[kscreenlocker] [Bug 476703] New: User/profile picture no longer appears in the lock screen

2023-11-07 Thread Prajna Sariputra
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=476703

Bug ID: 476703
Summary: User/profile picture no longer appears in the lock
screen
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kscreenlocker
   Version: git-master
  Platform: Compiled Sources
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: putr...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Just recompiled Plasma 6 a couple of hours or so ago, and my user/profile
picture no longer appears in the lock screen, instead the generic user icon is
shown. It still shows up fine in SDDM (from the Arch repos), Kickoff, the
logout screen as well as the Users KCM.

I see this error message in the logs:

> qrc:/org/kde/breeze/components/UserDelegate.qml:70:9: QML QQuickImage: Cannot
> open: qrc:/var/lib/AccountsService/icons/m7

Changing that QML file so it adds the "file://" prefix fixes the lock screen,
but naturally breaks the logout screen instead.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Compile and run a Plasma 6 session
2. Set a user/profile picture (if one isn't already set)
3. Lock the screen
4. Move the mouse

OBSERVED RESULT
The user/profile picture shown is just the generic user icon.

EXPECTED RESULT
The selected user/profile picture from step 2 should be shown.

[valgrind] [Bug 476553] RPM build of Valgrind 3.22.0 fails under RHEL8

2023-11-07 Thread Peter Klotz
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=476553

Hi Mark

Thanks, your suggestion brought me a lot closer to building the RPM.
However at the end I got messages about unpackaged files:

> Checking for unpackaged file(s): /usr/lib/rpm/check-files
> /home/user/rpmbuild/BUILDROOT/valgrind-3.22.0.x86_64

To fix those, another patch was needed:

Nice Find Edward, I will check the same once I reach back home and this could
potentially explain why the second user is working for me as i don't have any
app there with accessibility access.
Ok while posting this I tested this on my mi11t pro which has never crashed
ever, and right after giving accessibility access, right on the money krita
crashed.

I can confirm that this finding is correct. Giving access to accessibility
crashes Krita as per my method (add layers, group them, and select one layer)

Brawo Edward.

I will also try to take Logcat on mobile since I don't have a pc access.

[krita] [Bug 472705] 5.2 Android: App crashes randomly for unknown reasons, except when running app on a second user account

2023-11-07 Thread Edward Mowah
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=472705

ENABLING ACCESSIBILITY APPLICATIONS (SUCH AS BITWARDEN AND MICROSOFT
AUTHENTICATOR) IS CAUSING KRITA TO CRASH

I backed up my device files, apps and settings and did a factory reset (Galaxy
Tab S9 Ultra)
After reset, I didn't connect to any network at the beginning.
I also didn't logon to any account (Google / Samsung)
No application updates, no setting changed besides switching device to dark
mode.
I uninstalled / disabled 3rd party apps / bloat like always.

Krita ran without crashing.

As soon as I restored everything from my back up including apps and device
settings, krita began crashing again.

I repeated the process but this time I logged in to Google and Samsung right
from the beginning after reset and even updated applications.
I uninstalled bloat like always.
But I didn't install any other application or change any settings (besides
switching to dark mode)

Krita runs fine.

>From here for each app installed and for each settings changed, I will opened
Krita and see if it will crash.

Krita ran without crashing until I installed and set up Bitwarden on my device.

At first I thought it was just Bitwarden itself, because Krita ran fine up
until I set Bitwarden up, but then Microsoft Authenticator also Caused Krita to
crash.
Both apps have similar settings and one among them is enabling them in
Accessibility Settings.

I found that when either app was enabled under Accessibility settings, krita
crashed.
By disabling them in Accessibility settings I am able to run krita without a
crash.

Can someone else who's having this issue confirm that they have any app enabled
under accessibility settings? (Maybe it's not just Bitwarden and Microsoft
Authenticator)

[dolphin] [Bug 476699] New: Cannot enter folders even with correct permissions, when folder is deleted via terminal it can't be remade via the gui "Could not make folder"

2023-11-07 Thread bugzilla_noreply

Bug ID: 476699
Summary: Cannot enter folders even with correct permissions,
when folder is deleted via terminal it can't be remade
via the gui "Could not make folder"
Classification: Applications
   Product: dolphin
   Version: 23.08.2
  Platform: Archlinux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: rockja...@gmail.com
CC: kfm-de...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

I noticed the problem while fiddling with ssh for my server, when I attempted
to enter the ~/.ssh folder in my home directory. After which I tried clicking
on random folders, and found that I also couldnt open ~/.mozilla, ~/.pki and
~/.thunderbird . Every other folder opens fine, and can be restricted to not
open if I change permissions, but the listed folders refuse to open no matter
what I do.

I've tried modifying permissions with chmod to 777, making sure they have
execution privileges, changing ownership, cloning the file with rsync into
another directory, which allows me to open the file in the new directory,
though if it is cloned once again from this directory to the home directory it
becomes unopenable again. Somehow the problem is tied to the home directory,
though a btrfs-scrub found no corruption.

