[Spectacle] [Bug 430260] New: Annotating images crops and pixelates them

2020-12-11 Thread Ilya Bizyaev
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=430260

Bug ID: 430260
Summary: Annotating images crops and pixelates them
   Product: Spectacle
   Version: 20.12.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: m...@baloneygeek.com
  Reporter: bizy...@zoho.com
CC: k...@david-redondo.de
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When I try to annotate a screenshot with Spectacle's new editor, it gets
cropped on the bottom-right.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Press PrtSc
2. Create any screenshot
3. Click "Annotate"
4. Regardless of making edits, click "Annotation done"
5. The resulting screenshot (shown/copied/saved) is always cropped (losing
parts on the right and bottom) and looks low-res.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: openSUSE Leap 15.2
KDE Plasma Version: 5.20.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.76.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2
Graphics Processor: Mesa DRI Intel® UHD Graphics

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
If I make a screenshot of my full screen, the resulting image is of correct
resolution, which makes me think the problem is that the annotated image is
being upscaled for some reason, and that's why it becomes pixelated and extends
the canvas.

I suspect there's some KWin bug still involved here since the issue occurs when

afterward. But I don't know enough of what KWin scripting API allows to do to
be sure.

> Do you see some other unusual things, e.g. high CPU usage, etc?
No, as I mentioned, all observable resources are fine...

But I managed to find the reason: the issue was somehow caused by a popular
KWin script called Parachute (https://github.com/tcorreabr/Parachute).
Disabling it fixes the problem for me, and re-enabling returns it. I don't know
though if it's a bug in the script or in KWin itself.

Replacing KWin seems to also help now; didn't help earlier, maybe is somehow
related to x11 downgrade.

Anyway, I have found one way to consistently reproduce this on my machine:
restore and then maximize Firefox with CSD enabled by dragging its headerbar to
the top edge.

[kwin] [Bug 422625] New: KWin randomly becomes terribly slow

2020-06-08 Thread Ilya Bizyaev
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=422625

Bug ID: 422625
Summary: KWin randomly becomes terribly slow
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.18.90
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: bizy...@zoho.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
After random periods of time after session start, KWin decides it's a photo
frame and starts producing a slideshow :)

It's not a hardware issue (unchanged), not a kernel bug (unchanged), not a Mesa
or X server bug (updates reverted), not a lack of resources (CPU, GPU and RAM
stats are all fine). Re-login into the session helps but is very annoying.
Replacing KWin doesn't help, yet killing and starting it again seems to.
Started after an upgrade from 5.18.x to 5.18.90.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. I wish I had them, but seems to happen fairly randomly. I had a feeling it
sometimes correlates with window resizing or launching chromium-based software,
but I'm unsure. Just using the computer for 5-60 minutes is more reliable.

OBSERVED RESULT
The whole session feels like VNCing over a slow connection

EXPECTED RESULT
Usable session at all times :)

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: openSUSE Leap 15.1
KDE Plasma Version: 5.18.90
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.70.0
Qt Version: 5.15.0
Kernel Version: 5.7.0-3.gad96a07-default
OS Type: 64 bits
Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i5-10210U CPU @ 1.60GHz
Memory: 15,3 Gb RAM
Graphics Processor: Mesa DRI Intel® HD Graphics

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
When the problem occurs, there appears to be a consistent slow paint interval.
It seems to not affect window decorations and effects sometimes, and it doesn't
affect the mouse cursor, but it always affects window contents. If all windows
are closed, Plasma behaves smoothly, too.

> Why it's complicated to click on a button ?
Because you need to enable this button first; and it's hidden under 5 levels of
nesting, which is not feasible to find for an average user.

> For you each feature must be activated by default ?!
No, only those that make sense to enable by default. Clickable notifications
are something that users of most mail clients out there are used to, so coming
to KMail that requires them to open the app by hand every time they see a new
message coming, along with a ton of other inconveniences all over the welcome
experience, they think KMail is fundamentally flawed.

If I was paid for explaining how to enable at least the buttons and why we
can't have clickable notifications, I'd be rich by now :)

Since this is linked from a Firefox theming extension, I'll add: for the
Firefox part, this bug is not a duplicate. Firefox headerbars remain unfixed in
Breeze. I remember Carson said Firefox's GTK color usage was a mess, but the
fact is that Firefox CSD still can not be used in default Plasma configuration.

They are using a random different font.

(In reply to Mikhail Zolotukhin from comment #2)
> > gtk-font-name="Some Font Обычный 13"
> In the newest kde-gtk-config from 5.18 branch there should be comma after
> "Some font". If you add comma after "Some Font", would the font in GTK apps

No, and I thought that I am doing something wrong because editing both
~/.gtkrc-2.0 and ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini did not affect the font that I
saw in `gtk-query-settings | grep font` and apps. But then I tried using GTK
theme previewers in System Settings, and they are able to detect the correct
font... in a weird way.
The font used by the GTK3 previewer depends on whether on not the GTK2
previewer has been used since the last GTK app launch. Plus, all this seems to
affect fonts used in the KCM itself... (I attach the recording)

All this is pretty weird to me, but I hope this helps.

