Could you please install debug package for libKF5Plasma and then
post an updated backtrace? Would help with pinpointing this bug.
If you get the updated backtrace, it's enough if you copy-paste just
the "Thread 1" or whichever has the "[KCrash Handler]" in it.

Thanks

I'm sorry to say that this is somewhat known Qt bug [1][2]
in combination with nvidia. There isn't much we can do about
it except recommending adding

QML_USE_GLYPHCACHE_WORKAROUND=1

into your /etc/profile.d/ OR /etc/environment and rebooting.

Additionally changing your fonts might help too, although
I realize that this is less than ideal suggestion.

Also might help if you add a comment to the Qt reports.

I made a patch yesterday [1] fixing this problem. I've added

root cause of the bug (described in previous comment) and
it will likely get fixed elsewhere, but for the time being the
exact cause of the WindowDeactivate/WindowActivate events
is still unknown.

Git commit 5c5bbc3f8c4297cfd6862072aa33a45d947fa41b by Martin Klapetek.
Committed on 09/12/2015 at 19:07.
Pushed by mklapetek into branch 'Plasma/5.5'.

[notifications] Move reading globalConfig() from ctor to init()

The globalConfig() in ctor returns a non-(yet-)existing KConfigGroup
which makes it always return the default value. So the config access
must be delayed for init().

Custom notification position is now correctly remembered.

2015-12-08 Thread Martin Klapetek via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=356220

--- Comment #7 from Martin Klapetek  ---
Ok I understand now what's going on. It's...unexpected.

So. If you use "save layout per tab", the layout is set everytime
you switch to the window (make it an active window). Now when
you press the key combo to change layout, the OSD popups up
and that takes the focus away from ktp-text-ui, even if for a split
of a second. After that, the text-ui is switched back to, ie. made
an active window. At this point, text-ui is setting the "old" layout
back (because the updated layout didn't make it to it yet).

And that makes it look like it's blocking the change.

...you're welcome.

> ① The patch does not solve the problem, it is a workaround, because a
> correctly set TZ-Variable gets ignored if it uses the “:”-syntax.

No.

>QByteArray ianaId = qgetenv("TZ");
>if (!ianaId.isEmpty() && ianaId.at(0) == ':')
>ianaId = ianaId.mid(1);

If you set TZ=":Europe/Berlin", it will correctly return "Europe/Berlin".
The patch will ignore TZ=":/etc/localtime" because the timezone name
will get read from /etc/timezone (which is what should be happening).

It will not work if you put an absolute path into your TZ env var. Which is
not what any guide/manual encourages you to do so, so, honestly, I'd close
such bugreport as invalid. There are 4 other ways to read a system timezone,
just use one of those.

Feel free to submit another patch reading an absolute path correctly however.

> ② digital-clock should fail more gracefully

Yes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=356220

Ok, after inspecting the bustle log and the code, I think I see the problem.

In app/chat-window.cpp, the restoreKeyboardLayout(..) is called on various
occasions, this in turn calls the setLayout on the keyboard switching
interface. I guess it's called with the old layout from somewhere.

I'll investigate more properly later tonight.

Oh and btw, for testing patches, you'd need to recompile only ktp-text-ui,
should be really simple :)

Not manual control, but better sizing of the icons. Basically David in the
review has the same problem as you with the systray icons.

Georgy - yes, this patch is spot on. Good work! Do you have commit access?
Otherwise I'll push it for you (I just need your full name for the commit, you
can send that in private).

Can you please check if you have telepathy-accounts-signon pacakge installed?
Also btw it looks like you're actually using 15.08 version, not 0.9.

Thanks for the report

This is done by design as the applet that you open from the panel has very
limited space.

Can you state which usecases in particular it breaks for you?

Yes. In our case, the common sense says trim unnecessary whitespace
when your screen real estate is limited.

I'm wondering - what sends such a long notifications? Can you give me
any particular example?

  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED

When not using compositting, the Plasma stuff blends to windows and stuff
because it does not seem to have any edges, making things very hard to
recognize.

See screenshot.
