[plasmashell] [Bug 488538] With a short screen, Notification about removing an applet is partially off screen while "Show Panel Configuration" is active

For comparison: Notification overlaps Add Widget interface

Yes, that is what I figured as well. The question is whether it *should*
successfully try to do so if there's not enough space.

If you place the tray to the left and have the "Add widget" interface open, a
notification will just overlap it (it always takes the whole screen, so the
only way to dodge it would be to the side). This is clearly worse than properly
dodging if that can work, but it doesn't look too bad - see the attached screen
shot. Feels more intentional than having it partially off screen.

(Short screen size is very well taken; maybe Plasma/Neon shouldn't suggest 150%
by default on a 13" 1920x1080 screen under Wayland? There's a couple other
points where it's just a bit too little space; System Settings with the
Wireless & Network kcm doesn't quite fit the screen width-wise, for example).

Indeed you can close it by clicking anywhere in the darkened area, but of
course this isn't obvious. That dialog should have a close button, not only for
obviousness right now, but also so that it doesn't *actually* become unclosable
once it becomes a standalone window.

[Plasma Vault] [Bug 488573] Better handling for cases where the plasmavaultrc or vault data files are missing for whatever reason

   Severity|normal |wishlist

This is user error: if you're going to go poking around and manually delete the
data files, you need to delete the references to them in the config file too.
Anyone not enough of a technical expert to know that probably shouldn't be
manually deleting stuff from ~/.local/share/!

...But that's not the world we live in, so it's probably reasonable to handle
these cases. Another example came up today where a person failed to copy all
the files over properly during a restore-from-backup.

So IMO these are the cases it would make sense to handle:

Data files are missing, but plasmavaultrc file exists:
- Show a message in the UI that the vault got broken because its data was
deleted. Advise the user to recover it from backup, showing the past that
Vaults expects to find it at. Also offer a "delete vault" button they can use
to clear the entry and start over if the data files were removed intentionally,
or no backup is available.

plasmavaultrc file is missing, but the data files exist:
- Recreate the data that would exist in plasmavaultrc based on the names of the
data files

First: Put the Samba host to sleep and attempt to browse the location using
Dolphin.
- Mount the Samba share
- Open Dolphin, browse to the Samba share
- Use VNC to put the remote system to sleep
- Observe: Dolphin window becomes unresponsive. Waited for more than one
minute. Clicked again, system prompted me to terminate it.
This looks like it's still a bug.

- Terminate the Dolphin window and re-open. Attempt to open the Samba share.
See window go grey, but "Loading folder" and then "Loading canceled"
"Could not enter folder /mnt/mount_name" - this looks like expected / desired
behavior.

--

Second: Dolphin hangs if displaying a folder on the remote host, after sleep
and wake of local host.

Unfortunately, I can't re-test this myself since sleeping my system causes
kernel panics related to the Nvidia drivers.
Are you able to re-test this with an up to date system?

--

Third: Browse files on the Samba share and right click to bring up the menu.
I cannot reproduce this issue. I brought up the right click menu with a couple
of dozen files without issue. This problem may be unrelated, or may be specific
to that particular Samba host.

Looks like it's trying successfully trying to dodge the panel settings dialog,
but there simply isn't enough screen real estate. 1920x1080 at 150% scale makes
the effective resolution only 1280 x720

We could reduce the amount of space it tries to allocate between itself and the
dialog, but in principle this is always going to happen with a short screen.
When you exit Edit Mode, there should be enough space again, at least.

You're welcome :-) The fact that the Qt guys already triaged this as
"important" is maybe a good sign.

I think I'll wait what they say. If this is fixed upstream, there's no need to
implement a workaround. And for accidental closing of floating docks, we now
have the "default arrangement" workaround to get them back.

Well, let's see …

I think I'll let this bug open as a reminder to check what upstream does now
and then …

I wonder if this is related; if you remove that widget and then restart the
machine, does the issue still happen?

