[frameworks-kio] [Bug 446557] New: File Properties symlink entry not respected
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=446557 Bug ID: 446557 Summary: File Properties symlink entry not respected Product: frameworks-kio Version: 5.88.0 Platform: Neon Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Properties dialog Assignee: kio-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: verme...@gmail.com CC: kdelibs-b...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY When entering a new relative destination for a symlink in the file properties window, it will either not set the symlink or change it to an absolute path. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Right-click a symlink -> Properties 2. In "Points to" change it from an absolute path to a relative path (in this use-case the destination is the same, the path needed is just relative) 3. Hit OK OBSERVED RESULT Dialog closes with path unchanged EXPECTED RESULT Dialog should close with the path changed to exactly what is in the "Points to" field. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: - macOS: - Linux/KDE Plasma: KDE Neon 5.23 KDE Plasma Version: 5.23.3 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.88.0 Qt Version: 5.15.3 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The properties dialog closes without any acknowledgement that the exact user input was not respected. If there are any validity checks being performed, or it's checking to see if the path is the "same" in some way, it should not modify user input without warning. In the event that the path is malformed at most a warning dialog should spawn stating that an invalid link was entered (with a CONTINUE/CANCEL option) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 397632] Analogue clock hands rendered with inconsistent sizes
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=397632 --- Comment #2 from Ken Vermette --- (In reply to Nate Graham from comment #1) > Whoa, I don't think that's what the clock is supposed to look like. Why is > it a donut? Is this some artifact of your theme? That's how it's meant to look. In the sample attachment the widget on the desktop is rendered correctly, but the image in the Date & Time module is broken with the radically undersized hands. Fixing the hands would resolve the bug; but outside of that the extra points added are simply to allow for more creative and predictable analog clock design. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[plasmashell] [Bug 397632] New: Analogue clock hands rendered with inconsistent sizes
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=397632 Bug ID: 397632 Summary: Analogue clock hands rendered with inconsistent sizes Product: plasmashell Version: 5.13.3 Platform: Neon Packages OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Analogue Clock Assignee: bhus...@gmail.com Reporter: verme...@gmail.com CC: plasma-b...@kde.org Target Milestone: 1.0 Created attachment 114504 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=114504=edit Clock on the desktop vs clock in Date & Time. (Using "Aether Dark" theme in these shots) The Analogue clock hands are rendered at inconsistent sizes. They vary slightly with size (blocking "pixel perfect" results") and desktop scaling. The most apparent is when viewing the date-and-time settings. Aside from a general fix, how hand scaling works is unclear so I'd also like to request a new "hint-alternate-hand-placement" hint be added for future development. This hint would have the following behavioral changes from the current system: - The hands will not be magically scaled, the scale of the hands will match the scale of the clock. - The hands will rotate according to the center-point of the bounding box, not the position of the object. - The hands may be an arbitrary size. The hand could, possibly, be larger than the clock face. In some situations it also means parts of the hand might even be clipped. It is up to the theme author to avoid this. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

This area only applies to windows with XCB-based applications running in a Wayland session, not native Wayland applications. In practice it's a bit taller than the blue strip, but the blue strip is a good marker for where the issues are. It may take a few attempts to replicate the issues; - Clicking this area will sometimes pass the cursor through to the contents below. If the contents are another window, it will bring that window into the forefront. - On trackpads clicking this area will sometimes instead cause the cursor to switch into resizing mode. [www.kde.org] [Bug 376291] New kde.org adds tracking by 3rd-party, googleapis.com
