Bug ID: 487513
Summary: Scroll text preview does not honor whitespaces at
fixed length breaking ascii art
Classification: Applications
   Product: kate
   Version: 24.02.2
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kwrite-bugs-n...@kde.org

Created attachment 169803
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=169803=edit
screenshot of bug

SUMMARY
The scrollbar preview does not render with fixed char length, this breaks ascii
art.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open a ascii art document (scene release .nfo is a good one)
2. Use the scroll preview on the side to navigate
3. Notice the art looked broken since fixed spaces for white spaces is not
respected.

OBSERVED RESULT
Bad ascii art image

EXPECTED RESULT
Nice ascii art image

Thank you for the bug report!

However Plasma 0.10.8 is no longer eligible for support or maintenance from
KDE; supported versions are 5.27 (LTS), and 5.27 (non-LTS) or newer. Please
upgrade to a supported version as soon as your distribution makes it available
to you. Plasma is a fast-moving project, and bugs in one version are often
fixed in the next one.

If you need support for Plasma 0.10.8, please contact your distribution, who
bears the responsibility of providing support for older releases that are no
longer supported by KDE.

If you can reproduce the issue after upgrading to a supported version, feel
free to re-open this bug report.

I did some tests. I made a simple project, just 1 clip, 24 seconds long. Did a
preview render in VideoPad (854x480 resolution) and VideoPad rendered it in 4.4
seconds (ran the timer on my phone not trusting the program's own timer).

Same thing in Kdenlive with the latest daily build
(kdenlive-master-8257-windows-gcc-x86_64.exe), 854x480 resolution, even using
proxy clips, it took 40.46 seconds. Without using proxies it took 40.03 seconds
(so it's within margin of error). I tried Mpeg2 and it took 40.41 seconds, DIVX
took 42.46 seconds, and Nvidia H264 ABR took 40.41 seconds.

Here is the test video I used
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MroTkEVVpHHAS5hEnSDjfut5FXjP20gx/view?usp=sharing

I will also attach the project files.

-- Information about the crash:
This happens regularly. I am using VS Code and Opera browser and sometimes
Konsole is open and the taskbar will freeze or plasma will lock everything up.
Usually the mouse will still be able to move but clicking does nothing and
there is no response to keyboard inputs. The taskbar will disappear sometimes
and most times the clock freezes which clues me in to the crash if I am not
getting responses to my mouse or keyboard inputs.

The crash can be reproduced sometimes.

SUMMARY
Hey, I was testing out plasma 6.1 beta on Arch and I noticed that when you
raise the maximum volume and then turn it up to max. It seems to top off a 153%
now instead of the usual 150%. Just seemed kinda odd to have that extra 3%.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open the plasma volume applet.
2. Click the raise maximum volume toggle.
3. Turn volume up to max.

OBSERVED RESULT
Max volume is 153%

EXPECTED RESULT
Max Volume should be 150%

OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED

Recording

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Enable LSP Client (in my example it was rust-analyzer)
2. Mouse over any piece of code that should show hint

OBSERVED RESULT

This is a really weird ask. The most likely answer is that people don't have
time. Remember that people actually have day jobs. They by and large aren't
actually getting paid. You could always put up a substantial bounty either
singly or with other interested users and find out if its feasible to fund it.
You could also ask how to contribute such a feature yourself. In any case
nobody is going to waste their limited free time justifying it to you.

>This is such a deal breaker for me, and I keep switching from KDE for this
>exact reason.

Oh for me too which is why I use i3wm which does have this feature. Remember
nobody gets paid for you using KDE so its suitability for your use case is a
non-goal.

Your entire post could have profitably been shorted to "Any updates on this
feature?"

monitor to another. It once again enters the avoid only to be returned on
reboot or possibly restarting plasmashell.

Summary: Bar Chart in vertical orientation is completely blank
in a horizontal panel.
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: git-stable-Plasma/6.1
  Platform: Arch Linux

Status: REPORTED

Screenshot showing the blank widget as selected.

SUMMARY
"Bar Chart" style system monitor widgets are completely blank in horizontal
panels, possibly due to their width being too small to fit anything.

The popout widget still works if you click on the small blank space.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add the default "Individual core usage" preset widget to a horizontal panel.
2. Observe.

OBSERVED RESULT
Bars would be displayed on the panel widget.

EXPECTED RESULT
Nothing is displayed.