[systemsettings] [Bug 416993] New: Update to Plasma 5.18 resets GTK font configuration

2020-01-31 Thread Ilya Bizyaev
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=416993

Bug ID: 416993
Summary: Update to Plasma 5.18 resets GTK font configuration
   Product: systemsettings
   Version: 5.17.90
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kcm_fonts
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: bizy...@zoho.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Likely a wrong component, but GTK apps now use a font different from what was
configured in System Settings before the upgrade.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Configure a custom font for GTK apps
2. Upgrade to 5.17.90
3. Open an app that respects GTK configuration (Firefox, Inkscape)

OBSERVED RESULT
A different font is used

EXPECTED RESULT
Users' font configurations are preserved

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: openSUSE Leap 15.1
KDE Plasma Version: 5.17.90
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.66.0
Qt Version: 5.14.1
Kernel Version: 5.5.0-1.g3f183bf-default
OS Type: 64-bit

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
In ~/.gtkrc-2.0 and ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini, I see a suspicious line:
gtk-font-name="Some Font Обычный 13"
where "Обычный" is "Regular" in Russian. There is likely some undesired i18n
going on, though changing the font in those config files seems to have no
effect. Still, gtk-query-settings reports gtk-font-name: "Some Font
\320\236\320\261\321\213\321\207\320\275\321\213\320\271 13", so that's the
most likely reason IMO.

[plasmashell] [Bug 407701] Most apps end up in "System Services" category

2019-05-28 Thread Ilya Bizyaev
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=407701

I use Firefox from openSUSE's mozilla repository:
https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/mozilla

My plasmanotifyrc has these contents:
```
[Applications][telegramdesktop]
Seen=true
[DoNotDisturb]
Until=2019,5,21,23,28,0
```

I indeed don't seem to have other non-KDE apps that are configured to send
notifications, so if notifyrc files are fixed then it's ok.

SUMMARY
This line:
https://cgit.kde.org/extra-cmake-modules.git/tree/toolchain/ECMAndroidDeployQt.cmake#n9
assumes that Qt's QML modules are located in ${prefix}/lib/qml, but that's not
the case with Qt from qt.io where they are found in the qml subfolder.

As a workaround, one can create a link from lib/qml to qml.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use Qt for Android from qt.io to build an Android app that uses CMake

OBSERVED RESULT
QML module search error

EXPECTED RESULT
Everything works fine

DrKonqi crashes for me when debug symbol installation is successfully finished.
It's quite funny when a crash info collection tool crashes and you collect
crash info for it with it :) (but could be frustrating for someone).

Since 5.12, I often get no sound when launching a program as if it's muted, but
it's not. In fact, a sound channel for the program is set to 0 volume, and I
have to manually change the volume back through the audio plasmoid.

I never change the volume per channel manually.

Happens with Firefox, Google Play Music (Electron wrapper), Cuphead.

Incorrect window refresh on maximize

The issue occurs when maximizing some programs, e.g. Firefox and a minimal Qt
Quick test program (attached), on both X and Wayland. Disabling compositing has
no effect.

I think something's wrong about events that programs receive from KWin on
maximization, as nothing like that happens on resize.

The bug is common, easy to notice and was present at least as of 5.8.

[plasmashell] [Bug 395215] New: Font settings affect scaling in an unexpected way

2018-06-10 Thread Ilya Bizyaev
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=395215

Bug ID: 395215
Summary: Font settings affect scaling in an unexpected way
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.12.5
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Reporter: bizy...@zoho.com
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: 1.0

Using a different font family than Noto Sans or different sizes results in
unexpected scaling changes that affect Kickoff, notifications and other parts
of the UI.

Apart from that, the issue prevents from using any other DPI setting than X11's
default 96.

I attach a number of screenshots which show how the scaling may change
depending on user's settings.

Icon not displayed in Favorites

For some reason, after an upgrade from 5.8.x to 5.12.5 JetBrains IDE icons
(IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm etc.) are no longer displayed in Kickoff's favorites
and categories. However, they are displayed when I search in Kickoff, which
makes me think it's a bug. There were no changes made to the JetBrains product
installation. Same problem in Application Dashboard.

No, because KDE no longer provides the Falkon snap...

This is also sometimes reproduced randomly with a usual swipe.

New navigation icons

I recently upgraded to Gwenview 17.12.3, and now I have what I first thought is
a bug, bold icons on navigation (previous - next) buttons.

I feel like these icons look out of place in the otherwise light interface, and
I keep staring at them while looking through images :)

It could well be just my conservatism, but I would personally be in favor of
reverting to the old icon appearance.

Around 2 months ago the Falkon package got broken, and it fails to start since
then:

/snap/falkon/36/kf5-launch: line 123: /snap/falkon/36/qwe-launch: Permission
denied
/snap/falkon/36/kf5-launch: line 123: exec: /snap/falkon/36/qwe-launch: cannot
execute: Permission denied

I think the problem is that the file is missing the "executable" flag.
