[kwin] [Bug 478604] Can't ESCape or quit windows preview by keyboard after clicking a program icon or hitting shortcut to activate present-windows on a task bar
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=478604 --- Comment #1 from Alex A.D. --- SUMMARY Can't escape windows preview by using keyboard ESC button when I hit icon of an opened application (with multiple windows opened). I can't leave preview mode except by using mouse, which is annoying. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Install any distro with Plasma v5.25 or above 2. Open any application with multiple windows 3. Then use taskbar icons to get present-windows-like windows preview effect 4. Do this repeatedly until ESCape doesn't work anymore OBSERVED RESULT Failure to close present windows EXPECTED RESULT Closing present-windows both by ESC or by hitting bound "Activate Task Manager Entry" shortcuts. Before Plasma 5.25 exiting present-windows view (activated by using "Activate Task Manager Entry" shortcut) worked perfect both by using ESCape or the same shortcut used to open present-windows. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Kubuntu 23.10 KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.8 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.110.0 Qt Version: 5.15.10 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Plasma v5.25 heavily reworked desktop-effects and introduced a lot of bugs. Like, does pressing letter keys > filter the windows? > > I tried it and after fixing bug#466120 it seems to work OK. Well in latest plasma all keys fail to focus present-window widget when it is invoked from the task bar (by keyboard hotkey) or directly by a keyboard shortcut. Arrow keys also don't work. This happens all the time. Present window activated by a shortcut (meta+1...7) only when I hit it twice . Focus sometimes is kept on the last focused app, not on the invoked widget. It's really ANNOYING. I don't get why devs decided to break away from previous presnt mode which was fast and slick and very comfortable. Now even animation delay isn't configurable. Blur also can't be turned off. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

It's in a config option (see attached file). I've set up checkmark back and panels started to auto-hide as usual. I also have done the following (FYI): 1. $ kate ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc 2. Set the applet config `PreloadWeight=` to `5`, e.g. [Containments][2][Applets][228][Configuration] PreloadWeight=5 In order to figure out which applet to set up value to, do the following: 1. $ kate ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc 2. Open panel settings, set visibility to another value 3. Focuse Kate and hit "show the difference" button on the floating popup 4. Look for ` [Containments][2][Applets][NNN][Configuration]` where NNN is number 5. Copy, reload file and find the this string 6 Now set the `PreloadWeight=5` I'm not sure that this guide has affected settings though. The previous value of `PreloadWeight=` in my case was 35.
