[akregator] [Bug 488799] New: Fails to add valid RSS feed through GUI and crashes using CLI with --addfeed option

2024-06-20 Thread Graeme Hewson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=488799

Bug ID: 488799
   Summary: Fails to add valid RSS feed through GUI and crashes
using CLI with --addfeed option
Classification: Applications
   Product: akregator
   Version: 5.24.5
  Platform: Kubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: feed parser
  Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: b...@wormhole.me.uk
  Target Milestone: ---

Unable to add https://greenparty.org.uk/feed/. The W3C Feed Validation Service
says "This is a valid RSS feed", with zero warnings:
http://validator.w3.org/feed/check.cgi?url=https%3A//greenparty.org.uk/feed/

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Click Feed / Add Feed
2. In Feed URL box enter https://greenparty.org.uk/feed/ and click OK
3. Popup error box says "Feed not found from https://greenparty.org.uk/feed/.;

I tried with the --addfeed option. I first renamed ~/.local/share/akregator to
~/.local/share/akregator.bak. This was the result:

$ akregator --addfeed https://greenparty.org.uk/feed/
"https://dot.kde.org/rss.xml;
"https://www.linux.com/feed/;
"https://planet.kde.org/global/atom.xml;
"https://store.kde.org/content.rdf;
"https://planet.kde-espana.org/atom.xml;
"http://planet.ubuntu.com/rss20.xml;
"http://feeds.feedburner.com/ubuntu-fridge;
"http://www.kubuntu.org/news/feed;
"unexpected character" on line 1
KCrash: crashing... crashRecursionCounter = 2
KCrash: Application Name = akregator path = /usr/bin pid = 678451
KCrash: Arguments: /usr/bin/akregator --addfeed https://greenparty.org.uk/feed/
KCrash: Attempting to start /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libexec/drkonqi

[1]+  Stopped akregator --addfeed
https://greenparty.org.uk/feed/

===

Perhaps the problem is that line 1 of the feed has both the xml version and the
rss version. The feed starts:

http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/;
xmlns:wfw="http://wellformedweb.org/CommentAPI/;
xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/;
xmlns:atom="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom;

Bug originally filed against Kubuntu:

Crash occurs in /usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/QtGui/qmatrix4x4.h with
EXTRACTPS instruction. This is part of the SSE4.1 instruction set, which is not
supported by AMD Athlon II processors.

The kdialog example above opens in ~/ correctly.

However, Gwenview also opens in $HOME, ignoring the Pictures path in Locations.

Since the problem is not now as I reported it, I'm closing the ticket.

Problem is unchanged in Plasma 5.25.5 (Kubuntu 22.10). Updating version number
in report.

I think a major source of confusion is that automount works on device names
instead of labels.
.config/kded_device_automounterrc contains entries starting with, for instance:

[Devices][/org/freedesktop/UDisks2/block_devices/sdb1]

If the removable media is plugged into a different socket and assigned a
different device name, it won't necessarily behave as expected.

[akregator] [Bug 193969] Open tabs so unnecessary for files

2021-03-10 Thread Graeme Hewson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=193969

--- Comment #4 from Graeme Hewson  ---
The behaviour is much the same in Akregator 5.13.3 with the default settings.

The default Browser setting is Left mouse click = Open in Tab. Perhaps this
indicates it's working as designed, but as the OP said this isn't the way it
used to work.

I see from my comment in 2012 that the popup had the option to open the
enclosure with an application (such as Amarok). Now there's no such option, and
all the popup offers to do is download the enclosure. The popup has the title
"Save HTML Page -- Akregator".

2020-10-21 Thread Graeme Hewson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=332035

--- Comment #2 from Graeme Hewson  ---
On point 1, the same thing happens. I go to System Settings / Removable Storage
(as it's called now). [Actually, I've just noticed it's called Removable
Storage in the System Settings side menu, but Removable Devices in the module
itself.]

I click Defaults, but nothing changes, and Apply continues to be greyed out. I
don't know what the defaults are, but if I make a change (say to disable
"Enable automatic mounting of removable media" [called media now!] and click
Apply, then click Defaults, then again nothing changes, and Apply continues to
be greyed out.

