[systemsettings] [Bug 482934] New: "Set for all screens" only affects the current activity

2024-03-08 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=482934

Bug ID: 482934
Summary: "Set for all screens" only affects the current
activity
Classification: Applications
   Product: systemsettings
   Version: 6.0.1
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kcm_wallpaper
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: bastimeyer...@gmail.com
CC: me...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When trying to change wallpaper settings using the newly added wallpaper kcm
and the "Set for all screens" checkbox is enabled, changes are only applied to
the screens of the current activity. I noticed that after trying to change the
slideshow timer. To my surprise, the timers of the screens of my secondary
activity were not updated. If this is an intended feature, then this is
unnecessarily confusing.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have more than one activity set up
2. Go to the wallpaper kcm in the system settings
3. Enable the "Set for all screens" checkbox at the top and apply changes

OBSERVED RESULT
Only the screens of the current activity are affected

EXPECTED RESULT
It should affect all screens on all activities

[Powerdevil] [Bug 482935] New: Weird screen black out when playing media with power saving options

2024-03-08 Thread Mahbod Karamoozian

Bug ID: 482935
Summary: Weird screen black out when playing media with power
saving options
Classification: Plasma
   Product: Powerdevil
   Version: 6.0.1
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: backslashvor...@gmail.com
CC: m...@ratijas.tk, natalie_clar...@yahoo.de
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When you play media generally the idea is that you have no peripheral activity
but you don't want the screen to go dark or the computer to suspend due to
power saving measures since you want to play the media but something that has
regressed in plasma as of plasma 6 is that the power saving process acts a bit
weird when you play media but have no peripheral activity (when no media is
played or media is paused the behavior is normal)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set a screen turn off option in power saving settings to trigger in set time
2. Open a browser instance playing YouTube for example
3. Wait for the set time with no activity but keep the media playing in
foreground

OBSERVED RESULT
Screen blacks out with cursor still visible and brightness unmodified then
after 10 seconds everything comes back

EXPECTED RESULT
No screen blacking out

I do not run Plasma6 currently but I can explain it a bit more. I have
everything default so screenshots should not be necessary.

By default new apps appear on the right, where they pop up. When I right click
on panel, hover over the "icons only bar" and go to its configuration, I see
that the default is "new apps appear on the left" which is not correct.

Now I thought "this must be a bug" and changed that default to "new apps appear
on the right" which made them appear on the left.

It seems in the default icons-only app bar, the sides "left" and "right" are
either not translated correctly (germen locale) or are actually swapped, while
the settings work as expected but names are swapped.

Operating System: Linux 6.5.0-25-generic x86_64
Windowing System: Wayland
Distribution: KDE neon 6.0
DrKonqi: 6.0.0 [KCrashBackend]

-- Information about the crash:
I was dumping old CDs off of a usb dvd drive to images, for archival purposes.
After finishing the raw dump via command line tools (which just reads the block
device), and then copying the resultant image files to storage via Dolphin over
cifs kio, I briefly checked that the media had not been mounted (it hadn't) and
pressed the physical eject button on the drive to get my disc back.

Dolphin immediately crashed with the following stack trace.

I can reproduce this somewhat reliably, as it does not systematically occurs,
but reoccurs the majority of the time.
I in fact did it just now by reinserting the physical media, starting dolphin,
waiting for everything to settle (not mounting anything) and just hitting the
eject button.

If it helps, since Dolphin helpfully reads the disk labels and presents them in
the side bar for easy mounting, the media was an Apple HFS disk.

I am unsure of how much this helps, but here is the disk layout and properties:

--- /dev/sr0

Just found out that when I disable hardware decoding, it works the same as mpv.
And mpv is not using hardware decoding by default, it seems. So I have to look
for a solution to force using iGPU instead of nVidia.

After having installed NeoChat using the procedure for flathub, configuring my
account and the interface (dark theme), I've closed it and on all the following
startups NeoChat keeped crashing because of an assertion error.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. install NeoChat using the "download on flathub" button here and follow the
procedure https://apps.kde.org/neochat/ (stable version)
2. connect my account on matrix.org
3. configure the theme to be dark mode
4. close NeoChat
5. relaunch NeoChat
6. it crashes during startup

I'm honestly not convinced at all that step 2 and 3 having any impact here.
According to the log it's very possible that a specific configuration for a
specific room is the source of the problem but I don't know how to get access
to more information.

Here is the log observed in the shell:

This is accurate. I will post a screenshot shortly.

I mean the dolphin view of the filesystem -- the Details View Mode. I realize
now that I am assuming without evidence that it displaying "0 items" under size
is related to the behavior in the terminal panel. I have no direct reason to
know that the two are related, and I completely understand why directory
contents are not scanned until opened on remote filesystems.

