[plasmashell] [Bug 427668] If the panel has a shadow, make it not appear over windows, just the desktop
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=427668 --- Comment #16 from Adam Fontenot --- > the inability to tell where a window ended and the panel began This is an extremely limited issue though, it only happens in rare circumstances. In particular it doesn't affect the window decoration itself so long as the colors are set correctly (as I think Breeze does). If there is an accessibility issue to address, I think it should be addressed with a solution that implements good visual design choices, not relying on the ugly effect of panels casting a shadow on adjacent windows. I can think of a number of (mostly complementary) options: 1. Make panels have a different color than the Breeze theme background color for windows. (This should already be true by default, IIRC?) 2. Give panels a 1 px border on the outside edge. (This exact solution was used to solve the "distinguishing between windows" accessibility problem.) 3. Snap windows the (from the window decorations) away from the panel, instead of directly adjacent to the panel, so the already-existing outline would serve to help distinguish between the window and the panel. 4. Use a slight gradient by default on the panel background. Or we could go with a workaround like: 5. Make this toggleable, just like the outline strength feature was made toggleable. Personally I like the idea of (3) because it reuses a window-distinguishing feature we already have. I think it would probably look nice, although I haven't made a mockup. Can we discuss options that would result in better visual design, rather than closing this because of one relatively rare issue? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[Breeze] [Bug 478751] New: Breeze theme creates flickering effect in window title bar when changing window focus
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478751 Bug ID: 478751 Summary: Breeze theme creates flickering effect in window title bar when changing window focus Classification: Plasma Product: Breeze Version: 5.90.0 Platform: Arch Linux OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Color scheme Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: adam.m.fontenot+...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 164302 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=164302=edit screencast of the problem SUMMARY I'm reporting this against the Breeze theme because it shows the issue well and degrades the out-of-the-box KDE experience significantly. If there's a problem in KWin that's causing this, it may also be noticeable in other themes that like Breeze Light (a) have separate window colors for focused vs unfocused windows, and (b) set the title bar to the same color as the window background in at least one of those states. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Set your global theme to e.g. Breeze or Breeze Twilight, which should mean you have the Breeze Light color scheme set. 2. Change focus between two windows. It will make the problem much more obvious if you use hover to focus, because focus changing will happen much more often in your routine use of the computer. This *should* be optional though. OBSERVED RESULT Frequently (but not always), the window's title bar will be repainted (to the "inactive" colors) one or more frames earlier than the window background will be repainted. This causes a noticeable flickering / strobing effect that bothers me quite a lot, enough so that I changed my theme colors, and might go so far as to be an accessibility issue for some. My partner also uses KDE. Their computer is significantly slower than mine and the strobing effect is *greatly* exacerbated by this. To my eye it can be ~0.2 seconds or so before the window colors are back in sync. It's really bad looking. Those on brand new systems with high powered graphics might not notice it, but it seems to be a serious problem for old laptops. My personal workaround is shown in the screencast. In the first half of the video, I toggle the focus while using a custom color scheme that doesn't change the inactive window colors. Then I switch the colors to Breeze Light and show the bug. EXPECTED RESULT The window background should be repainted in the same frame as the title bar 100% of the time with no exceptions. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.90.0 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.246.0 Qt Version: 6.6.1 Kernel Version: 6.6.7-arch1-1 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland ADDITIONAL INFORMATION This isn't a new issue, it's one of those design nits that has bothered me for years and I found a workaround a long time ago (I quit using Breeze colors). I'm reporting it now just because there's a lot of polishing happening for Plasma 6 and I thought someone might want to take a look. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Here it can reproduce 2 bugs: Bug 1. Clip in sequence track incorrectly replaced by another clip, after the original clip deleted BUg 2. Crash caused by sequence STEPS TO REPRODUCE This is what I did to create the bug demo project zip: 1. Create project 2. Add to project: 1.mp4, 2.mp4, 3.mp4 , p1.jpg, p2.jpg, 3. Create 3 sequences 4. Add those pictures and videos to the 3 sequences' tracks: Sequence 1:1.mp4, 3.mp4, p1.jpg Sequence 2:1.mp4, 2.mp4, p2.jpg Sequence 3:1.mp4, 3.mp4, p1.jpg, p2.jpg 5. Add Sequence 1 into Sequence 2 6. Add Sequence 2 into Sequence 3. Now: Sequence 1:1.mp4, 3.mp4, p1.jpg Sequence 2:1.mp4, 2.mp4 , Seq 1, p2.jpg Sequence 3:1.mp4, 3.mp4 , Seq 2 , p1.jpg, p2.jpg 7. Close Sequence 1 and Sequence 2 tabs. Leave Sequence 3 tab open. 8. Save the project and close Kdenlive 9. Edit p2.jpg with a drawing app to make it different 10. Move 2.mp4 and 3.mp4 to a sub folder to make them in different path (Now I packed all the files into zip) (Developer start from below to reproduce bug) 1. Open the project in Kdenlive 2. Click "Use placeholders for missing clips" and "OK" 3. Delete 1.mp4, 2.mp4, 3.mp4 in project bin. Notice when you delete 2.mp4, no warning cause Sequence 2 is not open !! 4. Doubleclick Sequence 2 to open its tab. You see the place of 2.mp4 in track incorrectly replaced by a no-audio Seq 3 !! 5. Doubleclick Sequence 1 to open its tab. Crash !! [kwin] [Bug 478476] Output removal ("remove screen") does not work (Wayland, Plasma 6)
