[kscreenlocker] [Bug 486352] New: Security issue: Lockscreen unlocked without a password with mysterious "Unlock" button, NoPasswordUnlock.qml in logs

2024-04-30 Thread andy
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486352

Bug ID: 486352
   Summary: Security issue: Lockscreen unlocked without a password
with mysterious "Unlock" button, NoPasswordUnlock.qml
in logs
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kscreenlocker
   Version: 6.0.4
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: a...@digitalsignalperson.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Normally at night I do Super+L to lock my screen, then turn off my monitors. In
the morning I turn on my montiors and move my mouse to see the password prompt.
Today I instead of a password prompt there was a "Unlock" button. When I
clicked it, it unlocked my session without prompting for my password.

It sounds similar to this https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=484363 but
clicking the button unlocked my session, without asking for a password. And
similarly, it doesn't happen every time (I haven't reproduced it by
locking/unlocking since just observing it now).

The logs had this very sus line: kscreenlocker_greet[582024]:
file:///usr/share/plasma/look-and-feel/org.kde.breeze.desktop/contents/lockscreen/NoPasswordUnlock.qml:26:
ReferenceError: tryToSwitchUser is not defined

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Lock screen at end of day, turn off monitors.
2. Next day turn on monitors, move mouse.
3. Observe "Unlock" button. Click it.

OBSERVED RESULT
Clicking "Unlock" unlocks the session without asking for a password.

EXPECTED RESULT
You should never be able to unlock the session no password or an invalid
password.

Thanks. This would work indeed. But at the same time I would like to use
customised view for different folders.

So I would like to change the default view settings while still be able to
customise the view for specific folders. Is there a way to do that? If there
isn't, is adding this feature a possibility?

[kdenlive] [Bug 486353] New: Kdenlive thinks I’m still dragging

2024-04-30 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486353

Bug ID: 486353
   Summary: Kdenlive thinks I’m still dragging
Classification: Applications
   Product: kdenlive
   Version: 24.02.0
  Platform: macOS (DMG)
OS: macOS
Status: REPORTED

After dragging clips in the timeline and releasing the mouse button, Kdenlive
thinks I’m still dragging. I’m not able to do any more actions until I quit the
program and restart; sometimes I get the warning “Cannot perform operation
while dragging in timeline”. This happens almost every time I drag and drop
clips.

Kdenlive version 24.02.0 running on Mac OS 12.7.4 on an Intel-based Macbook Pro
early 2015, using the laptop track pad

I first opened a discussion here but then was guided to open a bug report
https://discuss.kde.org/t/kdenlive-thinks-im-still-dragging/14817/1

Its possible. journallog prints this when I open the wallapaper settings:

abr 30 13:10:27 Arch-PC plasmashell[12622]: libKExiv2: Cannot load metadata
from file (Error # %1: The file contains data of an unknown image type )

The memory leak also occurs when I scroll the list of wallpapers while the
wallpaper settings is not maximized.

I have found the culprit: the .svg file that comes together the wallpapers of
Sweet Global theme.

Download the attached .svg file, copy it to
/home/your_user/.local/share/wallpapers/ and try to reproduce the bug.
This .svg file even makes Dolphin to crash if its previews feature is activated
and "SVG Images" is checked in "Previews" tab of Dolphin settings.

SUMMARY
I usually use Arial font on my whole KDE settings. I noticed that progressbar
of Dolphin to Show space information is too shortened with this font. While
there is no such problem with other fonts. I understand that the first answer
may be to use a different font, but i'd like to use Arial, and i would like if
it could be adjusted somehow in this font.

Please see the attach how it looks and the font style i am using

[dolphin] [Bug 484793] File type/associations not being correctly detected on locally mounted samba shares

--- Comment #3 from Maciej Stanczew  ---
Same behavior with NFS mounts; file types are detected correctly only through
filename extensions, not file contents. This worked on Plasma 5.27 / Frameworks
5.115 / Dolphin 23.08.

In Interface → Previews there is an option "Skip previews for remote files
above: …", but changing it doesn't have any effect on this issue.

> When attempting to open a file lacking a filename extension, "Okteta" is
> being defaulted to as the default application.
This probably means you have an association added for Okteta to open unknown
files (application/octet-stream). I don't have such association, and all I get
is the "Open With…" menu entry; and when clicking the file I get the "Choose
Application" dialog.

