For LabPlot 2.11 python 3.11 is required, see also

[www.kde.org] [Bug 491338] New: The Nightly Installers sections should also list AppImage builds

2024-08-06 Thread Thomas Friedrichsmeier
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=491338

Bug ID: 491338
Summary: The Nightly Installers sections should also list
AppImage builds
Classification: Websites
   Product: www.kde.org
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: apps.kde.org
  Assignee: kde-...@kde.org
  Reporter: thomas.friedrichsme...@kdemail.net
  Target Milestone: ---

The per-application Nightly installers (CDN) section lists Windows, macOS Arm
and macOS Intel builds, but not linux AppImage builds, even if they are
published on CDN. I don't think that's intentional.

2024-08-05 Thread Nathan Colinet
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441068

I think the main issue was related to the Baloo symlink issue. I had a drive
mounted in /mnt and then symlinked in ~/. I had some "places" (like Musics or
Documents) configured to use paths like ~/symlink/Musics. As soon as I modified
these to use /mnt/drive/Musics, most dolphin search issues were gone.

[plasmashell] [Bug 491337] New: Moving to a new virtual desktop shouldn't move the desktop of other screens

2024-08-05 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=491337

Bug ID: 491337
Summary: Moving to a new virtual desktop shouldn't move the
desktop of other screens
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Neon
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Desktop Containment
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: techxga...@outlook.com
CC: notm...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
Each screen should be its own desktop, like in macOS. We should be able to
move to a new desktop for one screen, and the other screens won't affect it

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create virtual desktops
2. Move to new desktop

OBSERVED RESULT
In a multi-monitor setup, moving to a new desktop moves the desktop of all
monitors, not just the monitor where the cursor resides

EXPECTED RESULT
Just like in macOS, the virtual desktop shouldn't be tied to all screens.
Moving virtual desktops should only affect the screen where the cursor is at or
the active window.

Did you have the "Show panel configuration" mode active? There is a known
sequence of steps that can cause this to happen then, see bug 487161. I cannot
reproduce this while not starting in "Show panel configuration" mode. If you
can, please confirm this, and ideally provide more information about additional
steps that may be relevent.

(FYI, in case you do get stuck with this popup open, you can click the header
(where it says "Alternative Widgets"), then it should become possible to click
elsewhere and the popup will close)

Thank you for the bug report!

This is a consequence of intentional behavior; many of the individual ways to
search have character restrictions (often three characters, sometimes more) as
the results are typically not useful with very short search terms. Only a small
number, like applications that start with that letter (or pair of letters), are
enabled for input of 1-2 characters.

Tested a bit more. It takes a few tries but reproduction steps are:
1. Open KCalc
2. Either type "(" on the keyboard or click the "(" button.
3. Segfault

Reproduces ~50% of the time with the keyboard and ~20% of the time when
clicking the button with the mouse.

i could not reproduce it, however I think it can be related to:
  https://invent.kde.org/utilities/kcalc/-/merge_requests/99
that is already fixed on the next version (24.08) so for now I will leave it as
confirmed but shouldn't be a problem.

Sorry, I forgot about the 'shake cursor' effect. If I draw these test circles
too fast, that kicks in, and that also makes the frame timing smooth.

I did do that briefly by accident in the first test (desktop 60Hz) and thought
that I should mention it.

(In reply to Zamundaaa from comment #13)
> Okay, there's 58 frames dropped because of late atomic commits in the log of
> the 60Hz monitor (vs. only 10 on the 120Hz one), which would also affect the
> cursor. I think the fix for bug 490358 should help here too.

Hmm, I'm not so sure that's the same issue I'm seeing - In this timeframe on
the 120Hz monitor I would have had in the region of hundreds of frames where it
should have drawn the cursor but didn't. If I draw a circle on my desktop I see
several, maybe 10 breaks in that single circle of cursors, and in these logs I
draw many dozens of circles.

That bug is also reported as being worse under CPU load, whereas mine is not.
There's no effect by any CPU load I've been able to generate with stress-ng or
everyday apps, and I have no gradient of good-to-bad effect with mine, there's
no better/worse, it's either doing it, or it isn't. The only thing that seems
to have any effect is what the cursor is being drawn above.
I also wonder about this, on my 5900X+3090 system, this rig is getting old but
it's still pretty fast. I haven't read into your patch, but f you had to slow
down kwin for this system, I'd say there might be something else wrong.

I attempted to better capture the two behaviours in my logs. Attached are four
files - one for each monitor, and one for each of two scenarios. The first
scenario, I reboot, open the launcher, draw 20 circles on the desktop on the
60Hz hdmi monitor, then 20 circles on the 120Hz DP monitor. The second scenario
is the same, but I open firefox before drawing the circles, and maximise it to
the display I'm drawing on, so I'm drawing circles over firefox rather than
over the desktop.

The immediately most interesting thing about this is that yes, that's a 0 byte
file, for the desktop (no firefox) scenario, on the 120Hz monitor (my
secondary). I'm not sure if that's a sign that this logging can't capture this
fault, or if it's a hint as to why this fault is seen?

Hope this is helpful.

Make leading/trailing spaces and other invisible character easier to see

Leading and trailing spaces are now shown using a brighter colour
(a text colour instead of a background colour) that should work well
with both light and dark colour schemes.

