+1 been driving my crazy for months. Today I tried some workaround. This kinda
works (https://github.com/acristoffers/kwin-rectangle) but it is also not as
good as the previous behavior. I just want to snap windows to half my
screen even if I previously manually resized a window. I am going nuts
here. I am to the point that I really need to train myself to NEVER resize a
window, which is sad because occasionally you do want a window larger than
half. I miss the old functionality so very much.

[kwin] [Bug 465937] Split does not reset to its original value once "adjacent quick-tiled windows" configuration ceases to exist

2023-09-16 Thread Josh
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465937

I also dread accidentally triggering this feature.

If I trigger it I have to close all windows, open four Konsole windows in each
corner of the screen and use the row/column indicator in each Konsole window to
ensure they're all 50% screen height and 50% screen width.

I once found the configuration file where the dynamic tiling is stored,
deleting that file and rebooting reverted the split back to 50/50. I can't
remember which file it was though.

Every time it happens I think about dumping KDE, not because this is a bad idea
just that it has been so badly implemented.

KDE used to be famous for configuration and customisation then we get this
invisible feature (I don't even know what it's called!).

I am closing this as fixed since upstream has merged the fix and I am sure this
will be picked up by neon once it is released.

For now, this is the workaround (amend the line for other arches than amd64):

sudo true && ls -1 /var/lib/apt/lists/*_Components-amd64.yml.gz | sudo xargs -r
ln -s -t /var/lib/swcatalog/yaml/

Screenshot on openSUSE 15.4

On openSUSE 15.4 (KDE 5.90.0, Qt 5.15.2) the problem with a build from git
master branch does not occur, so I assume this is a problem with a 3rdparty
component (KDE, Qt or other) on KDE Neon.

With different valgrind options I got different valgrind report, mainly error

I can also reproduce this error with the visual counter misbehaving, however
the break time still completed despite this.
And the behavior is only reproducible in Wayland.

Would you be able to get the logs from Firefox and Plasma when they crashed? It

I've also been experiencing this recently. I am using Pipewire and my config
includes a virtual surround sound sink for my headphones. The issue has only
been occuring since this virtual sink was added. I am not sure what defines the
"preferred sink", however I can note that all the devices it chooses to
fallback to are connected via USB (Headphones, speakers) or is the virtual sink
I have created. Also, those devices are the only devices I actively select to
use as the default sink.

Git commit 5c038e422c8fe2fcc14ddca2f8ec8d8c6fbca592 by Alexander Semke.
Committed on 16/09/2023 at 15:09.
Pushed by asemke into branch 'master'.

[Julia] removed the dependency on Julia's executable and set the recommended
version to the current LTS version 1.6.7.

We don't communicate via CLI with julia's executable and load the interpreter
into Cantor's runtime in the "server" directly and similarly to how it's
done also for Python and R. cantor_juliabackend.so and and
cantor_juliaserverjulia
are linked to julia's libraries. We nowhere depend on the executable.
Allowing the user to specify the path to the executable and loading the
libraries
from there made some edge cases possible but introduced additional complexity
in the code and such severe limitation as not being able to work with symlinks
in the PATH. So, we remove this complexity and limitations now and the more
important
option to work with different packages and version of Python, R and Julia will
be
solved in future differently.

This happened again. It's happened twice in the last two days. I actually saw
it happen this time. I don't know if this is a coincidence or not, but it
happened at exactly the same time a notification popped up saying there was a
new e-mail.

[valgrind] [Bug 474443] run valgrind with --leak-check=full and --show-leak-kinds=all or without the 2 leak options enfluence error summary.

2023-09-16 Thread Paul Floyd
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=474443

Not directly relevant, I work for Siemens EDA and I used to work for Synopsys.

So my facetious answer is - use QuestaSim :-)

Just some comments on the logs to start with.

Lots of the errors refer to obfuscated names used by VCS, so it's hard to tell
where the problem is.

Something is trying to close files (and failing):

==98899==at 0xC2317A0: __close_nocancel (in /usr/lib64/libpthread-2.17.so)
==98899==by 0x7FBC153: SNPSle_417a3676075ec189542ebd57460c18ac (in
/datacenter/tools/synopsys/vcs-mx/O-2018.09-SP2/linux64/lib/libvcsnew.so)

Errors like

==98899== Syscall param write(buf) points to unaddressable byte(s)
==98899== Syscall param msync(start) points to uninitialised byte(s)

could be harmless. Valgrind can't tell when data structures have holes or
padding.

Do you get the same result if you use --errors-for-leak-kinds=none?

My suspicion is that when you have leak detection on the leak count up to the
execve() is getting added to the error count.

[ark] [Bug 474593] New: Previewing a file in Ark always tries to open with KDE Connect

2023-09-16 Thread omano

Bug ID: 474593
Summary: Previewing a file in Ark always tries to open with KDE
Connect
Classification: Applications
   Product: ark
   Version: 23.08.1
  Platform: Manjaro
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal

KDE Connect opening when previewing a file

SUMMARY
***
Every time I try to preview a file in Ark, it tries to open it with KDE Connect
on connected device, even if no device connected, even when the file type is
known and already associated with another program (plain text files, shell
script, whatever the file type is, or if I manually force again the file
association)
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open an archive
2. Try to preview a file in Ark
3. See the KDE Connect URL handler opening asking you to open the file on
associated device.

