Alex Deucher (AMD):

"Adding a framerate limiter creates bubbles in the pipeline which means the GPU
sees less sustained load and so it doesn't ramp up as high as it would if there
were no limiter in place. pp_power_profile_mode allows you to adjust the
heuristics used to ramp up and down the clocks.
power_dpm_force_performance_level=high forces all of the clocks to high all of
the time is probably not what you want. Keeping them high all the time kills
your thermal and power headroom and likely causes throttling because they would
never naturally ramp down. Adjusting pp_power_profile_mode is the right
approach if the default heuristics are not working well for you. That is why
they are there. Changing the default to something more aggressive uses more
power, especially for lighter weight desktop workloads so there is always a
trade off.

Windows has the concept of a fullscreen 3D game mode so the driver can switch
the profile when that mode is requested. On Linux there is no similar concept.
A fullscreen 3D app is just an app that takes the full screen size. E.g., it
could be a game or it could just be the desktop compositor. I think ideally
for Linux, we'd have some user process, maybe as part of mesa, that knows that
the user wants to do and requests the appropriate profile. You can also take
into account the power source (AC vs. battery) and adjust the profile for that
as well if you want less aggressive heuristics when on battery power for
example."

Wayland has the content type protocol.

The "user process" would be "power-profiles-daemon", but that still needs GPU
support: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/upower/power-profiles-daemon/-/issues/3

Hi,

The only process orphaned when digiKam crash due to dysfunction is exiftool.exe
and the QtWebEngineProcess.exe. The first one must be killed by the installer,
the second one not yet. I will fix it. At least

The old orphaned processes sound come from the cross compiled version wich is
deprecated now. The new application installer is a native Windows 10 version
now.

So, killing all digiKam stuff with the Windows process manager must be enough.
Here i never faced this kind of problem under Windows 10.

To be clear i recommend :

1/ To uninstall properly digiKam from Windows control panel / Application
section. Thi include to kill exiftool.exe and QtWebEngineProcess.exe
2/ To install the 8.2.0 pre-release from Windows.
3/ Wait some days. We recompile and publish online the pre-release installer
every day.
4/ Start digiKam and go to Help/Check for new version menu. If a new installer
is available online, this must stop properly the current digiKam session and
start the installer after downloading file.

Best

Daimonicon,

The next digiKam 8.2.0 for Windows is now build natively under Windows using
VCPKG+MSVC toolchain instead to be cross compiled to Linux. It's a big change
which will close plenty of file as cross compilation cannot emulate all Windows
low level features provided by Windows API.

So i recommend to test the Windows 10 and later digiKam 8.2.0 pre-release
installer available here :

https://files.kde.org/digikam/

Best regards

I can provide the logs is someone tells me how to, since I don't know. I adjust
my screen brightness by just adjusting my monitor. I would like to help this
get solved.

It's not impossible that there might be a 1px thick transparent line if you are
using a fractional scale factor. A transparent line might be treated as a black
line in situations where transparency isn't supported.

Since the user is very unlikely to set `ESC` as the shortcut, it's better that
the usual way to close a dialog still works.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In the window menu, select `set window shortcut`.
2. Press `ESC`.

OBSERVED RESULT
The shortcut is set to `ESC`.

EXPECTED RESULT
The dialog is closed.

weird...

So its like that, that if a screenshot is pasted from spectacle directly into
writer there is a black 1px line at the bottom.

I exported that image from writer and uploaded.

This was not the case when the screenshot was saved and then imported into
libreoffice writer.

Maybe this was some sort of rendering issue? It was still there when not
focussing the image and all...

2023-11-23 Thread cipricus
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=477442

Bug ID: 477442
Summary: Bluetooth speaker loses audio after media pause (on
Macbook with UE Boom)
Classification: Plasma
   Product: Bluedevil
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: now...@gmail.com
  Reporter: cipri...@gmail.com
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
With Kubuntu 22.04 up to 23.10 (but also for testing purposes with KaOS latest
Plasma) on a Macbook Air I have a problem with a UE Boom 2 bluetooth speaker
(and then with a Boom 3) which isn't affecting a PC laptop: sound is not heard
after media playback is paused for more than a few seconds. I mean that after
un-pausing the local or online media player there is no sound or he sound is
severely distorted (cracks and pauses as if the signal is lost). - The only fix
is to disconnect and reconnect the bluetooth speaker. –Or, in order to avoid
this, as a workaround: before pausing, even before playing the file that might
be paused, to start in the background, muted, another audio file. - This
problem doesn't in fact happen if audio playback is muted, but only if it's
paused!

