[kwin] [Bug 454086] External USB-C display stop working after upgrading to 5.24.90
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454086 --- Comment #42 from Robert --- Are we sure https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=456369 is a duplicate of this one? I can't find any entries in the uploaded logs that match the ones I attached to the other bug report. Also, the issue here seems to be entirely non functional usb-c monitors. In my experience, the monitor works fine (connected before boot). Both external monitor and built in fail after disconnecting it, until reboot. The log entry that caught my eye was: plasmashell[1693]: requesting unexisting screen 0 There are a lot of those, everytime I reproduce the issue. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Reconnecting it does not restore video. The only thing that helps is to force a reboot. I cannot try a direct HDMI connection, because my laptop doesn't have one. It happens consistently since upgrading the Plasma Desktop. Version 5.24 worked fine. I have tried a Gnome session to make sure nothing else is causing this issue. In Gnome it works fine. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Start a Plasma Shell session with an external monitor connected using an USB-C dock 2. Disconnect either the monitor, or the whole dock 3. Laptop screen does not turn on 4. Reconnect the external monitor / dock 5. No image on either monitor 6. Try to switch to a virtual terminal (ctrl-alt-f3) 7. Still no picture Black screen, no matter what I do Laptop screen turns on when disconnecting the monitor, external screen shows desktop when plugging it back in. Every time my system wakes up from sleep the wallpaper settings completely reset to defaults. This also happens after a system restart. [kwin] [Bug 453070] [Wayland] Night Color not working on Wayland session
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453070 Robert Britton changed: What|Removed |Added CC||britto...@protonmail.com --- Comment #3 from Robert Britton --- I can third this issue. Like Behzad -- Night Color works just fine on X11, but it's completely broken on Wayland. I'm on Arch with a fully up-to-date system as of today 5/1. I can't say whether or not this happened before the current version of Plasma I'm on was released into Arch repositories; I've only started trying to use Wayland in the past week. Night Color doesn't work whatsoever for me on Wayland. It doesn't matter what activation time you set it to or what temperature you set it to adjust to, it just doesn't work. It's as if it doesn't exist. The Night Color widget can be toggled on or off, and it displays changes as such, but nothing happens. I AM NOT A DEVELOPER but from my troubleshooting I think this might have to do with the way monitor names are detected and tracked in Wayland versus X11. The other major issue with Wayland I've been having is that on my current user account, existing since January and whatever version of Plasma was available on Arch then, any changes I make to display settings don't get saved, either resolution or refresh rate. This means I have to re-set my monitor to output at 144 Hz every single time I start a Wayland session. I've tested pretty extensively with a test user I made this weekend, and that user doesn't have the settings-not-being-saved issue, but it does also have a broken Night Color. I use a single monitor with DVI. I think these two issues may possibly be related somehow. [umbrello] [Bug 447866] [class diagram] Multiple association ends are drawn on the same edge point
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=447866 Robert Hairgrove changed: What|Removed |Added CC||c...@roberthairgrove.com --- Comment #2 from Robert Hairgrove --- Thank you, Oliver! I tried this, and now I can create two aggregations between the same two class without a problem. Over all, the drawing behavior is much more natural ... the bird view still has problems, though. Sometimes it will not update after adding objects to the diagram until the window is resized. But at least I can move one widget around without moving the other widgets in the opposite direction. After saving the file, closing the app and opening the file again, the text labels for role and multiplicity are placed in strange places. Another thing I noticed is that if I save a file, it does not add the ".xmi" extension if I do not type it explicitly. Also, default permissions are set to 600 instead of the expected 644 or 664 on Linux. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[umbrello] [Bug 446020] Bird's eye view shows nothing at first open
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=446020 --- Comment #5 from Robert Hairgrove --- (In reply to Oliver Kellogg from comment #4) > (...) - In function resizeSceneToItems, as an experimental change comment out > call to setSceneRect(itemsBoundingRect()). > It appears that the function resizeSceneToItems may be removed > altogether (subject to further tests). Thanks for looking into this, Oliver. In the meantime, I saw that QGraphicsScene will use itemsBoundingRect() anyway if no scene rect was previously set (in Qt docs). However, the strange drawing behavior of the diagrams when only a few objects/widgets are shown, and by extension of the bird's view, seems to stem from the fact that the scene has no minimum rect with sensible defaults for width and height. If I add two dummy widgets, one in the upper left corner and the other in the lower right corner, and keep moving them farther apart by scaling the view size down, then I can draw and resize other objects normally which lie inside of the bounding rect determined by the two dummy widgets. Also, the bird's eye view then works as one would expect. Dragging one object in one direction and having others move in the opposite direction is an optical illusion created by the fact that QGraphicssScene will try to keep all objects contained by it centered. Looking at the Qt example code in the "diagramscene" example, the scene's area is set in the constructor of MainWindow to (0,0,5000,5000) and it never changes. I don't know if this would work for Umbrello (when calling saveTo/loadFromXMI(), for example), but we could try starting out with a default size of 800 x 1100 pixels (which would correspond roughly to a single A4 page in portrait orientation with 96 DPI) and call resizeSceneToItems() only if the scene needs to grow its size or if the user selects "Fit" from the scale control. Perhaps this could be user-configurable? I recall reading somewhere that it is considered best practice only to include as much detail in a single UML diagram as will fit on a single A4 or US Letter size page... but cannot remember where I saw this. