[kwin] [Bug 468844] New: KWin Wayland froze my GPU when using Kate editor
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=468844 Bug ID: 468844 Summary: KWin Wayland froze my GPU when using Kate editor Classification: Plasma Product: kwin Version: 5.27.4 Platform: Fedora RPMs OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: wayland-generic Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: akse...@akselmo.dev Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 158346 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=158346&action=edit Logs from when Kwin Wayland session froze my GPU SUMMARY I do not exactly remember what happened, but when I moved mouse to the integrated terminal in Kate, my screen froze. I could still heard sounds as I was listening to a podcast at the same time. After some while there was minor artifacting in the screen where Kate was, but screen was still frozen. I then pressed ctrl+alt+backspace to kill the Wayland session. STEPS TO REPRODUCE Unfortunately I have no detailed reproducing steps, but it seems to have something to do with moving mouse between GPU accelerated applications, such as Terminal and Kate, especially if the other app is embedded inside the other. OBSERVED RESULT Screen freezes and minor artifacting occurs. EXPECTED RESULT Screen would not freeze. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=468809 ratijas changed: What|Removed |Added Resolution|--- |FIXED Status|REPORTED|RESOLVED Version Fixed In||5.27.5 --- Comment #1 from ratijas --- > For example flatpak-kcm doesn't seem to be able to show me the > "xdg-config/gtk-3.0:ro" field Flatseal does. It can, and it does. At least on master and upcoming Plasma/5.27.5. > Moreover Flatseal also allow the possibilities to edit those "other files" > fields That's kind of oversimplification, and not how it really works. If you want a different filesystem path, just add it. If you don't need an existing one, just remove it. You don't change the name, you are deleting one and adding another. Since they are all potentially influenced by multiple levels of overrides, you can't just "change" the path on the last (user per-app) level and call it a day — there would still exist other entries in higher configuration layers. That is also the reason why removing entries that are provided from "defaults" is not supported — on a per-app user layer you can only assign them a different policy (e.g. !negate) but not to remove them. The new dialogs UI is gonna make the process of adding new entries a bit more streamlined by introducing an Open Folder dialog to help users getting that path string right on the first try, so that they won't need to remove and re-add it just because of some stupid typo. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[systemsettings] [Bug 468808] flatpak-kcm bus sections have several problems
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=468808 ratijas changed: What|Removed |Added Resolution|--- |FIXED Status|REPORTED|RESOLVED Version Fixed In||5.27.5 --- Comment #1 from ratijas --- Bus sections in 5.27.4 indeed used to have those problems. Luckily, all of those are fixed on master, and going to hit a release with 5.27.5. > Probably adopt the same design as flatseal Probably not, sorry. I see FlatSeal's design as needlessly restrictive. Why not allowing a user to change the policy after creation of an entry? What if you want to change the policy of an existing one to be less permissive? IMHO that doesn't make such sense. > Session bus list is bugged: it does show the string "all the system > configuration" (the string may be different, because I'm translating it) > instead of the actual name of the bus. That was an accident of not clearing the semi-global description string variable and re-using it for one of D-Bus sections instead of a service name. OBSERVED RESULT On Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma: 5.27.4 after 2 days of uptime all my windows lost their borders, and the panel and main menu KDE buttons stop responding to mouse clicks. On Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma: 5.27.4 I noticed the following (as reported at https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=468340) : There seem to be different manifestations of the same problem. I have observed each of the following happening, but not all at once: 1. Patches of the screen go black or are fixed (as in not updated) with an old image. 2. My Plasma panel stops responding to mouse clicks (and the digital clock on my panel stops updating). 3. All my windows lose their borders. 4. I have what appears to be the same problem on four machines, all running either Kubuntu 22.04 LTS or Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.27, two of which are identical models, so I don't think it's a hardware problem. The models are: 1. Dell Precision 5520 laptop 2. Dell Precision 5530 laptop (x 2) 3. Dell XPS 8940 desktop Nothing helpful shows up in the logs, and when the problem happens I can `ssh` into the machine or `Alt-Ctrl-F2` to drop to console mode to reboot. Things I've tried, none of which prevent the problem: - Running newer kernel (5.19.17 instead of 5.15.0). - Using Wayland instead of Xorg. - Upgrading to Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.27 on one Precision 5530. I'd be very grateful if someone could suggest things I could do to diagnose what's causing the problem next time it happens. