This is just the main timeline. If you don't have any other sequences this is
where all assets (videos, images, audio, titles, ...) are shown in the project
bin. I am not particularly happy how Kdenlive handles that but that's a
different story.

I looked at the screen recording you attached (thanks for that) and frankly
don't understand why this doesn't work for you. I just tested the same effect
on an image and a video file in the bin, on an image and video clip in the
timeline, and on a sequence I created from an image and a video: everything
works as expected - images and video clips get inverted no matter where the
effect is applied.

I could load it without any issues into my Kdenlive 24.05.2 flatpak on Pop!_OS

I am assuming you mean a bin effect, where you drag and drop an effect from the
Effects list to a video file in the Project Bin, right?

If that's the case, I can report that it works for me (Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS with
Kdenlive 24.05.2 flatpak). Could you try the appimage?

> @Bernd: I watched the video but the quality is very low and I cannot read

> describe the issue with an annotated screenshot maybe?

Sorry for that, J-B-M. I had to run it through Handbrake to keep the size below
the 4MB limit of bugs.kde.org. What I did is this:
* Add seven clips to the timeline
* Switch to the Multicam tool and hit Play
* I press the track numbers in sequence starting with 1, and going in reverse
order after reaching 7, than up again
* Once I run out of tracks, I reload the project and repeat this but this time
scrubbing through the timeline and pressing the track numbers inthe same order
(1-7, 7-1, 1-7, ...)

The first thing I noted is that in the Multicam tool view in the project
monitor, the number of the last track used (i.e. a clip was added to) is
highlighted, and if I press 1 the first cut is made in track #7.

The first cadence (1 thru 7) goes ok in the first pass but then gets out of
sync. Perhaps pressing the number of a track that doesn't have a clip trips up
Kdenlive, but this issue is most noticable in the second pass (scrubbing).

The original screen recording (albeit it edited) is about 10MB. If you still
need it, I can share it via opendesktop.

Oh, that's interesting and good to know but very confusing. Especially when
exchanging project files like we just did. Can this be prevented
programmatically? Shall I create a FR for this or is an issue better?

Also, have you had a chance to watch the screen recording I provided? I noticed
the tracks get mixed up. I can open a new bug request if you prefer.

Thanks for the project file, but the files are needed too if we want to
pinpoint the culprit.

BTW, @J-B-M, the project file open without the sequences. It is all mashed up
in the same timeline, no tabs with the sequences although they show up in the
project bin and can be collapsed and expanded there. Regression?

I just tried it on Linux Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS with Kdenlive appimage version
24.05.2 and it works like it should and is documented: cuts are made the other
tracks are shifted accordingly.

Please try with the appimage.

But I also noticed that when scrubbing the track numbers are somehow mixed up.

When processing the video, the loading bar and the processing time are working

Sorry to hear that. I came across several posts in other forums about Fedora
being very finicky. In all cases Kdenlive caused many issues in all areas (UI,
performance, rendering). Can't remember whether it's possible to run appimages

Did you check whether the track is muted (I know, I'm asking the obvious), the
project monitor is muted, the render option includes audio (there is a
checkmark!), there is no effect on the audio track and/or clip.

It would help if you could provide screenshots of the timeline, the effect
stack(s), the render settings, etc. Thanks!

This is also the case with appimage 24.05: Once Glaxnimate is closed while the
project is still open in Kdenlive, editing the animation is possible but
without the background showing in Glaxnimate. Both applications have to be
closed and opened again (Glaxnimate from within Kdenlive) to show the
background.

One more observation: The first time Glaxnimate is opened, there is no
background. It shows only after the playhead in Glaxnimate is moved along the

   Version: 6.0.2
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED

  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 170358

Screenshot of Kmail message viewer

SUMMARY

I've set my screen to 165% fractional scaling for this test; it looks similar
with 150% or any other reasonable fractional scaling. While the rest of KMail
or Kontact looks pixel by pixel as it should be, the mail view window looks
badly scaled, not even blurred, but pixels getting twice as large.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use Wayland and set main screen to fractional scale 150%
2. Open KMail or Kontact to look at a test mail (HTML or plaintext)

OBSERVED RESULT
Badly scaled text, where individual strokes have different size (look e.g. at
an “m”).

