--- Comment #8 from Martin Tlustos  ---
Well, Google is your friend, so I found how to attach gdb to the running
Xwayland process.
But when having gdb attached, Xwayland does not crash when starting system
monitor. I tried it from the panel and also from konsole.
But after detaching gdb from Xwayland, it crashed immediately.
Then, when starting system monitor while gdb isn't attached, it will crash
again.

I looked whether I could somehow create a backtrace after Xwayland crashed, and
found coredumpctl, so I tried this. I will attach the output of both a direct
crash after launching system monitor and also the crash after detaching gdb.

[kate] [Bug 474754] New: Selecting files with Ctrl, Shift+Click in Git sidebar shouldn't open diff

2023-09-20 Thread Grósz Dániel
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=474754

Bug ID: 474754
   Summary: Selecting files with Ctrl, Shift+Click in Git sidebar
shouldn't open diff
Classification: Applications
   Product: kate
   Version: 23.08.0
  Platform: openSUSE
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kwrite-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: groszdaniel...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Selecting multiple files in the Git sidebar with Ctrl+Click is useful to e.g.
stage them all using the context menu. However, it's currently inconvenient
because a click also executes the configured single click action (Show Diff by
default) even if Ctrl or Shift is pressed.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In the Git sidebar, Ctrl+Click or Shift+Click on a file.

OBSERVED RESULT
It becomes selected (or deselected if it's already selected, and in the case of
Shift+Click some other files become selected), and the single click action is
performed on the file clicked.

EXPECTED RESULT
The selection is changed, but the single click action isn't performed.

Qt Version: 5.15.10

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I have used KDE for years in my laptop and I've always had an issue when typing
fast I will get repeated keys randomly. I managed to "fix" this issue by making
a custom script that will modify xkbset and allow me to set Bounce Keys to
20ms. However, xkbset does not work in Wayland. I tried activating the Bounce
keys setting under accessibility but no matter what ms I write it doesn't
filter the repeat key. This makes KDE very hard to use specially for coding.
I've had the same issue in Kuubuntu 23.04.

First do this:

ls -la /sys/class/power_supply/

... and you'll see something differing from CMB0. In my case, I see ACAD and
BAT1. I substitute BAT1 for CMB0 in your case.

[kdevelop] [Bug 474749] New: KDevelop crashes when adding wxWidgets

2023-09-20 Thread Bruno Cabral
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=474749

Bug ID: 474749
   Summary: KDevelop crashes when adding wxWidgets
Classification: Applications
   Product: kdevelop
   Version: 5.12.230801
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Language Support: CPP (Clang-based)
  Assignee: kdevelop-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: cabral@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 161765
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=161765=edit
main.cpp with #include wx.h and CMakeLists.txt with wxWidgets package
configured

Have wxWidgets installed.
```
$ wx-config --cxxflags --libs
-I/usr/lib/wx/include/gtk3-unicode-3.2 -I/usr/include/wx-3.2 -DWXUSINGDLL
-D__WXGTK3__ -D__WXGTK__ -pthread
-pthread -lwx_gtk3u_xrc-3.2 -lwx_gtk3u_html-3.2 -lwx_gtk3u_qa-3.2
-lwx_gtk3u_core-3.2 -lwx_baseu_xml-3.2 -lwx_baseu_net-3.2 -lwx_baseu-3.2
```

Create a new project from template "Terminal" (hello world with cmake).

Add to main.cpp the widgets header
```
#include
```
Add wxWidgets package to the CMakeLists.txt
```
find_package(wxWidgets REQUIRED)
include(${wxWidgets_USE_FILE})
```

Saving CMakeLists.txt trigger KDevelop to start cmake reconfiguration and
during the "Background parser", KDevelop crashes.

If one removes the `#include`, the reconfiguration does not crash, but adding
it back and reconfiguring will crash.
If one has the `#include`, but not the `find_package()` and reconfigures,
KDevelop does not crash.

Only when both are present is that KDevelop crashes, and only during
auto-reconfigure (the crash happens during the "Background parser").

