[plasmashell] [Bug 481157] Going to window overview and listing the application name should always list installed application first, not some KDE discover store page

2024-02-09 Thread Ellie

Okay, after more playing around it seems like ALT+F2 basically does (mostly)
what the GNOME activities search does. I guess the plasma activity launcher
search is only really meant for windows, and everything else is just a second
thought?

I suppose under that assumption it kind of works for windows at least, although
then I find it a little strange that it shows other results ever at all.
Because it seems like when a window matches the other results are completely
unavailable rather than somehow secondary but still there. As a consequence
this to me begs the question, if I can't reliably get any of the other stuff
listed anyway, why not just make it search ONLY between the open windows as a
default in the first place? Why even show other results but only sometimes?
Maybe it's just me, but the design just feels a little confused. Maybe this
helps figuring out what might possibly work better.

Okay this is even worse, when I type "discord" when a browser window happens to
also have that in the title, I can't even launch it this way but just get the
browser window.

I'm not trying to be mean, but is it only me or does the search not seem that
useful if the sorting is oddly mixed up like that? Surely it should go to exact
app name match first, then same app's windows second, then others' apps windows
with that keyword third, then discover results fourth, or something? Or like,
maybe not what it does now at least, it seems like I never know what I'm
getting, not even like the last item I launched with this keyword which would
at least be predictable more than it is now.

[plasmashell] [Bug 481157] New: Going to window overview and listing the application name should always list installed application first, not some KDE discover store page

2024-02-09 Thread Ellie
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481157

Bug ID: 481157
Summary: Going to window overview and listing the application
name should always list installed application first,
not some KDE discover store page
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Activity Switcher
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: e...@horse64.org
CC: ivan.cu...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY

If I go to window overview and enter the full name of an installed flatpak
application and press enter I would have thought that it would be obvious I
want to launch it, but maybe it's not? Because somehow plasma thinks it should
list it as the 2nd result and as 1st and default choice, the KDE discover
page... even though it's already installed. This makes no sense to me: when
it's already installed, why would I want to just go and sit and look at the
discover page again rather than just use it? So in case this is intentional, I
don't quite understand the workflow of how it works right now. My apologies if
I'm missing something. (As a side note, GNOME Shell behaves as I described and
will list the installed app first, and the store page as some later result.)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Install discord from flathub
2. Activate window overview via e.g. the default top-left hot corner
3. Type "discord"
4. Press enter

OBSERVED RESULT

Opens KDE Discover store page. I would suggest this isn't what 99% of users
want. It's also not obvious at all how to change this, if it's possible at all.
I think I'm just going to uninstall KDE discover for now if it breaks results
in this way. That does actually fix this behavior, but of course means I have
to use the flatpak command line tool and can't use any of discover's update and
browsing functionality.

EXPECTED RESULT

The installed discord app opens.

Sorry for the delay

I actually did two tests, one from 17 days ago (January 23rd), and another one
today (February 9th). The crash was able to occur when I tested it on January
23rd, but because I forgot to report it here, I tried testing it again today to
see if I could recreate it again. I updated my system again today, and I spent
about 20 minutes turning on and off the different monitors, but I wasn't able
to get it to crash. It seems like the issue is fixed now.

Here's the journalctl log and pacman.log from today:
https://1drv.ms/f/s!Aj62egREH4PT1DTAgJABgF6XJ448?e=aaof5Q

The crash on January 23rd took me roughly 10 - 15 minutes to trigger it. When
it triggered, the GIGABYTE monitor was completely frozen, and once it was
frozen, no amount of turning on and off any of the monitors fixed it again.
Here's the journalctl log and crash logs from January 23rd if it helps :

Pour import d'un .csv : cela marche enfin (!) avec TAG comme nom du

Thank you for the bug report!

However Plasma 5.24.6 is no longer eligible for support or maintenance from
KDE; supported versions are 5.27, and 5.27 or newer. Please upgrade to a
supported version as soon as your distribution makes it available to you.
Plasma is a fast-moving project, and bugs in one version are often fixed in the
next one.

If you need support for Plasma 5.24.6, please contact your distribution, who
bears the responsibility of providing support for older releases that are no
longer supported by KDE.