OBSERVED RESULT
Ark doesn't preview the file with the associated program, like Kate for a plain
text file for example, it opens KDE Connect

EXPECTED RESULT
It previews the file either with a default proper preview program, most likely
a text editor (as we generally don't try to preview a compiled binary) or with
the associated program for that file type.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Manjaro KDE
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.8
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.110.0
Qt Version: 5.15.10

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This behavior was not always like that. when I was previewing text file,
PKGBUILD, shell script, it was opening in Kate, or some internal preview tool
looking like Kate/Kwrite

[Spectacle] [Bug 474594] New: Please create Screenshots in ~/Pictures/Screenshots and Screencasts in ~/Videos/Screencasts

2023-09-16 Thread Neal Gompa
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=474594

Bug ID: 474594
Summary: Please create Screenshots in ~/Pictures/Screenshots
and Screencasts in ~/Videos/Screencasts
Classification: Applications
   Product: Spectacle
   Version: 23.04.3
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: noaha...@gmail.com
  Reporter: ngomp...@gmail.com
CC: k...@david-redondo.de
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Currently Spectacle creates screenshots by default in ~/Pictures and
screencasts in ~/Videos.

This is messy and annoying, especially if you create a lot of them. I would
prefer us to default to putting them in the appropriate subfolders
(~/Pictures/Screenshots for screenshots and ~/Videos/Screencasts for
screencasts).

Can we please change the default to do this (and create the directory if it
doesn't already exist)?

I know that this was previously asked in bug 448325, and elected to create a
new bug because I'm covering both screenshots and screencasts in this bug.

And before it's mentioned that it's configurable, at least the screencast
folder is not configurable (nor are there any settings for screencast
recordings like there are for screenshots).

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Fedora Linux 38 (KDE Plasma)
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.7
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.109.0
Qt Version: 5.15.10

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
GNOME already does it this way and has since at least the change to the
integrated screenshot/screencast experience in GNOME Shell in GNOME 42. Budgie
intends to do the same thing.

However, I still think there must be a change or bug in the KDE or Qt packages

Hello and thanks for reporting those translation issues.
Thanks for providing your propositions, I implemented.
All are fixed accordingly and updated files committed on the KDE Server.

Last point concerning - your side note:
I am not sure about these "bosses de chameaux". In French, "camel case" is just
"le camel case" or "notation camel case".

Currently, I haven't a better proposition for the moment.
Thanks for your support and, in case, you are welcome in the KDE FR translation
 team.
Regards. Xavier

According to wikipedia (https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camel_case):
> En français, plusieurs mots ont aussi été créés pour désigner cette notation
> : mot wiki, wiki mot, chat mot. L'OQLF recommande notation chameau, casse
> (de) chameau ou casse mixte.

I would go with "notation chameau" if we don't want to keep "camel case" like
this.

[plasmashell] [Bug 474597] New: Visual bug in right-click (pop-up) menu in multi-monitor setup

2023-09-16 Thread Nicolas
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=474597

Bug ID: 474597
Summary: Visual bug in right-click (pop-up) menu in
multi-monitor setup
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.27.8
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: sk1es@gmail.com
CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Target Milestone: 1.0

Created attachment 161660
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=161660&action=edit
clear example of a visual bug in the popup menu

SUMMARY
I have 2 monitors - primary 2560x1600 with 150% scale and second 1920x1080 with
100% scale. The second monitor is set in the settings to the right of the main
monitor. If you call a pop-up menu on the second monitor by right-clicking on
an empty space on the desktop or somewhere on the taskbar, the frame of this
window can become transparent when the mouse cursor approaches it. Or all
buttons may disappear and be displayed only when the mouse cursor is over them.
If I put the second monitor in settings to the left of the main monitor - the
same problem will occur on the main monitor. I created a new user and did the
steps from "STEPS TO REPRODUCE" there but it didn't fix the bug. I also tried
to install the latest stable KDE Neon and got the same problem there.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use Wayland session
2. Set scale of primary monitor to 150%
3. Connect second monitor
4. Place second monitor the left of the main monitor in the settings
5. Set scale of second monitor to 100%
6. Right-click on an empty space on the desktop of the left monitor and pull
the mouse down on the menu that pops up

OBSERVED RESULT
Buttons in popup menu disappear and appear only when mouse cursor is pointing
them. Sometimes the buttons don't disappear, but then the frame of the popup
menu becomes transparent when the cursor approaches them

EXPECTED RESULT
Both frames and buttons must be visible until the popup menu loses focus

I'm not a programmer, but I found a file
https://invent.kde.org/neon/neon/settings/-/blob/Neon/unstable/debian/neon-settings-2.postinst
which is the postinstall script for neon-settings-2, which I'm guessing is
responsible for setting-up Neon. I'm not sure, but would the fix for this bug
be as simple as adding xdg-user-dirs-update somewhere in that file, or is that
the wrong place for that?

