I'm running
> it in IDLE and terminal?

I just realized we're experiencing this error message in different places. You
say it's in your systemd journal logs. For me, it's just dumped into my
Konsole window via stderr. It does not appear when I look in journalctl.

I don't have IDLE installed, but I can't imagine that would make a difference.
It works the same for me whether I just run
python3 kiobug.py
or whether I start the REPL with python3 and then paste in the contents of the
file.
You do, of course, need to follow the directions at the top of the file, i.e.
click into the 'subdir' folder and hit escape to close the first popup. The
script I provided depends on PyQt5, but I also tried it with PySide2 and it
works identically.

Sorry if it didn't reproduce for you. It still does 100% for me.

I was also able to reproduce it in K3B using the same method.** I also
reproduced it in Konsole using the same method (using the Open File dialog that
comes up with you click "View" -> "Load tab layout from file"). I couldn't
reproduce it from certain other KDE programs, but that may have something to do
with the particular file type filter each program applies to the Open File
dialog.

**Make a folder containing a file that the program will not recognize and will
thus filter out in the Open File dialog. Launch the program from the folder
containing the new folder (not from the new folder itself). Open the open
dialog, click into the folder, cancel/escape, and then open the dialog again.

at display port connections on the GPU? I'm so disappointed...

[plasmashell] [Bug 466331] Application Menu and Icon Only Task Manager become uninteractable after right click opening from favorites.

2023-02-24 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466331

Well just learned something else after I made my post and tried fiddling with
something. If I use the right click menu to open a recent file that works as
intended can still interact with the task manager and application menu
normally, but if I right click a web browser and select any of the options like
New Window, New Private Window, or Open Profile Manager then I will not be able
to interact with the task manager or the application menu until closing that
application as originally stated.

This also applies to the KDE Settings if I right click the KDE Settings on
Favorites and select a category I will get the same behavior as with opening a
web browser that way. At first I thought the issue was only web browsers before
I posted, but then I tried Settings and got the same behavior. Unfortunately I
didn't think to see if opening a recent file via click would also result in the
same behavior which for some reason it does not.

for the "Favorites" part of the Application Menu if I right click and open an
application from "Recent Applications" or any other category in the menu it
works fine. So the issue is solely with the pinned "Favorite" icons on the left
side of the Application Menu as shown in the attached image.

After further investigation I was initially launching FF by calling a shell
script to run on the discrete GPU.
This shell script sets a few environment variables and then runs FF.

I modified the application entry for FF inside kmenuedit and instead of calling
a shell script, I entered the environment variables manually, and inside
Program I entered firefox.

After making this change, FF no longer appears inside the systemctl status of
plasmashell.

After the KDE update, I've notice a considerable overall sluggishness in
opening application. Also opening krunner, even typing feel delayed and then
hitting backspace. Everytime a charated is typed or deleting, I think a search
operation is getting kicked off and this add to the delayed feeling.

My java trading application also now takes longer to open and become ready.

I am using KDE on openSUSE TW.

SUMMARY
The current back and forward navigation method is not really usable. I
understand the need of creating something original, but navigating with swipe
gestures is simply the best method on touch devices. No one wants to open a
menu and tap on a back button or have back and forward buttons in the browser
bar like in early Android times. I strongly encourage you to implement this and
open the menu with a button instead!

2023-02-24 Thread Henning
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466377

Bug ID: 466377
Summary: Created .md document not recognized as such in Okular
document preview
Classification: Applications
   Product: kate
   Version: 22.12.2
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kwrite-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: amanita+kdeb...@mailbox.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
I use Kate (rpm version now, as flatpak doesnt work view preview) together with
the preview plugin using Okular.
When creating a .md file manually, the document preview plugin doesnt render it
as markdown, probably because the mimetype of the generated document isnt
adapted to the file extension. This may also be a problem with other mimetypes.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add the Preview Plugin to Kate and enable the view
2. Create a new document, save it as document.md
3. write some markdown syntax like "## header"
4. reload the document preview

OBSERVED RESULT
The mimetype seems to be incorrect. The preview plugin works normally on files
created through Dolphin through templates or by creating a text file and naming
it "document.md" manually

EXPECTED RESULT
Kates created documents should inherit the mimetype from their extension. I
guess

So, nothing can be done on this before Plasma 6 ?

Am I missing something or is the only thing missing a backport of
https://invent.kde.org/qt/qt/qtwayland/-/commit/23d3fc7 into branch `kde/5.15`?

If I were to try to submit a PR for this, it would be rejected?

Sadly I am unable to reproduce the error with the script provided. I had
however put: [export QT_LOGGING_RULES="kf.kio.widgets.kdirmodel.warning=false"]
into my .bashrc file previously to supress the noise these errors cause. I've
removed that line and the noise from kmozillahelper has resumed, flooding my
logs, but the script itself isn't generating anything. It might be because I'm
running it in IDLE and terminal?

I just found that on Kubuntu 22.10 the XCB workaround is also completely
broken, just making the file tab all black. Wayland problem is still present.

(In reply to David Edmundson from comment #5)
> I'm debugging blind a bit, but it seems we have multiple TMTab objects that

I think you are right, see
https://invent.kde.org/sdk/lokalize/-/blob/master/DESIGN:
> Tabs are KMainWindows + KXmlGuiCleints.

Given that workarounds are not really working, I guess the application code
should be modified.

Are you sure? That bug is about a display being disabled, whereas with my bug,
the display is enabled and functions, but just doesn't have a wallpaper or
desktop functionality. I can still drag windows to it, etc. Also, that bug
appears to involve NVIDIA, but I can repro this bug in Virtualbox.

[kwin] [Bug 460572] Windows snapped to screen edges display correctly but content is shifted to the right virtually

2023-02-24 Thread Andrew Udvare
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=460572

The UBSAN/ASAN output is probably not related. -fno-tree-vectorize does not
resolve the issue with -march=native (or x86-64-v4) which is suprising.

For the last test these were the flags:

CXXFLAGS="-O2 -ggdb -march=native -mtune=native -pipe -fno-tree-vectorize
-fsanitize=undefined"
LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed -fsanitize=undefined"

Expanded native:

CXXFLAGS="-O2 -ggdb -march=rocketlake -mabm --param=l1-cache-line-size=64
--param=l1-cache-size=48 --param=l2-cache-size=16384 -pipe -fno-tree-vectorize
-fsanitize=undefined"
LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed -fsanitize=undefined"

rocketlake can be replaced with x86-64-v4 and the results will be the same.

[neon] [Bug 466373] Qt apps don't use wp-fractional-scale-v1 for hidpi fractional scaling on Wayland

2023-02-24 Thread Edward Oubrayrie
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466373

Created attachment 156690
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=156690=edit
plasma 5.27.1 - artifacts with both XWayland(XCB) and Wayland

I had not rebooted after 5.27.1 final so I was probably mostly on Neon testing
from 2023-02-17

So, attaching this as the current status. Unfortunately 5.27.1 changes nothing
for the platform=wayland scenario -- and it seems to regress the platform=xcb
XWayland scenario, making it blurry (not that I care)

Yes I have an nVidia GPU w/ the nvidia arch package installed. But I do not
believe nvidia-settings is installed.