If you can reproduce the issue after upgrading to a supported version, feel
free to re-open this bug report.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have an empty workspace
2. Open a dolphin window
3. Open several more dolphin windows

OBSERVED RESULT
Even with window placement set to centered, additional windows aren't actually
centered. That's because Plasma has a feature to offset windows so that the
titlebar are always visible. See: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58063.
In some cases this cascading can make new windows appear far away from the
center of the screen.

EXPECTED RESULT
I would expect for the windows to be completely overlapping. Note that I'm not
suggesting to replace the current mode, rather I think there should be an
additional toggle (enabled by default) called something like "Avoid obscuring
title bar".

There is nothing to do with bug 479950.
Bug 479950 is about loose F11 which was fiexed but with last ISO,
neon-unstable-20240208-1248.iso the but seems back again.
Now this one here never been solved.
I still get no functional Dolphin in X11 even with a fresh new installation and
fresh new user.
So I reopen this one.

Created attachment 165711

screencast of kate odd text selection behavior on increased line height

So, I booted a live neon session on a VM, and to my surprise, stock Kate worked
as expected.

So I decided to change settings, one by one, to match my local settings and
find if some setting was the culprit.

Lucky me, I found it on the first settings screen: line height.

If one increases the line height setting, then the bug occurs. I made another
screencast from a new VM using a neon live session.

For instance, in the video, I just increased it by one tick to 1.1. Locally, I
use 1.2. But just by changing it, the odd behavior starts happening.

Please let me know if I can provide any further info.

2024-02-09 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481149

Bug ID: 481149
Summary: After using Kwin - Move Window keyboard shortcut
causes cursor to be in the wrong position
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.27.10
  Platform: NixOS
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: core
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: arcinthe...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Trigger the keyboard shortcut to move a Window (for example, Dolphin or
Firefox)
2. Move Window to any other spot on the desktop, and left click the mouse.
3. Now the window is in a new spot, move the mouse around and you will see it
is pointing at things that are not under the cursor.

OBSERVED RESULT
Mouse cursor does not match the physical location within the window. In order
to get your mouse back to be pointing at the correct spot of the Window, you
have to move the cursor out of the window, and then move the mouse back into
the window.

EXPECTED RESULT
Mouse cursor should be interacting with elements that are directly under the
mouse cursor within the window.

[neon] [Bug 481148] New: Main Enter key not responsive at login screen

2024-02-09 Thread Brett Morgan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481148

Bug ID: 481148
Summary: Main Enter key not responsive at login screen
Classification: KDE Neon
   Product: neon
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Neon
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: neon-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: cgho...@gmail.com
CC: j...@jriddell.org, neon-b...@kde.org, sit...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Upon loging in the KDE Neon Plasma version 6.0.80 the main Enter key is
unresponsive. It works perfectly fine after logging in. Using the Enter key on
the Numpad works fine.
NOTE: If you are reporting a crash, please try to attach a backtrace with debug
symbols.
See
https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. every login session
2. Enter key works as normal once logged in.

OBSERVED RESULT
Enter key on main section of keyboard not sending enter signaL to system.
Regular keys to enter my password work fine. Only the Enter key on the numpad
will result in me beina able to login to plasma.

EXPECTED RESULT
This is not an intermittent result, it happens everytimer I login in, the Enter
key issue and the HDMI connected monitor reverting back to a 1024x768
resolution

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma: Unstable Edition
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.80
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.0.0
Qt Version: 6.6.1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Possibly related (already reported) on my dual 49" widescreen displays (NVIDIA
GeForce RTX 3060 Ti/PCIe/SSE2) the HDMI connected monitor is sometimes not
detected(seems to bge fixed lately), and always reverts back to 1024x768
resolution from 5120x1440. I'm logging in with X11 and I have saved Xorg.conf
to etc/X11 but not sure its being used.(nvidia-settings asks for root password
when saving xorg.conf)
Keryboard layout is standard US keyboard.

[krusader] [Bug 445549] kioslave5 blocking umount

I've been plagued by this same flaw for a long time now, but really didn't have
anything substantive to contribute until now.

A system at work has Ubuntu 20.04 on it with Krusader 2.7.2-1. It does not
have this problem.

My home system has Ubuntu 22.04 on it with Krusader 2.7.2-1. It does have the
issue.

