[konsole] [Bug 474237] New: Word disappears with cursor on first word in vim on konsole with "Use the same attributes for whole word"

2023-09-06 Thread Raziman T V
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=474237

Bug ID: 474237
   Summary: Word disappears with cursor on first word in vim on
konsole with "Use the same attributes for whole word"
Classification: Applications
   Product: konsole
   Version: 23.08.0
  Platform: Archlinux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: konsole-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: razima...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 161451
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=161451&action=edit
Buggy version

SUMMARY
***
When the "Appearance→Complex Text Layout→Use the same attributes for whole
word" option is selected in konsole, something weird happens in vim: When the
cursor is on the first letter of a word, the rest of the word disappears. This
only happens when Appearance→Cursor→Shape is set to "Block", not if it is
"I-Beam" or "Underline".
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open konsole with a new profile
2. Settings->Edit Current Profile and check Appearance→Complex Text Layout→Use
the same attributes for whole word
3. Open vim without any user config with "vim -u NONE"
4. Type any word
5. Move cursor to the first letter of the word

OBSERVED RESULT
Only the first letter of the word is visible

EXPECTED RESULT
The whole word should be visible

[Elisa] [Bug 474236] New: Cannot launch Elisa on Debian 12

2023-09-06 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=474236

Bug ID: 474236
   Summary: Cannot launch Elisa on Debian 12
Classification: Applications
   Product: Elisa
   Version: 23.04.3
  Platform: Snap
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR

Hello!
I installed Debian 12 with i3 as a DE today coming from Manjaro KDE because it
beats hands down other apps.
I first installed it from the aptitude package manager and found it curious to
not be able to launch the app from dmenu
Then tried to launch it from the terminal and got this error message:
```
QObject: Cannot create children for a parent that is in a different thread.
(Parent is QApplication(0x7ffd28287d70), parent's thread is
QThread(0x558cc5c02640), current thread is QThread(0x558cc5c0fc80)
QObject::installEventFilter(): Cannot filter events for objects in a different
thread.
kf.kirigami: Failed to find a Kirigami platform plugin
kf.dbusaddons: DBus session bus not found. To circumvent this problem try the
following command (with bash):
export $(dbus-launch)
```

So I then removed it and installed from snap to get the same error message, so
I guess that something related to my distribution went wrong.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install Debian
2. Install Elisa via either Snap or Aptitude (apt)
3. Launch Elisa and see the crash right away

OBSERVED RESULT

The application crashed before it even launches the QTK gui app

EXPECTED RESULT

Elisa should launch gracefully, as my past KDE experience

[kwin] [Bug 412655] Tabbox uses wrong visualization when switching between Main and Alternative while holding a common Alt

2023-09-06 Thread RedBearAK
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=412655

RedBearAK  changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 Resolution|UNMAINTAINED|---
Version|5.16.5  |5.27.7
 Status|RESOLVED|REOPENED
 Ever confirmed|0   |1

--- Comment #6 from RedBearAK  ---
Changing reported version from 5.16.5 to latest (5.27.7 as of now). Reconfirmed
that the behavior is still present on Fedora 38 KDE spin, with Kwin 5.27.7.

Task switcher will not switch from using the main task switcher (example:
"Large Icons") to using the alternate task switcher (example: "Thumbnails"),
even when switching to using keyboard shortcuts that are no longer associated
with the main task switcher choice, unless you first let go of the modifier key
(Alt, typically).

After letting go of the modifier key (Alt) the alternate task switcher dialog
(such as "Thumbnails") will appear correctly when using the shortcuts
associated with the alternate task switcher settings.

If the main task switcher choice is "Large Icons", moving from Alt+Tab to
Alt+Grave will switch between windows of the same application, but the visual
switcher dialog will remain as "Large Icons", until the modifier key (Alt) is
released. No matter what the alternate task switcher option is set to.

Nothing about this bug has changed since the originally reported Kwin version.

Confirmed in both X11 and Wayland sessions.

The issue is also true in reverse. If you start with the shortcuts that bring
up the alternate task switcher, then move to using the shortcuts associated
with the main task switcher, the visualization choice in the dialog will remain
the alternate task switcher, inappropriately. So if switching windows within an
application has a task switcher of "Thumbnails", the task switcher dialog will
remain showing "Thumbnails" when moving to the application switching shortcuts,
unless the modifier (Alt) is released first.

Of course, but this is a fairly new development that we have not yet had time
to determine how to react to. The maintainer of that repo (as well as many
others that are widely used through the FOSS world) just up and archived them
all with no forewarning or transition plan.

Ultimately someone will probably end up forking them if Bastien doesn't
un-archive them.

