--- Comment #62 from Michael Hamilton  ---
I saw this happen this evening on 6.0.3 (Tumbleweed 20240328, X11, nvidia
550.54). After returning to my PC, the lock screen was blank, but the arrow
cursor was moveable. I used alt-ctrl-f1 to a console and then "loginctl
unlock-session N" as a workaround. It seems to be happening about one time in
ten.

More interestly this also happened to another desktop in the home which is
still on KDE5. On this other KDE5 based PC it's been happening much less often,
perhaps once a month. Could the origin of this bug be something that has been
lurking since KDE5 but changes have now caused it to occur more frequently?

Seeing that this appeared on Qt4 based Amarok and there have been no reports

likely fixed by the 4->5 port. Please do not hesitate to reopen if you still

Testing on Amarok 2.9.71+ and Dolphin 23.08.4 / Plasma 5.27.10, Amarok folder
view follows the system setting.
Changing the click mode in KDE System Settings makes Amarok immediately follow
the new setting, without even needing a program restart. Was likely related to
4->5 changes and differences, but not relevant anymore with KF5 based 2.9.71+.

[kdevelop] [Bug 482983] Meson project with missing dependency re configures in infinite loop

2024-03-30 Thread Igor Kushnir
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=482983

--- Comment #7 from Igor Kushnir  ---
I cannot reproduce the infinite loop when I add a bogus dependency to the
simple meson project created from a KDevelop template
(Standard=>Terminal=>Meson C++):
```
+ bb=dependency('missingd', version:'>=5.0')
 executable('kdev-meson-cpp-test-project',
'main.cpp',
include_directories : incdir
+   , dependencies : bb
```

The configuration job fails once and is not restarted:
```
Run-time dependency missingd found: NO (tried pkgconfig and cmake)
meson.build:15:3: ERROR: Dependency "missingd" not found, tried pkgconfig and
cmake
A full log can be found at
/path/to/kdev-meson-cpp-test-project/build/meson-logs/meson-log.txt
*** Failure: Exit code 1 ***
```

Is some additional configuration of the project or KDevelop needed?

Git commit 7ec45dddb109fd391b900dad8705dacd4088a3c3 by Tuomas Nurmi.
Committed on 30/03/2024 at 09:36.
Pushed by nurmi into branch 'master'.

Fix a crash in collection filter date selection.

KPopupFrame needs to have MainWidget set nowadays. Do that to avoid crash
on any click on date selectors in collection filter builder.

There still seems to be something not totally correct with the actual date
filtering, but that can be fixed later.

[digikam] [Bug 484743] New: Face recognition, new run, new assignment

2024-03-30 Thread Andy
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=484743

Bug ID: 484743
   Summary: Face recognition, new run, new assignment
Classification: Applications
   Product: digikam
   Version: 8.4.0
  Platform: Microsoft Windows
OS: Microsoft Windows
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Faces-Recognition
  Assignee: digikam-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: zu...@gmx.de
  Target Milestone: ---

Hello,
The question is just for my understanding.
With face recognition, an extremely large number of faces are incorrectly
assigned to a person. Let's say a total of 19000 unconfirmed faces. If I assign
some of the faces of the 19,000 photos to the correct person and start face
recognition again, will the remaining 18,900 faces be analyzed again and
possibly moved to other people? Maybe even ignored if I previously ignored
faces that looked the same?
I couldn't find anything about it in the manual.

Regards
Andy

[neon] [Bug 484744] New: Desktop icons (all links and some widgets) get resorted, rearranged and relocated on every switch on / off of monitor

2024-03-30 Thread Oleksiy
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=484744

Bug ID: 484744
   Summary: Desktop icons (all links and some widgets) get
resorted, rearranged and relocated on every switch on
/ off of monitor
Classification: KDE Neon
   Product: neon
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Neon
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Packages User Edition
  Assignee: neon-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: os.subscript...@gmail.com
CC: j...@jriddell.org, neon-b...@kde.org, sit...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Desktop icons (all links and some widgets) get resorted, rearranged and
relocated on every switch on / off of my monitor