---

Here are the packages I have installed that match the pattern 'kio':

kio-extras-data/jammy,jammy,now 4:21.12.3-0ubuntu1 all [installed,automatic]
kio-extras/jammy,now 4:21.12.3-0ubuntu1 amd64 [installed,automatic]
kio/jammy,now 5.92.0-0ubuntu1 amd64 [installed,automatic]
libkf5kiocore5/jammy,now 5.92.0-0ubuntu1 amd64 [installed,automatic]
libkf5kiofilewidgets5/jammy,now 5.92.0-0ubuntu1 amd64 [installed,automatic]
libkf5kiogui5/jammy,now 5.92.0-0ubuntu1 amd64 [installed,automatic]
libkf5kiontlm5/jammy,now 5.92.0-0ubuntu1 amd64 [installed,automatic]
libkf5kiowidgets5/jammy,now 5.92.0-0ubuntu1 amd64 [installed,automatic]

On the unaffected system at work, these are the versions of the above packages:
kio-extras - 4.19.12.3a
kio-extras-data - 4.19.12.3a
kio - 5.68.6
libkf5kiocore5 - 5.68.0
libkf5kiofilewidgets5 - 5.68.0
libkf5kiogui5 - 5.68.0
libkf5kiontlm5 - 5.68.0
libkf5kiowidgets5 - 5.68.0

There is also a qml-module-org-kde-kio package at version 5.68.0 that is not
installed on my home machine.

---

Honestly, I do not know what most of these packages do or how they interact
with one another, but it at least narrows down things a bit. Unfortunately,
ubuntu does not like people installing old packages and so I cannot easily
install old versions on my home machine to isolate it further.

# apt list --all-versions kio
Listing... Done
kio/jammy,now 5.92.0-0ubuntu1 amd64 [installed,automatic]

Is there a repository of .deb files with older versions of these kio libraries?
If so, I'd be willing to play on my home laptop to figure out what version it
was introduced in, though only if there's a reasonable chance of getting it
fixed... this bug has been open for well over 2 years and there doesn't seem to
be any activity on it.

Well, I installed the app as a test and did an ExifTool export. With our BQM in
digiKam, it would not be difficult to integrate this function with ExifTool.
The question would be, what settings do you expect in the BQM tool, for sure
for the JSON file in question? Do you already create the file names of the
scans with the sequential image number so that it matches the JSON file?

Currently for shortcuts we rely on Qt keys, which doesn't have the XF86_RFKILL
key. So on that front there is a similar problem as in 475574.

On the other hand I think exposing a shortcut for toggling airplane mode is
probably reasonable and quite doable.

x86 regtest: fix clobber lists in generated asm statements

Must add result registers also, or else code like this is generated:

  asm(
 "fsave %3\n"
 "movl %2, %%eax\n"
 "cdq\n"
 "movl %%edx, %0\n"
 "movl %%eax, %1\n"
 "frstor %3\n"
 "cld\n"
 : "=m" (result0), "=m" (result1)
 : "m" (preset0), "m" (state[0])
 : "eax"
  );

This crashes on my machine because gcc places some pointer in %%edx.

sorry to reopen: but still not working correctly:

in my config, i had more than one include and now i have according to man,
more than one file defined within a single include.
The problem is, only the first included file gets resolved properly, the rest
goes into error with 'host definition not found'

According to the man pages of ssh_config:
Include
Include the specified configuration file(s). Multiple pathnames
may be specified and each pathname may contain glob(7) wildcards
and, for user configurations, shell-like ‘~’ references to user
home directories. Wildcards will be expanded and processed in lex‐
ical order. Files without absolute paths are assumed to be in
~/.ssh if included in a user configuration file or /etc/ssh if in‐
cluded from the system configuration file. Include directive
may appear inside a Match or Host block to perform conditional inclu‐
   sion.

My config is spread over several files.
If i include them with wildcards, then all of them work.
But not if they are specified in a list...

2024-02-09 Thread Matej Starc
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481145

Bug ID: 481145
Summary: Crash or freeze after listening to a podcast for a
while
Classification: Applications
   Product: kasts
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Android
OS: Android 13.x
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: b...@mogwai.be
  Reporter: matej.st...@protonmail.com

Having kasts open for some time makes it freeze or crash. If it freezes, the
audio still plays in the background. The app unfreezes if you press on a widget
(button) or do any action that does some visual change as well.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open kasts
2. Listen to kasts
3. Wait till it crashes/freezes

OBSERVED RESULT
Kasts either crashes or freezes. You can unfreeze it by switching to another
view.