This makes sense to me. I do not know fuse (other than as a user), and I may
have erroneously assumed the error was related to presenting a empty directory
within the mount.

Thank you all for a prompt response; I've been using KDE since prior to the
release of KDE 1.0, and I have always appreciated the work everybody has done
and will do. I will take screenshots and any other requested documentation in
the next couple hours when I am able to do so.

After further testing, it definitely survives plasmashell restarting, but I
know sometimes when it starts working. I would open the system tray and end the
permission for it. Hoping that it would pop up again the next time I tried to
use it. Thus fixing the problem. Whenever it stops working, I can usually get
it to work again and give me the popup again by killing the kdeconnectd process

[KScreen] [Bug 482939] New: Screen Layouts Not Remembered

2024-03-08 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=482939

Bug ID: 482939
   Summary: Screen Layouts Not Remembered
Classification: Plasma
   Product: KScreen
   Version: 6.0.1
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: common
  Assignee: kscreen-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: damon.dev...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
After upgrading to Plasma 6.0.1, my monitor layouts are no longer remembered as
they were on Plasma 5.

Example: I run two 32:9 monitors, and regularly use the split screen function.
On Plasma 5, it would automatically switch my display settings back to
5120x1440 with other settings such as layout and refresh rate restored. With
Plasma 6, the monitor stays at 2560x1440 and I have to manually go into display
settings every time to change it back.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use the split screen option on a monitor that supports it
2. Switch it back to full screen

OBSERVED RESULT
The screen settings stay at the split 2560x1440

EXPECTED RESULT
The screen layout returning to what it was prior to using the monitor's split
screen function

Syslog of crash after login when monitor is connected from boot

SUMMARY

Upon having a monitor connected under Wayland and Nvidia proprietary, wayland
and/or kwin_wayland immediately crashes.

Having the monitor disconnected allows normal login and usage. GPU can be used
as normal.

Having the monitor connected, even if it is disabled through KDE settings,
immedietely crashes and sends me back to the login screen. Disconnecting the
monitor allows logging back in without issue. Disconnecting the monitor during
the crash allows plasma to recover, probably from the retries.

Suspending to ram, connecting the monitor, and waking the computer back up does
not have any effect, nor is the monitor recognised as being plugged in.

This monitor works on other computers. I have tried HDMI and HDMI over USB-C,
both with the same result.

Modeset DRM and FBDev are turned on in grub kernel parameters. I have also
attempted these tests with FBDev off and both off. I have also attempted
renaming the kwin settings folder to force a re-generation.

To my knowledge, this did not occur under Plasma 5

This crash does not occur on Nouveau drivers, nor on X11.

Attached are two sets of logs, one with the monitor connected from boot and
logging in, and the other plugging in the monitor after boot and login. Crash
dumps are included within. Debug symbols are being an absolute pain to install,
and are right now not included. I will continue attempting to get a proper
backtrace and will update this post.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Plug in an external monitor

[kwin] [Bug 482418] Desktop Grid Layout Preference to Ignore the Pager layout possible in Plasma 6?

I'm also affected by this regression.

I'm on a laptop with a relatively small screen with 4 workspaces in a row.
Using the Desktop Grid in Plasma 6 doesn't show the desktops in the most screen
space-efficient manner possible, like it did in Plasma 5.

As a result, I have trouble seeing what windows are in what workspaces, which
wasn't a problem in Plasma 5.

[kwin] [Bug 475077] Show non-linear virtual desktop arrangements again

2024-03-08 Thread Prajna Sariputra
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=475077

> what if, when you start dragging a window, the effect automatically switches
> to the desktop grid so that it's easier to drop in to another desktop? (and,
> why would you be drag-and-dropping a window on the Overview anyway, without
> the desktop bar?)

While that would improve the usefulness of the overview with a grid of
desktops, it would still be missing the ability of switching virtual desktops
with just the mouse, especially since for hot corners and edges triggering the
effect twice to get to the grid doesn't work, and assigning the hot corner to
the grid rather than the overview (only possible in 6.1) means that the KRunner
powered search isn't accessible.

While there are of course other ways of using just the mouse to switch desktops
(pager widget, scrolling on the desktop background if that's enabled, assigning
the grid to a different corner/edge), what I loved about the Plasma 5 overview
is that it was a one stop shop for everything: app launching, app switching,
desktop switching, moving apps between desktops, and everything else KRunner
can do, instead of having to go to the other separate places to do these things
(Kickoff, Alt+Tab app switcher, task manager widget, pager widget, grid
effect).

