I was wrong. Sorry for the noise.
I rolled back Plasma to 6.1.0 but the problem persists.
It must be something else who messes with the clipboard.

Hi there. I'm using IntelliJ Ultimate for my daily business on Manjaro.

After updating Plasma 5 to version 6, IntelliJ became unusable in my multi
display setup. Unplugging all external displays solved the issue, but that's
not an option to me.

A couple a days ago I set up a new machine. Since I set up IntelliJ with an
OpenJDK instead of the JBR, I did not run into that issue so far.

But I read the comment wondering about if it may be an issue of the Plasma
update process. On this new machine I started with Plasma 6, so I just gave
that idea a try and started IntelliJ without all the workarounds. As a result I
got an IDE that was quite usable, but still had issues especially with
animations fading in and out the menu bar menus or dialogs. I configured only a
couple of Manjaro settings, animation settings have not been changed by me.

It's still a recognizable improvement running the IDE with that custom IDE
setting (-Dwatch.desktop.geometry=false) and the custom JBR provided in that
JetBrains issue linked with this KDE issue.

file causing issue

SUMMARY

When I enabled search in one file, I noticed that when scrolling down, first
visible line gets duplicated.
I suspect that it is related to word wrapping because "line" is actually a
wrapped part of the real line.
But I am not sure what exact steps causing this.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Enable word wrapping
2. Open file with really long lines
3. Open search panel
4. Scroll down with mouse

OBSERVED RESULT
First line visibly duplicates

EXPECTED RESULT
Regular scrolling through text

When searching using baloo6, the search indexer does nothing. Purge does
nothing, disabling does nothing, enabling does nothing. When checking the
status, the file indexer returns "Baloo Index could not be opened." Monitoring
shows the program is doing nothing.

This is incredibly frustrating, as there is seemingly no cause as the program
is too cryptic to understand.

SUMMARY

UX: The Wi-Fi & Networking section showing no obvious way to connect to a wifi
network feels confusing to me, especially since 1. it seems inconsistent with
the title of the entire section since "Wi-Fi & Networking" doesn't suggest I
basically can't do the most required Wi-Fi action in that section, which is to
just connect to some random network, and 2. GNOME Control Center doesn't have
this issue and actually offers ways to connect to networks as well. This seems
especially confusing with the "+" button at the bottom, since in no way does
that one suggest it only works for creating hotspots rather than also creating
connections as a client to existing hotspots. Also, even more confusing is that
when not being connected the Wi-Fi card isn't even listed, which feels like the
driver is just plain broken. My apologies if this is just me, or if there is an
obvious connect button and I just missed it.

I have therefore attached a suggested UI how the Wi-Fi should be listed when
not connected, with a dummy entry to allow connecting to new networks which
would ideally open up some popup showing the list of networks available. Then
the list in the "+" button popup could also be revised to differentiate between
new "Wi-Fi Hotspot" and new "Wi-Fi Client Connection" in the lit, and the
latter could also show this Wi-Fi network popup to pick one.

All of this is also a problem in case the plasma quick settings malfunction:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=489481 since in that case, unlike with
GNOME, it's seemingly no longer possible to use Wi-Fi. Having less points of
failures here might be beneficial.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Open up Wi-Fi & Networking panel in KDE settings and see attached screenshot

OBSERVED RESULT

Seemingly there's no way to connect to any wi-fi, even though it says "Wi-Fi &
Networking"

EXPECTED RESULT

Obvious way to connect to a wi-fi in that section

This test program does produce the problem on my original system, a KDE Neon 5
install that underwent updates and received the Plasma 6 (and of course KDE
Neon 6) release. I switched to using Kubuntu for some time to avoid it as I
assumed it was an issue with Plasma 6.

However, downloading and installing the latest release of KDE Neon today on the
same hardware does not produce the bug. Could it be possibly related to the
upgrade process?

Classification: I don't know
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Arch Linux

The error on rpgmaker2003, yume nikki is a lot less interesting looking, just a
black screen

SUMMARY:

I installed the rpgmaker2003 game engine and Yume Nikki (free game, tried both
with the Steam release and the portable version at ubochan) and i found that
the game and game engine appear as full (yume nikki's case) or partial black
screens (rpg's case, the wine gui showed up fine, but not some custom content).

I tested both on X11 and Wayland.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install Yume Nikki (free, you can get the best version here, look at the
left bar in the website) https://uboachan.net/ OR rpgmaker2003 (paid product,
versions on the internet archive)
2. Run Yume Nikki or rpg with Wine/Proton (tested with lots of Proton versions
and Bottles' Soda 8 and 9 Wine versions)
3. Black screen

EXPECTED RESULT
That the game and editor display the image correctly.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: 6.9.7-zen1-1-zen (tested with 6.1 lts too), KDE 6.1.1
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.1
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.3.0
Qt Version: 6.7.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Yume Nikki is a well tested and old game. I ran the game and engine on Xfce
with the same setup and it worked flawlessly.