It also crashes if the CMakeLists.txt uses `wx-config`, but as before, only if
there is `#include` in the code.

```
# wx-config-qt or wx-config
execute_process(COMMAND wx-config-qt --cxxflags
RESULT_VARIABLE CMD_RES
OUTPUT_VARIABLE wx_CFLAGS
ERROR_VARIABLE ERR_VAR
OUTPUT_STRIP_TRAILING_WHITESPACE)
separate_arguments(wx_CFLAGS)
message("wx_CFLAGS ${wx_CFLAGS}")
# wx-config-qt or wx-config
execute_process(COMMAND wx-config-qt --libs
RESULT_VARIABLE CMD_RES
OUTPUT_VARIABLE wx_LIBS
ERROR_VARIABLE ERR_VAR
OUTPUT_STRIP_TRAILING_WHITESPACE)
message("wx_LIBS ${wx_LIBS}")
target_compile_options(${PROJECT_NAME} PUBLIC ${wx_CFLAGS})
target_link_libraries(${PROJECT_NAME} ${wx_LIBS})
```

Tested on Ubuntu and Biglinux (Manjaro).
Tested with wxWidgets-qt and wxWidgets-gtk3.
```
$ wx-config-qt --cxxflags --libs
-I/usr/lib/wx/include/qt-unicode-3.2 -I/usr/include/wx-3.2 -DWXUSINGDLL
-D__WXQT__ -DQT_CORE_LIB -DQT_WIDGETS_LIB -DQT_GUI_LIB -DQT_CORE_LIB
-DQT_GUI_LIB -DQT_CORE_LIB -DQT_OPENGL_LIB -DQT_WIDGETS_LIB -DQT_GUI_LIB
-DQT_CORE_LIB -DQT_TESTLIB_LIB -DQT_CORE_LIB -pthread
-pthread -lwx_qtu_xrc-3.2 -lwx_qtu_html-3.2 -lwx_qtu_qa-3.2 -lwx_qtu_core-3.2
-lwx_baseu_xml-3.2 -lwx_baseu_net-3.2 -lwx_baseu-3.2
```

Building from the command line it compiles fine.

--- Comment #7 from Dan Robinson  ---
I had the screen set to lock when I was testing it, and I don't think it ever
occurred to me to test without a lock set.

I want to say it is only with the screen locked because I think when I just
changed the DPMS timer I didn't notice it.

Not in front of my laptop right now but I can try to verify on 5.27. by this weekend at the latest.

Hi Nate,

Thank you for the reply.
I believe it is a monitor issue. The problem only occurs when one specific
monitor is not used for the desktop but is still connected to the computer.
I did try your suggestion and it did not resolve the issue (since it is
most likely a hardware problem).

Your efforts with KDE Neon are appreciated - it's a great distro!

Best regards,

Gregg

[xdg-desktop-portal-kde] [Bug 474746] New: All Gnome apps fonts are rendered without anti-aliasing

2023-09-20 Thread Mau
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=474746

Bug ID: 474746
   Summary: All Gnome apps fonts are rendered without
anti-aliasing
Classification: Plasma
   Product: xdg-desktop-portal-kde
   Version: 5.27.8
  Platform: Debian testing
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: mav...@gmail.com
CC: aleix...@kde.org, jgrul...@redhat.com, n...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Since xdg-desktop-portal-kde v5.27.8 in Wayland sessions all GTK3 applications
have ugly fonts without anti-aliasing and badly scaled; when launched in the
Gnome DE, the same applications' fonts look perfect.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. launch startplasma-wayland
2. open a GTK3 app such as Unison or Evolution

OBSERVED RESULT
Fonts in the GTK3 app appear badly scaled and not anti-aliased at all.

EXPECTED RESULT
Fonts should appear smooth, correctly anti-aliased and well scaled.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Debian up-to-date Testing
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.8
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.107.0
Qt Version: 5.15.10

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I found 3 possible solutions:
- switch to Plasma/X11: this is a Wayland-specific issue
- revert to xdg-desktop-portal-kde v5.27.7
- in the "[preferred]" group in the
/usr/share/xdg-desktop-portal/kde-portals.conf file, change "default" key's
value
  from "kde" to "kde;gtk;"

Thanks

made the shortcuts editor automatically hide the columns for global shortcuts
when there aren't any. But it didn't do the same thing in reverse. We could
feasibly do that too.

Another option is manually specifying the "only show global shortcuts" mode in
all the KWin effects individually. But I prefer the automatic thing. I'll work
on that.