The colour formatting for special characters has been split into separate
rules for 1) non-breaking spaces, 2) soft hyphens, 3) leading/trailing spaces.
(Before this commit, rules 2 and 3 were combined, even though their formatting
should preferably be different.)

Also, now we specify both foreground and background colours for each rule.
This ensure that symbols used for visualization of invisible characters
(the ‘Visualize separators such as spaces, tabs and new lines in the editor’
setting) are always clearly visible (when the setting is enabled).

Answering myself, I've found ways to get things inside the text field, and can
confirm that once they're there it's not possible to clear the field by any
apparent means (not even selecting and right-clicking to "cut" works).

Two different reproduction steps that work for me:

(usual setup for getting android to accept remote keyboard input from KDE
Connect)

- Switch to a keyboard layout with dead keys. Attempt to send the combination
character of ` and a (i.e. à). The character does not get sent, but appears in
the text field
- Have middle mouse button pastes selection/primary enabled. Select some text,
then paste it into the text field by pressing the middle mouse button. The text
does not get sent (like it does with Ctrl+V pasting); instead the text appears
in the text field.

Marking as confirmed and setting the title to something more descriptive.

[kscreenlocker] [Bug 491333] New: Slideshow on remote mounted filesystem freezes UI requiring reboot

2024-08-05 Thread Jonathan E. Snow

Bug ID: 491333
Summary: Slideshow on remote mounted filesystem freezes UI
requiring reboot
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kscreenlocker
   Version: 5.27.11
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash

***
If you're not sure this is actually a bug, instead post about it at
https://discuss.kde.org

If you're reporting a crash, attach a backtrace with debug symbols; see
https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports
***

SUMMARY

Rather than having my screen locker images (and wallpapers) locally, I mount
them from a remote system. However, sometimes the UI freezes, apparently when
trying to access a remote file system that is temporarily unavailable.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set Kscreenlocker wallpaper type to "Slideshow"
2. Add folder "Remote" on a network mounted file system
3. Wait.

OBSERVED RESULT
If the file open fails (eg if the remote fs is not available), kscreenlocker
becomes unresponsive. The only way to regain control of the system is to log in
remotely and shut down KDE from the command line or reboot.

EXPECTED RESULT
System should never become unresponsive. Screenlocker should test whether the
next image in the slideshow is available and can be opened for reading and
simply skip the update if it is not.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Could be related to bug 397537, as that fault apparently also throws a block if

Thank you for the bug report!

I can't reproduce this anymore with KDE Connect 24.04 or 23.08, using Samsung
Keyboard 3.3.23.33 or 5.8.20.7. (For Latin character sets, there are issues
with other character sets and extended characters, but there are several
separate bug reports for these issues). I assume the main incompatibility with
Samsung Keyboard was fixed at some point.

Do you still experience this issue? If yes, can you clarify the versions that
you are using, or provide other information that may be relevant?

Git commit 19763dbf463cf97f186516670132e372c70a9f9b by Albert Vaca Cintora, on
behalf of Christoph Wolk.
Committed on 05/08/2024 at 22:06.
Pushed by albertvaka into branch 'master'.

plugins/runcommand: use Kirigami.Dialog

The "Add Command" dialog in the settings for the Run Command plugin
looks rather broken at the moment, as the size is not explicitly set and
the default value ends up much smaller than the contents. It uses
QQC2.Dialog, even though the plugin makes heavy use of Kirigami. Using
Kirigami.dialog here would solve the sizing issue, and generally lead to
a more consistent interface.

This change makes the plugin use Kirigami.Dialog instead of QQC2.

I wasnt not sure if i should open a new bug report, as this bug is still not
properly fixed. So i decided to reopen this one, if you want me to open a
complete new bug report, i can do that. Sorry if i wasnt supposed to reopen it
:)

The bug did evolve a bit. The buttons for install of specific version work fine
if you are in the initial window where you search the icon packs. Right after
you click "Get new...". If you click on "Install" directly from that window,
the installation will work as expected. But if you enter an icon pack page
(i.e. double click on one of the offered icon packs) and try to install from
there, it does not work. Same behavior as this bug's original description.

I have a vague, indistinct memory that this was removed in the recent past

https://invent.kde.org/sitter/crashinator/-/commit/03f174adb7c7905f42df57ef221d062a2e7ac767

Glancing at the code that has to do with how we detect ANR on wayland. We send
a ping to the surface when either the window gets focus or a window close is
issued.

You can actually see that very well in crashinator.
- If you trigger a hang and do absolutely nothing (outside) the window will
**not** turn unresponsive at all because kwin never sent a ping.
- If you trigger a hang and change focus away and back, the window will turn
unresponsive.
- If you then do absolutely nothing again the window will stay unresponsive
even after having recovered.
- If you then again do a focus change the window will turn responsive again.

`crashinator --platform xcb` meanwhile never detects the window as unresponsive
unless you click close and then obviously it closes once it turns responsive
again. We just outright have no means to detect unresponsive windows outside
the close scenario.

That said, the trouble appears to be that the the ever so late pong is
eventually ignored by handlePongReceived because handlePingTimeout erased the
serial and handlePongReceived was changed to only turn windows responsive if
the serial is in m_pings.
