hi.  apologies for the breakage.  neon testing was utilising neon unstable's
qt5 and kf5 packages.  however recent changes to some kf5 packages in relation
to plasma6 have thus filtered down into neon stable and broken stuff.  to solve
this problem testing has been diverted since last week to allow the deployment
of native qt5 and kf5 packages in testing.  obviously this is a huge change to
the tooling infrastructure and is now in being tested before the diversion is
removed and the new packages are made available in the archive.

I apologize for not being able to respond for a long time.
Because I don't understand English, I rely on machine translation. Does it mean
you want me to provide the problematic PSD data?
I can't load all PSD data, regardless of their file size.
I'm not sure if I need to provide PSD data from my side, but for now, I will

I was using Firefox, had hexchat, steam, discord running in the background.
Went to open Dolphin from the taskbar, instead of opening Dolphin Plasma
crashed. When I tried to do the same thing again right after it worked, so it
was just a random crash.

I'm using Debian Sid so it's not really a surprise but figured I'd file the
report anyway in case it helped.

The crash does not seem to be reproducible.

I've already said it in Comment 2, I suppose I should expand the details:

Even though most button-less trackpads can press-to-click, 
but in reality, such interaction is not a practical way to use those devices. 
They are clearly not engineered to be used as such. 

The natural interaction on those device is self-explained:

1) Who knows to press down for a button, when there is NO BUTTON to be seen? 
-- newer generations GREW UP WITH TOUCHSCREENS, 
-- they will never have guessed the trackpad can be pressed down for a button.

2) You often need to press really hard to initiate a click. 
-- because unlike a physical button, you don't know where the switch is under
the surface.
-- as such, precise clicks and dragging are nearly impossible, 
-- and mistakes are rampant because there is no clear divide between the
trackpad and the "buttons".

If there is anything the trackpad designers are trying to imply, 
they are encouraging people to use tap-to-click, while discouraging people from
using press-to-click. 
Press-to-click on a trackpad is more like a fail-safe, fallback, last-resort
kind of feature.

According to my observation, 
NOBODY in ANY organization I worked in EVER used press-to-click on their
button-less trackpads. 

EVERY people I EVER recommended KDE Plasma to, the FIRST difficulty they ran
into on a laptop 
has ALWAYS been the "tap-to-click" feature being disabled by default.

Maybe it only with old trackpads. Not so much for modern devices. 
I never had any misclicks on my tiny 10-inch mini-laptop with tap-to-click.

Now enabling that feature becomes one of the first things I changed, 
and the same for many more other people...

Disabling tap-and-click by default is a misfeature that turns first time users
away. 
Really bad first impression when you can't even click anything unless educated
before-hand. 
EVERY OTHER OSes are doing the opposite, KDE Plasma's default behavior stands
out like a sore-thumb.

The situation has changed, and the world has moved on. We need to adapt.
I really don't think dwelling on the past experience is going to help us in the
long run.

SUMMARY
KPhotoAlbum crashes if all these conditions are met:
1. Thumbnail Viewer has at least two videos at the start (top) followed by a
mix of images and/or videos, and
2. User opens in Viewer any Video, and
3. User resizes the Viewer window while viewing Video, and
4. User then moves from Video to an Image

1. Open KPhotoAlbum
2. Ensure that the Thumbnail View has at least two videos at the start (top)
followed by a mix of images and/or videos
3. Open any Video in the Thumbnail View in Viewer
4. While viewing Video, resize the Viewer window (for example by using mouse to
drag window edges or click maximize window button)
5. Scroll to an Image in the Viewer (using mouse wheel, Pg-up/down or trackpad)
6. KPhotoAlbum crashes

1. This bug is likely a duplicate of Bug 472610. I cannot tell for sure if
thats the same issue since my issue seems to require more steps.
2. Crash is reproducible every time the steps are followed.
3. Crash occurs even in the demo database. However, by default the demo
database has only a single video, movie.avi. To easily setup the demo database
for this bug do the following:
3a. Open demo database
3b. Go to /tmp/kphotoalbum-demo-/
3c. Make a copy of movie.avi in the same folder; so now there will be two
videos
3d. Maintenance --> Rescan for image and videos in demo database
3e. In Thumbnail Viewer, select the two videos and drag them to the very start
of the Thumbnail view
3f. Then follow Step to Reproduce above from #3

If there is really no other way to click on a given touchpad, tap to click is
enabled by default in libinput. At least that is how it is supposed to be
according to the libinput developers, they do not necessarily have exhaustive
data on all the touchpad models out there, so yours might have to be added to
the list.

For everyone else, defaulting to tap to click is a bad idea because it is
redundant with the physical clicks and because it is prone to misclicks. (Tap
to click used to be enabled by default. I constantly ended up accidentally
clicking while just trying to move the cursor, or sometimes even while just
accidentally touching the touchpad while typing. So disabling that misfeature
was one of the first things I changed. So I was glad when it got finally
disabled by default.)

The configuration files are just hell. 
Today I reinstalled Akonadi, and it's super tedious to gather everything
together.
Apart from that, there are always leftovers from programs that are no longer
used.