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

First of all, the package name should be displayed in the tab if it contains other packages, classes, or other objects. Second, the contained objects do not move with their parent package, but are shown exclusively with the older "⊕---" notation. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. In a class diagram, add a new package, e.g. "Qt" (see attached images); 2. Add a few classes and/or other packages to the diagram. They can be arranged so as to "look like" they are enclosed by the Qt package, but they are not shown in the model tree view as children until they are moved. [umbrello] [Bug 446020] Bird's eye view shows nothing at first open
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=446020 --- Comment #3 from Robert Hairgrove --- (In reply to Robert Hairgrove from comment #1) >(...) However, there is much more "bugginess" about the bird's eye view (and >the > drawing behavior in general) which needs to be looked at. For example, if I > have added two new classes to an empty class diagram and move one of them, > the other moves as well but in the opposite direction! There seems to be > code somewhere causing the scene to always be centered ... is this by > design? I would probably have to put widgets at the four corners of the > virtual page to keep things in the middle area from wandering about on the > screen when one of them is moved or resized. Takes a bit of getting used to. In the class UMLScene, there is this slot: void UMLScene::slotObjectCreated(UMLObject* o) At the end of the slot's method body, there is a call to the member function resizeSceneToItems(); which is implemented thus: /** * Sets the size of the scene to just fit on all the items */ void UMLScene::resizeSceneToItems() { // let QGraphicsScene handle scene size by itself setSceneRect(itemsBoundingRect()); } Why is this necessary? It seems to be the cause of the behavior I described in the above post in this thread. One would think that the scene should begin with a default size (user-configurable, of course) which can expand if moving an object would cross one of the boundaries, but certainly not shrink if it is larger. What happens is that on creation of the first widget in the scene, the bird's eye view will fill up its available display area with a huge rendition of the widget (much larger than 100%). Try this: Open a new class diagram, if one isn't already there; Create a new class and give it a very short name (such as "A"). The bird's eye will remain blank until the main window is resized or the splitter handle is dragged. Do that. Observe the resulting display in the bird's eye view. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=446644 --- Comment #2 from Robert Griffiths --- Sure, if it were me, I would simply change the 5 most used to the 5 last used. Not perfect but much better. But maybe a few more than 5? So it could be most useful when setting up for the 1st time. I use about 9 I think. I'm not sure when most used is at all useful? Users don't return to 'difficult to find' options as much as themes so the harder to find options will fall from the bottom of the list: eg if I go to printers a few times coz I forgot my password or 'something' it will move up the list, I will never need it again, and something useful will disappear! Ideally it would be user choice, with buttons to choose a few settings so as to display a 'MY settings panel'. [umbrello] [Bug 446020] Bird's eye view shows nothing at first open
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=446020 --- Comment #2 from Robert Hairgrove --- When running Umbrello as a debug build started from a terminal, after examining the debug output, it seems that the problem here arises from the fact that the default configuration gives us an empty class diagram which can immediately be populated with classes, packages, etc. However, the debug output "view was NULL" on opening the application with no other command-line options seems to indicate that this initial diagram was not yet added to the diagram/view stack ... even though there is a "class_diagram" object present in the tree view? This would certainly explain the fact that there cannot already be a bird's eye view of a view that (officially) does not yet exist. Is this a configurable option? Why doesn't the inital screen show an emty diagram area (dock widget) instead? I would think that with a new project, where there is no code as yet in existence (and perhaps the programming language is not yet determined), it might make more sense to have either no diagram, or else perhaps a use case diagram, presented to the user. At any rate, if there is a valid diagram, there should also be a valid bird's eye view. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[umbrello] [Bug 446020] Bird's eye view shows nothing at first open
