[digikam] [Bug 470566] Metadata not updated
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470566 --- Comment #26 from Maik Qualmann --- So, after various tests on Windows, I can't reproduce the problem. There is one more thing, since the last versions of Exiv2 (also 0.27.5) the Unicode support in Windows is broken. If your image path contains characters that are outside of the current Windows code page, problems may arise. Check this out, please. Otherwise we need the image with the problem and a real log (not a log from a test collection) when updating the metadata of the corresponding image. If not publicly possible, to my private mail. [ark] [Bug 470654] New: Progress bars are severely broken
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470654 Bug ID: 470654 Summary: Progress bars are severely broken Classification: Applications Product: ark Version: 23.04.1 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: elvis.angelac...@kde.org Reporter: fabian.ar...@root-core.net CC: aa...@kde.org, rthoms...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 159470 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=159470&action=edit Plugin settings This is most likely a duplicate of Bug 402824 and Bug 382599 and their duplicates, but it differs. I invested way too much time into this little test.. but there are multiple issues with the progress bars in Ark. I don't know if this should be split into multiple bug reports. Plugin settings are in the attachment. --- Packing --- All testing was done in Ark, not from the context menu. A single asset file from a game (6.3G) was archived with all formats available to me. Packing failed: - .jar: It's just skipping the file - .tar.lzo: Error "Could not set the compression method." Progress broken (ping pong): - .7z - .rar (RarLabs) - .tar - .tar.bz2 - .tar.gz - .tar.Z - .tar.lrz - .tar.lz4 - .tar.lz - .tar.lzma - .tar.xz Progress broken (jumps to 50% and no progress, jumps to 100% when done): - .tar.zst Progress 0-50%: - .zip Adding a second file to .tar.zst yields the same result. Adding a second file to .zip results in starting at 25% and ending at 50%. Third 33% to 50%. etc. Adding a second file to the other formats results in ping pong. On my system there is no option to create a multi-part .zip file, which would be worth to test. -- Unpacking via Dolphin context menu -- Unpacking is a mess tbh. I measured the time it takes to process the archive until the file list is loaded. At this point a dialog is opened asking if the file should be replaced. In this time there is a ping-pong progress bar shown. After the extraction starts there is progress on the most formats, but it ends at 50% and is finished afterwards. One exception is .tar.lrz, which jumps to 49% after 30 seconds and is loaded after 286 seconds. It progresses to 100% in 282 seconds afterwards. There is no progress at all on .7z files, just ping pong. Files in .zip or .rar format jump to 50% and have no progress until they jump to 100%. Unpacked via Ark, they just ping pong. I tested both: unrar and rar (RarLabs) Unpacking in Ark (drag and drop) Unpacking via Ark per drag and drop does not have any progress for any file (ping pong in Dolphin / scrolling in Ark). .rar and .7z files request to replace the existing file after extraction, unlike all other formats. - Unpacking in Ark (extract button) - This seems to work for the most types, unlike single file actions. The .rar, .zip and .7z files show only the waiting indicators (ping pong). The .rar and .7z files request to replace the existing file immediately. -- Conclusion -- There are multiple issues regarding the progress. 1. There is only a waiting indicator (ping pong) if the extraction was started from Ark via drag and drop (single file). 1.1. There is a progress bar if the extraction is done via the "Extract" button, as it is a different action (whole archive). 2. Creating an archive in Ark also only shows a waiting indicator for most types. 2.1. Same for Dolphin context menu's .tar.gz. 2.2. The .zip progresses from 0% to 50% in Dolphin. It ends at the compressed size ratio. (if the archive is 66% the size of the input, it ends at 33%) 3. Unpacking via. context menu is a multi step effort. The archive's file meta data is read first. 3.1. Unpacking via. Ark is different, as the meta data is already read. 4. Checks if a file has to be replaced, should be handled by the parsed meta data, not after unpacking by file transactions. (Drag and drop .rar / .7z) 5. The progress of adding a file to a .zip should start at 0% Progress bars are always difficult to implement.. you never really know how long something takes. There are basically two naive approaches. First, use the file count. Second, use the file size. Both can be problematic in a mixed set of small and big files. File size might be a better option, but could be misleading if lots of small files slow down the process. Possible solutions: - At least for a single file operation the file size would be helpful - One good solution might be to show two progress bars: current file (file size) and overall progress (file count or file size) - A data transfer rate would make a good addition A major problem might be the info given by used libs.. so one might hav