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478476 --- Comment #10 from Stefan Hoffmeister --- As far as I can see, this defect only hits systems where an output does not _physically_ disappear. Or, in other words, if you plug the cable, well, there is nothing coming down that wire any more, right? So, this will most likely only detrimentally _affect_ systems with non-physical screens which allow multi-screen configurations. Such as (confirmed) VMware Workstation (and most likely all desktop hypervisor products created by VMware, for instance VMware Fusion). Perhaps GNOME Boxes / qemu / kvm (with virtio-gpu)? Perhaps VirtualBox? Perhaps whatever is using the qxl driver? Whatever does virtualization and software abstraction tricks. It will also only _affect_ users of said systems who turn on and _off_ one more screens in addition to the primary screen. So while the defect is universal, after triage, its impact (most likely) is rather limited. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kwin] [Bug 478476] Output removal ("remove screen") does not work (Wayland, Plasma 6)
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478476 --- Comment #9 from Stefan Hoffmeister --- The root cause of this defect is a design challenge in the atomic commit code. Whenever an output is changed ("DrmGpu::updateOutputs"), among other things, the 1:1 matched up internal processing pipeline of kwin gets "managed", too. The GPU _instance_ retains a list of those pipelines in m_pipelines. When a new pipeline is added, it is added immediately to m_pipelines. When a pipeline is removed, it is immediately removed from m_pipelines. After the GPU instance state for pipelines has been altered, all this gets tested and ends up in DrmGpu::testPipelines(). This then does commitPipelines(m_pipelines, DrmPipeline::CommitMode::TestAllowModeset. This will pass, and all is good - new configuration is accepted. Alas, what is missing is a successful atomic commit to clean up any _removed_ pipeline(s) all the way into the _kernel_. This has the effect that the _DRM plane_ that was connected to the removed pipeline still has a framebuffer object attached to it that is now frozen in time, because nothing ever updates it. And because there is still that framebuffer object around, the VMware Workstation host will faithfully show that forever. This behaviour is best illustrated by adding one single log statement to the implementation: ``` DrmPipeline::Error DrmPipeline::commitPipelinesAtomic(const QList , CommitMode mode, const QList ) { + qCDebug(KWIN_DRM) << "commitPipelinesAtomic is applied to" << pipelines.size() << "pipelines"; ``` Notice how this will print the number(a) as explained above - numbers that are not good ;). Also inspect the output of drm_info gathered in attachement "After removing screen" and notice how plane 2 (which is the removed screen) still has a non-zero framebuffer buffer ID (FB_ID) value (96) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 478743] It closed abruptly.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478743 --- Comment #2 from Jetrom --- "It appears that there have been a series of incidents involving Plasma Shell (plasmashell) and other KDE processes. Some specific errors include binding loops in QML properties, cyclic dependency issues, and initialization failures of services like org.kde.KSplash. Additionally, Plasma Workspace restarts after unexpected termination of plasmashell and attempts to start DrKonqi, a crash tracking program, are observed. These errors may indicate instabilities in the KDE desktop environment. It would be useful to check whether updates are available for the system and KDE components, as well as looking for specific solutions for each error presented in the logs." I asked ChatGPT so I could understand what more or less is. So I decided to share more details found in the log. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Last time I tried kdesrc-build the head-desk-banging went to a 9 on the Richter scale but I can absolutely try building just Kwin with some modifications to test some stuff. [kwin] [Bug 478736] Low Observed Refresh Rate/FPS with Fedora Asahi Remix + Rawhide (Plasma 5.90/Plasma 6 beta)
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478736 Zamundaaa changed: What|Removed |Added Status|REPORTED|NEEDSINFO CC||xaver.h...@gmail.com Resolution|--- |WAITINGFORINFO --- Comment #1 from Zamundaaa --- There's three ways this could happen: 1. OpenGL render time queries are broken 2. the buffer becomes readable later than the render time queries say 3. KWin does the atomic commits too late You can test if it's the second one by setting KWIN_DRM_DISABLE_BUFFER_READABILITY_CHECKS=1. Does that improve the refresh rate? Afaik the Asahi driver currently doesn't support hardware cursors (that are moved without OpenGL or buffer readability tests being involved), so testing possibility 3 requires patching KWin -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