Detailed Description:
When I switch / turn my monitor off and on again, icons get resorted,
rearranged and relocated up, without my volition. This happens on physical
button switch off / on of the monitor. The computer is not switched off, only
the monitor is switched off / on. The events of: (a) automatic energy saving
switch off, (b) the sleep on / wake up, (c) the PC reboot, - do not trigger the
bug. Only the physical monitor switch off / on messes the icons. Icons behave
this way upon two steps (switches) until they get fully arranged in two lines
on the top of the screen. On the first switch off/on, they get partly
rearranged in the middle of the screen, and on the second switch off/on, they
all get to the top in two lines.

This bug affects all icon links and some widgets. As regards the widgets, for
example, the sticky note is not affected, i.e. not moved up on monitor switch
off/on event. However, the TrashCan widget does get resorted and is moved up.
On the right mouse click on the Desktop I set icons to be unsorted and
unlocked, so nothing wrong I do on my side.
Icons get resorted and arranged in the lines alphabetically, except for the
Trash can which is treated as a folder and put first.

I installed KDE Neon on HDD like a month ago, and fully upgraded and updated it
as of now. Right before installation I used to have Kali Linux with KDE Plazma
- and I did not have this bug issue, all icons remained where they should be,
no matter the monitor switch off / on. I tried to log in KDE Neon to x11
session (instead of Wayland), - but the bug in x11 remains as in Wayland.
However, when logged in KDE Neon to Xfce session, the bug disappears, and all
icons remain where they should be no matter the monitor switch off / on action.
I also tried it now on Live Kali Linux running GNOME in Virtual Box, and
separately, ran Windows 11 on this PC motherboard from another HDD, - as a
result, both these systems do not care for the monitor switch off/on. They save
the locations of icons as the user defined alright. So this KDE Neon Wayland
icons' resorting, rearranging and relocating is indeed a bug, and this bug does
not seem to be an intentional behavior designed by developers or an industry
standard, please correct me if I am wrong. I never had issues with Mesa Intel®
HD Graphics 4600 drivers as well, as I can run some basic games alright. So
this issue should not be connected with drivers either.

May be there is some some config file that does not have enough access rights
to get saved, I do not know.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Switch off the monitor (not the PC) by hand (not by a program), then switch
the monitor back on.
2. Repeat the step 1 once again.

OBSERVED RESULT
Icons (all links and some widgets) get resorted, rearranged in two lines and
get relocated to the top of the screen.

EXPECTED RESULT
Icons (all links and all widgets) should remain on the screen in the location
where a user placed them.

Inactive state of Media Player and Media Player Plus widgets

SUMMARY
I've stopped using the Media Player widget that comes as part of KDE Plasma,
and switched to the Media Player+ widget because I think it's what KDE Plasma's
default Media Player widget should be. It not only offers a better, more
feature-rich, and customizable interface for wider panels (e.g. a sidebar on
the right edge of the screen), but also behaves and looks better (and not
buggy) when inactive.

When inactive, KDE Plasma's integrated Media Player widget not only displays a
large symbolic icon (media-play-stop or media-playback-paused), but also fails
to display the context menu (Show Alternatives / Add Widgets / Enter Edit
Mode), which must be a BUG.

In that state, Media Player+ however not only displays the expected context
menu, including an option to configure the widget, but also it doesn't display
such a meaningless large symbolic icon in the place reserved for album art,
keeping it blank with only a caption "No media playing" below.

I hope KDE Plasma developers team takes some action about the future
development of this widget as part of KDE Plasma in view of this.

On Plasma 6.0.3 the pixels are less noticeable, but still present.

A small update, Plasma has been updated to 6.0.3, pixels on the bottom edge are
less noticeable, but still present. I can confirm that changing the scaling to
160% or 130% eliminates this problem, but it is not a solution.

Does the build/meson-info/meson-info.json file exist? It occurred for a
project (https://github.com/horizon-eda/horizon) that was already imported and
built but then I updated a library version that meson could not find.