To avoid hangs in virtual environments which don't suppport suspension, and

[kwin] [Bug 473734] Screen not restored after awakening from hibernate

2023-09-06 Thread Zamundaaa
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=473734

--- Comment #7 from Zamundaaa  ---
Sorry, it's been a busy week and I haven't been able to go through all my
emails yet. The most suspicious things in your log are
> [35707.959388] [drm] Fence fallback timer expired on ring sdma0
a bunch of times (which also happens once in your first log, so not necessarily
related) and
> [35707.977814] [drm:amdgpu_atombios_dp_link_train [amdgpu]] *ERROR* channel
> eq failed: 5 tries
> [35707.978425] [drm:amdgpu_atombios_dp_link_train [amdgpu]] *ERROR* channel
> eq failed
which does sound related. Link training is about creating a working connection
with your monitor, so if that doesn't work properly it could definitely cause
issues like you describe.

Please put `KWIN_DRM_NO_AMS=1` into /etc/environment, reboot and then check if
your workaround starts working again with that

[plasmashell] [Bug 473994] Application Launcher opens on wrong screen

(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #11)
> If you open the Add Widgets sidebar, there will be a little number in a
> circle in the corner of widgets that are active. So you can use that to see
> which widgets are active, and how many of them.

Hrm, that didn't really answer the question I asked but it did set me on the
right path to figuring the answer out...

So, from the looks of it, on hover over a widget the number of instances are
shown on the top left corner(if any actively instanced) and for installed third
party widgets on the top right there is a red line-art icon of a trash can(as
opposed to built-ins which don't show it, kinda wish some of them would be
uninstallable too since bloat, but that's neither here nor there).

Based on this it would seem that the Launcher in question was indeed installed
third party. As such the issue can be closed. But I would like to leave some
final thoughts first, if I may.

These elements being hidden under a on-hover flag seems like a rather bad idea
to me, and as I already mentioned in the passing I think it might be a good
idea to make as many of the default widgets as practically possible
uninstallable as well(I understand there are some that are bare minimum
necessary so as to not cripple the usability of the base system itself, so that
is not applicable to those). Which would mean that while this is a measure by
which to tell third party widgets apart for now, should some of the default
bundled ones ever hopefully become uninstallable it would likely be a good idea
to design a new indicator measure for the end user to instantly see and tell
apart which is a default one and which a third party widget.

Also, from what I vaguely understand the `get new widgets` sources widgets from
some third party source that the KDE project has no control over(or so I've
seen stated by others on myriad online forums) so as to assure quality, nor to
ensure they stay up to date for that matter so I'm inclined to say I'd like
to(not that I'm demanding anything tho, or even in a position to for that
matter, just signalling a single end-user opinion) see that removed perhaps
altogether if not replaced with a source that is directly under KDE projects
control.

[krita] [Bug 474235] New: Display profiles are applied inconsistently in multi monitor setup

2023-09-06 Thread Kampidh
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=474235

Bug ID: 474235
   Summary: Display profiles are applied inconsistently in multi
monitor setup
Classification: Applications
   Product: krita
   Version: git master (please specify the git hash!)
  Platform: Microsoft Windows
OS: Microsoft Windows
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: OpenGL Canvas

  Reporter: qamp...@hotmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 161450
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=161450&action=edit
Quick example of the bug

SUMMARY
In multi monitor setup with different color profiles, opening a file with
various methods will result in a color inconsistency. Eg: drag dropping from a
windows explorer or right click -> Open with -> Krita will result in a wrong
display profile being applied. While directly opening from Krita in Recent
Images will result in a correct display profile being applied. (See attached
video for details)

Reproducible in 5.2.0 beta and current git master
e1a13f9ad45f072df4fe6fef5a9eba851bd47216

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In multi monitor setup, use different profiles for each screen
2. Put Krita in one of the screen
2. Open image from windows explorer using either drag and drop or right click
-> Open with -> Krita
3. Open the same image directly from krita using File -> Open or Recent Images

OBSERVED RESULT
The image will rendered differently as if the display profiles are incorrectly
assigned

EXPECTED RESULT
The image is rendered consistently across different method of opening files

[dolphin] [Bug 447119] Summary: Dolphin/Baloo search with symlinks

cybea  changed:

 CC||kde-b...@cyborgsociety.org

--- Comment #18 from cybea  ---
It would be really great if this could be fixed (especially case 1a) since
baloo search feels broken if there are files you know of but nothing is
displayed. Doing a "dolphin filenamesearch" as a fallback could be considered
as well.
Maybe anyone can increase the importance of this bug?

(To me this looks like many bugs and having only one bug report could make
tracking and prioritizing harder. But I appreciate having this overview.)

