[plasmashell] [Bug 369566] Absurdly high memory usage from kwin_x11, plasmashell, krunner, and kded5

2016-10-03 Thread Mathieu Jobin via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=369566

I agree with David, this is not a valid measure of process memory usage.

not only its irrelevent to consider the total size to swap a process we use
constantly

but also, I see processes showing up at the top of that list that i know for
sure has no impact on my machine whether I bring them up, or close them
like kate and kmail which shows 4th and 1st respectively. kwin is 2nd and
plasmashell 3rd.

I can kill plasmashell it will make no performance impact on my system, I can
relauch plasmashell it will have again no impact on my system.

sorting by rss is much more accurate in my opinion

here is my top 15

[mathieu@hz550 ~]$ ps -eo rss,command | sort -nr | awk {'print $2'} | head -n
15
kwin_x11
/opt/google/chrome/chrome
/usr/bin/qupzilla
/usr/bin/kmail
/opt/google/chrome/chrome
/opt/google/chrome/chrome
/opt/google/chrome/chrome
/usr/bin/plasmashell
/opt/google/chrome/chrome
/usr/lib/jvm/default-runtime/bin/java
/opt/google/chrome/chrome
/usr/lib/xorg-server/Xorg
/opt/google/chrome/chrome
/opt/google/chrome/chrome
/usr/lib/qt/libexec/QtWebEngineProcess
[mathieu@hz550 ~]$

even if kwin shows first, i don't care as i need it 100% if the time and its a
single process.

32 chrome process is much more of a problem in my life

 mathieu@hz550 ~]$ ps -eo rss,command | sort -nr | awk {'print $2'} | grep

hmm, that strange, I have 3.8GB of ram on my ultrabook

kwin_x11 takes 188MB
plasma 92MB
krunner 22MB
kded5 takes 2360KB

and i'll throw Xorg in there as well, as it is quite critical
44MB

Chrome and Firefox are the two biggest memory consumer...

I have mysqld, postgresql, elasticsearch and several other backend services...
only firefox and chrome together brings my tiny system to a crawl

for that reason, I use qupzilla (169MB) 7 tabs open at the moment

[knavalbattle] [Bug 369531] New: can't play two network games in a row

2016-09-29 Thread Mathieu Jobin via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=369531

Bug ID: 369531
Summary: can't play two network games in a row
   Product: knavalbattle
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: roney...@gmail.com
  Reporter: opensou...@somekool.net
CC: kde-games-b...@kde.org

after the game is over, there isn't an easy way to start a new game

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. get two computers on the same network with knavalbattle
2. create a network game on the first
3. figure out your IP, because it's not automatic
4. connect to the game with the other computer
5. play the game
6. can't start a new game

Actual Results:
the only two buttons that make sense to start a new game are "new" and
"restart"

new: it starts from scratch, losing the network connection
restart: kinda look like it does what it should, but scores don't get reset. we
can place our boats, but we can't play again
host game: and connect to game: should be grayed out as we are already
connected

Expected Results:
endless fun with son

it worked for the first game, so thank you !
still great game we have

[konsole] [Bug 178320] Konsole split view: in both views same content

2016-09-12 Thread Mathieu Jobin via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=178320

I use KDE all day everyday and I love everything about it. this long lived bug
is my only pain point at the moment...

it would be great to just have it fixed in konsole. but it does not look like
its going to happen from the main devs.

the hard part I find when trying to rip this off and keeping vincenzo's split
work, was all apps using the kpart like kate and kdeveloper were crashing on
start up. so that would need fixing.

you can look at my fork on github which I'm sure I linked above.

then xliiv started to port the fork to KDE Framework 5 world, but I'm not sure
its anywhere ready.

one solution that I thought should be much easier, is to just embed the kpart
in an entirely new applications.

There is this super cool app https://github.com/Swordfish90/cool-retro-term
which is actually based on Konsole, with some very impressive effects.

so we could be taking example from him, use his
https://github.com/Swordfish90/qmltermwidget and make a superlight app with
decent split screen based on Konsole.

I think that's pretty much the two ways to go around it.

pick your poison, I'll be happy to help as well, but I can't take this alone.

I'm not a kbounce developer, only a user. I like playing the game. I played it
from at least KDE3, maybe KDE2 I dont remember until recent 5.6/16.04 KF5

I don't see how the game became harder? maybe you're right the walls are
builder slower. maybe this happened when they switch to SVG

making it those speed configurable is not a bad idea. maybe that's what this
issue should be called.

"make wall speed and ball bouncing speed configurable"

[Spectacle] [Bug 357845] New: delay is ignored when selecting region

2016-01-11 Thread Mathieu Jobin via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357845

Bug ID: 357845
Summary: delay is ignored when selecting region
   Product: Spectacle
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: m...@baloneygeek.com
  Reporter: opensou...@somekool.net

This is a regression from ksnapshot. I am not able to do what I am used to with
ksnapshot

when selecting a rectangle region. adding a delay.
when I double click or press enter in the region to take the screenshot.
no delay is observe and the screenshot is taken right away

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open spectacle
2. select rectangle region
3. uncheck "on click"
4. add few seconds to the delay
5. click take new screenshot
6. select region
7. double click or press enter ( as indicated )

Actual Results:
- screenshot is taken, no delay observe
- removing the "on click" option is lacking sense.

Expected Results:
as ksnapshot used to...
after onclick, the delay must be respected so user than do what he is required
to before screenshot is taken

2016-01-11 Thread Mathieu Jobin via KDE Bugzilla

related to but different than https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357845

when taking a rectangle selection, I am having a very hard time seeing my
cursor

I believe this is a regression from ksnapshot

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open spectacle
2. select rectangle region
3. uncheck "on click"
4. add few seconds to the delay
5. click take new screenshot
6. select region

Actual Results:
I am experiencing two usability regression from ksnapshot
- after I click "take a new screenshot" there is a delay before I can take the
selection.
this just feels sluggish, but after the 2nd time, I accept it and it works. but
with ksnapshot it was instant.
- once Its my turn to make the selection... there is now a gray filter on my
screen and my selection shows unfiltered. i understand the point, you want the
user to see what his screenshot will be with actual color instead of greying
out the partial region he wants... but I can't see my mouse cursor on that grey
screen. It hurts my eyes terrible.

Expected Results:
make this an option, or figure it out better this is unusable for me.

I am going to figure out how to reinstall ksnapshot, as spectacle is unusable
for me.
I just hope I won't have to downgrade everything to 15.08, that would make me
very sad.

I'm willing to help, but I dont know much about KDE development.
would that be easy enough to do ?

I'm not sure when this patch should have been deployed. I have this bug for a
while now, on both Kubuntu and ArchLinux

I am still experiencing this issue as of kate 15.08.3-3

I have everything upgraded to the latest available, 5.17 and 5.5.1 and 15.08.3

thanks
