(In reply to Stefano Crocco from comment #3)
> Unfortunately, the changes I made to make the white flash disappear had
> several unwanted consequences, so I'll have to remove or at least refine
> them. However, I'd like to better understand something: when you say you use
> a dark theme in Konqueror, do you mean you set a custom stylesheet (using
> the appearance page in Konqueror configuration dialog) or that you chose a
> dark colour theme for your desktop environment? In my tests, using a dark
> desktop theme doesn't have any effect on the colour of web pages: page
> background is still white and text is still black.

"do you mean you set a custom stylesheet" yes, that's what i mean. a dark
background and a white text color.

SUMMARY
Ever since an update a couple of days ago, my KDE desktop has been crashing
significantly. I'm not sure of the exact update that causes the issue but on
Plasma Wayland the Kwin process has started crashing when doing certain
actions. Specifically alt-tabbing and dragging a window to the top of the
screen to maximize it causes crashes. A backtrace is attached. X11 Plasma does
not cause Kwin crashes.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Start Plasma with Wayland
2. Drag a window to the top of the screen to maximize it

OBSERVED RESULT
Crash

EXPECTED RESULT
No crash

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

KDE Frameworks Version: 6.1.0

GPU: Nvidia RTX 2070

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I'm also having issues with icons in the taskbar jumping around on hover but I
don't know if those are related to this issue or not. This also also appears on
X11 as well as Wayland.

Mixed light/dark theme example

SUMMARY
Whenever using Breeze Dark, certain tools and applications get mixed light/dark
color themes like with System Settings, Emoji Selector, Spectacle, and Elisa.
This has been a reoccurring issue for us since the KDE Plasma 6.0.0 release and
we also couldn't figure out what's the cause. At the moment, we're using this
forked ports tree to test for Plasma 6 before merging their ports to the
upstream ports tree:
https://github.com/freebsd/freebsd-ports-kde/tree/kde-it_goes_to_6

The attached window screenshot serves as an example of the issue.

SUMMARY
under wayland, I use a floating panel with only the task manager (icons only)
as a latte dock replacement. I have it set to be centered and auto adjust. when
I login to plasma, it has the wrong size and sets my icons to the left. this
didn't happened before.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. make a floating panel that will contain the pinned and opened apps, center
it to create a dock.
2. login with wayland session
3. the bug happens

OBSERVED RESULT

the only fix is to open edit mode then escape. but the bug will show up next
login or boot.
EXPECTED RESULT
have no issue but a dock/panel with the correct size and padding.

apt source fcitx5-qt and use dpkg-buildpackage, you probably want to look up
how to build it and you'll also hit some deb lint error...

I'm not so sure how neon build the new version of package without
https://invent.kde.org/neon/backports-jammy/fcitx5-qt updated with debian
upstream.. but it might be a good idea to sync with upstream debian/ in the
next update..

SUMMARY

when managing files or folders on the plasma desktop, and deleting them, the
desktop makes a duplicate of a folder that you can't interact with, and if you
have a .desktop file that links to trash:/ , with custom or vanilla icons, it
doesn't refresh properly. it only refreshes when changing how the icons are
organized.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. extract or make a folder on the desktop and create files on the desktop
2. send the folder to the trash
3. the desktop makes a duplicate icon of the folder, that you can't interact
with, and if you have the trash as a .desktop icon, it doesn't update the icon
properly.

OBSERVED RESULT
unless you restart plasma or change how icons are arranged, it refreshes to
some degree but the desktop icon for trash.

EXPECTED RESULT
have the desktop refresh instantly when managing files or folders, and have the
.desktop file that links to the trash also reflect the full empty status just
like on dolphin.

Does that only happen while the video is full screen, and does it go away if

I don't think so, but GPU driver bugs are sometimes triggered by specific
patterns in how rendering is done, or by buffer formats (like 10 bits per color
with KWin vs 8 with other compositors), there can be many differences that can
make one happen or not happen.

Anyways, total system freezes like that are always kernel bugs; if it seems GPU
driver related you can directly create the an issue on drm,/amd about it in the
future

I'm unsure if I'm in the right place and I have no idea how things work around
here exactly, but I wanted to share some observation I made in this matter and
thought this should be a good place for it. Please tell if I should put this
somewhere else.