Git commit c69679343b9dd60745432dff23c8af693e21f847 by Nate Graham.
Committed on 20/09/2023 at 22:46.
Pushed by ngraham into branch 'master'.

applets/keyboardlayout: give standalone version a tooltip

When in the System Tray, this applet gets a tooltip drawn for it
automatically by the System Tray contaninment. But when it's a
standalone widget, it needs to do this itself, since it doesn't use the
default CompactRepresentation which provides one automatically.

the key repetition delay. Saves one keypress. :)

[Powerdevil] [Bug 450551] Battery charge limit is not preserved after reboot on many laptops that support charge limits; need to write it on every boot

So #17 is a systemd service that run this command:
echo 75 > /sys/class/power_supply/CMB0/charge_control_end_threshold

but when I run it as root I get:
bash: echo: write error: Invalid argument

so it doesn't seem to be writable for me, somehow KDE knows how to write to it
because I can set it in the GUI but after a reboot its back to 100%. I would
like to know how KDE writes to this special file.

[kdevelop] [Bug 474743] New: Crash on C++11-style struct initializer on template class?

2023-09-20 Thread Daniel Santos
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=474743

Bug ID: 474743
   Summary: Crash on C++11-style struct initializer on template
class?
Classification: Applications
   Product: kdevelop
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Compiled Sources
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Keywords: drkonqi
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kdevelop-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: daniel.san...@pobox.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Application: kdevelop (5.10.221200 (22.12.0))
 (Compiled from sources)
Qt Version: 5.15.8
Frameworks Version: 5.102.0
Operating System: Linux 5.15.80-gentoo x86_64
Windowing System: X11
Distribution: "Gentoo Linux"
DrKonqi: 5.26.5 [KCrashBackend]

-- Information about the crash:
I was running with `KDEV_CLANG_DISPLAY_DIAGS=1 CLEAR_DUCHAIN_DIR=1 kdevelop`,
but I sadly saw no output prior to the crash. I was about to add a template
class and it crashed after I typed `template` and which applied to
the class below, as I hadn't had a chance to type the new class yet.

struct field : public blobmsg_policy {
ptrdiff_t off;
field(const char *name, enum blobmsg_type type, ptrdiff_t off)
: blobmsg_policy{.name = name, .type = type}
, off(off)
{}
virtual ~field();

int read(void *dest, struct blob_attr *tb) const;
int write(const void *src, struct blob_attr *tb)  const;
};

The crash can be reproduced every time.

[kwin] [Bug 474730] Window placement "Centered" doesn't work correctly

2023-09-20 Thread Nate Graham
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=474730

--- Comment #3 from Nate Graham  ---
If you're referring to the logic used to justify this change in
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kwin/-/commit/6b949cac02c5a7216bb07b55c347194647030307,
let me quote the full paragraph for context:

> As a result, I commonly see Plasma users open windows and then
> immediately, reflexively grab the window's titlebar and drag it to the
> center of the screen. I have seen my wife do this. I have seen every
> YouTube reviewer of Plasma do this. I have even see fellow KDE
> developers at sprints do this. It seems like quite a common impulse
> to want a newly-opened window to appear in the center of the screen,
> which is where the user is likely to already be looking.

The feature does not fight with windows that set their own position. On X11,
such windows override the KWin window positioning behavior, which is only
invoked when the windows does not set its own position. On Wayland, windows
cannot set their own positions and KWin is always in charge, so again, no
fighting with one another.

If the cascading behavior causes windows to be cascaded when they would overlap
with windows occupying the same location that are minimized, that's a bug that
we should fix, rather than intentional behavior. But I can't reproduce it on
Plasma 6 Wayland.

Ooops I have managed to miss this one...

What backend are you using? sane-airscan? or is there also some USB backend?

if it is sane-airscan you could start Skanlite with sane debugging enabled

I'm not 100% sure about this backend's debugging, but it is usually something
like

"SANE_DEBUG_=[0-255] skanlite"

This page probably has more data on debugging:

(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #1)
> This is indeed intentional. If you open two of the same size windows when

I know. And you added it, because your wife got used to it from using MacOS and
that's why you are personally attached to this feature. (This is meant as a
non-emotional statement of the current situation and not as an insult. Don't
get me wrong here.)

Still the name is missleading. I would expect the name to open all windows
centered. And minimized windows aren't taken into account at all (this could be
intentional, but defeats the logic of cascading windows with the same size).
And it fights with some applications that set their own window position, but
could be a bug on their side not kwin. (Like konsole apparently).

Agreed. We could include the F keys into the behavior controlled by option 2.