Unless there's a problem with the filesystem, I have absolutely no idea what is
causing this since the folders can be accessed normally via the terminal or
another file explorer like thunar.

[kdeconnect] [Bug 443155] kdeconnect breaks when openssh is upgraded to version 8.8p1-1

2023-11-07 Thread Brian
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443155

"Permission denied" sounds a lot like a different issue I've had before --
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=432368

To fix it, you just need to set the Custom Destination in KDE-C Android to your
Downloads folder, navigating there. (Repeat this even if the path looks already
set).

Also to capture useful traces, you'll need to follow the steps at the first
link I sent earlier to configure Wireshark to decrypt the TLS traffic between
GSConnect and KDE-C Android. The steps are fairly straightforward -- one-liner
modifying GSConnect's daemon.js to add an SSLKEYLOGFILE path, pointing
Wireshark to that same path, reboot, and begin logging with Wireshark. (I'm not
sure if/how the decryption can be done with a tcpdump cmdline.) Any saved
traces should now contain the decrypted traffic -- a decrypted packet should
look like the image at that first link.

Your phone's live "adb logcat" would also be very useful to see app-level
errors. If you like, you can limit both traces and logcat to just the rough
time period when you run the tests.

SUMMARY
The "Logout" button's behavior in the plasma "kickoff" feels jerky and often
tricks a user into thinking his desired action has already been taken, when in
reality the system is waiting for a confirmation in the plasma "look and feel"
applet.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open kickoff by pressing the meta key or clicking on the plasma icon.
2. Click on "Shut Down" Option

OBSERVED RESULT
The "look and feel" applet opens with an increasing blur effect which tricks
the end user into thinking the shutdown process has been started (which happens
to me very often), as well as the confirmation button below the decreasing
countdown has design flaws that make it not very intuitive.

EXPECTED RESULT
Either the system should start the "Shut Down" process instantly on clicking
the button or the "look and feel" widget should be more intuitive in this
context.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Kolourpaint is an excellent tool for basic design productivity. I can resize
images while dropping borders... and using Capital Letters key it keep equal
dimensions while resizing. It is much better than MsPaint in Windows.
Transparent colors and changing them improving color range with the color cube
is perfect. BUT I miss something about writing. When I use text tool I would
like to change some, or just one letter, color and size... without closing text
tool and doing it again. It it were possible to do it like MsPaint, then
Kolourpaint would be 10 of 10. Thanks for creating this software. It has
helped me a lot and productivity goes better and faster my work. Thanks a lot
and salutes. Good night.

[plasmashell] [Bug 476693] New: Clicking on a desktop no longer closes applet popups

2023-11-07 Thread ratijas
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=476693

Bug ID: 476693
Summary: Clicking on a desktop no longer closes applet popups
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Desktop Containment
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: m...@ratijas.tk
CC: notm...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY

This bug report is specifically about applet popups for applets on a desktop
containment, and not about panels.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add a compact applet to the desktop, for example: Battery & Brightness, or
Bluetooth.
2. Click on the applet's compact representation. (Popup with applet's full
representation should open).
3. Click on an empty space on a desktop.

OBSERVED RESULT
Applet's popup stays open.

EXPECTED RESULT
Applet's popup should lose focus and close.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.80
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.240.0
Qt Version: 6.6.0
Kernel Version: 6.5.9-arch2-1 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M/PCIe/SSE2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I'm using single screen (laptop's built-in one), 100% scaling, nothing fancy.

Combined with https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=476692 it becomes
challenging to close popups in some cases.

This used to "just work" in Plasma 5 times. Also the bug started happening
quite a while ago in plasmoidviewer (like, a couple of months).

[plasmashell] [Bug 476692] New: Applet popups no longer flip vertically near the edge of a screen

2023-11-07 Thread ratijas

  Priority: NOR
 Component: Desktop Containment
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org

  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY

In Plasma 5 times, compact applets on a desktop containment that are too close
to the top of the screen for their popup to fit would open their popup at a
flipped position — below compact applet. This behavior was lost during Plasma 6
refactoring, and now popups are merely pushed down by a screen's top edge, so
they might overlap with compact applets. Combined with another bug (the one
that clicking on a desktop no longer closes applet popups), it turns out tricky
to close those popups: you need to focus them specifically and press Escape,
for example.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add a compact applet to the desktop, for example: Battery & Brightness, or
Bluetooth.
2. Enter Edit Mode, and move an applet closer to the top on the
screen/containment.
3. Exit Edit Mode.
4. Click on the applet's compact representation.

OBSERVED RESULT
Popup with applet's full representation opens, but it sometimes placed at the
top of the screen, overlapping the compact representation. *Sometimes* because
it seems that a restart of plasmashell might fix it.