Obviously if this fixes it, we have a different bug; a broken widget shouldn't
cause this issue. But it would be good to know if that's related or not.

[plasmashell] [Bug 488627] New: plasma desktop background disturbed after reconnect displays

2024-06-17 Thread Markus
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=488627

Bug ID: 488627
Summary: plasma desktop background disturbed after reconnect
displays
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.1.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Other
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Desktop Containment
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: m4rkus...@web.de
CC: notm...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

Created attachment 170572
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=170572&action=edit
Screenshot of the bug

SUMMARY
After switching off and on of the displays the background not scaled correctly,
but huge black borders are visible.
Before (plasma 5.27.11) the problem already existed, but the black border was
actually currupted, in a way that everything that was drawn there from some
window remained in that area across desktops.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use wayland with a fhd display @100% and a 4k display @150%.
2. Switch both displays off and on again.

OBSERVED RESULT
Background of the 4k screen has a huge black border on bottom and right. (See
attached screenshot.)
Changing the background picture itself does not recover it. But changing
between e.g. picture and folder background solves it for the moment.

EXPECTED RESULT
Background is displayed as before, correctly over the full screen area.

Did you check whether the track is muted (I know, I'm asking the obvious), the
project monitor is muted, the render option includes audio (there is a
checkmark!), there is no effect on the audio track and/or clip.

It would help if you could provide screenshots of the timeline, the effect
stack(s), the render settings, etc. Thanks!

[dolphin] [Bug 488626] New: Please make Dolphin hide 'lost+found' dirs by default, just like Thunar does

2024-06-17 Thread Eduard
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=488626

Bug ID: 488626
Summary: Please make Dolphin hide 'lost+found' dirs by default,
just like Thunar does
Classification: Applications
   Product: dolphin
   Version: 24.05.1
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: jongedu...@hotmail.com
CC: kfm-de...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
It would be great if Dolphin showed the same behaviour as Thunar, with that it
hides 'lost+found' directories just like dotfolders.
These folders are generated by fsck on Linux, and they are inaccessible for non
root users. Hiding these folders is great thing.
With the Ctrl+h you can switch between showing/hiding these folders.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Dolphin.
2. Navigate to a root folder of some mounted partition.
3. You can see that Ctrl+h does not make the directory visible/invisible.

OBSERVED RESULT
See description.

EXPECTED RESULT
See description.

Thanks, that was helpful. Looking carefully, the popup was actually resizing,
it just wasn't returning to the *position* you had it at. This is in fact
caused by Bug 486573.

A whole document with n pages is only reproduced in N(n) partial documents! a

[frameworks-kglobalaccel] [Bug 453661] Global shortcuts are not working across multiple keyboard layouts (US and CZ for me)

2024-06-17 Thread ezh
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453661

My bug was marked as dup of this, but i'm not really sure it is... Fedora 40,
Wayland.

1. I had to make two keyboard shortcuts to launch KCalc:
a) one for EN and ET (Estonian) - CTRL-Shift-> (the left from Z)
b) one for RU - CTRL-Shift-|

KDE allows two shortcuts to be made, so it works fine and I'm happy.

2. Other issue without a workaround is mapping a mouse button for CTRL-W, to
closing a tab in Firefox or Dolphin window (that is my bug 485196 about).
a) pressing CTRL-W on the keyboard is working OK using EN, ET and RU layouts
b) but mouse button assigned to CTRL-W does not work when in RU layout
Checked on Dolphin, Firefox, Pinta, even installed Chrome.

Now KDE allows only one shortcut for mouse bindings. So, it does not work and
I'm not happy at all. :(

Is the mouse binding the same issue? Maybe KDE as a workaround could allow to
set different bindings for a mouse, as it does for keyboard?

PS Just checked, when I'm binding a mouse button in RU layout and press CTRL-W
(Ц in RU layout), then the UI shows CTRL-W. I believe it is a different
issue...
