[konsole] [Bug 459400] Ability to make Konsole color scheme follow system color scheme

2024-06-24 Thread Jeffrey Bouter
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=459400

@nate That's a good suggestion, but would probably require big changes in the
.colorscheme file layout before it could support light/dark modes, right? Would
it not be an option instead to allow users to configure their own preferred
light and dark themes, right in the konsole settings? I think that's what
iTerm2 on Mac OS does, and it adds the option for users to pick which light and
dark colour schemes they prefer.

Slightly off-topic, but the ability to change Konsole colour themes inside Koi
has been discussed too (https://github.com/baduhai/Koi/issues/4), but sadly has
been closed. Koi, for those who don't know allows setting a schedule (based on
time or location) on which to change KDE/Plasma themes from light to dark mode
and vice versa. Currently, Konsole is the only native KDE application that
won't change colourschemes along with the rest of the desktop.

SUMMARY

On Plasma 6, font rendering is broken when reading emails using kmail on a
scaled (hidpi) display. Please see attached screenshot for a beautiful preview.

All other components of kmail scale and render fine.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use wayland (not tested on X11)
2. Configure display scaling (only tested on 125% and 150%)
3. Open an email in kmail. Both HTML and text format are affected

OBSERVED RESULT

Blurred, unhinted fonts

EXPECTED RESULT

Clean, well rendered and hinted fonts.

SUMMARY

When sending emails originating from an EWS account, emails are not properly
encrypted using GPG. Encryption happens, but the other end is not able to
decrypt the messages. The other way around, however, works fine.

I've connected two email accounts to my kmail. One is personal and using IMAP,
the other is my work account using EWS.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add an EWS account to kmail
2. Set up a GPG key for said account (if not present already)
3. Send an encrypted email to a different account

OBSERVED RESULT

Receiving side is unable to decrypt the email

EXPECTED RESULT

Receiving side is able to decrypt the email

The issue has been resolved. During the upgrade, new config files aren't
installed. Therefore, the locking theme is broken because it still uses the
config file for Ubuntu 20.04 instead of 22.04.

I was using --force-confdef in combination with --force-confold, changing the
latter to --force-confnew seems to resolve the issue.

SUMMARY

For one of my clients, I manage Linux VDIs on the side. These VDIs are based on
Ubuntu 20.04, and users are free to choose between GNOME (default), MATE and
KDE desktops. Most of the users have opted for the Kubuntu desktop. In a
testing environment, I am testing an upgrade to Ubuntu 22.04. For GNOME this
goes fine, however for KDE there's an issue with kscreenlocker. It seems as
though once the screen has locked, input (both keyboard and mouse) does not
trigger the unlock/password box in order to unlock the screen.

This is observed both through the VMware horizon client that users need to use
to log in, but also when viewing the VDI directly in VMware ESX

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install Kubuntu 22.04.1 LTS on VMware ESX
2. Use VMware Horizon View to log into the Kubuntu VDI
3. Once passed GDM (sadly, this is required by VMware Horizon), use the KDE
Desktop normally
4. Lock screen, and observe that an unlock window is not displayed

OBSERVED RESULT

The lock screen wallpaper is displayed, but both keyboard or mouse input do not
trigger the password/unlock dialog to unlock the screen

EXPECTED RESULT

Keyboard and mouse input trigger the password/unlock dialog

Hi Nate! Thanks for getting back to me. I have since stopped using 2FA on my
machines. Since no one else has chimed in to talk about this issue, I guess
this can be closed. I think it's mostly related to the screen locker displaying
messages coming from PAM.

[systemsettings] [Bug 438266] Mouse settings not working on Wayland

2021-06-18 Thread Jeffrey Bouter
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=438266

Zamundaaa is absolutely right. The mouse settings can be adjusted by selecting
the proper device. However, considering both Nate and I overlooked this option,
perhaps this needs to be made a tad clearer in the settings.

[kwin] [Bug 438294] New: [Wayland] Scroll speed varies within applications

2021-06-08 Thread Jeffrey Bouter
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=438294

Bug ID: 438294
Summary: [Wayland] Scroll speed varies within applications
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.22.0
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: libinput
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: k...@kn0x.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

The scrolling speed within applications (using a touchpad) varies hugely.
System settings, for example, has a very slow scroll speed. Whereas Firefox has
a very fast scroll speed.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use a wayland session
2. Use a touchpad for scrolling
3. Try scrolling in different applications and observe the difference

OBSERVED RESULT

Scroll speed/sensitivity varies within applications

EXPECTED RESULT

Scroll speed to be the same in all applications

[plasmashell] [Bug 438293] New: [Wayland] Panels disappear when disconnecting external monitor

2021-06-08 Thread Jeffrey Bouter
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=438293

Bug ID: 438293
Summary: [Wayland] Panels disappear when disconnecting external
monitor
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.22.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Reporter: k...@kn0x.org
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY

When using Wayland, there's no option to set a "primary display" on plasma
5.22.0 (I'm not sure if there was on previous releases). So when you move your
panels to an external monitor, and then later on disconnect your laptop, your
panels disappear.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use wayland session
2. Move panels to external display
3. Disconnect display (to resume working on laptop)

OBSERVED RESULT

Panels disappear

EXPECTED RESULT

Panels to be moved (back) to laptop display

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: KDE Neon
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.82.0
Qt Version: 5.15.3

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I suspect this is caused by lacking the option of having a "primary display"
under wayland in display settings, but I'm not entirely sure.