Maybe there is a chance this is a wine bug.
See ProtonDB page for more info. I did notice while writing this that one other
person had this same problem, but they didn't report their desktop environment,
but due to my Xfce experience im thinking this is a KDE only.

Microsoft's warning email about the upcoming changes

SUMMARY
I received an email from Microsoft today stating that they will disable
traditional username-and-password authentication entirely on September 16,
2024. Previously you could generate app passwords to continue using normal IMAP
authentication in KMail, but it sounds like this will not work.

If Akonadi does not get support for Microsoft accounts, KMail users (as well as
any other app that uses Akonadi for emails, like Merkuro) will no longer be
able to read any Microsoft-hosted email, including @outlook.com addresses,
@hotmail.com addresses, and any corporate addresses provided by O365.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Sign into KMail with a Microsoft-hosted email account
2. Wait until September 16, 2024
3. Your email will no longer sync

OBSERVED RESULT
not applicable as it is not yet September 16

EXPECTED RESULT
Ideally a Microsoft account plugin will be developed for Akonadi.

A workaround is to use Thunderbird or live.com to read mail; however, I prefer
KMail.

[kwin] [Bug 489342] Desktop frame rate drops when fractional scaling is enabled on wayland with a maximised Firefox window in focus.

2024-07-01 Thread kreds
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=489342

I'd just like to add that at 100% scaling, so fractional scaling disabled, some
animations have dropped frames while FF is in focus and maximised. For
instance, the opening animation for dolphin has dropped frames but the closing
animation is smooth.

Another weird thing I noticed with 100% scaling was when you have FF in
focus+maximised and have a video iframe on the active tab like the homepage
video of a youtube channel, doesn't matter if the video is actively playing or
not, the desktop has dropped frames when switching virtual desktops via
keyboard shortcuts. Specifically when going from another virtual desktop back
to the desktop with FF in focus. If you switch desktops fast enough, it seems
like only the first animation back to the desktop with FF lags and the rest are
smooth. However, if you switch desktops with a 3 second-ish delay, then each
animation going back to the desktop with FF has dropped frames.

Yes. KWin doing direct scanout (which didn't properly work before 6.0.4)

Sometimes it freezes for a few seconds when voice recording starts. This
happens not only when the program is opened.

This delay occurs by chance and I have not found any patterns. And this forces
me to overwrite the voice segments several times, because every time I click on
record, I do not know if there will be a delay or if recording will start
immediately.

I have disabled the standard delay (countdown before recording in the program
settings). I can't turn it on, because it will slow down my work speed even
more.

Previously, there was no delay before recording. And now it occurs by accident,
which greatly interferes with work. Please fix it.

Details on the video (this problem occurs not only at the start of the
program).

When you say "calibrated", do you mean that you used the calibration tab in
DisplayCAL, with the tone curve set to sRGB perhaps?
If so, that only does anything in a system where most applications don't
support color management. With KWin, the ICC profile is properly applied to all
content, and these "calibrations" are undone by the ICC profile.

Even if mangohud didn't have that flicker with the FPS 0/inf frametime drop
when kwin was downgraded to 6.0.3.1?
Unfortunately trying to downgrade below kwin 6.1.1 now results in being unable
to start a session, and I hadn't tried to force a freeze when I was able to do
so.

Some additional things:
1. I checked the x11 session and mangohud behaved like on the wayland session,
so I suppose the component should be "general."
2. While experimenting with various games, I found that after launching a
fullscreened Unity game (through wine, and several worked) with mangohud
multiple times, eventually mangohud stops doing those things when the window
loses and regains focus. This then applies to any further launched fullscreen
application with mangohud enabled. I have no idea why this happens.
3. With mangohud doing those things, I can't seem to force a freeze now on kwin
6.1.1 and 6.1.1.2. After I opened this issue I was using gamescope when
possible to avoid freezing. If it does happen again, I will open an issue
there.

When the user expands any shortcut node, its content is displayed and appears
merged with other closed nodes, so it's easy to accidentally click the node
above or below it because there is no border that shows the limit of each
node's content. See attached image for more info.

I like to use tmpfs as a way to prevent wear on my SSD for temporary files I
know I'm going to delete in a short while, using "Extract here and delete" is
just counterproductive in this case, as it moves the file into the SSD trash

Tab's title is too small

The titles in the new style of tabs in Keyboard and Power Management, are
written using a small font, which make them look like small notes lacking
attention compared to the big icons placed above them.

The icons are not always more expressive than text content, especially on
Keyboard page where we can see that icons aren't all well-chosen: "keyboard"
icon refers to hardware, "bubble message" icon refers to layouts and "settings"
icon refers to Key Bindings.

