2024-04-11 Thread Germano Massullo
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485380

Bug ID: 485380
Summary: cannot print if using option "Pages from ... to ..."
Classification: Applications

   Version: 24.02.1
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal

 Component: printing
  Assignee: okular-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: germano.massu...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Probably a Qt 6 print stack problem, but before escalating in Qt bugreport
website I would like to first start here, since it's the place where I
originally experienced the problem.

In Okular printing options, you can find:
Print range:
- Print all
- Pages from ... to ...
- Pages
- Current page
- Selection

I had to print two pages of a PDF document I cannot share publicly, with double
sided printing.
So I selected "Pages" option and I wrote 479-480, selected "double sided
printing" "long side binding" and pressed "print" button. The printer did not
start (debug CUPS infos attached in file cups_not_working_journal.txt).
If I instead use the option "Pages from 479 to 480" the printer works (debug
CUPS infos attached in cups_working_journal.txt).

Steps to reproduce:
1) Connect two monitors with different DPIs

Breeze light
3) logout and login
4) Open a few Gtk and Qt applications, you will see the mouse pointer being 48

I connected to a wifi that redirected my browser to a "accept rules" webpage (a

had to wait for some minutes for the DHCP to refresh.
Meanwhile Plasma started to complain about self signed certificates and started
to continuosly crash.
I try to attach some gdb crashreports

Bug ID: 460578
Summary: kate stuck when opening huge single line file
Classification: Applications
   Product: kate
   Version: 22.08.1
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED

gdb trace

This bugreport concerns kate-22.08.1
Website https://profiler.firefox.com/ generates a big single line JSON file. In
my case the dimension is ~40 MB.
Kate is not able to open it, and it will get stuck. I noticed that it can
happen also with smaller files (8 MB).
I managed to get some parts of GDB debugging. some may get lost since GDB has
tried to print content of the huge file in standard output, exceeding Yakuake
unlimited scroll limit. By running GDB again I should have been to reconstruct
the GDB output

[frameworks-kio] [Bug 178678] Navigating mounted network locations is extremely slow in Dolphin compared to command line

2022-09-27 Thread Germano Massullo
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=178678

I have VERY INTERESTING NEWS (see bottom part of the message)

(In reply to Harald Sitter from comment #96)
> I'm pretty sure you've not caught it being busy right there. The GUI thread
> is entirely idle.

I think it's the client system triggering too much I/O on the server because it
tries to retrieve as much data as possible from the remote folders. This is not
happening when using Krusader

> What happens if you remove the Size column from the view and restart dolphin?
> Does that make things more responsive?

I am still able to reproduce a situation where Dolphin is stuck and the server
is loaded with a lot of I/O, so the anwer is "no, disabling size column does
not make things more responsive"

> If so, does tweaking the folder size display setting in dolphin's View Modes
> settings make any difference in performance? Also, what have you configured
> there for the size display?

The size is already the smallest one and the view is "detailed view"

BUT!!

if instead I set Dolphin to use "Icon" view, the problem is no longer
happening! The folders that used to "stuck" Dolphin are no longer causing
troubles, the folder browsing is very smooth and also I don't see any massive
I/O on the storage server

To make sure to be able to reliable reproduce/not reproduce the problem, in
order to clear all caches, before each test I have ran following commands:

on the client:
$ fusermount -u mount_point
on the storage server:
# zpool export pool_name
# zpool import -d /dev/disk/by-id pool_name
 on the client:
$ sshfs username@ip_address:/pool_name/dataset mount_point