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Connect to the bluetooth speaker through the Plasma bluetooth tool
2. play an audio stream (or video+audio file) – no mater the program – through
the BT device
3. pause the playback for more than a few seconds (let’s say 10-15 seconds)

OBSERVED RESULT
The sound is not heard or is totally distorted (cracking sounds with long
pauses). In order to fix this, the BT device has to be disconnected and
reconnected.

This can be fixed by installing `blueman`, starting and keeping
`blueman-manager` running. (`blueman-manager` process is stopped by closing its
window: and clicking the `blueman-tray` button also closes the
`blueman-manager` window and thus the process! - The method I use to hide
`blueman-manager` window without killing the `blueman-manager` is to dock it to
tray with `kdocker`).
If `blueman-manager` window is not closed (including by clicking its tray
button) but simply ‘docked’ with kdocker program, the `blueman-manager` keeps
running and the problem is gone: the audio can be paused/unpaused without the
BT speaker losing sound. (But oddly, closing `blueman-tray` (right-click its
icon and select Exit) doesn't kill `blueman-manager`, but left-clicking it
does, even if `blueman-manager` is already docked. I have to avoid that to fix
this.) `blueman-manager` is the only process needed to solve the problem, while
`blueman-applet` and `blueman-tray` may be closed if necessary

EXPECTED RESULT
The audio sound should continue normally when un-paused (without running
`blueman-manager`).
Bluedevil should be able to do by itself that which in case is achieved only by
`blueman-manager`.

My laptop's CPU is an i5 7300hq. Also, one thing to note is that I did a system
update lately, and the higher CPU usage i was having before dropped a little
bit even with the icc profile set, and the frame drops lessened a little bit
after an update on Plasma 6 Alpha lately. I don't know what caused the
performance increase, but somehow it's slightly better.

I have some more diagnostic info that may help.

The issue occurs when using regular x264, NVENC-x264 and NVENC-x265. The issue
does NOT occur when using MJPEG (proxy clips generate successfully).

This is a fine workaround for now, but doesn't explain why these encoders fail
on MLTs when they work fine with the original clips.

[kde] [Bug 477440] New: Language is configured as Spanish, but most menus are shown in English

2023-11-23 Thread moshpirit
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=477440

Bug ID: 477440
Summary: Language is configured as Spanish, but most menus are
shown in English
Classification: I don't know
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: a...@openmailbox.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Sometimes the text is shown in Spanish (as it should be), sometimes in English
(for some reason).

OBSERVED RESULT
➤ Applications like Dolphin show the menus in English, and folders like
"Documentos" (Spanish for "Documents") are shown in the "places" panel as
"Documents".
➤ Plasmoids mix Spanish and English somehow (see screenshot:
https://i.imgur.com/MNbmjCJ.png).
➤ For apps like System settings, it's much trickier, since the categories are
shown in Spanish but the menus and configurations are in English (see
screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/rRAlJ70.png)

EXPECTED RESULT
Everything is shown in Spanish.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.9
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.112.0
Qt Version: 5.15.11

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I tried manually modifying the language and going back to Spanish + pressing
"Apply" and restarting to see if the error persisted (it does).

[kwin] [Bug 477438] New: Apps using wp_fractional_scale_manager_v1 look blurry

2023-11-23 Thread Iván Ávalos
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=477438

Bug ID: 477438
Summary: Apps using wp_fractional_scale_manager_v1 look blurry
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.27.9
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: wayland-generic
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: ava...@disroot.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
I've been trying the experimental wp_fractional_scale_manager_v1 support to see
if things looked sharper, and was surprised to see it perform much worse than
downscaling. Apps using this protocol look blurry, and in the case of Firefox,
some UI elements even break.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Apply 150% of scaling (I'm using a 32" 4K monitor).
2. Run GNOME Clocks 45.0 with GTK 4.12.4 and the env `GDK_DEBUG=gl-fractional`.
3. Notice the blurriness of the entire app.

Using the same scaling:
1. Run Firefox 119.0.1.
2. Set the about:config flag `widget.wayland.fractional-scale.enabled` to true.
3. Restart Firefox.
4. Observe the blurriness and broken menus.

OBSERVED RESULT
Things blurry and broken. :(

EXPECTED RESULT
Thinks ultra crisp and sharp. :)

Thank you for the bug report!

However Plasma 5.22.0 is no longer eligible for support or maintenance from
KDE; supported versions are 5.27, and 5.27 or newer. Please upgrade to a
supported version as soon as your distribution makes it available to you.
Plasma is a fast-moving project, and bugs in one version are often fixed in the
next one.

If you need support for Plasma 5.22.0, please contact your distribution, who
bears the responsibility of providing support for older releases that are no
longer supported by KDE.