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=376291 Ken Vermette <verme...@gmail.com> changed: What|Removed |Added CC||verme...@gmail.com --- Comment #1 from Ken Vermette <verme...@gmail.com> --- Google doesn't use Google fonts as a tracking mechanism, at least, not in the way that any website doesn't do by nature with basic traffic logging. See: https://developers.google.com/fonts/faq#what_does_using_the_google_fonts_api_mean_for_the_privacy_of_my_users Google doesn't have cookies for web fonts, uses heavy caching (meaning only the first hit a day for a font - from anywhere - may be logged), and other things. The only metrics Google states they collect from web fonts is "which fonts are popular", and "which websites use fonts", but neither of them are user-specific. Additionally, browsers properly implementing https should not provide referral information *at all* to included resources - not even the domain referring. Noto is made by Google, and Google updates the web fonts regularly. I don't know how often the font is adjusted or added to, but it was a consideration. Serving the font ourselves will cost us a little extra load without the caching (nothing anyone will ever notice, but still - it can add up if we aren't careful), and the font may periodically fall out-of-date. All that being said, while I personally don't consider the use of Google Fonts as a breach of privacy or introduction of tracking, I understand the concern. KDE also prides itself on privacy, and even the *opportunity* to gleam some small amount of information from our service could be considered an issue. Even the perception of tracking may be enough in some cases. If someone really paranoid disables third-party resources to ensure no tracking can happen, the downsides will be marginal; either an existing noto on their machine will be used, or it will fall back to a similar looking sans font. I'm neutral on moving the font resources to our server, but knowing that fonts are not a viable form of tracking to Google nor one that they claim to try using, I'd like to ask if this is still considered an issue; if it is, I'll go ahead and do the switch. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[Plasma Workspace Wallpapers] [Bug 361778] 4k default wallpaper
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=361778 --- Comment #3 from Ken Vermette <verme...@gmail.com> --- (In reply to Aleix Pol from comment #2) > Couldn't we distribute the wallpaper in SVG? If we can do it, I'm all in for using SVG straight from the tap; it was something I brought up before during the Plasma Sprint, but I didn't get an enthused reaction. Performance concerns were cited. Maybe we could have the system check for a named scalable file if the screen is larger than the largest provided PNG wallpaper. If you're using a lower end computer then the PNG graphics might be faster, but if you're running the kind of screen with 4K resolutions it's less of a concern - you probably have the horsepower to render/cache the image anyway. If we do this, we can probably drop the higher resolution wallpapers as well and save some space. My one question would be how this might affect the splash or locks screens; could they also use SVG images? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[Plasma Workspace Wallpapers] [Bug 361778] 4k default wallpaper
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=361778 --- Comment #1 from Ken Vermette <verme...@gmail.com> --- For reference we offer resolutions up to 3200x2000 right now. 4K has a resolution of 3840x2160 being the consumer standard. There are some people out there starting to float 8K (7680x4320 !!!) as a thing and while it sounds ludicrous now, there was a time when 4K was crazy. But we also have to remember some people have multiple monitors and may want to span their wallpapers across multiple 4K monitors anyway. Really, I'd like a solution where we can reasonably bundle 8K wallpapers as well to be future-proofed. The main problem I think we're facing (and the push-back we'll see) is filesize. Right now we're using PNG format images, and depending on complexity the wallpapers have run filesizes between 10-30MB. A 4K wallpaper runs about ~3MB on its own (for skylight), a pretty big hit... But encoded in JPG at 98% quality we halve it to 1.4MB, where I think 8K would become feasible too. Even then, we can encode these ultra-high-def images at slightly lower qualities as pixel-level compression artifacts becomes less visible on these screens. There were issues with JPG and configuration hardcoding stuff, and because of how we release software, we may need to wait a release or two for 4K/8K wallpapers if we wait for JPG. I'll light some fires under people or try to get some patches in to begin correcting this. Right now the way we distribute wallpapers will cause size complaints if we include them as we do now; we need to fix that first, I think. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[plasmashell] [Bug 356280] Option to disable panel transparency
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=356280 Ken Vermette <verme...@gmail.com> changed: What|Removed |Added CC||verme...@gmail.com --- Comment #2 from Ken Vermette <verme...@gmail.com> --- Additionally, disabling compositing will remove several distractions, including animations, as well as removing transparency. One thing we could do is add an intensity option slider to the Kwin "Background Contrast" effect; with the extreme intensity effectively drowning out the background completely, only picking up a small amount of colour. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