In reality, it's impossible to find the perfect icons of all available actions
on any platform, so it would be much better to increase font size of tabs'
title to fill the lack to express the exact meaning, and makes it easier for
user to read it and differentiate between different tabs.

[frameworks-baloo] [Bug 404057] Uses an insane amount of memory (RSS/PSS) writing a *ton* of data while re-indexing unchanged files

2024-07-01 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=404057

(In reply to Kai Krakow from comment #46)
> ... Just my 2 cents, no need to re-open ...
Thank you!

My experience is empirical, I tested out various combinations to see how they
behaved. Means, of course, that I might have noted the behaviour at one moment
in the implementation of the systemd limits / OOM behaviours. I'm pretty sure
that behaviours were changing in the period I was testing...

That said, I've not noticed the percentages behaving differently than a defined
amount of memory (so, I think a "MemoryHigh=25%" on a 2GB system acts the same
as a "MemoryHigh=512M"). It would be interesting if this was not the case...

I'm pretty sure the "MemoryHigh" is a soft limit, I was able to push the usage
to just a little above the given limit but the process slowed down (markedly,
when I pushed hard), I think when trying to claim more memory. I tried the same
with MemoryMax but this seemed to be a hard limit. I tried setting a MemoryHigh
with a slightly higher MemoryMax but it didn't seem to bring any benefits, the
MemoryHigh on its own seemed to be quite effective at limiting Baloo's memory
use.

I'm also pretty sure that even with a defined MemoryHigh, Baloo releases memory
when other processes require it.

Certainly, there was dropping and rereading of clean pages when Baloo was
closing on the limit. That was visible in iotop. I noticed in "pathological
cases", indexing large quantities of data and having to manage very many dirty
pages, pushed Baloo to swap and performance very clearly suffered (even when
the rest of the system has sufficient space). I think it's (likely) worthwhile
adding the MemorySwapMax=0 for Baloo to stop it reaching that point (although
only if MemoryHigh is reasonable). The argument being an OOM for Baloo is
(likely) better than it swapping. This is a value judgement through...

I think we should stay with the systemd caps on memory use, there were so many
bugs/reports about Baloo slugging performance before the change. Those calls
have dropped to a very few (and are more about the limits probably being too
low)

As I said, this is very much the result of "from the outside in", empirical
testing. Not something I can argue is right, particularly given your
information (thank you once again), just something I've seen.

[kded-appmenu] [Bug 489570] New: Add Default Exported Menu Options Similar to its macOS Counterpart

2024-07-01 Thread WeathrdKde
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=489570

Bug ID: 489570
Summary: Add Default Exported Menu Options Similar to its macOS
Counterpart
Classification: Frameworks and Libraries
   Product: kded-appmenu
   Version: 6.1.1
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: menu exporter
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: tpapata1...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

**SUMMARY**
This is a suggestion to make KDE Plasma’s appmenu widget a bit more uniform
across all applications. For apps without a menubar, this would make the global
menu experience a bit more consistent across all applications.
As to what default menu options would be suitable for this use case, things
like a “Window” option for Window management, a “File” option for general
document behavior (Like copying, pasting, creating and opening documents,
etc…) and a “Help” option to view basic information about the application or if
the application doesn’t have a help page, just create a placeholder one.

**STEPS TO REPRODUCE**
1. Open an application that doesn’t have a menubar (e.g: Windows programs in
Wine)

**OBSERVED RESULT**
appmenu will not have any options by default .

**EXPECTED RESULT**
appmenu should have some default options for every application for uniformity.

**SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS**
Linux/KDE Plasma: Linux kernel version 6.9.1, KDE Plasma 6
KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.1-1

**ADDITIONAL INFORMATION**
This is a suggestion. I may work on this myself at a later date but this serves
as a suggestion post for this feature. Contributions are welcome.

I can confirm this on Solus Plasma 6. The problem isn't limited to the Breeze

I assume you mean 5.1.3. Hopefully this is not platform dependent.
So far, you are the only one to report this problem, and we can't reasonably
fix a problem we don't see.
The best way to get this addressed is for someone to reproduce it, and it would
help if you can create a minimal .kmy file that demonstrates the problem.