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=446020 --- Comment #1 from Robert Hairgrove --- In the meantime, I was able to get the bird's eye view to show when a new widget is added to the diagram. I noticed that selecting something in the tree view would also trigger the view, so I looked at UMLScene::slotObjectCreated(UMLObject* o). At the end of the method body, right after the last line which calls "resizeSceneToItems()", I added these lines: UMLView* cv = activeView(); if (cv) { // this should activate the bird view: UMLApp::app()->setCurrentView(cv, false); } The last parameter to setCurrentView() has a default value of "true", which causes the tree view focus to change e.g. from "class_A" (or whatever the new widget was named) to the class diagram. Passing "false" keeps the focus on the widget in the tree view, which seems much more intuitive to me since many properties would normally need to be edited after creating and naming the widget. In UMLApp::setCurrentView(), there is a call to "createBirdView()" which deletes any existing BirdView object and creates a new one. Seems rather heavy-handed to me, but I couldn't figure out which signals to catch that would actually do anything useful. However, there is much more "bugginess" about the bird's eye view (and the drawing behavior in general) which needs to be looked at. For example, if I have added two new classes to an empty class diagram and move one of them, the other moves as well but in the opposite direction! There seems to be code somewhere causing the scene to always be centered ... is this by design? I would probably have to put widgets at the four corners of the virtual page to keep things in the middle area from wandering about on the screen when one of them is moved or resized. Takes a bit of getting used to. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[umbrello] [Bug 445119] Issues with code ignoring and possibly dereferencing nullptr
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=445119 --- Comment #3 from Robert Hairgrove --- I realize now, after looking through the source code and docs for QList and QPointer, that this would not work with signals and slots unless a completely different copying mechanism and/or redesign of UMLObjectList were implemented. Neither QList nor QPointer are descendents of QObject, so they emit no signals. UMLObjectList would most likely have to contain a QList> member instead of inheriting it directly. Read and write operations could be forwarded directly to the QList member, but adding and removing objects (pointers) should be controlled by UMLObjectList. What I can envision now, without knowing all of the details about how this class is used, is the following: 1. Class UMLObjectList should inherit from QObject, or possibly just implement signals and slots using the Q_OBJECT macro; 2. UMLObjectList should connect itself via slot to the "destroyed()" signal of each element added to its list which should only be permitted through its own "append()" function (and removal through a correlated "remove()" function); 3. Whenever a contained element is destroyed, the slot would have to find the pointer in its list and then remove it. Of course, the actual object deletion would be left to QPointer. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=445119 --- Comment #2 from Robert Hairgrove --- (In reply to Ralf Habacker from comment #1) > When I started working on Umbrello, there were many crashes because various > lists contained undefined pointers. This has been massively mitigated by > using QPointer, so that there are zero pointers left, which are checked and > ignored when accessing the lists. Why these null pointers are contained > there has already been investigated and fixed in some cases in the past, > when the cause was identifiable. One reason for this is probably the lack > of referential integrity of the objects involved. Objects are destroyed > although they are still registered in any lists. I wonder if it would help to have each object containing a UMLObjectList member to connect the "destroyed()" signal, emitted whenever a QObject is about to be destroyed, to some cleanup function which would remove the QPointer from its list? This could also be a slot added to the UMLObjectList class (which otherwise doesn't seem to be doing much of anything on its own) instead of having the object containing the list as a member be responsible for its own cleanup? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[umbrello] [Bug 445275] CodeGenerator* UMLApp::m_codegen is never destroyed
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=445275 --- Comment #1 from Robert Hairgrove --- Following up on this, it seems that there are very many instances where the parent-child relationship between QObject/QWidget and derived classes is not respected: 1. Either the derived class does not initialize its base class QObject or QWidget with a "parent" object, in which case it must be manually deleted (and is sometimes forgotten as in the case of CodeGenerator classes); 2. The derived class DOES initialize its base class with a parent, but it is deleted nonetheless manually somewhere else (as in the class "DiagramsWindow" -- the class UMLAppPrivate, derived from QObject, contains a pointer "diagramsWindow" which it creates in its member initialization list on line 80 and passes "this" as the parent. However, the destructor of UMLAppPrivate ALSO deletes the same pointer, although QObject will delete all of its children on application shutdown. This is certainly cause for a lot of strange crashes and/or memory leaks. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