If you can reproduce the issue after upgrading to a supported version, feel
free to re-open this bug report.

I currently face the issue that Google Maps imagery (all types no matter if
satellite or road map) is not updated when moving the map in the geolocation
editor. The edges of the image remains white. It loads the map once when
opening the editor and that's it. If I move the window, open and close it
again, it loads the imaginary at the place where I left the last time. As a
workaround one could use Marble to open a specific location, go to Google Maps
open and close the editor, but that's very annoying.

This applies to the appimage of digikam 8.1.0 as the native Arch Linux crashes
because of bug #477379.

Battery applet icon on the panel suggests the laptop is plugged in, but it
isn't connected to AC. Battery and Brightness panel appears when clicked and
contains the correct information. Plugging in AC and unplugging it has no
effect. Plasma pops up a warning notification when the battery `percentage` is
20%. With `percentage` at 17%, `upower` reports the battery `state` as
`discharging` and `icon-name` as `battery-caution-symbolic`.

[kmymoney] [Bug 477436] KMY Ability to navigate back or forth to location

2023-11-23 Thread Jack
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=477436

Jack changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 CC||ostroffjh@users.sourceforge
   ||.net
   Severity|normal |wishlist

I assume you are using 5.1.x. In versions compiled from git master branch, the
ledger is now tabbed, making it trivial to just click the tab to see a
different account. Even in 5.1, if the other account you want to see is
referenced in the current transaction (such as a transfer or investment
transaction) you can right click on the transaction in the ledger, and there
should be an entry to "Go to" that other account.

I've changed the status of this to "wishlist" as it might be possible to keep a
list of which views and tabs have been visited, and be able to move through
that list, similar to many browsers work.

[kmymoney] [Bug 477436] New: KMY Ability to navigate back or forth to location

2023-11-23 Thread robsonsilva
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=477436

Bug ID: 477436
Summary: KMY Ability to navigate back or forth to location
Classification: Applications
   Product: kmymoney
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Microsoft Windows
OS: Microsoft Windows
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: ux-ui
  Assignee: kmymoney-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: evertondan...@yahoo.com.br
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Would be nice to have the ability to navigate back or forth to locations.

Example 1:
User is in cash account and opens credit card account to see some transactions.
Then he decides to come back to the cash account.
He could use some arrow back to return to the last location(s).

Example 2:
User is in Current account, he goes to investment account, and then he decides
to return to Current account.
He could use the arrow back to come back to current account and then arrow
forward to go to investment account.

2023-11-23 Thread bugzilla_noreply

Bug ID: 477434
Summary: Timeout during importing a very high amount of mails
Classification: Applications
   Product: kmail2
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Debian stable
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: misc
  Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***
My day to day email box is an Outlook.com address that I've had since about 10
years and as such contains several (ten/hundred)thousands of emails. It took me
one or two restarts of KMail to fetch all the emails; it seemed to timeout
after some point.

I'll be glad to provide additional information on this
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have an Outlook.com email box with a very high quantity of emails (order of
magnitude of 10,000 to 1,000,000)
2. Start KMail on a "clean slate", i.e. without configs
3. Import the Outlook.com email address. KMail will now import older items
first (at least that was the case for me)
4. Sort emails by date descending (if KMail is not set to do so automatically)
to easily see which email is the last one imported

OBSERVED RESULT
At some point, it stops importing any items; you can see that no newer emails
are imported now. If you close and reopen KMail now, the loading continues

EXPECTED RESULT
KMail will not timeout during processing of this large mailbox and continue to
download emails until all the emails are fetched

Thanks. It looks like Qt Multimedia is where the bug is, but I just remembered
Qt Multimedia had some big changes in Qt 6. I wrote a basic Qt 6 QML UI that we
can test with. Could you try the same video with this QML file? You can run it
with `qml6 the_qml_file.qml your_video.mp4`. You'll need to set the path to the
QML file and the video yourself since this is just an example command. `qml6`
comes from the qt6-declarative-tools package and you may need to install the
qt6-multimedia-imports package as well.

If you can still reproduce the bug with Qt 6, can you file a Qt bug? Since I
cannot reproduce the bug, I will not be able to help Qt devs do it either. In
the "Component/s" field, put "Multimedia". In the "Environment" field, put your
system info. Be sure to attach the QML file I gave you as well so that the Qt
devs can reproduce the bug using the same code as us.

That's obviously incorrect, it is necessary for BTRFS and Ext to have it
working correctly. It is better to err on the safe side here.

And while I appreciate you have mentioned it on Discuss, the reach is fairly
small, thats the reason I asked Nate to get the message out.

