[kdenlive] [Bug 450027] New: A single instrument for color correction
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=450027 Bug ID: 450027 Summary: A single instrument for color correction Product: kdenlive Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Microsoft Windows Status: REPORTED Severity: wishlist Priority: NOR Component: Effects & Transitions Assignee: vpi...@kde.org Reporter: ilya.korneyc...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY *** In adobe premiere I'm used to Lumetri Color which allows me to do full color correction procedure using a single effect. I do contrast, individual shadows, highlights, blacks and whites correction, white balance. Also it allows me to apply filters, vignetting etc. Then I can copy a single lumetri color effect containing all these changes to another clip and I correct all the clips fast and easy. KDenlive gives a set of small tools like Besier etc and to do the full cycle I need to apply 3-4+ effects on a single clip. After it I cannot select all these effects and copy them to another clip, I need to copypast each effect individually. I'd love KDEnlive to have a single effect to do full cycle color correction similar to Lumetri Color. *** STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Looking for a Lumetri Color alternative OBSERVED RESULT Need to use small tools which slows down editing EXPECTED RESULT SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: Linux/KDE Plasma: (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: KDE Frameworks Version: Qt Version: ADDITIONAL INFORMATION -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

I personally have up to 100 versions and do autosave each minute. This is very helpful if the project file becomes corrupted or I do a mistake during editing (e.g. accidently delete a certain part of the timeline and is aware of it only after some time). Would be nice to have an option to store previous versions within a special folder within my project folder - which is a good thing for pros. *** STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Go to settings 2. Set automatically store previous versions of the project 3. Set timer between creating such versions 4. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=440493 --- Comment #5 from Ilya Bizyaev --- I implicitly phrased my idea in the first comment ("have this checkbox ticked for me"): 1) Plasma knows if Bluetooth is enabled or not 2) Plasma can enable Bluetooth at user's request without touching any config files or packages 3) Plasma can store configuration of whether user wants Bluetooth enabled at session startup (or state at previous session logout) Thus, Plasma already implements all it needs to get this feature to work: upon startup, it can set Bluetooth state as necessary regardless of what's in system config files. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

This would be easy > for you to tell to users for debugging purposes, while not cluttering up the > UI for people who are not experiencing any bugs. What do you think? This is something I considered myself, and yes, that would work well! Maybe it's also possible to e.g. only display this option in the context menu if it was invoked while holding down Shift (Windows has something similar for power actions in their menu). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[plasmashell] [Bug 440497] Add context menu option to launch app in a terminal window
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=440497 Ilya Bizyaev changed: What|Removed |Added Resolution|INTENTIONAL |WAITINGFORINFO --- Comment #10 from Ilya Bizyaev --- (In reply to Nate Graham from comment #9) > we should just fix the relevant bugs. Oof, this statement has multiple bold assumptions, I'm not exactly sure which though. * Not only KDE software has such bugs, and you can't fix all such bugs in the world :) * Not only nerds are capable of reporting bugs. Such bugs will reappear, appear in different shapes and forms and apps and distros, and will all need to be reported first (which takes effort), then fixed (which takes time). For an app like Itinerary which is supposed to help you plan travel time, a user might not have enough time before the travel to wait for a packaging fix from openSUSE, while they are perfectly capable of getting a simple solution immediately if they provide the logs. > Showing it to a nerd might, but a nerd already knows how to launch > an app from the terminal. I don't see the win here, sorry. Ok, let me make this personal then: I like helping people to get KDE software working for them, but I hate that troubleshooting sessions have to be so frustrating when there is no real underlying reason for them to be. Having output collection done by users (without my step-by-step explanations) would save me lots of time and nerves, that's my big win here. Then there's not only me, not only KDE software, not only this use case... I think I've already explained this. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[plasmashell] [Bug 440497] Add context menu option to launch app in a terminal window
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=440497 --- Comment #8 from Ilya Bizyaev --- Well, in the first case Dolphin didn't crash, it just printed an error message to stdout and kept running. In the second case Itinerary remained running in the background, despite failing to display a window. I'm really not sure if it's even possible to implement something like that reliably, and it would of course require much more effort than a context menu item... [dolphin] [Bug 440495] Dolphin opens Trash after directory deletion
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=440495 --- Comment #2 from Ilya Bizyaev --- Indeed, seems to require more conditions: * The terminal pane has to be open * It has to have a large log (which happens naturally when you browse for a while with the terminal pane open) So, updated steps: 1. Close Dolphin with the visible terminal pane 2. Reopen Dolphin, the terminal pane will be displayed with your favorite shell (zsh here) but without the plugins (another Dolphin bug) 3. `cat` a long text file to fill the log 4. Create a new folder in your home directory 5. [plasmashell] [Bug 440497] Add context menu option to launch app in a terminal window
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=440497 --- Comment #4 from Ilya Bizyaev --- (In reply to Nate Graham from comment #3) > What is a use case for a non-nerd who needs to execute terminal commands? > Even if they succeed in running the app in a terminal, the output will be > useless to them, and they will need to involve a nerd anyway. If a nerd is > involved, then we don't need this feature. Right? Both the user and the nerd have limited amount of time and patience, especially if the nerd has to spend time explaining how to start an app from the terminal to every new user whose apps don't launch. Software failures are annoying as is, so if troubleshooting them requires dozens more of annoying steps, a user just gives up and goes back to whatever works for them. Here is an alternative approach to the same problem from the developer of linuxdeployqt: https://github.com/probonopd/appwrapper It has an added advantage of not requiring any special actions from the user, but is not generally reliable: * it only looks for specific errors in English; * does not catch errors that do not lead to app termination. The proposed approach is on-demand, but very versatile. Today I found myself missing this feature again, as the newly installed KDE Itinerary wouldn't launch. I'm obviously a nerd in this story, but even with my fancy shell with autocompletion and syntax highlighting it took me multiple attempts to guess what the binary name for KDE Itinerary is. It turned out that openSUSE's packaging data was missing 3 packages with QML dependencies for Itinerary to work, so I had to repeat the process 3 times. What's more, without those dependencies the app does not terminate, but keeps running in the background. Now, that was my machine, but if I had to help someone get KDE Itinerary running through a Telegram chat I would first need to explain: * How to launch a terminal (search "Konsole" in the application menu, as Ctrl-Alt-T doesn't work for many people) * How to use the terminal window to execute commands * How to interpret the output for incorrect binary names, or how to use the menu editor to find what the correct one is * How to understand if the process is still running or not * How to re-run the previous command with arrow keys * How to kill the broken process It could have easily turned out that they have multiple versions of the app in their system, e.g. from distro's repositories and Flatpak, and we would be troubleshooting the wrong version, just to then find out the menu shortcut still doesn't work. That would take us a while, presuming they would still be willing to use Itinerary/openSUSE afterwards. With this feature, I would tell them to: * Right-click the icon and choose "Open in Terminal" (context menus are an essential skill) * Make a screenshot (basic skill) * Close the window (essential skill) * Repeat Note that power users would also appreciate this, because: * Portable apps downloaded from the web (messengers/proprietary tools/etc.) often miss system libraries, even if they're AppImages * Python-based apps break silently when there are module dependency problems in the system * Wine games crash silently after Wine updates / new libraries in the prefix Searching for and copying long Exec lines or cleaning up ~/.local/share mess are just non-obvious extra steps which could be easily avoided. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