EXPECTED RESULT
Well rendered text, see the menu for comparison

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma: Kontact 6.0.2 (24.02.2)
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.2.0
Qt Version: 6.7.1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I'm looking through KDE which parts are not working well on a fractional scaled
output, and this is one of the few cases I found. For the components, it is a
subcomponent of the message list, which otherwise is fine.

Yes, please. I am very sure this has nothing to do with Kdenlive per se, so it
needs to be brought to the attention of the folks maintaining kvantum.

I noticed that every time a clip job is run for the same (original) clip an
extra - (minus or dash) is added before the automatically created filename
suffix "". So, the first file generated by the clip job is called
-0001.mp4, the second becomes --0002.mp4
and then <...>---0003.mp4 and so forth

Test works: I added a new clip job with an ffmpeg command line parameter list
enclosed with " and it works.

The field Output File Extension expects an extension like mp4 or mkv, and
throws an error if anything else is entered. I don't understand why this is
needed as ffmpeg uses the same container as the input file. If the field is to
have a file name suffix like "clip_job" or "0001" it doesn't work that way and
would need to be renamed to Output File Suffix.

I think we should unless JBM changes the way " and/or ' are being handled.
Interestingly enough, in most if not all forum posts with ffmpeg scripts or CL
examples " or ' are used (see eyduh's example in the Telegram group). And it
works in a terminal. Therefore my preference is to change it in Kdenlive so
that the user can copy and paste ffmpeg CL examples.
If that's an easy fix we leave the doc as is; if it's more complex and taking
more time or not even worth JBM's time, let's update the doc.

What we should definitely fix in Kdenlive is the extended tool tip as it is
wrong.

Bug ID: 487115
Summary: Custom Clip Job error message for ffmpeg parameters
Classification: Applications
   Product: kdenlive
   Version: 24.04.90
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Effects & Transitions

Clip job error message

SUMMARY
The parameters for ffmpeg are not passed on correctly even though the same work
perfectly using ffmpeg in a terminal.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a new Clip Job with Executable /usr/bin/ffmpeg and the following
Arguments:
-i {source} -crf 10 -vf
"minterpolate=fps={param2}:mi_mode=mci:mc_mode=aobmc:me_mode=bidir:vsbmc=1"
{output}
2. For Parameter 2 select Request option from list, name it "fps" and create
list with the values 30, 60, 120, 240
3. Start the clip job on a video clip in the bin and select 60 for fps

OBSERVED RESULT
See atatchment

EXPECTED RESULT
For comparison enter this into a terminal: ffmpeg -i -crf 10
-vf "minterpolate=fps=60:mi_mode=mci:mc_mode=aobmc:me_mode=bidir:vsbmc=1"

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux: Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.0.0
Qt Version: 6.6.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The Shift tool tip in the Arguments window refers to {%1}, {%2} and {%3} for
parameter 1, parameter 2 and output filename. In fact it is {source}, {param1},
{param2} and {output}

First, you can only drag a Composition to the timeline. Second, a composition
needs two individual and adjacent tracks to work. So if you want to drag a
composition/transition from the Compositions widget to the timeline you need to
have the clips in, say, V1 and V2.

If you want to use same-track transitions, you have to create a Mix between the
two adjacent clips by clicking on the Mix icon in the Timeline Toolbar (it
looks like a checkered flag). This creates a same-track transition of type
Dissolve by default, but you can change that by clicking on the Mix and select
the method.

Having said this, I agree with your expectation that when a composition is
dragged onto two adjacent clips, Kdenlive should treat that as a Mix. However,
we then need a way to differentiate between a composition of adjacent clips in
different tracks and adjacent clips in the same track. Perhaps the former is
"selected" when the composition is dropped anywhere on the clip, the latter
when the composition is dropped exactly at the cut.

Do you know that you can use the number keys on the keyboard to select the
respective video track? Unfortunately, this doesn't work for video tracks > 9,
though. Another way is to use the up and down arrow keys to move up and down in
the timeline, i.e. selecting the next track up or down.