Rebooting didn't work for me, so I had to poke around a little more. Following
are the steps that worked for me:
- renamed .local to .local.backup
- closed dolphin and opened it again
- a new .local-folder got added
- added the WebFolder anew and got asked for the credentials again
- connection successful
- reviewed the content of new .local
  - folders: baloo, dolphin, kate, kwalletd, remoteview, Trash
  - files: krunnerstaterc, recently-used.xbel, user-places.xbel,
user-places.xbel.bak, user-places.xbel.tbcache
- figured folders kwalletd and remoteview might be relevant
- in .local.backup: renamed kwalletd and remoteview to kwalletd.backup and
remoteview.backup
- renamed .local to .l and .local.backup to .local again
- closed dolphin and opened it again
- added the WebFolder anew
- didn't got asked for credentials again
- connection successful
- in .local: a new remoteview-folder got created but no new kwalletd

I don't really know what's going on. First I thought the credentials were in
.local somewhere, as I was asked to enter them again after renaming it. After
reverting the name, I didn't have to give the credentials again, but the
connection worked anyway. So the credentials could not have been in .local,
otherwise it would have taken the wrong old ones right? I think the credentials
might be saved somewhere else and .local only "knows" where. So new .local
didn't know the place and asked for credentials, but then saved them in the
same place = overwriting the old credentials. So old .local looked where it
"thought" to have stored the old credentials and found the new ones. Does this
make any sense?

SUMMARY

I have logged this in the past just after launch of Plasma 6. It looks like
some things were done but this has not resolved the issue. I think this was
linked to 479712.

Can you place this ticket in the correct queue for the appropriate dev? I
assume it is the Icon Theme dev.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Keep KDE Neon up-to-date daily
2. Install Icon Theme - We10X
3. Click Apply

OBSERVED RESULT

Several of the icons in the system tray appear as question marked page icon.

EXPECTED RESULT

Would expect Icons to appear as normal

-- Information about the crash:
I right clicked and opened Konsole in a directory, then I ran xz on a file.
Dolphin immediately crashed when I hit enter.

I think it might have something to do with getting file statistics (mainly file
size because that constantly updates when compressing a file), but that's just
a hunch. I'm not a programmer.

The reporter is unsure if this crash is reproducible.

If you open any Kirigami app (Kirigami Gallery, Discover) and tab your way
through the UI, at least the toolbuttons on the tool bar won't show a
decoration.

It works on widgets applications with breeze.
It works if I set QT_QUICK_CONTROLS_STYLE=org.kde.breeze.
It doesn't work if I change the QStyle to a different one.

Sorry, I now discovered, that the option "keep launchers separated" does what I
want. But it does not apply immediately, I had to restart some applications to
see it working, so I first thought, it does something else. Perhaps this could
be a reminder, to fix this (apply option immediately, or at least display a
warning about that)

In kde 5, when I start a pinned launcher, the icon moves into the taskbar, and
hides from the pinned-launchers, until the application quits.

In kde 6, my taskbar starts to get full now very early, when I start some of my
pinned applications.

I did not find an option to revert the behaviour like before.

Discover Font Rendering

SUMMARY
Some text is rendered with unusual artifacting at certain window sizes when
using fractional scaling. The width/position of the containing element is also
likely to play a role.

When resizing the window, the text will jump around a little bit to the sides
as it goes between being artifacted and rendering correctly. However, if you
resize the window and get one part of the application to look correct, other
parts will not look correct, causing a constant game of cat-and-mouse. I have
not yet found a window size that renders correctly.

On a display without fractional scaling, text renders correctly.

This affects the following software:
- Discover
- NeoChat (resizing doesn't always help in the case of the "About KDE" section,
where the text is always rendered with artifacts).
- Kasts (probably the least impacted except for one case that I will attach a
screenshot of)
- Application Dashboard
- Info Center, to a minimal degree

These issues are usually most visible on the "About" page.

I filed this under "I don't know" because this only affects some (QML?)
applications. Some applications, like Dolphin, are entirely unaffected.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
For this example, I will use Discover.
1. Open Discover and go to the About page, with a scale factor of 150%
2. If not observe the issue, resize slowly until observed.
3. Text will jump around to the sides by a few pixels while resizing.

OBSERVED RESULT
Some applications will render fonts ugly at 150% scaling.

EXPECTED RESULT
All applications render fonts cleanly regardless of scale factor.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: 6.8.7 Linux Zen
KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.1.0
Qt Version: 6.7.0

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
On my system I am using the "Inter Display" font set to Medium 10pt, but this
also affects Noto.

I'm not sure what you mean. I find these are working.

The work a bit weird, in that they navigate right-to-left, this could maybe be
a bug but tab navigation works.

Also I see that the focus is not very well displayed. Is that what you mean?

How did you test it?

After being able to download Fedora 40 (while trying to do so is how I
remembered abot this!) and installing Falkon on its live session, I can confirm
that you were absolutely right - in Falkon 24.* this is not happening at all.

Alas KDE6 is still masked on Gentoo so I'm stuck with the "old" QtWebEngine
5.x.

I'm marking this as "Resolved upstream" as this was a thing from QtWebEngine.
Thank you so much and sorry for the noise.