Unfortunately after such a long time I'm not able to find the reproducer. At

SUMMARY
yahoo currently has their api for downloading citations in csv format. See the
following example

https://query1.finance.yahoo.com/v7/finance/download/EURUSD=X?period1=1682874783&period2=1714497183&interval=1d&events=history&includeAdjustedClose=true

It contains two parameters (period1, period2) to specify the desired date
range. If these parameters are removed from the URL as shown below:

https://query1.finance.yahoo.com/v7/finance/download/EURUSD=X?interval=1d&events=history&includeAdjustedClose=true

only data for the current day is downloaded.

Alkimia from the git master branch currently has no support for specifying
corresponding parameters.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Inspect the source code where the url is generated from the template
(https://invent.kde.org/office/alkimia/-/blame/master/src/alkonlinequote_p.cpp?ref_type=heads#L110)

OBSERVED RESULT
There is currently no support for date ranges in the generated url.

EXPECTED RESULT
Date ranges should be support in generated urls

SUMMARY
It's frustrating when I want to send a bunch of links via KDE Connect and it
requires two taps every time - clicking the "Send to Device" share button, then
confirming the device I want to send it to when there's only one device
available anyway. It should directly send to my device if there's only one
available, or at least have a setting to enable this behaviour.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Try to share a link via KDE Connect
2. Have to also select the one device available

OBSERVED RESULT
Two clicks to share each time.

EXPECTED RESULT
Only one click - share should occur immediately without selecting the device.

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
I want to use the Details View mode by default, but use different view modes
for some special directories. For this, I have set Configure -> View ->
Remember display style for each folder. If I want to set a different view mode
to directory and all its descendant directories, I can check View -> Adjust
View Display Style -> Apply to -> Current folder and sub-folders.

The problem is that this only applies to currently-existing descendant
directories. If I create a new subdirectory, it uses the default view mode. I
thought checking "Use as default view settings" would apply to only the
descendants to the current directory, but it applied to all directories, so
that was not it.

This is inconvenient. For example, suppose that you set the Icon view mode to
the Pictures directory. Whenever you create a new sub-directory to hold a group
of pictures, you have to change the view mode again and again. On Microsoft
Windows, if I set Properties -> Customise -> Optimise this folder for -> Also
apply the template to all subfolders, it automatically gets applied to any
newly-created descendant directory.

I wish there was a way to apply a view mode to all its current and future
descendant directories.

[Plasma Workspace Wallpapers] [Bug 486364] New: Extremely Poor Quality Wallpapers That Should Have Never Made Into KDE

2024-04-30 Thread bugzilla_noreply

Classification: Plasma
   Product: Plasma Workspace Wallpapers
   Version: 6.0.4
  Platform: Arch Linux

Extremely Poor Quality Wallpapers That Should Have Never Made Into KDE

SUMMARY
***
Despite the huge size (5.6 MB and 7.1 MB), huge resolution (5120x2880) and
being PNG, the wallpaper photos are very blurry and grainy with artifacts.

Both (bright and dark version) are extremely poor quality. Such poor quality
photos should never slip through the review process and should never be
included in KDE as it degrades overall perception of KDE of not being high
quality desktop environment.
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Open the following wallpapers in Gwenviw (and zoom/compare with other
wallpapers):

1. /usr/share/wallpapers/Mountain/contents/images_dark/5120x2880.png
SHA512:
ceb85541d6a57667bf21196755c6e7a3c19ec975cde05cf95f00ba4873db86c9a470b7b93a8b55181a65d4d2013a2fbcaf0f927f568dee1bbca4947310cc9847

2. /usr/share/wallpapers/Mountain/contents/images/5120x2880.png
SHA512:
2fb9899bcba680ff83a99aaabda31bbef084f83a53f36f35b037325ff9d838f293307113813c12ae37c5da19ab5d390f0fee0a229b31069149662dcbe1fe66bd

OBSERVED RESULTS:
These photos have been created from very poor, low quality JPGs. The poor
quality JPGs were processed to consist of some triangles (zoom to see) and were
saved, again, as a lossy compressed JPGs (double jpg compression; jpg is a
lossy compression). Finally the poor quality JPGs were poorly upscaled and then
converted to PNG. The result is unacceptable (huge size, slow loading, poor
quality).

EXPECTED RESULT:
Immediate removal including KDE LTS (shift+delete/$ sudo rm) of these files, so
KDE is on par with GNOME, Cinnamon, MATE, MS Windows and Apple OS in terms of
visual quality.