[dolphin] [Bug 486610] New: Support locking tabs

2024-05-05 Thread Bernd Steinhauser

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
First, thanks for developing dolphin, I've been using it ever since it was
first included in KDE 4 and really enjoy using it.
However, there are sometimes still features that I'm missing and one of those
is the ability to lock tabs. I know this feature from Free Commander, which I
do use on Windows systems. Here, three versions can be selected, of which each
can be useful in their own way. I like this feature, because I have folders
(e.g. code folders) that I use very often and together with the ability to
rename tabs (which is also not implemented) it makes it easier and better to
keep the tabs organized.
1. Lock tab, don't allow navigation
2. Lock tab, allow navigation to subfolders
3. Lock tab, allow any navigation

The expected behavior would be the following:
- Could be implemented by context menu on tab button
- When navigation against the locking rule is requested (e.g. parent folder),
create a duplicate of the tab that is not locked and jump to that folder
- If navigation is allowed: when selecting a different tab and then going back
to the locked tab, jump back to the originally locked folder. (This is
debatable for 2., but should be the behavior for 3.)
- When attempting to close the tab, ask for verification

SUMMARY
When editing a Glaxnimate animation from the timeline, the background is just
checkered and the timeline video is not displayed. This is not a duplicate of
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=464897 as it is for Linux and the latest

onward, PPA is not supported anymore.

1. Create a new animation
2. Put the animation into the timeline in a video track above one already
containing a clip
3. Double-click the animation clip in the timeline

OBSERVED RESULT
Glaxnimate is called and opens the animation for editing but does not display
the timeline video clip frames as background

Timeline video clip frames are shown as background images in the Glaxnimate

XML files. While Kdenlive recognizes that and asks the user to pick the file
they want installed, the window with that message does not present the options.
This seems to work in Windows but not in Linux versions of Kdenlive.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Click the Download New Effects button in the effects widget
2. Click on the Install button of the Spin Transition CCS - 14f 2 effect
provided by nuxttux

OBSERVED RESULT
Kdenlive prompts the user to pick which installation option they want installed
but does not present them. The window for that message cannot be resized but is
fixed to the Download New Effects window's width and has a fixed height.

EXPECTED RESULT
Kdenlive prompts the user to pick which installation option they want installed
and presents them. The window for that message can be resized to show all
possible options without the need for scrolling.
Additionally (=[Feature Request]!!!), all available options/XML files should be
installable in parallel.

Thanks for uploading the screen recording. I would assume that both files play
ok in VLC, for example.

You are using 23.08.5 which is not quite one year old, but a lot of things have
changed with version 24.02.2, and 24.05 is close to be released as Beta.
Perhaps you can help testing it.

If you do not want to wait for the new release, I suggest to un-install your
version and upgrade to 24.02.2. If that's not possible for whatever reason (for
example you need the audio recording feature which is missing in 24.02.2 due to
Qt6 issues) I suggest you un-install your version and install 23.08.5 which was
a stable release before the switch from Qt5 to Qt6.

This may not be desirable in all cases and I think this should not be done by
default. Tracks can be easily deleted by right-clicking on the track header,
selecting Delete and then ticking all the tracks you want to delete.

However, I could think of a dialog window to be presented when Menu > Project >
Clean Project is selected that shows what shall be cleaned. "Delete all empty
tracks" could be one of the options.

[Spectacle] [Bug 484995] New: When taking rectangle screen shot, screen edge triggers should be blocked

2024-04-03 Thread Bernd Steinhauser
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=484995

Bug ID: 484995
Summary: When taking rectangle screen shot, screen edge
triggers should be blocked
Classification: Applications
   Product: Spectacle
   Version: 24.02.1
  Platform: Exherbo
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: noaha...@gmail.com
  Reporter: li...@bernd-steinhauser.de
CC: k...@david-redondo.de
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When entering (rectanlge) screenshot mode, I don't think anybody would want to
activate any of these effects, but rather just select the area they want to
capture.
Thus, for the time until the selection was finished, spectacle should tell the
kwin to block these as well as possibly other gesture-activated functions.
(That is, unless on some devices a gesture would be required to exit the
selection mode?)