My expectation is that default settings would be made in the display, then the
Apply button would make these default settings permanent.

I'm using System Settings 5.18.4 under Kubuntu 20.04.

[Akonadi] [Bug 283682] KMail duplicates filtered messages

2019-04-23 Thread Graeme Hewson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=283682

--- Comment #208 from Graeme Hewson  ---
I haven't seen the problem for a while, maybe two years. I use POP3 only, not
IMAP. I run Kubuntu; currently I'm on 19.04.

Sometimes kmail crashes, and I wonder if the way I clean up is related to my
not seeing duplicate filtered messages. When kmail crashes, I stop akonadi
("akonadictl stop") and look in the maildir structure like this:

cd .local/share/.local-mail.directory
ls */new/*S

The S indicates messages which have been Seen, and according to the Maildir
specification the files should not be in a"new" subdirectory; they should have
been moved to a "cur" subdirectory. I therefore move them while akonadi is
stopped. E.g.,

mv -i wastebin/new/*S wastebin/cur

I then run "akonadictl fsck" and restart akonadi ("akonadictl start").

As I say, it's pure speculation that this is why I don't see duplicate messages
now.

I have this problem in 5.1.3, with messages from the mailing list going into
their own folder.

I found that in the Folder Properties dialogue, Mailing List tab, the Post to
List address had been set automatically. When I removed this address, replies
to private mail went to the correct address.

[Akonadi] [Bug 333035] Supposable timing problem causes duplicate mails after filtering

2016-09-26 Thread Graeme Hewson via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=333035

--- Comment #6 from Graeme Hewson <b...@wormhole.me.uk> ---
I'm still seeing something like this in 5.1.3.

Sometimes I'll see a message in my inbox that should have been filtered to
another folder. The unread count for the target folder is 0. If I open the
target folder, the unread count is set to 1, and the same message as in my
inbox is present. I then go back to my inbox and manually filter the message
(Ctrl+J). Now there are two copies of the message in the target folder.

[kmail2] [Bug 319823] Problems with Mailing List preferred handler = browser

2016-09-25 Thread Graeme Hewson via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=319823

--- Comment #3 from Graeme Hewson <b...@wormhole.me.uk> ---
I confirm the problems are still present in Kubuntu 16.04, which uses kmail2
version 5.1.3 (and I'm using kmail2 within kontact version 5.1.3).

I see that a handler _is_ invoked if the URI scheme is mailto. Further, the
kmail handler is invoked only if the email address is at the top of the list of
URIs; if a URL is at the top, nothing happens when Invoke Handler is clicked.
Further still, the "Preferred handler" setting is ignored; if it's set to
Browser, and an email address is at the top of the list of URIs, nevertheless
clicking Invoke Handler brings up a kmail2 composer window.

I would expect that if the preferred handler is set to Browser, then clicking
Invoke Handler opens the browser wherever the URL is in the list (assuming
there is a URL in the list, of course). And similarly for preferred handler =
KMail.

I confirm this. I created an alarm several years ago to pop up at a certain
time on Saturday afternoon, and it's been fine until today. Six days after the
UK changed from GMT to BST (GMT+1), the alarm popped up an hour later than it
should have.

The machine hasn't been rebooted since Sunday. Using Kubuntu 15.10.

See comment 87. This bug report was filed against Kmail version 1, which is
unmaintained, so it's been closed. "UNRESOLVED UNMAINTAINED" would be more
accurate. :-(

I suggest you find a more recent report for the problem (there are several),
e.g., bug 283682. Note this was filed against Akonadi, which is the component
which does the filtering.

This is with version 2.11.2-5ak, which doesn't appear in the bugtracking system
menu.

It's no longer possible to specify the value for reminders, only the units
(minutes, hours/minutes, etc.). There seems to be an entry field underneath the
"in advance" / "afterwards" selection, but it's mostly hidden. See screenshot.

(Akregator version 5.0.2, but this isn't currently selectable in the bug
tracker)

The default shortcut for Next Unread Article is "+,=". Obviously this is meant
to mean "+" or "=", but what it actually means is the user has to press "+" and
then "=" to advance to the next unread article.

Workaround is to define a custom shortcut.