A recent example from the Russian chat is how a user was able to troubleshoot "Open in terminal" silently not working in Dolphin due to an incorrect application preference. It is currently possible to right-click an app, choose "Edit", then "Application", then "Advanced", then tick "Launch in terminal", then click 2 "OK"s. Not only is that hard to learn and navigate for novice users, but also has a permanent effect in the form of a copied `.desktop` file in `~/.local/share/applications/` which will stay there forever. What would really help is a context menu option that would launch the app in a terminal window once, without any long-term effects. The concept is not entirely new, a similar action exists in KRunner's shell runner, but that requires knowing the executable name. [plasmashell] [Bug 440496] New: "Show in all activities" doesn't to that
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=440496 Bug ID: 440496 Summary: "Show in all activities" doesn't to that Product: plasmashell Version: 5.22.4 Platform: openSUSE RPMs OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Task Manager and Icons-Only Task Manager Assignee: h...@kde.org Reporter: bizy...@zoho.com CC: plasma-b...@kde.org Target Milestone: 1.0 SUMMARY A recent bug affects how task manager's "Show in all activities" works. Instead of actually displaying the window in all activities, it only displays the task manager item. Clicking this item in a different activity switches the user to the activity where the window was originally located. To achieve the normal behavior, a user needs to manually tick all activities instead. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open an app, e.g. KInfoCenter 2. Use task manager's context menu on the task item to "Show in all activities" OBSERVED RESULT Only the task manager item is shown in all activities, and clicking it returns you back to the original activity. EXPECTED RESULT Same behavior as in previous Plasma version or when selecting all activities by hand: the window is visible in all activities without switching. [Qt/KDE Flatpak Runtime] [Bug 436864] Grayscale antialiasing in apps using KDE Platform
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=436864 Ilya Fedin changed: What|Removed |Added CC||fedin-ilja2...@ya.ru --- Comment #4 from Ilya Fedin --- The issue you referring to is about metric-compatible fonts in runtime, not about font rendering settings passthrough. I don't think they can solve that, though, since fontconfig file format is incompatible between versions and host configs will refer to host directories. Looks like gtk uses XSETTINGS on X11 and portals on Wayland to get rendering settings via sandbox. I believe Qt QPA should be reorganized to get font rendering settings from platformtheme layer. That way, it will be able to get font rendering settings from gtk on gtk based DEs and from Plasma configs (via portals if running inside flatpak) on Plasma. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
