2023-04-22 Thread Salvatore
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=468794

Bug ID: 468794
Summary: With the new spectacle, if I use a rectangular region
and capture a large part of the screen, the
annotations go below the screen
Classification: Applications
   Product: Spectacle
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: noaha...@gmail.com
  Reporter: sannythebes...@gmail.com
CC: k...@david-redondo.de
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 158311
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=158311=edit
Example

I updated to Kde Gear 23.04 yesterday and I really like the new spectacle, but
I noticed a problem: when I take a screenshot with the rectangular region and
capture an area of the screen near the bottom of the screen, the annotations
go below the screen

Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.105.0
Qt Version: 5.15.9
Graphics Platform: X11

[plasmashell] [Bug 441274] Often the buttons to stop, to pause and to go to the previous / next track do not appear

2023-04-12 Thread Salvatore
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441274

I think I haven't had the problem for a long time. The only thing I can think
of is that MPV is not recognized by the KDE media player and the pause menu
doesn't appear either, but I guess that's MPV's fault and not KDE

Yes. I noticed another thing, the screen turns red when I activate the second
monitor in the morning, if I activate it now the problem is not there. Tomorrow
morning (Italian time) I'll try again to confirm. Now here it's 3:29 so that's
not the problem

I also have a video that I uploaded to Youtube. I couldn't upload it here

2023-01-12 Thread Salvatore
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=464189

Bug ID: 464189
Summary: Sometimes when I activate the second monitor, the
night color sets itself as temperature of the night
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kdeplasma-addons
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Night Color Control
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: sannythebes...@gmail.com
CC: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org, vlad.zahorod...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

When I activate the second monitor via the monitor widget, the monitor often
turns on blue light. To get it back to diurnal (AM) temperature, I have to go
into the night color settings and change the daytime color temperature

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. I activate the second monitor (on the left) via the Plasma panel widget
2. The color of the screen changes temperature, it switches to that of the
night even if it is not night
3. To get it back to normal, I have to go into the night color settings and
change the diurnal color temperature

EXPECTED RESULT

When I activate the second monitor, it doesn't change temperature

System info:

Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.26.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.101.0
Qt Version: 5.15.8
Kernel Version: 6.1.4-arch1-1 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 5600G with Radeon Graphics
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon Graphics

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This has been happening to me since the option was added to change the diurnal
color temperature as well

Currently my settings are:
sunset and sunrise at current location (Italy)
Diurnal Color Temperature: Cold (No filter)
Night color temperature: 3.100k

After updating to Plasma 5.26.1 notifications arrive in the center of the
screen. And not in the normal way, but they go on top of each other. If I force
the notifications on a part of the screen, the notifications don't appear.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=441289

   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED

Hi
Actually nothing special
I personally use most apps with the groups setting turned off, but there are
some apps I'd rather use grouped
Honestly it's not a priority for me, because I can always use the other option
and disable groups for individual software, but I would love it if I could do
as suggested

SUMMARY

I would like there to be the possibility to group a single software, even when
in the task manager options "do not group" is selected

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Right click on panel - configure task manager for icons only - grouping: do not
group
Right click on an icon of an open software - More actions - Allow grouping for
this program

OBSERVED RESULT

When you choose "do not group", the ability to group even one software
disappears

EXPECTED RESULT

I wish there was still the possibility to group single software, even if the
option in general is disabled

I have to be honest, it worked before, but so many packages have been updated
that I don't know which one caused the problem (Qt, frameworks, Kde
Applications or Kde plasma)

[valgrind] [Bug 392373] Valgrind could have an option to search for pointers at unaligned addresses

2018-03-26 Thread Salvatore Sanfilippo
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=392373

--- Comment #2 from Salvatore Sanfilippo <anti...@gmail.com> ---
Thanks for your comments Philippe! Glad that implementing this feature would
not require too much work. About the false negatives, indeed that's possible,
but fortunately only projects with this requirements would pay such a price,
and with 64 bit pointers the probability of a collision is pretty low (but not
as low as finding a random 8 bytes string, which is a negligible probability.
Because most pointers in normal systems will use common byte values for the
most significant part, like 0xff). I'm more worried about the overhead when the
feature is not used, I hope it is kinda non measurable or extremely low so that
the option can be considered for inclusion. Cheers.

[valgrind] [Bug 392373] New: Valgrind could have an option to search for pointers at unaligned addresses

2018-03-26 Thread Salvatore Sanfilippo
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=392373

Bug ID: 392373
Summary: Valgrind could have an option to search for pointers
at unaligned addresses
   Product: valgrind
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: memcheck
  Assignee: jsew...@acm.org
  Reporter: anti...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Memcheck determines if the block is reachable from pointers within the
root-set, checking for pointed-sized memory locations that are stored into an
*aligned* address. This may leads to false positives in case some code, for the
sake of memory efficiency or representation locality, packs pointers with other
data, effectively storing pointers at unaligned addresses. Note that using
memcpy() instead of deferencing the pointer, such a memory layout is perfectly
safe even in architectures that do not have support for accessing unaligned
memory locations: anyway when this is possible, compilers will translate memcpy
with a fixed pointer-size "count" to a load/store operation instead of actually
calling the function, so there is not lack of performances most of the times.
An example of code using this trick is an hash table where, instead of storing
at each dictionary bucket a single value, we store a blob of prefixed-len keys
followed by the respective pointer in a single allocated memory blob:
"[3]foo[5]apple". This is similar to
chaining but without paying the pointers and new bucket memory cost. In this
case, Valgrind will not be able to look for the pointers when they are stored
at unaligned offsets, reporting the leak. I imagine that scanning for aligned
addresses is faster, because the search space is reduced to 1/8 of what would
be otherwise. However this feature could just be opt-in, so that normally
Valgrind users will not incur in any penalty. I have no expertise on the
internals of Valgrind, but I can imagine that this feature could also be quite
simple to add, if there is to change just the step of the search. Thanks for
checking this issue. Regards, Salvatore.