[libplasma] [Bug 489569] New: C++ plasmoid template for Plasma 6 is broken

2024-07-01 Thread I don't need a name
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=489569

Bug ID: 489569
Summary: C++ plasmoid template for Plasma 6 is broken
Classification: Frameworks and Libraries
   Product: libplasma
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Manjaro
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: components
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: vladma...@gmail.com
CC: m...@ratijas.tk, notm...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

Creating a new project from KAppTemplate or KDevelop results into a broken
CMake configuration.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a new Plasma QML/C++ Applet project
2. Try to configure CMake
3. Get an error

OBSERVED RESULT
CMake not configuring

EXPECTED RESULT
CMake configuring properly

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Manjaro Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.1
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.3.0
Qt Version: 6.7.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Some of my observations:

find_package(KF6 ${KF6_MIN_VERSION} REQUIRED COMPONENTS
Plasma
I18n
)

Doesn't work since Plasma doesn't seem to be part of KF. find_package(Plasma)
looks like a correct way to write it.
set(KF6_MIN_VERSION "5.93.0")
Results in an error: qt_generate_foreign_qml_types() is only available in Qt
6. Also doesn't make any sense since 5.93 is KF5?

Forcing `set(QT_MAJOR_VERSION "6")` could solve the issue, but results in
error, because ECMQueryQt.cmake believes it's on qt 5 and produces wrong
command.

Possibly related bug:

Changing --query to just -query in ECMQueryQt.cmake actully makes the template
work at this point, but this doesn't look like a good solution to me.

[krita] [Bug 489467] Release 5.2.3 update to paying customers

Hey Markuss.

To clarify a bit, Krita 5.2.3 actually was released for Linux, Windows and Mac
on Steam last Tuesday (even before our release announcement post went up), but
has unfortunately since been rolled back to 5.2.2 due to the problem that
Dmitry mentioned causing users to experiences frequent assertion failures
(crashes).

As a paying customer I can understand how that's frustrating, so to make sure
you have some agency here too I have pushed Krita 5.2.3 to the "beta" branch
for Krita on Steam. (Access by right clicking on Krita -> Properties -> Betas
tab -> "beta" Branch. Steam may take a minute to switch back.)

We've never had to roll back a release on Steam before, and I realize it's not
ideal, but it seemed to be the better option than continuing to ship an update
with frequent crashes to Steam customers. Providing timely updates to people
like you who choose to support us on Steam is not something that I take lightly
and in the ~6 years since I've been managing Krita on Steam, I can only think
of 1 time that we've been late to push an update there (which was due to me
being unavailable at the time).

I give you my word that I'll push the Krita 5.2.3 update to Steam as soon as
humanly possible once we have a stable release build available.
Please give us a bit more time to work out this issue and thank you for your
support.

Emmet

[plasmashell] [Bug 489519] Preselected option in logout screen is Shutdown instead of Logout

2024-07-01 Thread Patrick O'Callaghan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=489519

(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #1)
> This was an intentional change for Plasma 6.1, sorry. If you want Logout
> pre-selected, set a shortcut for "Log out" in System Settings > Keyboard >
> Shortcuts > Session management. Or just hit the right arrow key once on the
> logout dialog to make the logout button get selected, and then hit
> return/enter.

An intentional change? I find that astonishing. Who asked for this? Shutting
down the system is something I may have done once in the past year when going
on vacation. The rest of the time I want to log out quickly and log in again
because something in the DE has been updated. Now there's an additional
complication for no benefit whatever that I can see.

What am I missing? Can you point to a discussion of this decision?

Show liabilities/equities as positive numbers

A liability is usually a negative amount in terms of networth. Showing
the liabilities with a negative sign is confusing for users, though.

This change takes care of this and displays liabilites that are still
due as positive numbers and overpaid liablities as negative on the
homepage's asset and liability section, the account balance chart and
the ledger balance.

Leaving this open, perhaps the fingerprint config UI needs to warn if the right

SUMMARY

When I attempt to resize a newly added Kickoff widget via the corner, Plasma
hangs and I have to `killall -9 plasma` to get it to restart.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add a new Kickoff widget to the panel.
1. Open up the Kickoff menu.
2. Click and drag the upper-right corner to resize it (my panel is on the
bottom of the screen).

OBSERVED RESULT

Plasma hangs as soon as I start dragging.

EXPECTED RESULT

Plasma shouldn't hang.

Hmm, works for me on Win11 and the same version of Kdenlive.

How did you install Kdenlive? Please post a screen recording of adding and
trying to delete the effect, if possible. Does it work for other effects?

[Plasma Vault] [Bug 487597] Error loading vaults

2024-07-01 Thread jmdkde
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487597

YES ! a priori, I solved my problem
After a laborious search, and by comparing the installations of the different
users of my computer, I found the faulty file which is:
. config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc
by deleting it, I was able to recover access to Vault and KDEConnect
Be careful : you have to redo your panel setup afterwards.

6.1.1 is what I'm currently on. Sorry for not including this in my original

no difference. I've tried re-logging as well as rebooting between edits.

FWIW I can reproduce the issue of KCMs breaking if you launch System Settings
to the Mouse KCM or several others (e.g. Networks) but I'm not sure it was
caused by a commit in Kirigami 6.3. I bisected back to the beginning of 6.3 and
it always happens. 6.3 might be a coincidence.