How about a separation according groups and products?

SUMMARY
While scrolling pages in Chromium, there is occasional lag. However, when the
Plasma FPS widget is enabled, scrolling becomes smoother. I suspect this might
be related to GPU frequency. I've seen a similar bug report where this behavior
was observed, but it affected the smoothness of the entire Plasma environment.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Start plasma wayland session
2. Open chromium
3. Scroll pages

OBSERVED RESULT
Smooth scrolling

A little lagging occurs

happen is that they will all result in being unhidden.

Currently, when you start the app for the first time, toolbar items like
"Tools", and "Action" have no purpose, but they are still interactable. What
then happens is that if you click on them, nothing will happen. They should
instead be greyed out.

In KAddressBook, it appears to only be syncing the VCard `FN` property, and not
the `N` Property. The `FN`  property shouldb be what's used to display in the
list, and the `N` properties should be what's shown within the contact card for
extra detail.

What we are doing since this change is request permissions to have full access
to the storage, instead of requesting it folder by folder (since recently some
folders are not allowed accessing otherwise).

This permission doesn't appear in the regular list of app permissions in
Android, similar to the permission to access notifications it has its own menu.

However, we should detect it is missing and show a link in-app that opens the
screen where you can grant the permission. Maybe there's something broken and
this link doesn't show?

as long as "main" KWin is used for testing.

While I do appreciate the more verbose details in the tooltip view, while
culling images I would need more information at-a-glance. Moving the mouse and
trying to remember the info, and then moving the mouse again to compare info
with another item, and then moving the mouse again because part of the image is
obstructed by the actual tooltip is quite a tedious workflow. I'd much rather
stay at the keyboard (using shortcuts for Pick and Rating labels) and be able
to compare directly.

Hi. My name is Steven. I use a Galaxy Tab S8 Plus, I can screen record my
Krita crashing and I can run you through from setup to crashing and show
you each instance within an hour video. Would you like me to go ahead and
do that for you? I can have it to you quickly and promptly the moment you
send me a reply to this email and just let me know where you would like me
to upload it to so that the nightly Bill Developers may be able to correct
this problem as I love working in Krita but this crashing is just
ridiculous, lol. :-)

I can confirm. 

The display brightness slider within the battery and brightness applet has no
effect; however, adjusting the brightness level is possible by navigating to
system settings-->Power Management-->Energy Saving, adjusting the Screen
brightness level, and clicking Apply.

SUMMARY
Feature request: Show photograph properties (camera make/model, lens, focal
length, aperture, sensitivity) in the icon-view. 

The selection of which photograph properties would likely belong in the
Configure dialog, under Views, Icons tab.

The motivation for this feature is mainly to be more effective while culling
(rating, picks, tags) a recent imported set of items. Typically, I'd like to
differentiate a few similar shots by these properties as I am culling. I'd also
like to take the opportunity to refine my photographic technique by leaving
notes for myself about which camera settings I tried, and what result I
observed. This would be much quicker if I could see this essential information
with the icons instead of opening and closing the Properties and Captions
panels (because of limited screen space) on each photo as I go.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. View an album in thumbnails or preview mode.
2. See items in either the full view or the filmstrip at the top (in preview
mode).

OBSERVED RESULT
There is a limited set of properties visible.

EXPECTED RESULT
Photograph properties (such as camera, aperture, focal length, ISO, etc.)
visible under each icon.

Today I was copying an ISO image to a Ventoy-enabled USB drive (exfat).
It seems that the file transfer was cached by default, so the file transfer
dialog was closed after the file was cached.
After clicking the secure-remove button, Plasma showed me the message to not
unplug the device until the flush was done.

After 10 minutes (by setting) my computer went to sleep, and after resuming the
flush message was still showing. It would mean that the flush might not finish
prior to sleep.

It would be nice to have a feature to disable sleep while a cached file
transfer is still being done since file corruption might happen.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Transfer a file to a device with write cache enabled.
2. Wait for the computer to sleep (make sure to set an appropriate time
threshold so the sleep can occur while the flush is still going).
3. Resume the computer and check the flush dialog and/or file corruption.

OBSERVED RESULT
The computer goes to sleep but after resuming, the cache flush is still
ongoing.

EXPECTED RESULT
The computer goes to sleep only after the cache flush has ended.

2. Position mouse pointer left of the location bar and grab the slider.

The location bar moves regardless of the folders panel and stays there until
the location is changed.

Moving the location bar should move the folder pane also and vice versa.

I do have this from time to time to. When I restart my computer I don't see any
calendar in my KOrganizer but the Google Cal connection is still in the
settings. When I click reload it will show up again. 

I'm using a wireless connection all the time, so maybe the connection is not
available right away and it won't load a cached version? (just guessing here).

I'm using Plasma with hiDPI displays, so I have fractional scaling turned on.

When fractional scaling is on, plasma-workspace sets environment variable
QT_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTORS. For some reason this variable causes strange rendering
issues with Telegram, MegaSync and some other QT applications.