I haven't experienced the issue since Plasma 6. I was using NixOS briefly where
the issue didn't occur, and then later returned to Arch and haven't experienced
it since. The only difference I can remember between my current system and my
old configuration was me using nvidia_drm.fbdev=1 until it was noticed it had
issues. I'll re-enable this and see if I can recreate the issue.

Debug details provided by Krita

SUMMARY

The vertical and horizontal mirror tools do not work with an odd number of
pixels. They kind of work, but they work sporadically.

I've seen related bugs, but they are all closed. I have seen this bug occurring
on the master branch, at the time of reporting, and it also occurs in version
5.2.

A short video of this may be seen at:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mZMW2neX5E

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a 15 x 15 pixel image.
2. Turn on vertical and horizontal mirroring.
3. Ensure the mirroring is set around pixel 7.5 (for both width and height)
which is the middle of the image.
4. Experiment and observe that the mirroring is incorrect and unreliable.

[plasmashell] [Bug 486366] New: Reordering pinned icons via dragging is buggy

2024-04-30 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486366

Bug ID: 486366
   Summary: Reordering pinned icons via dragging is buggy
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.0.4
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Panel
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: jan.clausse...@web.de
CC: niccolo.venera...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
For me dragging icons doesn't work properly. When I drag an icons, it suddenly
disappears and a red indicator is shown. Instead of the intended icons other
icons are moving and the icons first clicked stays where it was.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Configure panel as vertical dock
2. Pin some icons and try to reorder them

OBSERVED RESULT
Behavior is weird as explained above.

EXPECTED RESULT
The intended icons should move where the mouse points to.

--- Comment #4 from Tim D  ---
I'd agree with your thoughts Pedro V. thanks for your input!

looks like I've still got the original zip file i mentioned in the original
post. Extracting it now results in another error ("there was an error while
extractingfailed to read data for entry: folder/file_within_zip.stl"), but
i'm not seeing 1970 dated files either.

I re-downloading the zip from the provided link and do not experience the issue
any more.
In my case, that means the issue was specifically with how thingiverse were
generating the zip and not reliably setting an expected date. The issue has
been corrected and i'm no longer experiencing the 1970 date with either my old
zip from 22-jan-23, or the one i've just downloaded tonight.

fwiw, i'm now on Fedora40 KDEspin.

It seems that, on some systems (such as on mine), 1s is not long enough
for a spurious disconnect and reconnect to happen. 2s seems enough,
however, while still likely not being long enough to cause user
confusion.

I don't really see an error. The dialog also works under Windows. I'm surprised
by the (!) in front of !d->bookmarksDialog->isHidden(). Because if the dialog
is hidden, it can also be reactivated. We also use the same code in the plugin
dialogs for reactivation. However, it doesn't matter because the pointer is
NULL at the start anyway.

I haven't read the relevant parts of code that much, but I have a feeling the

is not far-fetched idea that somebody could implement listenbrainz scrobbling

--- Comment #2 from Hauke  ---
I can confirm the bug under Arch Linux with kioclient 6.0.4 (output of
"kde-open --version").

When executing xdg-open like "xdg-open /path/to/file.txt", the kde-open5
command is called with a "file://path/to/file.txt" parameter and directly fails
(as far as I can see with exit code 1 but without logging to stdout/stderr).
When using xdg-open, this process is endlessly recreated causing a high CPU
load.

My expected behavior is that kde-open/kde-open5 is able to deal with
"file://..." parameters.

Relevant environment variables on my machine might be XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=KDE
and KDE_SESSION_VERSION=5.

Okay, thank you for confirming!
I tested using (unmaintained/unsupported) phonon-gstreamer backend and there
the equalizer changes are somewhat instant, so seems to depend on phonon
backend in use. I'll inspect later if there's anything that could be done on
Amarok's side

SUMMARY
So far, I do not manage to get WIFI enabled by the useful steps at a fresh
install of Kubuntu 24.04 LTS, at this laptop:
Lenovo Thinkpad X230 i5, along with 4 GB RAM, 250 GB SSD. A quick internet
search clarifies me that I am not the only one who deals with this problem.

I do work now with wired internet. However, this wired connection does not help
me to get the WIFI enabled.

Yes I just tried this, restoring the old config json brings the issue back. I
will include both the good one and the bad one here. I did change some display
settings like scaling and theming once I got it working again, sorry about that
hopefully it does not complicate things.

I do work now with wired internet. However, this wired connection does not help
me to get the WIFI enabled. Ticking the box for enabling WIFI is not possible.
You can see it at the screenshot I send with this report.