Ultimately it seems like you're looking for a solution to Bug 442981. I agree
that it's very annoying and needs a solution. Unfortunately this isn't it; it's
not really feasible to make the bottom tabs customizable with the current
infrastructure. I think we should instead put effort into Bug 442981.

SUMMARY

I've mounted my Fastmail Files using WebDAV in Dolphin, I can read all the
files that are in there, I can create new files and I can delete files just
fine. I can also edit existing files and create or delete folders with no
problems. But whenever I try to copy or move files within the WebDAV mount I
receive the error "A resource cannot be created at the destination until one or
more intermediate collections (folders) have been created." This has behaved
the same between NixOS/Plasma5 and Fedora40/Plasma6. I am able to perform this
operation without issue using Windows File Explorer.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Within a WebDAV mount, try to copy or move any file to any other location
within that WebDAV mount.

OBSERVED RESULT

I receive the error "A resource cannot be created at the destination until one
or more intermediate collections (folders) have been created."

EXPECTED RESULT

File is copied or moved

I can reproduce it on Plasma 6.1 beta. Moving windows with adaptive
transparency causes stutters and input lag. Increasing animation speed to
immediate works as a workaround.
After switching taskbar to solid color windows are no longer stuttering on
"snapping to taskbar" and I can use slower animations.
Works fine with transparent taskbar as well.
Wayland doesn't seem to be affected.

Of course: i have both btrfs and ext4 partitions, it does not show in either.
If i can do anything else to help, just write. Since this is gentoo, i don't
mind re-compiling the app with any custom patch or options.

[frameworks-kitemviews] [Bug 487499] New: KWidgetItemDelegate wrongly emits warning about users deleting widgets on itemview destruction

2024-05-24 Thread Friedrich W. H. Kossebau
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487499

Bug ID: 487499
Summary: KWidgetItemDelegate wrongly emits warning about users
deleting widgets on itemview destruction
Classification: Frameworks and Libraries
   Product: frameworks-kitemviews
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Reporter: kosse...@kde.org
CC: kdelibs-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

When subclassing KWidgetItemDelegate and installing it on an itemview, serving
widgets by the overridden KWidgetItemDelegate::createItemWidgets(QModelIndex)
method, once the itemview is destructed the internal logic wrongly triggers
warning for each created widget claiming the user would have deleted that
widget:
--- 8< ---
kf.itemviews: User of KWidgetItemDelegate should not delete widgets created by
createItemWidgets!
--- 8< ---

For now consumers decided to work-around this by preventing the state
triggering the warning, by deleting the KWidgetItemDelegate subclass instance
explicitly before the itemview is destroyed, e.g.:
https://invent.kde.org/unmaintained/kdelibs/-/commit/9aaa24814030041f51405182f03c9760e04bc76f
https://invent.kde.org/kdevelop/kdevelop/-/commit/01445fdac0b6d171b7584318a00b5656f3f2db0d

The wrong warnings are triggered due to this:
the widgets returned by the createItemWidgets method are reparented to the
itemview's viewport.
When the itemview is destructed, it will delete the viewport as a child widget.
And even if the delegate has the itemview as parent, if will always be deleted
only after the viewport, as the widget children are deleted at the level of the
itemview QWidget destructor, while the other QObject children only afterwards
at the level of the itemview QObject destructor.
And the viewport again deletes its widget children, to which the created item
widgets now belong. And the QEvent::Destroy event then will be seen by the
still around delegate's KWidgetItemDelegatePool member's
KWidgetItemDelegateEventListener member, as it listens on the created item
widgets' events, in KWidgetItemDelegateEventListener::eventFilter(QObject
*watched, QEvent *event). Wrongly assuming it was the consumer side deleting
the widget.

https://invent.kde.org/unmaintained/kdelibs/-/commit/0225d2895a6f260aa918370e66db483c7d85cf7f
added that check and warning, motivated by double deletion happening from
ktorrent code itself deleting the item widgets as well.
For unknown reasons that commit missed out that at the time already this would
also trigger the warning for "normal" cases, since the reparenting to the
viewport was changed half a year before in
https://invent.kde.org/unmaintained/kdelibs/-/commit/cc38fd9ec8991cb8f89219ddea3efc35325725a3

The logic of the check and warning would need to detect whether the item widget
destruction is a "proper" one done as part of the itemview destruction, or if
it is a bad external one. Besides, the logic is also incomplete as it only
cleans up the KWidgetItemDelegatePoolPrivate's widgetInIndex member, but leaves
a reference in the usedWidgets one.

Dumping analysis here for now. No idea yet how to fix this.