A warning is emitted by "uIgnoreZeroPointer", but "obj" is dereferenced after that anyway, which causes undefined behavior according to the C++ standard. I found instances of similar behavior in about 60 other files. Which gives rise to the next question: Why are null pointers being stored in the "m_objects" collection? Instead of an error or warning, this should be handled by an assert() or something similar, causing the program to exit, preferably in code which appends the pointers to the collection. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443048 --- Comment #2 from Robert Strom --- No, I don't believe that it helps. I tried looking back at the attachment picture that I posted but it is not showing when I click on it. I am posting two more pictures. One picture of the Krusader window with the Copy Window over it. This should clearly show that the Copy Window has no Minimize button. I can move the window out of the way and still access Krusader and move around in the program while the copy or move is happening but I cannot minimize the window. The second screenshot shows the System / Notifications area for Krusader. I am not seeing what I believe you are referring to. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[krusader] [Bug 443048] New: Copy / Move progress bar always on top and unable to minimize
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443048 Bug ID: 443048 Summary: Copy / Move progress bar always on top and unable to minimize Product: krusader Version: 2.7.2 Platform: Ubuntu Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: krusader-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: robert.st...@gmail.com CC: krusader-bugs-n...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 141972 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=141972&action=edit Progress bar with no ability to minimize SUMMARY I have been using Krusader on a few different Linux distributions and have seen different behavior depending on the distro. I had been using Linux Mint Cinnamon for about a year and a half and then switched due to an issue with VMware Workstation performance. On Linux Mint Cinnamon and on my current distribution, Pop!_OS (System 76) Distributor ID: Pop Description:Pop!_OS 21.04 Release:21.04 Codename: hirsute Whenever I copy or move a file the progress bar is always on top and I am unable to minimize it. In between the Linux Mint Cinnamon and the Pop!_OS installations I ran Kubuntu. While using Kubuntu I experienced the behavior that I would expect from the copy / move progress bar. I was able to minimize the progress bar so that it was unobtrusive / out of the way. So, why is it that the progress bar can be minimized on Kubuntu, but not on other Linux distros? STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Copy or move any file 2. 3. OBSERVED RESULT Unable to minimize the progress bar EXPECTED RESULT SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: Linux/KDE Plasma: (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: KDE Frameworks Version: Qt Version: ADDITIONAL INFORMATION -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[umbrello] [Bug 442134] "const" correctness in Umbrello sources
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=442134 --- Comment #3 from Robert Hairgrove --- (In reply to Oliver Kellogg from comment #1) > Thanks for making the attachment, it is helpful. > > Minor point: > > File: codedocument.h > > virtual QString getUniqueTag(const QString& prefix = QString()); // const > > This one can't be made const due to a side effect this the function body, > > QString CodeDocument::getUniqueTag (const QString& prefix) const > { > [...] > m_lastTagIndex = number; > > The compiler reports > "assignment of member ‘CodeDocument::m_lastTagIndex’ in read-only object". Thank you, Oliver! As I replied in the umbrello-devel user group (but under another email address, sorry about that), one could declare "CodeDocument::m_lastTagIndex" mutable...this would be the easiest way to fix the compilation error. However, from looking at the implementation code, it appears that this member merely implements some kind of sequence number used to generate the new tag. Shouldn't this rather be made a static member, or have a static "generateSequence()" function? Unless there is only one singleton instance of CodeDocument objects, the danger of having duplicate values seems very real here, because each derived instance will have its own copy of the member. Also, the function is declared virtual ... what if a derived class overrides it and thus cannot update the private member of the base class? I suppose this could be avoided if each class were required to have its own unique prefix which is prepended to the number, but I'm not sure where this is enforced. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[umbrello] [Bug 442134] New: "const" correctness in Umbrello sources

"const correctness" should be preserved as much as possible. Make all getters const." Question: Has anyone actually tried to do this with the existing Umbrello sources? I did, and I had to change about 400 lines of code in just about every file in the source tree before it was again usable. The problem with const (in-)correctness is that it is somewhat like cancer: Once it has started in some code somewhere, it propagates until the entire code base is unusable if one insists on subsequent code being const-correct. But I get the impression that for some of the Umbrello code, which has obviously been around since the very beginning of the app, this was never an issue. At some point, a well-meaning maintainer decided "Oh yes ... we should require const-correctness in our coding standards". I am a great believer in const correctness. So I have another question: How can we do this? I am posting the document I created with descriptions of all the function signatures in all the files so that people can try to follow up on it. But since I am not a regular contributor to the Umbrello project, and still have issues with Git, etc., I will leave it up to those who can actually navigate "invent.kde.org" and do something useful here. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