Note that I wasn't sure whether this classifies as a bug or a wishlist item.
Personally I see it as the former, since in my opinion currently something is
happening that really shouldn't be happening, but I could see why one would
consider it just as a wish.
I also wasn't sure if this should be assigned to spectacle or some plasma
component.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Systemsettings -> Mouse & Touchpad -> Screen Edges -> Setup some action
there, e.g. "Overview"
2. Start spectacle's rectangle selection via hotkeys
3. Move the cursor towards the screen edge as configured previously

OBSERVED RESULT
The selected effect executes.

EXPECTED RESULT
Desktop should ignore screen edge and stay in selection mode.

[konsole] [Bug 426276] Split view: change view shortcuts

2024-03-17 Thread Bernd Steinhauser
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=426276

(In reply to Alfonso Murolo from comment #5)
> Interesting, is that also supported in tmux? (I do not have a lot of
> experience with it).
Neither do I, but here's an excerpt of the manual:
https://www.man7.org/linux/man-pages/man1/tmux.1.html#DEFAULT_KEY_BINDINGS
; Move to the previously active pane.
n Change to the next window
o Select the next pane in the current window.
p Change to the previous window.
Up, Down, Left, Right Change to the pane above, below, to the left,
or to the right of the current pane.

In terms of tmux, a window is what we call a tab or view for Konsole. A pane is
a terminal in that view/tab.
So yes, it does have that capability. Interestingly, it has bindings for
cycling through terminals forward, but not backward. For going back, there is
only the option to select the last pane, which goes back and forth between the
last two used panes.

> What I am currently unsure about your formulation, is that your concept
> implies a linearization and a consequent sorting of the splitted views, in
> order to cycle through them in a predictable manner. If this feature is
> already implemented somewhere in a manner which is generally accepted, that
> would be good to know to take it as reference.

tmux does this by assigning an index to the panes, which is also how I'd
propose to do it. It's the simplest (and most common) way of dealing with this
issue. Like you also have an index for the tab ordering when cycling through UI
elements using the tab key.
In case you want to know, in tmux, you can briefly display the pane index by
using Ctrl+b and q.

Also keep in mind that using cursor keys can be ambiguous as well. Say you have
one terminal left and two terminals split top/bottom on the right.
Now if you're in the left and you use the shortcut to go right, which should
Konsole choose?

That's remappable, it's called "Focus Above/Below/Left/Right Terminal".

What at least I meant was something like "Cycle Through Terminals in Current
View".
That's of course less specific than the one with arrows, where you can specify
the direction, but I rarely split a view into more than two terminals, so it'd
be a better fit for me.

Can confirm this.

I found that it only happens for me if I have "Home" selected when starting the

If I select "All Applications" and then search, it works fine without crashing.
Like for Tammes, I only use Discover for Flathub, since my package manager does
not support appstream.

So it seems likely that it's related to that.

I second this. As a workaround, I tend to use the shortcut Ctrl+Tab to toggle

I really miss a dedicated shortcut to do that. :(

on the x to "close" the window, will not minimize the program to the system
tray, but instead nothing will happen. (Also not closing of konversation)
Left click on the system tray icon will also not do anything.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install the specified version from KDE apps 24.02
2. Open konversation, enable system tray
3. Close konversation
4. Open konversation again, click on the x to close the window

OBSERVED RESULT

A possible workaround is to deactivate system tray in the options and then
activate it again afterwards. Then it will work until the program is restarted.
Thus step 3 and 4 in the list above. However, this doesn't seem to work every

I've verified this on my laptop, which is running RC2 on Arch Linux. This
laptop has never run Plasma 5 and especially never run palapeli before, so it
started with a clean config.

[kdenlive] [Bug 479370] Projekt-settings - files - plain text export

I can confirm for appimage 23.08.4 on Linux that the dialog window indeed shows
as an Open File dialog. However, after entering a filename and clicking on
``Open`` Kdenlive created the file with the project file information. So it
does what you want but in an awkward way ;-)

Interestingly enough, the file type drop down lists only one type in German:
"Einfaches Textdocument (*.txt *.asc *,v)". Also note the comma instead of the
period for filetype "v" (whatever that is).