And the number of bugs filed or other reports is not a good measure of systems
affected - people may simply not want to invest the time (and contrary to the
automated kcrash reports it takes significantly more time to do so).

Also, Debian and Ubuntu are both currently shipping older KF5 version
(5.107/5.110) not yet affected.

2023-11-23 Thread Andrius Štikonas
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=477422

Oh, it's probably because of the prefix. That reddit thread says:
"/home/linuxbrew/.linuxbrew" prefix is not one of the trusted command prefixes

By default partitionmanager only allows calling commands from / and /usr
prefixes. That is for security reasons, specifically to avoid accidentally
running non-system commands (that might be malicious) as root.

Which is kind of exactly what you are trying to do with homebrew. Partition
Manager notices that you are running it from somewhere untrusted and aborts.
You need to add your prefix to src/util/trustedprefixes and recompile it.

If you are happy to search for just the filenames then you don't have to turn
on the "Content Indexing". It's the opening, reading, converting to text and
indexing each word of each of the files that takes the time.

You can follow the indexing as it is happening by running
balooctl monitor
and you can get a feel for how fast it is going. Baloo does "index in real
time" in that if you change a file, it notices and updates the index. It's just
that when you want to rebuild the index, it's a lot of work.

It looks as if you are indexing your Wine (maybe?) folders, that can include a
*load* of files. If you are indexing hidden files and folders, it probably
makes sense to exclude the .cache and .local/share/Trash

No I didn't notice any difference in boot time.

Maybe some more logs are needed for Natalie to look into. So please if you can

I have tried all possible working-around possibilities:
Both file edits at the same time. > Brightness slider working at first, you can
not set Power Profile (not changed after a re-login, either).
5s changed to 9s. > Brightness slider working at first, you can not set Power
Profile (not changed after a re-login, either).
powerdevil.desktop edit > Brightness slider working at first, you can not set
Power Profile (not changed after a re-login, either).
No edit > Powedevil not shown in Systray so I think it doesn't start

Downgrading the 2 packages > Powerdevil works as expected, but no brightness
slider (this feature was introduced with current version)
[I did not try downgrading juust 1 of the 2 packages, these would be 2 more
options]
I rebooted each time.

I tried all the above with bot the 23/11/13 and the 23/11/21 stable update

I've just seen KWin hang on a GPU reset as well, and also in the blur effect.
registerSupportProperty in effecthandler.cpp should probably not block on xcb,
or at least have a timeout of some sort.
There's also the question what Xwayland is doing that we hang in xcb; it didn't
actually crash for me (or at least there's no coredumps). I sadly didn't check
its backtrace before rebooting the PC, and I haven't been able to reproduce it
(with intentional GPU resets) since then.

Bug ID: 477432
Summary: [FR] An option to spoiler part of a message
Classification: Applications
   Product: NeoChat
   Version: 23.08.3
  Platform: unspecified
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: fe...@posteo.de
  Reporter: 318...@gmail.com
CC: c...@carlschwan.eu
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***
In FluffyChat as well as Discord, it's easy to hide only part of a message
behind a spoiler warning by wrapping the spoilers with pairs of vertical bars
like this: ||spoilery stuff goes here.||

I am requesting that a similar feature be added to NeoChat.
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Attempt to send a message where only part of the message is hidden behind a
spoiler warning.

OBSERVED RESULT
You can only spoiler an entire message with the /spoiler command.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Mint 21.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.111.0
Qt Version: 5.15.10

[kwin] [Bug 477430] New: Cannot turn off Night Light after enabling HDR while it is active

2023-11-23 Thread hexchain
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=477430

Bug ID: 477430
Summary: Cannot turn off Night Light after enabling HDR while
it is active
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: git master
  Platform: Compiled Sources
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: wayland-generic
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: k...@hexchain.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
If HDR is turned on while Night Light is active, there doesn't seem to be a way
to deactivate it. Also, sometimes it looks like the color filter has been
applied twice (more red-ish).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Activate Night Light
2. Turn on HDR

OBSERVED RESULT
The screen looks a bit redish, but turning off Night Light has no effect.

EXPECTED RESULT
Night Light should continue to function as usual.

2023-11-23 Thread Gabriel

Hm, perhaps it's only happening with some applications? It's still occurring
with the Spotify flatpak that I have on Plasma 25.7.9. Do you have a chance to
test that?

Created attachment 163404

image of the clipboard history view with some blurry entries

I am not sure if this belongs to the clipboard manager or kwin.

I am having blurry clipboard entries in the Meta+V clipboard history view, when
hovering over them they get sharp.