[KDE Itinerary] [Bug 474599] New: Issue with Importing Train Tickets into Connections in KDE Itinerary

2023-09-16 Thread reportthebug
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=474599

Bug ID: 474599
Summary: Issue with Importing Train Tickets into Connections in
KDE Itinerary
Classification: Applications
   Product: KDE Itinerary
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Android
OS: Android 12.x
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: vkra...@kde.org
  Reporter: chris.seife...@onenetbeyond.org
  Target Milestone: ---

When importing a train ticket via a QR code or manual input and then searching
for and selecting a connection, the ticket is not automatically linked to the
connection. This issue persists even when selecting a connection and then
importing the ticket. Additionally, if the itinerary has multiple changes or
trains, the imported ticket is located under each connection, requiring users
to scroll down to locate and manage the ticket.

Steps to Reproduce:

Open KDE Itinerary.
Import a train ticket using a QR code, manual input, or by selecting a ticket
from the list.
Search for and select a connection related to the imported ticket.
Observe that the ticket is not automatically linked to the connection.
Note that the ticket is located under each connection with multiple changes or
trains, necessitating scrolling to find and manage the ticket.
Expected Behavior:

The train ticket should be automatically linked to the selected connection,
ensuring proper organization and management of travel itineraries.

It would be nice if you could fix this issue to automatically link imported
tickets to their corresponding connections, improving the user experience and
overall functionality of KDE Itinerary. Fixing this issue will make it easier
to seamlessly organise and manage itineraries with multiple connections or
trains.

Thank you very much for your effort in the app :)

Good question. So you're saying is on the same Ubuntu version in a Gnome

Gnome is using their own system, gnome-online-accounts, not signon-ui.

On the same Ubuntu version in a Gnome session. That's right.

Ok. But Gnome's system does'n need updates from Ubuntu. It's working now. And
how can we then suppose that the problem is in Ubuntu?

The problem in Ubuntu is that they ship an old and broken version of the thing
that KDE uses to handle accounts (signon-ui). If Gnome does not use that but
their own system, then they are not affected by the bug, even on the same
system. It might be possible to do something similar as Gnome does in KDE, but
that will take some time. It would still be preferable if Ubuntu decided to
ship the version of signon-ui in which the problem is already fixed.

More or less understandable... I would just like to see my Google Drive mounted
in the file system. This is important for my work. So I'll try to find another
way. After all, I like KDE more than Gnome.)

Yes, I can understand that. I'll look into how feasible it is for us to switch
to a different method, while we wait for distributions to hopefully pick up our
suggestion to update the packages.

Right, that was not very thoroughly thought through by me :) Sorry.

You can turn on logs persistently (without having to restart powerdevil) with

> echo "org.kde.powerdevil=true" >> ~/.config/QtProject/qtlogging.ini

And then get the output even after rebooting using

> journalctl --user-unit plasma-powerdevil --since="5 min ago"

[kdeconnect] [Bug 474601] New: Make KDE Connect an independent project

2023-09-16 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=474601

Bug ID: 474601
Summary: Make KDE Connect an independent project
Classification: Applications
   Product: kdeconnect
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: All
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: common
  Assignee: albertv...@gmail.com
  Reporter: carld...@outlook.com
CC: andrew.g.r.hol...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Could we make KDE Connect an independent project and rename it to e.g. Linux
Connect? KDE Connect is amazing software which all Linux users needs (including
non-KDE users), so why it have to be only for KDE? Yeah there is ports like
GSConnect, but it's still just KDE Connect... You e.g. have to install KDE
Connect to your phone.

I think KDE Connect backend and mobile apps should be universal for Linux. On
top of this backend, everyone can then create their own frontends.

Like this:

Workstation:
connectd
   UIs:
  CLI:
 connect-cli
  GUI:
 KDE Connect
 GNOME Connect
 Cosmic Connect
 and so on
Mobile:
Connect

What I meant was, it won't take effect immediately, but an ordinary system
restart without having to kill and restart powerdevil on the command line will
do.

[kdenlive] [Bug 474564] Inserting and removing time operations are very slow in a long project

2023-09-16 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=474564

Console output during the delay consists of lots of entries like this (about 1
to 3 seconds between each):

warp LENGTH 493
Reusing timewarp producer!
warp LENGTH 360
Reusing timewarp producer!
warp LENGTH 360

And this at the end when the program becomes responsive again:

 DURATION FOR TIMELINE MODE: 540039 = 540015
::: UPDATING MAIN TIMELINE DURATION: 540039

I've also noticed that Insert Time (all tracks) sometimes (randomly?) inserts
the time before the beginning of the clip to the left of the playhead, rather
than where the playhead is located (which is at the joint between two clips).

I'm using kdenlive.AppImage also.

AppImage apps need `libfcitxplatforminputcontextplugin.so` to work with fcitx
IME.

So please include that file into kdenlive.AppImage
`squashfs-root/usr/plugins/platforminputcontexts`. Thanks ~