The only way to remove this variable is to patch startplasma-x11.cpp:

Writing XP* tags is another long story. Exiv2 can only read XP*, not write it.
Due to the text encoding by Microsoft. XP* tags should no longer be used in

these warnings occasionally too. They can be reproduced by running KDevelop
using the command line

"c++2a" C++ profile and "GCC" as Compiler for path on the project's Language
Support configuration page.

This is apparently missing implementation: CXType_Dependent is not handled in
plugins/clang/duchain/builder.cpp (in Visitor::makeType() and
Visitor::createType()). Unfortunately, I don't know how to add support for
dependent types.

The analysis is nice, but it misses the problem and is not the cause. We cannot
flatten JOIN queries if they are needed for processing. If it takes minutes to
tag 500 images without writing the metadata, then the problem lies elsewhere.
We need a log from the terminal of such a slow database operation when starting
digiKam on macOS in a terminal. It is important to set the Qt Debug variable
beforehand. The process for macOS is described here:

Do you have those set explicitly?

Unlike the bookmarks runner, those use the browser APIs to get the open
tabs/history. Meaning they are not related.

Could you try enabling debug output for the "Plasma Runner Bookmarks" category
in kdebugsettings and run KRunner on the commandline using "krunner --replace"?

Also, which version of Firefox do you have installed and how did you install
it?

I´m using digikam since a few years, with its multitude of functions it is a
very good management tool.

but the performance of the system placing the files on a synology ds 920+ (with
ssd cache), using the synology mariadb database and a 1GB LAN connection is
simply terrible. 
and this when i see that network transfers are miniuscule, the load of the nas
cpu is at about 7%, the write transfers on the nas are well below saturation
and the load on my macbookpro m2 (2023) is at about 10%.
setting new keywords for 500 pictures in the database takes minutes and this
when dfirect transfer to the files is disabled  so there should be only
database transfers.

- i already adjusted database settings to optimise database storage, caches and
so on.

when checking the recommendations of the mariadb-server there were some
suggestions mostly regarding file indexing and using indices when using "JOIN"
and so on.

i took some screen shots.
- too many joins without using indices (3/minute when less than 1/hour is
typical)
- too often first index table entry is read (27/h when less than 1/h is
typical)
- rate of reading of fixed positions too high (3.4 / second when less than 1/h
is typical)

all those problems are related to missing indices.

so my question is: 
is there any way to improve database performance over a LAN-connection as the
actual implementation seems to be very problematic by design.

I have tried;

Plasma integration Firefox addon (with all settings ticked)

also the only one)
restarting krunner
rebooting

I had found that other thread here, but that is not about the same issue;

The other issue was about Krita creating an empty palette file, but even that
isn't happening here; NO file is created here. Nothing happens.

When used non integer scaling, mouse cursor is more quickly then compared to
the X11 session. I don't know if this also relevant to the integer scale
factors, but with 1.5 scale it appears unusually fast. Is the speed multiplied
by the scale factor?

I suppose it would be very difficult to attach a backtrace when your main
storage is out of space and the save location can't be changed right now (will
be an option later). Could you go to System Settings -> Applications ->
Locations and change your Videos folder to something like a flash drive with
low storage space? After that, try to reproduce the bug and attach a backtrace
to this bug report. Make sure to read

and have debug symbols installed.

I'm using KDE Neon. The problem occurs after upgrading the kernel from 5.19
to 6.2. This occurs on the already old Redmi 4X. I have just connected a newer
Redmi Note 11S phone and it works properly, it does not drop the connection.
I'll have to live with this problem somehow. Thank you for your help :)

Missing option in Touchpad setting for Plasma 5.24.7

Hi Everyone,

This is a wishlist item. It came from a discussion in libinput's bug tracker at
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/libinput/libinput/-/issues/924. In the 924 bug
report, there is a HP laptop with touchpad, and I want to disable the touchpad
when a mouse is plugged into the machine.

The KDE wish is, we need a UI setting to disable the touchpad when the mouse is
plugged in. libinput supports the configuration, but the KDE setting for
Touchpad does not expose it.

For libinput, this is the [manual] X11 option of interest. Many thanks to
@satrmb for the help in tracking it down:

with this in etc/nixos/configuration, it does indeed restore things.
hardware.nvidia = {
nvidiaPersistenced = true;
powerManagement.enable = true;
}

it does not restore without powerManagement.enable = true; or with open = true;

Discord doesn't even crash every time system comes up from sleep now, wooh \o/

We need to know a little bit more information about the issue. Do you know the
distribution you're running? (It should be listed in KInfoCenter). More than
likely, this is a widespread issue for your card on Linux and has nothing to do
with KDE. We only handle the user interface bit of the networking stack.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Enable the "Fall Apart" Desktop Effect in Plasma Settings
2. Launch spectacle (through application launcher or print screen shortcut)
3. Press Rectangular Region

OBSERVED RESULT
The window shattering animation completes before the region select shows
But the spectacle window shattered from the animation is still included in the
region select
Proceeding to select a region with part of the spectacle window will capture
the spectacle window

EXPECTED RESULT
Region select shows everything without the spectacle window in the way