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. open a folder containing several files with Dolphin 2. select several files with mouse or select all files by pressing ctrl+a 3. cut all selected files by pressing ctrl+x OBSERVED RESULT Sometimes Dolphin does not cut all selected files. If the bug does not occur for you after the steps above, repeat them a few times. At some point the bug will occur. EXPECTED RESULT Dolphin always cuts all selected files after the provided steps SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.105.0 Qt Version: 5.15.9 Graphics Platform: Wayland -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kate] [Bug 468835] New: add option to customize width of the cursor
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=468835 Bug ID: 468835 Summary: add option to customize width of the cursor Classification: Applications Product: kate Version: 22.08.2 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: kwrite-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: pierre-y...@mnet-online.de Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 158341 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=158341&action=edit side-by-side-comparison Kate versus Visual Studio Code On a eInk-display in text-mode, it is not so easy to catch the position of the cursor even if the cursor is blinking because on a eInk-display in text-mode there is just black and white, so a highlighted line in a smooth color (so between black and white) as visual orientation is not possible. In the editor Visual Studio Code the width of the cursor can be customized. The image kate_versus_vscode.jpg was made with a digital camera for a side-by-side-comparison. On the left side there is the editor Kate with a cursor, and on the right side there is the editor Visual Studio Code with a cursor with the value "editor.cursorWidth": 3. The image shows that in the editor Visual Studio Code it is easier to find the cursor position. Possible solution for the settings In the Settings, in Configure Kate..., in Appearance, in General, there could be a text like: width of the cursor: ... Remark If this option will be realized one day, then one should have also a look at the https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=468457, because if one decide to use a big cursor, then a big cursor will appear in all inactive views what can be disturbing. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[systemsettings] [Bug 468834] New: wish: Delayed autostart of an application per user
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=468834 Bug ID: 468834 Summary: wish: Delayed autostart of an application per user Classification: Applications Product: systemsettings Version: unspecified Platform: Debian testing OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: wishlist Priority: NOR Component: kcm_autostart Assignee: nicolas.fe...@gmx.de Reporter: kde-...@schiermeier-it.de CC: plasma-b...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- I would like to have the option to choose a delay in seconds when starting up an app/script/somethingelse via "Autostart". SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: Devuan GNU/Linux 5 KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.2 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.103.0 Qt Version: 5.15.8 Kernel Version: 6.1.0-7-amd64 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: X11 Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Eight-Core Processor Memory: 62.7 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660/PCIe/SSE2 Some applications need a completely loaded and activated environment to start. This shouldn't be necessary, but ok - it happens. Others should wait until I'm also in place. Here are some examples for use cases: 1.) The Google Drive: if it starts with autostart, it will crash or stall 2.) Or to start my mail program one minute after login I know this: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=456332 but seems not to be convenient. Also, I know a similar feature from Gnome and Cinnamon: https://www.linuxuprising.com/2020/11/how-to-launch-startup-applications-with.html Gnome has the "X-GNOME-Autostart-Delay=3" in Desktop files which reside in the user's "autostart" folder (~/.config/autostart) to manage the delayed start of individual applications. This would be nice also in KDE/plasma. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=468667 Thomas Fischer changed: What|Removed |Added Status|REPORTED|RESOLVED Resolution|--- |NOT A BUG --- Comment #1 from Thomas Fischer --- Floating panels can be re-attached to the main window by grabbing them at their own small title bars with your mouse cursor and dragging them towards the left or right border of the main window. Then, in the main window some visual feedback is shown where the panel will be placed if you release the mouse button. I'll attach some screenshots for demonstration. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
