[kdenlive] [Bug 483616] ability to add title clips missing

2024-03-16 Thread Gerry Gavigan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483616

Someone has just changed status to "grave" so I feel obliged to add that
following advice received I found the missing dependency in the Tumbleweed
repository and it fixed the problem, so.it was never a kdenlive problem but
rather an upstream hiccup following the update to Plasma 6/Qt6.

There didn't seem to be an mlt folder as you describe. However, searching using
YaST revealed that a likely suspect had not been installed. All is now well.

[kdenlive] [Bug 480918] razor tool stopped working

2024-02-05 Thread Gerry Gavigan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=480918

Having rendered the file and started again all is working as it should.

I do not know if it is relevant but I *think* the last thing I did before the
razor tool failed was to tack a small file on the end of the video stream with
a transition.

Is it related to bug #479875?

using appImage

Thank you for responding so quickly. The AppImage was a bit unhappy with my
project so I took the two basic files I am trying to transition and created a
new project with no better success. FWIW the header (beginning) has been used
many times before. Occasionally the problem has arisen and one random fix was
to trim a tiny bit off the new file and "close all gaps (which of course might
be cargo culture).

The new piece of information that might or might not be relevant is the new
version didn't like the header file (intro.mp4)

I'm now using 24.04.3 and stability seem to have generally improved. During a
long editing session I got bored with "delete clip close gap" and sloped off
back to "extract clip" and for the first time in a very long editing session
kdenlive crashed. I cannot claim causality but it is seems like a strange
coincidence

I got stuck in a loop in which kdenlive crashed so, despite not having any
extracted clips, I found a way to continue was to clean the project so removing
a clip I had previously added. Then adding back the clip allowed me to continue
normally.

I am using version 22.12.2 on Tumbleweed. The crackling has recently appeared
usually after an edit. My audio settings are

Audio backend: SDL
Audio driver: Automatic
Audio device: default

Until now I had never even looked at them. If I try to change the driver to
Pipewire, kdenlive crashes on start-up

For the first time ever I have experienced loss of left-handedness (but not
settings in system settings) on my desktop. It's not clear what triggered it
but I had leant on my keyboard clumsily and needed to get out of Mozilla full
screen settings. At that point the mouse was right handed.

As a user, I have adopted Wayland. Apart from a refusal to leave the clock
where I left it on the desktop, everything else is fine. Always left-handed and
as a side effect Wayland deals with hi-res screens better too.

For me the evidence is pointing to Bluetooth.

It doesn't seem to Intel (my desktop with an AMD processor and USB mouse does
not exhibit the problem
It doesn't seem to be about the mouse (I have never experienced the problem
with a wired mouse)
It doesn't seem to be a USB problem (an Intel based laptop with USB mouse does
not exhibit the problem)

Recently most recently my Bluetooth mouse exhibited a new problem in that it
failed to work at all. However as you can see from the screenshot, (see
"battery strength") the system recognised it

I am confused about the latest comment on bug 397971 suggesting that the mouse
settings problem be dealt with here.

I am using an ASUS UX305C laptop to type this report.

I am using Tumbleweed updated yesterday with no modification or scripts.

Today, on power up, the left-handed radio button is checked.

As usual in order to trigger left-handedness, I had to toggle the radio button
off and on.

Until today that would work

Today this ritual restores left-handedness for less than a minute. There is no
event that I can identify causing this to happen.

It's a Bluetooth mouse. I do not know if this is part of the problem. Until
recently Bluetooth was problematic, often not enabled on power up and with
sometimes no adapter detected. Logging out and logging in was one way to cure
the problem.

Bluetooth now seems stable but the left-handness problem has reached the point
of uselessness.

The only other thing I can say is that with my desktop and a USB mouse I have
never experienced any problems with left-handedness

On power up the left-hand radio button is checked but the mouse is
right-handed. To persuade the mouse to be left-handed I have to toggle the
radio button twice.

This only happens to me on an laptop. I never see it on my desktop.

In current Tumbleweed the not respecting left-handedness problem has reawakened
from the apparent dead and seems to be interacting with Bluetooth, which
doesn't always respect the state it was set to after power off or log out.
Further there seems to be some process that takes its time before telling me my
Bluetooth mouse is connected, which is new. Not sure if it is a system settings
problem or a Bluetooth problem

I don't know if this helps however, like everyone else on the planet I have a
key marked in two rows "prt sc" and "sysrq" so I've been using shift "prt sc"
to take a screenshot.

This causes kinit to crash

I've just discovered that shift is not needed and then kinit doesn't crash.

Having updated to Plasma 5.20 I ran the command on a Ryzen based desktop and an
Intel based laptop.

It was unclear to me what behaviour I was to get (I was hoping for a right to
left desktop)

On the Ryzen it caused a segfault

On the Intel it has the effect of reducing the size of the icons on the task
manager to about 25% or their original size and rearranging the layout into two
rows.

my experience in opensuse is that if subsequently I unmount the usb stick on
the command line the "malformed URL" problem goes away - weird that it is
cross-distro as otherwise I would suggest it is not a KDE problem.

Not sure if is it related, but simultaneously with until recently I could hot
plug a USB caddy containing a NTFS 1Tb hard drive (for lazy back up of "stuff")
but now KDE doesn't like it - complaining that the file system is a problem

[kaddressbook] [Bug 378437] lost functionality

2017-04-27 Thread Gerry Gavigan

--- Comment #5 from Gerry Gavigan <gerrys...@gmail.com> ---
I realise I might be giving too much information. This is about kmail.

The issue is with kmail and address lists and there is no workaround by
starting with kaddressbook

[kaddressbook] [Bug 378437] lost functionality

2017-04-27 Thread Gerry Gavigan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=378437

--- Comment #4 from Gerry Gavigan <gerrys...@gmail.com> ---
The kaddressbook issue only arises because I was trying to work around the lost
functionality in kmail.

I was trying to demonstrate there was no workaround to the kmail address list
problem.

If it were possible (as before) to add the address list to the "cc" or "bcc" in
kmail then I would not have tried to do it via kaddressbook.

I do not actually know if it were ever possible to use kaddressbook as I tried,
but if kmail functionality were restored it would not matter.

[kaddressbook] [Bug 378437] lost functionality

2017-04-26 Thread Gerry Gavigan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=378437

--- Comment #2 from Gerry Gavigan <gerrys...@gmail.com> ---

Case 1: opening kaddressbook

send an email "to" an address list works

Send an email to someone "cc" or "bcc" an address list doesn't work
(cannot extract automatically, the addresses from the address list)

This is important because the owner of an address list rarely, if ever, wants
to use the "to" option because of the individual privacy of addressees

Case 2: opening kmail

The only way to use an address list is to select addresses from it one-by-one

This makes an address list almost useless

Expected behaviour would be that having copied the address list title into one
of the fields in an email ("to" "cc" or "bcc") that kmail extracts the email
addresses from the address list and autofills the field containing the address
list title

2017-04-06 Thread Gerry Gavigan

--- Comment #6 from Gerry Gavigan <gerrys...@gmail.com> ---
If one has a named mailing list in kaddressbook then typing that name into a
kmail address field causes kmail to try to send the email to

@

I think the absence of akonadi-runtime is not an issue. Attempting to install
it invites de-installation of the sqlite database underpinning kmail