That's why, I have looked for methods to get WIFI enabled via the command line.
No result. At this output report, you can see why:

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. The graphical check down under - trying to tick the box to enable WIFI. See
also attached screenshot.
2. Command line checks summarised here - see here above. See also the two links
for more info.

OBSERVED RESULT
Both checks did NOT end up in enabling WIFI.

EXPECTED RESULT
Enabling WIFI should need to be possible via either command line or the
graphical approach.

Yes changing the resolution to 1600x1200 from display settings while logged in

[kwin] [Bug 478556] Sometimes the stacking order is out of sync with Xorg

2024-04-30 Thread vm
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478556

--- Comment #73 from vm  ---
After a lot of debugging i think i've found at least a better workaround.

Workaround:

Quite simple - disable ALL effects in "Window Open/Close Animation" group.

Details:

It looks like when any of these effect are enabled KWin starts leaking Window
instances, as they sometimes not getting deleted.

In IDEA every button (such as Run/Debug, Settings, left panel buttons) - has a
tooltip.
When you hover over any of these IDEA button it creates new X window to display
a tooltip.
When mouse leaves that button - tooltip window is destroyed.
KWin tries to animate destruction of that tooltip (...yeah tooltip death
animation...)
And sometimes it causes that Window instances (previously used by tooltips) are
never be deleted (a lot of X11Window instances holding m_client = 0x0), because
m_refCount counter never reaches zero.
Why and where it leaks exactly i'm still don't understand, but the problem
somewhere in this effects implementation.
A few moments later this leaked Window instances start causing a lot of
stacking issues.

Look:

https://youtu.be/1jiKEP-MJQQ

What i've done - added simple logging to Workspace::updateStackingOrder (and
some quite simple helpers - such as refCount() to Window.h for debugging
reasons):

void Workspace::updateStackingOrder(bool propagate_new_windows)
{
if (m_blockStackingUpdates > 0) {
if (propagate_new_windows) {
m_blockedPropagatingNewWindows = true;
}
return;
}
QList new_stacking_order = constrainedStackingOrder();
bool changed = (force_restacking || new_stacking_order !=
stacking_order);
force_restacking = false;
stacking_order = new_stacking_order;
if (changed || propagate_new_windows) {
propagateWindows(propagate_new_windows);

for (int i = 0; i < stacking_order.size(); ++i) {
stacking_order[i]->setStackingOrder(i);
}

Workspace::debugStacking("Stacking order changed!!!",
stacking_order); // <--

Q_EMIT stackingOrderChanged();

if (m_activeWindow) {
m_activeWindow->updateMouseGrab();
}
}
}

void Workspace::debugStacking(const char* prefix, const QList&
stacking) {
QString debugString;
for (Window* w: stacking) {
X11Window* x11w = static_cast(w);
debugString.append(QString("  instance = 0x%1 refCount = %2 window
= 0x%3 desc = %4\n")
.arg(reinterpret_cast(x11w), 0, 16)
.arg(x11w->refCount())
.arg(x11w->window(), 0, 16)
.arg(x11w->windowDesc()));
}
qDebug("%s!!!\n%s", prefix, qUtf8Printable(debugString));
}

Also i've launched gdb to get backtraces with this commands:

gdb ./kwin_x11

break window.cpp:113
commands
silent
bt 6
continue
end

break window.cpp:118
commands
silent
bt 6
continue
end

run --replace`

But without success as i didn't find a real reason - looks like Window
references are hold by EffectWindowDeletedRef, but why...

With all this in mind:

What i clearly know - KWin Window leaking - doesn't look like IDEA problem.
I think this is also reproducible with ANY software which can create/delete
windows as fast as IDEA does.

Is that the same thing as `drmdevice`? I tried installing drm_info and drminfo

And wow, I did not know that you can click on radio button to disable that.
Very counter-intuitive... It should be a radio-button with the check mark ("V")

Git commit 48fbcdffc4ff22a11b56d8809739e0f096d190e6 by Nicolas Fella, on behalf
of Thiago Macieira.
Committed on 30/04/2024 at 22:45.
Pushed by nicolasfella into branch 'release/24.02'.

VNC: replace m_stopped with QThread's interruptionRequested

It's an out-of-line function call, but it doesn't require a mutex for
most uses.

The uses in the callbacks are replaced with isRunning(), because
interruptionRequested resets back to false as soon as run() exits.