[plasmashell] [Bug 470649] New: Resizing applets menu to maximal size change its position
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470649 Bug ID: 470649 Summary: Resizing applets menu to maximal size change its position Classification: Plasma Product: plasmashell Version: 5.27.5 Platform: Neon OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: minor Priority: NOR Component: System Tray Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: esperluett...@proton.me CC: mate...@gmail.com Target Milestone: 1.0 SUMMARY When resizing the applets menu to it maximal size (or, tested on a VM with smaller screen size, resizing to the right edge of the screen), after closing then re-opening this menu, it's become horizontally aligned on screen (see attached screenshot). It seems intentional because if nicely horizontally aligned (instead of still being aligned on the right side of the screen), but it allows to be resized from the right side of the menu, so it can be resized to be floating on left of the screen (then, after being closed and re-opened, it keeps its size but the positioned on right side of the screen again). STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open system tray "menu" (by clicking on sound volume system tray icon, for example) 2. Resize the menu to it's maximal horizontal size (from menu left edge), or on a small screen size, to the screen left edge 3. Close the menu. 4. Re-open the menu. OBSERVED RESULT The menu keeps the same size, but it's horizontally aligned on screen (instead of staying aligned on the right). It's also possible to resize the menu from the right edge, resizing to its minimal size, but then it's floating on left side of the screen (this position is ignored once the menu is closed then re-opened, where the menu is aligned on screen right edge, again). EXPECTED RESULT The menu should always stay on the right edge of the screen, and couldn't be resized from its right side. EXPECTED RESULT The label should display the remaining time of the currently played media (if known), like in VLC Android app. Pressing/tapping again shows total duration again. [kwin] [Bug 470647] New: Maximizing a window should un-shade it
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470647 Bug ID: 470647 Summary: Maximizing a window should un-shade it Classification: Plasma Product: kwin Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Other Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: esperluett...@proton.me Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY When shading a window then enabling/disabling maximize (from right-click menu or with Meta+PageUp shortcut), the window doesn't un-shade. Since maximizing a window is about changing its size/geometry (and not only the position), I think it makes sense to un-shade it to explicitly display its new size/geometry. Also, shading a window may be unwanted (like selecting the option from Taskbar without understanding what it does, on an application that is in background and hidden by another window), it's may not be easy to find how the un-shade the window, and maximizing the window may be the first solution for most users (to "reset" the window). Note: This is the behaviour in Xfce, enabling/disabling the maximizing of a window also un-shade it. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open any (not maximized) window 2. Shade a window (by right-clicking on window top and selecting "More Actions > Shade") 3. Maximizing the window (Top arrow, or Meta+PageUp if it's still the shortcut) OBSERVED RESULT The window fills the screen in width but is still shaded. EXPECTED RESULT The window would un-shade, and so, fills the complete screen. I've also tested on KDE apps like Dolphin, Gwenview and Kate on Xfce (4.18), with the same result (accent not showing after a single key press). (In Krita, "^" and "¨" keys are simply ignored in all settings fields, it's not possible to entre "â" or "ü" with my current keyboard layout.) On Gnome apps (tested with Geany and Boxes) and Xfce apps (Thunar, etc.) on KDE, it works as expected, the pressed accent is underlined (just like in the attached Firefox screenshot, since, I imagine, Firefox uses Gtk). So it appears that it's only KDE/Qt apps that don't show accent after a single accent key press. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