Also, the reason I'm using a grid of desktops (2 rows, 3 columns in my case)
instead of having them all in one row/column is that with wraparound enabled it
only takes me 2 touchpad gestures (or switch to left/right/up/down desktop
shortcut) at most to get from one desktop to any other one of the 6, and 3 of
the desktops are always accessible with just one gesture/shortcut. If the 2D
gestures support comes in then that would make all the desktops accessible with
just one gesture with my grid setup.

> and what is supposed to happen, after dropping it? Will the grid remain open?
> will the overview be shown again? with the same VD focused or the one where
> the window was dropped?

Currently if the desktop bar is visible dragging and dropping a window into
another virtual desktop will not change the current VD (say if you're in VD1
and you drop a window to VD3 then the overview would stay at VD1), so to
maintain that sort of behavior after dropping a window the overview should be
shown again at the same VD the user started at. That would have a disadvantage
of a lot of stuff moving around on screen all the time if someone has say 4
windows in one VD and wants to move all of them into other VDs though.

[xdg-desktop-portal-kde] [Bug 480235] Persistence in the remote desktop portal does not work across reboots

2024-03-08 Thread Prajna Sariputra
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=480235

Oh, if you're using KDE Connect and you're stopping the remote control session
via the system tray icon then I think that's actually a problem from the KDE
Connect side, I don't think it has support for automatically restarting the
remote control session if the user stopped it manually at the moment, so KDE
Connect will just try (and fail) to use the old cancelled session, and you
won't see a notification or permissions dialog until you restart kdeconnectd
and try using remote input again.

Ok, so I definitely shouldn't do that anymore. Now all that is left to solve is
why it stops working sometimes.

[Breeze] [Bug 482941] New: App icons in system tray not inheriting correct colors

2024-03-08 Thread Saul Fautley
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=482941

Bug ID: 482941
Summary: App icons in system tray not inheriting correct colors
Classification: Plasma
   Product: Breeze
   Version: 6.0.1
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Icons
  Assignee: visual-des...@kde.org
  Reporter: saulfaut...@gmail.com
CC: kain...@gmail.com, m...@nueljl.in
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 166755
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=166755&action=edit
Different colored app icons in system tray

SUMMARY
App icons in the system tray appear to be inheriting colors from global theme
"Colors" instead of colors from the "Plasma Style".

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Select Colors: Breeze
2. Select Plasma Style: Breeze Dark
3. Select Icons: Breeze or Breeze Dark
4. Run an app with a symbolic system tray icon (e.g.
"headset-charge-indicator", or "solaar" if you have a Logitech mouse).

OBSERVED RESULT
App icons in the system tray using symbolic icons are dark colored and
difficult to see, unlike the other light colored system icons such as Audio and
Network. Screenshot attached.

Changing global theme Colors to "Breeze Dark" changes these icons correctly to
light colored (make sure to hover over the icons so they update). Evidently
these icons appear to be inheriting the text color from the selected global
theme colors.

EXPECTED RESULT
App icons in the system tray should inherit colors from the selected "Plasma
Style", just like system icons do. They should not inherit colors from global
theme "Colors". Or at the very least they should all inherit colors from the
same place.

This happens on X11 only, wayland does not work for me, black screen is the
only output. I found the solution for this wayland issue, haven't tweaked my
system yet.

Only the panel is changing, background images and desktop icons stay in place.
I checked the screen configs after the bug, all screen configs did not changed,
primary one was the same, but taskbar was in the non primary one.

when the desktop volume is changed by either rolling the mouse wheel when
hovering over the volume or sliding the volume.
I’ve set the System Sounds in pavucontrol (pulseaudio volume control) to 0%
volume and muted it but the sounds still occurs. I also unchecked the “Enable
notification sounds” checkbox in “global themes”-> "System Sounds" but I think
that’s unrelated to System Sounds.

qpwgraph shows that when the sound is produced it's coming from libcanberra
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install Fedora 40 Develop OS, upgrade via 'dnf upgrade' afterwards to KDE
6.0.1
2. Turn off System Sounds in Pulseaudio Volume Control Playback tab by muting
"System Sounds"
3. Change desktop Volume via the taskbar volume (roll mouse wheel over the
widget or slide slider)

OBSERVED RESULT
Changing the desktop volume via the volume widget results in a system sound
even if system sounds was muted

EXPECTED RESULT
System Sounds should not occur if System Sounds is muted

[kdenlive] [Bug 482555] Pressing "Z" (not ctrl + z) UNDO/REMOVE work done on timeline (and it's not even a shortcut!).

Ok. As it turns out, pressing "Z" is bound to "remove zone from timeline". I
didn't see before while trying to disable, it's not listed here
https://docs.kdenlive.org/en/user_interface/shortcuts.html. I just disabled it.
This is "fixed"
