Hi, thanks for the info! This is extremely helpful. I also found it documented
in PPD repo:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/upower/power-profiles-daemon#panel-power-savings

Closing this issue as it is not a KDE issue. There appears to be no way to
configure values for ABM in PPD. I feel 3 is very aggressive and 2 would be
more usable.

Just to clarify my display is also not HDR.

I have another laptop with an AMD iGPU renoir. It does not support amd_pstate
and that's why it has no power profiles. The issue is also not reproducible.

So it seems power profiles is messing up with the color profiles?

[kde] [Bug 487268] New: Less contrast when using power saving mode

2024-05-20 Thread Bacteria
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487268

Bug ID: 487268
Summary: Less contrast when using power saving mode
Classification: I don't know
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Other
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: dev.bacterios...@aleeas.com
  Target Milestone: ---

This is a weird one. When I am using Power Saving mode, the contrast seems to
go down. Since KDE is doing a lot of work related to HDR and color profiles, I
wonder if my non-HDR display is trying to do HDR. I am not sure how to find out
if some color profile is being applied. The screen recorder is not able to
catch the issue and I don't have a good camera to record the slight change.

When I switch to Performance mode, the UI feels more contrasty like it used to
before, when I switch back to power saving, slowly the contrast goes away.

Also, when I plug in my laptop the colors go back to normal on all modes.
Unplugging with power saving mode selected again results in a less contrast
output.

Okay, so I can't reproduce when the Floating panel is enabled. Here are the
updated instructions for reproducing this:

1. Add a new Empty Panel in horizontal mode
2. Set Panel length to "Fit Content"

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
For the default mode of Digital Clock, the panel width is fine but any
configuration that takes more width causes this issue.

2023-11-09 Thread Bacteria
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=476745

Bug ID: 476745
Summary: Creating an Empty Panel with "Fit Content" option
crashes plasma
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Other
OS: Other
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Panel
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: dev.bacterios...@aleeas.com
CC: niccolo.venera...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
Creating an Empty Panel with "Fit Content" option crashes plasma

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create an empty panel
2. Enter edit mode and set panel width to "Fit Content"
3. Hover over the panel or just try to use plasmashell
4. Plasmashell crashes

OBSERVED RESULT
Plasmashell crashes and I see the following error:

ASSERT: "!(max < min)" in file /usr/include/qt6/QtCore/qminmax.h, line 46

When the plasmashell starts, I also see this error. Not sure if it related:
file:///home/daemone/kde6/usr/share/plasma/shells/org.kde.plasma.desktop/contents/views/Panel.qml:102:5:
QML Connections: Detected function "onActivated" in Connections element. This
is probably intended to be a signal handler but no signal of the target matches
the name.

EXPECTED RESULT
Not sure how this can be handled.

SUMMARY
When the clipboard is empty, copying 2 screenshots one after other using

One thing to note here is that the behavior is not reproducible when using
Spectacle's notification to copy, it only happens from the spectacle window
that has "Copy to Clipboard" button.

Not sure if this should go to Spectacle or Clipboard, feel free to put it in
the right place.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Clear the clipboard
2. Launch spectacle and take a screenshot
3. After the screenshot is taken, click on "Copy to Clipboard" button.
4. Uncheck "Quit after manual Save or Copy" if it is checked
5. Again copy the screenshot using "Copy to Clipboard" button

OBSERVED RESULT
Clipboard loses both the screenshots

EXPECTED RESULT
Clipboard should not be cleared

Flickering of task manager entry indicating loss and gain of focus

SUMMARY
I started noticing that sometimes panel won't get focused and most notably with
Task Manager. In the attached video, it is very clear that there are regions on
the panels that don't activate the focus of the panel items.

Note:
1. In the video, I am using Floating Panel because it is very easy to spot the
issue. But this also happens when I am not using Floating Panel.
2. It also happens with system tray items but not easily reproducible.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use Floating Panel with Expanded Task Manager
2. Open a window
3. Minimize it
4. Move the mouse pointer in the padding between the edge of screen and
floating panel.

OBSERVED RESULT
There is a flickering of task manager item demonstrating loss and gain of focus

EXPECTED RESULT
Focus should stay consistent as I am hovering over the task manager entry

SUMMARY
Padding gets reset when layout is loaded. Even though the Padding field on the
top right shows the value that I have set it to.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set padding to anything custom (15 in my case)
2. Tile a window, window should tile with the padding set
3. Load a layout from the "Load Layout.." menu
4. Note that the padding value on the top right is still the one that you have
set i.e, 15
5. Tile a window

OBSERVED RESULT
Window uses the default layout padding

EXPECTED RESULT
Window should either use the padding set by user or the 'Padding' field should
reset to default when a layout is loaded.

Video demonstrating the bug

SUMMARY
Copying text once from GTK app is registered by clipboard applet but subsequent
copying of text from the same GTK app is not registered. If I open another GTK
app, for it too, copying gets registered first time but then stops getting
registered after that. Clearing the clipboard resets the situation and you can
copy once again.

To be clear that the normal copy paste operation works, it is just that the
applet is not detecting it.

I am positive this bug comes from Frameworks 5.102, there were some changes
made to address bug 454379, it might be a side-effect of that.

I have tested this with Firefox, Chromium, Signal, VSCode.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open a GTK app like Firefox, Chromium, Signal, VSCode.
2. Copy some text and check clipboard applet
3. Copied text shows in the clipboard
4. Copy text again from the same app and check clipboard applet

OBSERVED RESULT
The copied text does not show up in the clipboard applet

EXPECTED RESULT
It must show up in the clipboard applet

I was exploring debuginfod on Arch and decided to get backtrace for this
particular case. Opened Gwenview, copied file and closed it. Then tried to
launch KickOff and gdb stopped and said "plasmashell" received SIGPIPE. And i
got this backtrace: https://pastebin.com/cyEdHnv7

Not sure if it can help. But posting it here anyway

Indeed, bug 451631 looks like a duplicate. I will mark that one as duplicate of
this one because of more consistent reproducing instructions.
