This is most probably issue in BlueZ. You can confirm it by removing your audio
device from known devices, disabling Plasma Bluetooth integration (from KCM
Bluetooth -> Advanced) and then trying to connect to the device with
"bluetoothctl".

--- Comment #5 from David Rosca  ---
Alright, so please restart kded5 with debug output enabled for Bluedevil:

kquitapp5 kded5
QT_LOGGING_RULES="bluedevil.debug=true" kded5

After that, make sure bluedevil module is loaded - open Bluetooth settings in
KCM and make sure there is no error. You should see in output lines "bluedevil"
category. Then try to send a file to PC and upload the whole kded5 output here
as attachement.

That's because chromium browsers sets following properties to streams:

application.icon_name = "chromium-browser"
application.name = "Chromium"
application.process.binary = "qupzilla" (or opera, vivaldi, ...)
module-stream-restore.id = "sink-input-by-application-name:Chromium"

Sound applet prefers the icon_name entry and that's why it displays chromium
icon. I won't make special case for those browsers.

Try to be more clever about what sink to use for volume control

This changes the applet to display volume icon and control volume
through scroll / global shortcuts of "preferred" sink.

Preferred sink is currently chosen according to these rules:
  * if there is only one sink, that sink is preferred
  * if there is some sink that is currently playing some sound, that
sink is preferred (if default sink is playing sound, default sink
is used instead)
  * if there is some sink that is currently idle (there are streams on
the device, but not currently playing), that one sink is preferred
(same exception for default sink is used here as in case above)

This should help with changing the volume of correct audio device in
most cases.

Great, I was looking into how to do it with just libpulse and there unloading
module requires more work (retrieve list of loaded plugins and unload it by

For the module-switch-on-connect option we would also need to unload
module-device-manager as those two conflicts with each other.

Git commit 0abf1b7a148cf6b27caea01a329631e0f1daa983 by David Rosca.
Committed on 12/07/2016 at 07:54.
Pushed by drosca into branch 'master'.

KIconEngine: Fix QIcon::hasThemeIcon always returning true

QIcon::hasThemeIcon(name) checks if QIcon::name() == name,
so icon engine must return empty string when icon doesn't exist.
Also implement IsNullHook for Qt 5.7. Comes with autotest.

[plasma-pa] [Bug 364980] Plasma-pa Is Not Feature Parity with KMix

2016-07-01 Thread David Rosca via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=364980

--- Comment #3 from David Rosca  ---
Event Sounds (displayed as Notification Sounds) are supported in 5.7, but it is
displayed only in KCM.

Vertical sliders are not supported, but in current state it doesn't really make
sense as popup of systray applets cannot be resized by the applet, and it would
require the possibility to grow the applet width (as kmix popup when using
vertical sliders).

[plasma-pa] [Bug 364687] Default device is not remembered

2016-06-24 Thread David Rosca via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=364687

--- Comment #3 from David Rosca  ---
I know about start-pulseaudio-kde which loads module-device-manager that
handles audio routing. It has nothing to do with default device as interpreted
by pulseaudio.

You can still use it and there is nothing in plasma-pa code that would conflict
with it. Default device in pulseaudio is used as a fallback device.

No, I don't want to pick up the module-device-manager. Initially, I though
about it but eventually decided against it. It is module that was specially
written for KDE, is not used anywhere else and it doesn't handle the most used
case of switching audio output to newly connected device (as in your test
case). This is now done by the module-switch-on-connect which I plan to use
instead.

Hm, that's kind of to be expected actually. All it does is to change the
default device in pulseaudio, so ideally pulseaudio should remember it.

I cannot reproduce the crash with just opening the volume settings a second
time, but I can get the same backtrace sometimes when switching config category
(eg. from Audio Volume to Keyboard Shortcuts).

I cannot reproduce with Qt 5.6, but I am now getting these crashes with Qt 5.7.