EXPECTED RESULT
Popup placement should be consistently flipped vertically around compact
representation.

Thanks for the detailed report.

For the record: The steps to reproduce this bug using the GUI only:
1. Open KPhotoAlbum
2. Select View | Show Newest First
3. Go To Thumbnail View
4. Select all images
5. Select View | Sort selected by Date & Time

Apparently nobody ever tried sorting the images while the display order was
newest first...

Thank you for confirming.

good sorcery..
Can you think of any relevant functions which may trigger the undesired
behavior in NTFS3 regarding $I30? I'm trying to gather the pieces, meanwhile
I'll open a report against fedora-ntfs3 and reenable ntfs-3g on my machines.

Thank you for the bug report!

Please note that Plasma 5.26.1 will not be supported for much longer by KDE;
supported versions are 5.27, and 5.27 or newer.

Please upgrade to the latest version as soon as your distribution makes it
available to you. Plasma is a fast-moving project, and bugs in one version are
often fixed in the next one.

Should this be closed, or left as a wishlist to consider increasing the default

instead of just seeing they need to add columns? I don't know if there is any
obvious way to indicate that columns can be added by right-clicking in the

[Discover] [Bug 476691] New: UI Design: "Update" should be at the top in the Discover Software Center GUI

2023-11-07 Thread Ben McLean
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=476691

Bug ID: 476691
Summary: UI Design: "Update" should be at the top in the
Discover Software Center GUI
Classification: Applications
   Product: Discover
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Flatpak
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: discover
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: mclean@gmail.com
CC: aleix...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

I got the Steam Deck running the latest stable Steam OS.

I have my Desktop Mode environment on my Steam Deck set to use large fonts
because I'm visually impaired.
This has forced the "Update" option in Discover Software Center to go below the
bottom of the screen for me. It's not broken: I just have to scroll for it.

But it occurs to me that this is bad design. Not everybody needs all the
different software categories to browse, but absolutely everybody needs to
update. Why should someone have to read through all of the different software
categories they could browse before they get down to where "Update" is? I think
"Update" should be at the top, the first menu item in Discover Software Center,
because everybody needs that.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Run Discover Software Center.

OBSERVED RESULT
In the left side panel, "Update" is at the very bottom.

EXPECTED RESULT
"Update" should be the first item at the top of the list.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Latest stable Steam OS as of 2023-11-06.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Just a design suggestion.

Add a switch to globally enable/disable network status checks

Make error reporting less ambiguous: report either "no connection" or
"not allowed on metered connection". Also show hint how to disable
network status checking altogether.

Can't reproduce.

According to the stack trace, the code in the weather widget is doing nothing
more than a simple KIO::get to a URL. The cause is probably in KIO code.

I thought I just left a comment, but it seems to have disappeared (or not
appeared in the first place.)

CSV export of investment accounts has worked for some time. QIF export of
investment accounts has still not been implemented.

The attachment in Comment #1 appears to be a list of categories, not any
account content. When you export CSV or QIF, there is a selection for
"Contents to Export" of "Accounts" or "Categories". Perhaps you chose the
latter?

I don't have any preference on this one, @grouchomarx, any opinion?

The shorter version looks better to me, so if no one objects I'll update the
string to it in a few days.

> msgid "KDE Frameworks Version"
> msgstr "Version de KDE Frameworks"

This is already the translation we've updated.

> msgid "Set flexible size"
> msgstr "Remplir l'espace"
> Since "flexible" may not have exactly the same meaning as in English, I
> think it's clearer to change the whole sentence.

>From the code
(https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-workspace/-/blob/master/applets/panelspacer/package/contents/ui/main.qml#L46),
the context seems to be expanding the item to the remaining space, so updating
the translation as you say looks good to me.
If there is noone that objects, I'll update it too in the next days.

Cheers,

A simple icon was all that was asked..notifications and such wouldn't even be
necessary for that. Just a running-in-the-background useful tray icon. Like any
other social-media/chat software. >_> I don't understand the rationale against
it, but I guess it is whatever it is, I can always use another client.
Personally, I just wanted a full-featured experience and software, I expect it
from KDE, unlike Gnome which'll eventually end up a startup-shutdown script
itself. *shrug*

[kphotoalbum] [Bug 476651] KPA crashes when sorting item in thumbnail view by date/time

2023-11-07 Thread Andreas Schleth
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=476651

OK ... (sigh!) ... I edited the offending rc-file line by line and this is the
offending line in the section [Thumbnails]:

[Thumbnails]
...
showNewestThumbnailFirst=true

When I remove only this line, sorting does not crash anymore.
Adding this line should trigger the crash.

Completely removing the rc-file and starting from scratch solves this problem
as well but then you have to re-do all your settings.

My verdict: settings in the rc-file should not crash the application.

Do you have instructions on how to do the first suggestion? The adb process,
for those of us with less tech knowledge.
