[kmail2] [Bug 368515] Kmail crashing some time after start

2016-10-06 Thread Gerry Gavigan via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=368515

My problem turned out to caused by either the nouveau video driver or a
underlying library (libqt5-webengine 5.7.0-4.1) getting uphappy with HTML
formatted emails.

Kmail was an innocent bystander confirmed by replacing nouveau with the nvidia
driver.

Similar problem using kmail5 16.08.1 from openSUSE Tumbleweed 20161003 on a two
user system

The underlying mail system seems to be working, e.g., mail is retrieved from
the POP3 server and occasionally it is possible to send and receive one email
but kmail persistently crashes on both accounts, usually immediately

The crash report couldn't generate anything useful

Running kmail from command line produces this:

[kmail2] [Bug 362710] Message list view does not show any text (invisible sender, subject, date etc)

2016-10-03 Thread Gerry Gavigan via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=362710

For new readers, this is a two user system, one a heavy user of kmail the other
not.

The problem had disappeared since June (no updates, that's my job...) and has
just reoccurred

I can confirm that Wolfgang Bauer's "fix" (comment 11) fixed it here too but is
there a better solution pending, please?

in my case it was a clean install, and the mail was imported via the kmail
utility. I don't think there were any legacy settings

thanks for investigating, here's everything I know to date:

It's a two user system - one with about 20 emails, one with about 5,500:

- both had had custom colours selected (light blue is a bit faint for old
blokes, hint)
- the problem manifested on the 5,500 account
- toggling custom colours (and logging out, logging in) didn't seem to work
- during weeding out the 5,500 email account - including using the search
function, the problem righted itself
- everything at the moment is ok