That's how it already worked in Plasma 5 (on 5.27.7 at least); any changes
would be written to disk immediately.
It was apparently changed in Plasma 6, either intentionally or not, but
curiously *only for pinned task manager items and nothing else* as far as I can
tell, which seems quite odd.

Good investigation. That seems likely, as my Plasmashell has started to crash
on quit too and I can reproduce the bug. That will be fixed with
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kwayland-integration/-/merge_requests/48 though,
which should be sufficient to fix this specific issue.

However let's broaden the topic of this bug report a bit to request that
configs get saved before quit so we canharden Plasmashell a bit against
crashes, power loss, etc.

So our code says this:

Plasmoid.status: {
if (activeJobsFilterModel.activeCount > 0) {
return PlasmaCore.Types.ActiveStatus;
} else if (printersModel.count > 0 || serverUnavailable) {
return PlasmaCore.Types.PassiveStatus;
} else {
return PlasmaCore.Types.HiddenStatus;
}
}

Which means it thinks there's at least one active job, and clearly that's wrong
for you.

...Either that, or you've got your System Tray set up to make the Printers
applet always visible. Can you go check that first?

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=474016

--- Comment #3 from Nate Graham  ---
Unfortunately it means what it says: that the project is archived, and so the
bug is unlikely to ever be fixed at the power-profiles-daemon level unless the
project is un-archived and someone resumes work on it. So we need to hope for
that, or else that it's a kerne bug which someone will fix.

Feel free to open new bug reports about other issues, though.

My apologies, I gave the wrong github issue link for the parallel download
ticket there: https://github.com/flatpak/flatpak/issues/5231

Did I understand correctly however that the parallel queuing seems to be
happening on the KDE Discover side, and isn't some inherent flatpak backend
feature? In that case it would make sense for me to close the flatpak issue.

Looks like while changes like adding and removing widgets are immediately
written to .config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc, changes to the
pinned launchers in the task manager are now only written when plasmashell
exits, and does so "gracefully"?
When I run plasmashell --replace, the changes are saved and kept, but if I
not-so-gently kill either plasmashell or KWin, the changes are not saved.
When shutting down / logging out, plasmashell behaves as if KWin died,
according to the journal (this is the case on 5.27 too):
plasmashell[3262]: The Wayland connection broke. Did the Wayland compositor
die?

[Discover] [Bug 474231] New: "Too many open files" when trying to update a large number of refs

2023-09-06 Thread Alberto Garcia
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=474231

Bug ID: 474231
   Summary: "Too many open files" when trying to update a large
number of refs
Classification: Applications
   Product: Discover
   Version: 5.27.5
  Platform: Archlinux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Flatpak Backend
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: be...@igalia.com
CC: aleix...@kde.org, jgrul...@redhat.com,
trav...@redhat.com
  Target Milestone: ---

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have a Flatpak installation with ~50 pending updates
2. Open Discover, select "Update" and click "Update all"

OBSERVED RESULT
The application crashes. The exact stack trace and journal messages are
different each time, but they are all variations of "Too many open files":

plasma-discover[3235]: Creating pipes for GWakeup: Too many open files
plasma-discover[4090]: Error spawning revokefs-fuse: Too many open files
plasma-discover[3518]: Cannot create repo on revokefs mountpoint
/var/tmp/flatpak-cache-T1LSA2/org.gnome.Platform.Locale-SQUKA2: opening repo:
While checking parent repository '/var/lib/flatpak/repo': opening repo:
opendir(tmp): Too many open files

There is also a large number of /usr/lib/revokefs-fuse processes running.

EXPECTED RESULT
All refs are updated correctly.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.107.0
Qt Version: 5.19.5

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Having a look at the discover Flatpak backend I see that
FlatpakBackend::installApplication() is called in a loop for every application
that needs to be updated:

https://invent.kde.org/plasma/discover/-/blob/v5.27.5/libdiscover/resources/StandardBackendUpdater.cpp?ref_type=tags#L65

Each one of these creates a new FlatpakJobTransaction, each with its own
FlatpakTransactionThread which in turn has its own FlatpakTransaction object:

https://invent.kde.org/plasma/discover/-/blob/v5.27.5/libdiscover/backends/FlatpakBackend/FlatpakTransactionThread.cpp?ref_type=tags#L101

In other words, instead of creating one FlatpakTransaction and putting all refs
in it it creates one transaction per ref and (as far as I can see) runs them
all in parallel. I haven't confirmed it yet but I suspect that the problem is
related to this.

call activateTaskAtIndex on the proper object

now the appletinterface is the plasmoid root object and is the one which
provides the activateTaskAtIndex function, so don't iterate on its
children anymore
