The problem is actually everywhere. If the initial ftp connection is made by
writing the password in plain text into the navigation bar
("ftp://user:passw...@server.com;) the password is never removed. 
* VFS uses the URL with the password while navigating  on the ftp server
* all file URLs contain the password, it is not removed when opening files or
copying them to clipboard
* sometimes debug output with the URL and password is printed

Dolphin has exactly the same problems.

Removing the password from all URLs is not that simple cause the password is
never saved and browsing wont work after the first directory listing without
entering the password again.

The best solution would be if the KIO listing job saves the password internally
and it can be removed after the first connection. This is currently done anyway
if no password is provided and the authentication dialog appears.

In the location bar with the current path above each panel in Krusader.
Konqueror does not support krarc

Anyone can confirm that this is solved with newer versions of Gnome?

But anyway this is not a Krusader issue. We are only using the libraries and
services KF5 and the desktop environment gives us.

Dived into this and the reason is indeed interesting. When going "out" of an
iso to the parent folder containing the iso file the protocol does not change,
e.g.
when going up from "iso:///tmp/knoppix_7.1.iso/" the new URL is "iso:///tmp/".

This URL is refreshed and the iso protocol sends a redirect during the KIO job
to the correct URL "file:///tmp/". Still the directory listing is done with the
KIO:ListJob and here the check for broken links is not done. (Is there even a
KIO protocol besides "file:///" that can contain symlinks?)

Anyway, its fixed now in the vfs_rework branch.

Which icons are missing in the panel, only for the navigation bar? Attached is
a screenshot from my system.

Missing icons in the navigation bar is really strange cause Krusader and
Dolphin are using exactly the same widget from KF5, KUrlNavigationBar.

No, the filesystem type is not important. But if its a local fs the problem is
likely the dir watcher looking for file changes in the current directory.

another idea: is the krarc plugin correctly installed?
You should have these files installed:

quick idea: what icon themes do you have installed and what is the default one?
What is your DE, LXDE? It looks like you're missing some icons.

On the other hand if Dolphin displays them correctly Krusader must do something
different to determine the icons.

* removing the entry directly ( deleteEntry("ActiveTab") ) does not work too
* a sync() call writes the incorrect config to the file
* it works correctly if the config path is specified with a custom path
* it works correctly if the group was not in the config file when the
application started (create+delete works)

And most important: When I search for "[$d]" in ~/.config/* , there are 10
config files with these invalid entries (ksmserverrc, oktetarc, khotkeyrc,
plasmashellrc, ...). This bug is slowly messing up the config files for all KDE
applications and can trigger further bugs.

ok, to make this sure:

* in settings->Dependencies, "diff utility" is set to "/usr/bin/kdiff3"?
* what is the version of kdiff3?
* does it work with kompare and/or meld?
* select two plain text files, right-click->open with->others... and type
"kdiff3 %U". Does this work?

Maximum file size should be 5MB. Or you have some old setting somewhere.

tested filenames with umlauts on NTFS partition, works fine here.
If I remember right there was always a problem with Windows FS encodings:
ISO8859-1 versus UTF. But this is not related to Krusader.

I need some clarifications about these arguments:
What does `--separate` actually do?
It does not fork the process, it always blocks the parent. And it always starts
a new instance/window.
Is this a bug or does it something else?

And `--new-tab` opens a new window in some cases:
1. Start an instance with "$ konsole"
2. Try to open a new tab in this instance: "$ konsole --new-tab": a new window
is opened

If the initial instance is started with "konsole --new-tab" it works as
expected. Another bug?

Like Marcin, I can't reproduce it. Everything seems fine with Kompare and
KDiff3.

What are your actions, "Open with" or "Compare by content"? You have selected
two (plain text) files?

How about other files, different paths or filesystem?

Hahaha, oh wow. This is what happened: you removed every column in the detailed
view and the header disappeared. Now this is the default setting and I myself
found no way to get the header back.

Quick workaround: Close Krusader and delete the config file

/home//.kde4/share/config/krusaderrc
(or similar)

But this shouldn't be possible - we have to fix this. Thanks for reporting!

A bit of information is missing here, please be more specific:
* which version are you referring to?
* with "adjusting headings" you mean resizing a column?
* this happens for every panel/every tab?
* under each panel is an info bar for the selection ("x out of y"), is this
number correct or changing?

Ok, i did some testing again and I'm pretty sure what your problem here is: it
simply makes it a different if you add "%U" to the command or not.
E.g. select some *.txt files, right-click->open with->Others... and
  (a) type "kate": an empty Kate instance opened, no files
  (b) type "kate %U": all files are opened in one Kate instance

Same with every other runnable including custom shell scripts.

And if you select a desktop entry it depends on its command what is executed.

My conclusion is that at this point it has nothing to do anymore with Krusader

I mean "open with -> other", this works for me. But this could be caused by
different versions, Okular 16.08.1, KF5 5.25.0 here.

Anyway, once fixed for Kate it will also be solved for Okular.

I tested Okular (again) with PDFs. Works fine, an instance for each file is
opened
Output:

Kate is indeed a problem. I don't know why KIO detects this wrong.

2. do not care if the application can't handle multiple files:  


A shell script is an example where we can't know if its supports multiple files

"Every day" for the last three months maybe. And the main work for over one
year is the port to KF5. A release when only half of the work is finished
doesn't make any sense. But we're working on a new release right now.

Krusader is as "real" as KDE is. The code is completely based on KF5 i.e. it
won't work at all without the kdelibs. We can make use of KDE's translation
service and don't have to package anything ourselves.

I have problems myself with KDEs infrastructure and Phabricator and I'm free to
discuss this with other devs. But there are always pros and cons.