Ok, it was more complicated to reproduce:

1. Create the project using the meson template
2. Build the project
3. Add a line in meson.build to introduce an error like a non-existent library
or missing version
4. Run prune
5. Run build or configure again and the loop should start

There may be an better/easier way to fix it since it seems like a race
condition because there is a watch on create and dirty it so the job appears to
be running twice in parallel.

In opposite, ExifTool as this option from the command line. I don't remember if

That's about making dolphin UI responsive all right.

When should it hide the places panel then ?
When only n pixels are available ? x rows are visible in the view ? How would
it interact with the zoom ?
In details mode the question is very different, information being much more
dense there.

I am guessing the information panel could be in scope here.

[krita] [Bug 484750] New: Different behaviours of 'close' in the Edit Text dialog

2024-03-30 Thread jimbo
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=484750

Bug ID: 484750
   Summary: Different behaviours of 'close' in the Edit Text
dialog
Classification: Applications
   Product: krita
   Version: 5.2.2
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Tool/Text
  Assignee: krita-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: loudsq...@tutanota.com
  Target Milestone: ---

In the Edit Text, hitting the 'Close' button will switch back to the selection
tool. This is unexpected behaviour, I would expect to stay on the Text tool
after closing out of the Edit Text.

However, if you close the window (not via the 'Close' button) it will stay on
the Text tool. This is inconsistent on the users end. Changing the 'close'
behaviour to return to the text tool not the selection tool would solve the
inconsistency between the two close methods result in expected behaviour.

Also is there any real reason to have a 'save' button? Shouldn't it
automatically save after every keypress?

Video date-time is another big problem. We try to identify well-known cameras
or manufacturers to convert from UTC or not. First of all, I don't know of any
video files that contain time zone information. We can assume with Apple and
Quicktime that it is a UTC date, just like with Android. This is a big problem
with camera devices. Some use UTC but store local dates, others the other way
around. I can see if I can include Ricoh in the detection.

Created attachment 167939
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=167939&action=edit
PANO images are shown as video clips of 5' duration.

When opening a project that had panoramic .jpeg images referenced in the source
explorer, they all now appear like a white clip of 5:00 seconds with 2 black
stripes on top and bottom.
They used to be supported (and seen as images) fine in 23.08 version ; I can't
tell when this regression happened.
The panoramic images seem to be considered like video clips and under the
"properties" panel, the video codec is the MJPEG (which is indeed useless for a
picture).

I believe either kdenlive or MLT defaults to video clips for some reason, hence
the confusion.

Well, this report is not about the right detection of type of device in
relation to UTC (a big problem, I agree). It is about once Digikam make the
decision to consider the dates as local time dates for a given file, it should
to apply this decision on all dates displayed in the metadata panel for this

[dolphin] [Bug 455645] Tooltip frequently covers filenames when it appears

2024-03-30 Thread bugzilla_noreply

--- Comment #11 from g...@section9.follonica.org ---
I agree that the way tooltips cover a big area of the screen is a regression of
useability to such an extent that it is impossibile to look at other items in
the file list without having to move the pointer out of the folder pane.
Tooltips should be much less intrusive and appear only when hovering over the
filename and not on the whole row if that is feasable.
If I want to have full information then I activate the information pane with
F11. Displaying the same information on the tooltips is a duplicate of a
functionality that masks some usability weakness.

I still have to make sure that tooltips are disabled on dolphin 24.02.1.

Git commit ee7cbc1f75df67653c017cb697e28be74064f0dc by Méven Car, on behalf of
Alexander Johansen.
Committed on 30/03/2024 at 12:54.
Pushed by meven into branch 'master'.

Use locales date in Git log

This tells Git to use the system locale for its date instead of hard-coding a
format.

Could a duplicate of

Manifesting the issue at a different stage.

I would be very curious to know whether after KDE Frameworks 6.1 the issue is
fixed.

Screenshot of error message

Backslash or not does not make any difference. It seems that the click on a
folder does not return the proper folder name
If I go to the location bar and complete webdavs://webdav.mc.gmx.net/GNUHealth/
it determines the folder while I type and is able to change into that folder.