I just updated to plasma 5.22 and opted to start using Wayland. Natural
Scrolling works fine on touchpads, but Invert Scroll Direction doesn't work for
mice (I've tested on two different devices). The only difference for me,
compared to the initial bug report, is that it actually never works. Not when
selecting the option, and not on reboot.

Created attachment 135300
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=135300=edit
crash report (without debug symbols) of the calamares crash

SUMMARY

When using calamares to install KDE Neon, using custom partitioning crashes the
installer. I've attempted to create all partitions beforehand, and simply use
them in the installer as well - but this yields no different result.

The crash report that opens when calamares crashes, requires you to install
debug symbols. This, however, never completes. When attempted to install a
second time, it crashes as well.

Once Calamares has crashed once, it remains active in the background and
requires a kill -9 in the terminal to be able to open the installer again.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Boot Neon live installation medium
2. Open Calamares, and navigate through until you reach the partitioning menu
3. Use "Manual Partitioning"
4. Select "New Partition Table" and use GPT
5. For the sake of this bug report, let's leave out making the system actually
bootable;
6. Create a new partition, "lvm2 pv" and select "encrypt". Enter a passphrase
7. Create a "New Volume group"
8. Select "New Partition" and give your Volume Group a name.
9. Observe the crash

On the new crash report window that opens, it is asked one install the debug
symbols. However, this never succeeds and extra attempts make the application
crash. I do believe this is another bug report on its own.

OBSERVED RESULT

The installer crashes. A background calamares process remains active, and
requires a hard kill in order to be able to start the installer again.

EXPECTED RESULT

A new volume group is created, after which logical volumes can be added.

The same seems to happen (on a 'regular' keyboard) when trying to set a
shortcut that involves alt and shift.

E.g., I've set alt+shift+4 as my "Capture Entire Desktop", as this is the
default on the Apple keyboard layout (and my mechanical keyboard mimics this
keyboard shortcut on the screenshot button). It will show as Alt-Shift-$ in the
settings, not react to the key being pressed at all.

I had this same issue on KDE Neon that's based on 18.04, but I cannot reproduce
this anymore on the 20.04 (focal) based KDE Neon. I reckon fontconfig (as
mentioned by Nate Graham earlier) has changed and therefore resolved this.

[krunner] [Bug 359627] choose order in which krunner displays results of different kinds

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=359627

This "bug" (or rather, feature request) is still present in today's plasma. I
too would like to be able to select the order in which krunner finds results.
For example, if I type 'shutdown' I want the desktop session to be the first
result. Not open 'shutdown.svg' or have krunner execute the 'shutdown'
cli-command (which will result in a "computer will shut down in 60 seconds"
pop-up).

I am not using fractional scaling. It occurs on a non-scaled external display
(scaling set to 1). It does not occur on my XPS15's internal HiDPI (scaling x2)

It only occurs when using the Breeze Dark plasma theme.

Bug ID: 417425

notifications)
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.18.0
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED

krunner too big

SUMMARY

After upgrading my KDE Neon install on 2020-02-10, some things have been
seeming off regarding the plasma desktop. Speficially:

* Krunner seems "too big"
* Sliders in Latte dock configuration are too big
* Panel edit buttons are too big
* Menu items seem too big (especially the bright blue line around the "search"
box)

At this point, I am not sure if this happens because of scaling. The odd thing,
however, is, that it does not occur on my laptop's scaled screen. Only when I
am using external unscaled screens (with the laptop screen turned off).

It seemingly affects plasma 5.17.5 and plasma 5.18

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use an unscaled display (with a scaled display turned off?)
2. Configure to use the Breeze Dark plasma style
3. Start krunner

OBSERVED RESULT

Items (especially buttons) seem too big

EXPECTED RESULT

Items (especially buttons) are of normal size

Hey Nate,

Thanks for getting back to me :-) Configuring the wallpaper through right
clicking on the desktop works just fine, which is why I was surprised the lock
screen wasn't working properly.

Indeed, when I configure the wallpaper to use Wallpaper of the Day (I've only
tested this with unsplash), the lock screen remains black.

In current and above screenshot, you can see I'm using a black background. I've
had to take a photograph, as pressing the screenshot buttons actually removes
the visual artifact from konsole.

This is on konsole 19.04.1 (KDE Neon 18.04)
